Great calamari, good service but sometimes slower. Great lightning and atmosphere with plenty of space

Food was good, but pricy. Location is convenient with plenty of parking. Staff was nice, but often (three times) forgot items that were asked for. I have ordered their take home family style meals before which are a great deal- but I've noticed the quality has seemed to change and the vodka sauce on the pasta seems VERY different than it used to be (in a disappointing way, unfortunately). The salmon dish in the photo was in special the most recent time I had been there and it was delicious. Tables are right and close together, but still comfortable. Joey's is our favorite restaurant, we get takeout at least 2x a month. Whether dining in or takeout we've never had a bad meal, always delish. Grace is usually the young girl who takes our order an brings out the food. She always checks to make sure it's perfect. I would recommend joeys to anyone who wants great italian food. read more

Six of us arrived at Joey's for an early dinner on a Wednesday evening. We were seated at a candlelit table and our server, Layla, promptly appeared to ask for drink orders. Throughout the meal she was personable and professional. Appreciated was the fact that we were able to talk among ourselves because it wasn't too noisy. Standout items on our table included the warm fresh bread, the artichokes French, the Scampi with shrimp and scallops and the Parmesan chicken YUM ! My only suggestion would be to have more salad dressing and soup choices. In addition to the chef, I'd like to compliment the bar tender who made me one of the best Virgin Marys I've ever had. read more

It has been 7 years since my last review. I finally had a chance to get back to Rochester after a handful of years away. I have a phone phobia. At 54 years old, you'd think I'd be over that by now...but online reservations are so much easier than having to deal with a busy (sometimes rude) host/hostess over the phone. Thanks Joey's for letting us with telephobia (I just learned that word today!) make online reservations. To the others, get with the times...or don't, let Joey's take your business. We arrived on time for our reservation and were seated promptly. Chris was our waiter and he was absolutely amazing throughout the evening for my daughter and I. I hadn't had Chicken French since my daughter graduated college and left Rochester. Although Chris tried, he wasn't able to talk me out of ordering something else w/ an amazing "specials" list. My daughter ordered Chicken Joey's. Once again, the food was absolutely incredible. The Chicken French was cooked perfectly. My daughter raved about her Chicken Joey's. The table behind us saw her order and I believe regretted their order, as I overheard them asking what she had received. Prior to receiving my entrée, I had a bowl of Pasta Fagioli. Yes, superb as well. My only gripe, and it's a minor one, is that they don't have beer on tap. Crazy because of the local beer scene is quite good. Give some local breweries some love and get their beer in your restaurant...on tap. There are some amazing Italian restaurants in Rochester. Joey's has to be near the top of the list. The ambiance. The food. The wonderful staff. Everything seems to be well run and it shows. I wish I didn't live across country so I could enjoy this more often. Oh man, if I could give Joey's 6 stars, I would. We're from San Diego but were staying at an Air Bnb in Penfield to do some genealogy there and in Webster. Our host told us about this place and how to get there. It's the type of place that doesn't have a huge sign outside but everyone seems to know about. It has plenty of free parking in the rear and a front and backdoor. The hostess sat us efficiently and our server/bartender, Josh, was awesome. We had the Gorgonzola pasta and pasta with clams. It came with the most delicious cups of soup (I had lentil, he had pasta fagole). I also ordered a small garden salad which we shared. Since it was our anniversary, we also ordered the fried calamari appetizer and that was the best choice ever. I've NEVER had calamari that good before. The breading, and the fry job on it was perfect and the portion was huge. I sure do wish we lived closer because I'd be there ALL THE TIME just for that calamari. Run, don't walk to Joey's ...we highly recommend it! read more

5 of us for dinner. Lentil soup was great. We had to send back 2 entrees because they weren't hot enough - one was the penne vodka with chicken. Our server was great and very apologetic. The penne vodka was very pale in color and tasted so sweet. Two other diners tasted it and agreed. I ate about one eighth of it and was done. I did mention something to the staff about it being really sweet. Later our server told us that they were going to take half off the price of the penne vodka and this was the decision of the manager Jade who determined that because I had eaten some of it (approx one eighth) they were only going to take 50% off! Come on Jade - based on my calculations, I was entitled to at least 87.5% off! read more

A wonderful place for a date night with my lovely wife! There is a nice little bar area just past the entrance. Multiple dining areas on two floors allow for a more intimate dining experience. Ian was our server and he was fantastic. Knowledgeable about the menu, the specials and the wine list and on top of everything. He made a special evening run smoothly. We had a reservation on Friday evening and were seated promptly at 6:30 at our pick of high top table in bar area. Our server (Erica) was very helpful, and patient, realizing we just wanted to take our time, enjoy the dining experience, and did not rush us. She took care of some concerns... clams returned bc of large size, and warm the haddock French.. with understanding and grace. The pasta dish was excellent! Despite reservations, we had to wait quite a while (20 mins.) to get a seat for 3. For that, I give 4 stars. The place was packed - popular with seating at the bar and near it (tall tables) as well as a dining area (lower tables). I did see stairs with people coming down, but I didn't go up to check. The soup, bread, ravioli, and scallop dish were all tasty and fresh. The pricing was high as expected in NY. However, I have no complaints on the food. Our wait staff was friendly. I read about the up charges, and I have to say that I did not look at the receipt closely to catch up-charges. read more

If I could give them a 0 I would. Our server was great, however the food was very poor. The ceaser salad had no dressing and the vodka sauce tasted like a cheese sauce. We did complain because it was truly so bad and we did not touch our vodka pasta. Not only did the manager not even come by after we requested for it but the manager only offered to comp one of the pasta dishes or an appetizer even though myself and my date did not touch ours. I am super disappointed to say the least, all of our party who ordered the vodka sauce was dissatisfied. You would think that 3 people complaining about the dish would show that something is wrong with it. Just a shame to pay for something that wasn't worth it. It was just ok. Definitely not worth the price, in my opinion. The place was absolutely packed and was so loud that we had to shout just to hear one another. The calamari was delicious, but we didn't receive any bread for the table. I ordered Vodka Penne, but it tasted absolutely nothing like any vodka sauce I've ever had. When my plate was served, I thought they had mixed up and given me macaroni and cheese because the sauce was a yellowish orange color. It didn't even taste like there were any tomatoes in the sauce, and it was so smooth that it seemed like it came out of a jar. However, other people at our table had delicious meals, so if you go, definitely don't order the vodka sauce! read more

The food and service has really declined. I know they are under new ownership and it shows. I've ordered probably 