I went here on Saturday. The lighting could have been a little brighter. We were seated. My mother ordered the shrimp and I ordered shrimp and chicken with noodles. The service was slow. There was also only one hibachi chef so we had to wait quite awhile. However, the sushi is still amazing! I had the lollipop roll as an appetizer and as usual the fish was fresh and delicious. So, I think Tonbo is great for sushi, but I won't have hibachi again. Also important to note on this visit, the bathroom was not very clean and one toilet was completely clogged. First time visiting this spot. We had a party of 4. It wasn't overly busy at 5:30 pm on a Saturday, but we we're definitely an inconvenience for our waitress. Had to ask for everything twice...when she magically reappeared. We ordered a spicy tuna roll and standard tuna roll. Both were great. The fish was fresh and wasabi nasal passage opening strength. Our table chef Maui was great! I'm addition to being skilled at cooking on the large flattop, he was hilarious. Another group at our table had their young daughter with them. Her reactions to Maui's cooking antics were priceless. We all enjoyed our selections. A little confusion at the end when scallops one us ordered were given to the wrong person in our party was easily fixed. We came here for the first time for my husband's birthday. Upon arrival the greeter was nice. As we followed her to our table I noticed that although it looked like they wiped the tables down there were still areas that had pieces of rice etc. I was turned off right off the bat but my husband insisted we sat down. Once sitting, I set my elbow in the table to look at the menu but the table was super sticky. I had to go the bathroom to wash my arm since it was sticky. As we were waiting for our cook I looked around and saw little pieces of food on the walls. I was so done after that but my husband really had his heart set on trying the food so I stayed. The food? It actually was not bad. The cook was nice and so was the staff. If they would only give the place a thorough cleaning they would've gotten a solid 4 stars out of me. Cleanliness is important. To start, I'm a sushi fanatic and I always love trying new sushi places. Fiance suggested Tonbo as we were nearby so we stopped in. The reviews were a mixed bag and most of the negative ones were about the service not the food so we decided to give it a try. I ordered three rolls (The Paper Crane, The Tuna Trio, and the Florida) and two of the nigiri (Tuna). I enjoyed the nigiri, but the rolls tasted off. I told the waitress that something was off about them and she went and got the manager. He then told me that they'd served sushi "all day" with no complaints, but that he would "see what he could do". I ate exactly one peice of each roll so it's not like I had eaten the majority of them and then said that they were gross. He ended up taking two of them off the bill, but honestly lost my business after that poor handling. My fiance got the hibachi chicken and filet and he enjoyed his meal. He also got the tempura chicken roll and really liked that. He's willing to return, but I won't be joining him unless it's just for drinks because the tigerlilly martini was fabulous. read more

The location was completely empty, we were the only table in the area we were in and had to get up to remind them to bring sauces for appetizers , for the check, then to pay the check, it was pretty bad. Luckily we were visiting from out of town so we had a lot to talk about but had it been a regular night , i personally wouldn't go back. This is your standard teppanyaki place. They have standard dining on one side and teppanyaki on the other. Service was friendly. Chef did nothing flashy but made you feel like you were a regular. Sushi: Spicy tuna roll - it was ok. Was definitely not bad but there was nothing special about it. Teppanyaki: delicious. The rice and vegetables were delicious. Above average for this kind of place. Passed by it countless times, but never went in. Finally went there with the wife and were pleasantly surprised in how big it was inside! It's actually a hibachi also! Never would have guessed it since it's in a strip mall. We got their late, so the hibachi wasn't an option for us. There were 8 of us in a party for a Sunday lunch, and we were seated pretty quickly. We were the first family in the Hibachi area, and pretty quickly after that there were several other parties. As it became busier, there was less and less attention to our table. The Hibachi chef was absolutely wonderful. He made us laugh a whole lot, was very happy and friendly, did an exceptional job! I loved how he was basically putting on a show for us, and it was a blast. Now, onto the food...I opted for the shrimp lunch with noodles, and I had 3 kids with me ages 13 and under who opted for steak with rice. Well, the food was gross. There was no flavor, it was bland, and just not good. The noodles tasted like wet cardboard, the veggies all tasted the same instead of their own flavors, the shrimp was over cooked and no flavor. I was disappointed. The salad before the food was hard for me to eat, because the ginger dressing was thick and gritty and not delicious. The Yum-Yum sauce was as though a yogurt/pudding consistency and when I put my shrimp into it, it just put a dent into the pudding-like yum-yum sauce and nothing on the shrimp. Disturbing. The only thing I would come back for, would be the chef. Definitely nothing else. I would've put a 1 star if it wasn't for him. I never even received a refill on any of our drinks. read more

The bathroom is so dirty it must have at least a half inch of dirt in the top rails of the stalls. The floors are so dirty the are going to have to scrape them to get them clean. I've had the hibachi here several times, at the grill and table, it's amazing either way. The chefs are always really talented and funny, most of them have worked there for a long time and are known by the regulars. We have eaten here no less than 100 times. The food is great, the service isn't great but it's not the end of the world for hibachi since they serve you. BUT the hostess was horrendous. I mean so bad we are considering never returning she was so bad. We have NEVER had to make a reservation, last time (2 days ago) the same nasty hostess said it was highly recommended, today apparently it was a requirement. I asked if that was new and she was very snarky when she said, "We always require a reservation for Hibachi". She never looked up from her paper she was writing in. She didn't greet us. In fact it appeared that our very presence and desire to spend money at this establishment was a total waste of her time. Management needs to retrain or remove her from being in the front of the house. She will ruin this business with her horrible attitude and behavior. I have been going to Tonbo since they opened. I have been a cery loyal customer for many years. i was extremely disappointed with my visit last night. There were mats and flys swarming around our tables .myself and others were swatting them away. I watched the table next to me get their food and box it up. That same table that left I watched the busser clear off the plates that were on their table ,put everything on the chair, change the paper tablecloth and put the plates back on the table. Yuck.. We ordered sushi apps and out meals came well before the sushi. I use the app belly for rewards and when I went to scan the code on the iPad the kid said "yea it's broken,it's been charging for days but doesn't work" ok so no rewards.
