Been wanting to try this little cupcake shop for a while now. It was very good. The quality is very unlike those chain cupcake places. The cakes are very moist and the icings are not greasy but creamy and delicious. We got 12 of them because they aren't huge, and we wanted to share them. They were all delicious. The red velvet and the lemon were particularly good. Everyone tries to make a red velvet, but they're always dry and they're always loaded with food coloring, and they rarely have that distinctive cocoa flavor that defines them. This one had it all, including that tart vanilla sour cream icing. I highly recommend that red velvet if you are a fan. The line was also bright and very flavorful. The other cupcakes did not disappoint in that they were tasty. But some of them oversold. For instance, the dolce de Leche I don't really know what I was expecting, but what I got was a very tasty vanilla cake with a creamy vanilla frosting, and a swirl of caramel on the icing. I guess I was expecting more caramel inside or something that made it burst with a caramel flavor. The chocolate cupcake, and the Oreo cookie cupcake we're both very good. But I will tell you the outright winner of the day, was the brownie! We bought a brookie and a brownie, and both were absolutely, positively, phenomenal. This was on a list from nj.com about bakeries to try. So we tried it. And we enjoyed everything we had. We tried a dozen various cupcakes, a brookie (chocolate chip cookie brownie combo) and a brownie. The cupcakes were all very fresh and tasty. The frosting on every single one of them was delicious. And the cupcake cakes were all moist and delicious. The brownies were a delight. They were so chewy and dense with chocolate. Those were my favorite. Parking is tough here but we got lucky with the no parking zone in front being clear. Given the store is small with big windows that you can the street it was easy to park and run in and out. It's also an easy place to drive around the block while your partner gets out to buy what you want. Worse comes to worse you park and walk but not if your a girl alone. I wouldn't let my gf walk these streets alone. There are locals hanging around and it's sketchy just being honest. So if you're not a burly guy type, come with a buddy and you will easily be able to work it out. It's most definitely worth a trip. read more

Found this place on a whim! So glad I did. Super friendly staff. Super moist and delicious cupcakes can't go wrong with any. In fact get the sampler to try them all. Most recently tried the banana pudding. Whooaaa I don't even like banana pudding and it was so goood. Homemade for sure! Not overpowering with banana flavor just right. I've literally been taking all of my family members here one by one when they come into town lol. No more traveling to NY to other bakeries for me. I live a little too close and find myself buying dessert too often here. The only two comments I will make is that the cake isn't always consistently moist. I stopped buying cake slices because of this. Also, the chocolate icing has been inconsistent. On my first visit it was nice and fudge like and on my most recent visit I got the sampler cupcakes and the icing taste weird. It was oily like. Like something was missing and left a bad aftertaste. However, that will not stop me from returning because everything else is usually delish. Don't forget the sign up for the Tonnie's Loyalty app when you get in store! I recently moved to Newark and discovered my new cupcake shop, Tonnie's Minis! I have never been inside, so I can't comment on customer service and decor. BUT I have gotten cupcake delivery twice and can say with confidence that their cakes are super moist!! I've had better cream in the past, but their cake is really what makes them special. Normally when I order cupcakes at the end of the day, they aren't as fresh or moist but these hold up for awhile even if I finish them a few days later. I'm not a cake connoisseur or anything, but I feel like their vanilla cake has some sort of pineapple base. It's subtle, but sometimes I taste it. If you are strongly averse to pineapples, their vanilla cake might not be the best bet. But maybe there is no pineapple and being indoors too long is just making me crazy? My favorite is definitely their chocolate cake. It is absolute perfection! I am salivating as I write this, so I should probably end this review now. I have a major sweet tooth and couldn't wait to give this spot a try. When I arrived I parked nearby on the street. I walked in and was greeted and served by a nice young man. The bakery was super cute. I asked a few questions before I decided to go with the lemon cupcake and chocolate cake slice. When I went to pay the young man informed me if I enroll with my phone number I can get a free cupcake and build points. I decided to get the mini chocolate cupcakes. My total was a little over $10. When I got home I tasted the lemon cupcake's icing and it wasn't bad at all. I dug into one of the mini cupcakes and it was soft and flavorful. I ordered mini cupcakes for local delivery to a friend and I paid $20 flat rate for shipping to Edgewater. The online ordering process was the easiest part, but unfortunately it turned out to be super misleading. My order was still "processing" after a week and I hadn't received any status/order updates, so I emailed them to find out what was going on. I asked for an update and I received an email back from Ken C. saying "We do not ship mini cupcakes, there pick up or local delivery only. Thanks". But I was only shipping the cupcakes 0.5 miles away from their Edgewater location?! Shortly after his email came in, my order status was changed to "delivered" with zero context. Now I'm running in circles for a refund on an order that was never fulfilled for my friend's birthday. I'd recommend shopping elsewhere to avoid the headache. read more

As a long time customer of this Bakery I have followed them from ever single location that they have open and closed. Starting from Harlem, Dyckman, Newark, Edgewater NJ (which is now closed) their Kios in Garden State Plaza Mall (which is now closed). I have order numerous times throughout the years from Custom cakes, regular cakes and cupcakes. Never have I experienced such poor customer service and work for them until this past weekend. I placed an order from them for my cousin's 50th bday party. I received a call from the chief two days prior regarding pick up. The chief indicated the cake needs to be picked up the day of the event b/c the image is an editable image and it wouldn't last pass the day of. I rearranged pick up time on end. This is the end result of the cake. The editable image wasn't applied correctly nor smoothed out around the cake. There is a random strip down the middle of the cake. The design should have been one smooth solid image all the way around the cake. It looks like they didn't measure the image properly so they had to cut another strip to cover the cake. The cake wasn't properly constructed as it started leaning to the side. Once we cut the cake it completely fell apart. Paying $200 plus for a cake that was completely inedible is ridiculous. I reached out to Tonnies yesterday by phone and email. I received your standard I'm sorry that happened to you apology and later a follow up email stated they can't predict how a cake is going to hold up in the summer months and a $100 in store credit. Absolutely unacceptable. I have brought cakes from them in a heat wave every summer and never experienced this poor quality of a cake. I have yet to receive a reply to my last email nor the phone call I requested from they to futher discuss this. They have lost a long time customer who will also spread the word to all of the customers I sent them to no longer patronize this Bakery going forward. read more

My girlfriend wanted to get me cupcakes for my birthday from here so she ordered online days in advance for pick-up. It was scheduled for today, Saturday at 4pm. She received an update that the order was in progress at 11am. She changed the pick up time to 2:30pm but we still go here around 4pm anyway. And this place is closed! Your Instagram and this yelp page show your hours on Saturday are 11am-7pm. How do we place a confirmed order online that is in progress for pick up at 4pm and you aren't even open? Heavenly tastes and quaint setting. They put a little bit of love into each pastry. Every dessert has been absolutely delicious. I can't even count the number of return visits I've made to this location. The perfect amount of sweet, moist and yummy. I happen to love chocolate, so chocolate frosting on chocolate cupcake feeds that addiction well. Their cake we purchased for a birthday was stunning to look at, and even better to eat. I came to the gateway center for Smitty and Mo's but saw these cupcakes and just had to indulge. They have these teeny tiny sample at the counter that are enough so that you can tell it's good, but small so you end up wanting more. Anywho, I bought a red velvet and a vanilla and chocolate cupcake with an Oreo on top. The red velvet was gone before I even got my food from Smitty and Mo's back to the counter I go to buy more, since I didn't get one for the hubster ::wink::. I bought another red velvet and a sweet potato cupcake. The red velvet deserves its own paragraph. So here goes. Multiple foodgasms. Multiple foodgasms in my mouth and stomach. This is by far the best red velvet ANYTHING I have ever had and the hubster agrees. The other cupcakes paled in comparison to the red velvet which was disappointing. I got the brownie, banana pudding, the mixed mini cupcakes, chocolate chip cookies, a slice of carrots cake and 1 lemon cupcake. When I tell you EVERYTHING was DELICIOUS! Can I start off by saying I almost never leave reviews? . I drove to Newark to buy seafood from my partners favorite seafood spot for his birthday. I decided to get cupcakes for him and googled a good bakery in the area. I came across tonnies minis saw it had good reviews and decided to give them a try. After parking my car I had such a hard time actually finding where the store was though I called and the man on the phone came outside to find me to direct me to where they were located. I was 100% expecting him to be annoyed with me because I called twice and was so confused as to where they were located and was in a rush because I had to pick up my daughter from school and didn't want to be late. To my surprise he was beyond sweet and understanding. I came inside and was overwhelmed with all the sweets they had and didn't know what exactly to choose. The man behind the counter was beyond sweet as well and helped me choose what he thought was best for my boyfriend and our daughters. He even gave me candles for my boyfriend and gave me 2 extra for my daughters because I knew they would want to blow out the candles even though it's not their birthday the cupcakes were beyond delicious. The most delicious cupcakes I've had in my life. Was soft and moist and the icing wasn't too sweet it was just perfect. I loved all their flavors. I will be back!!
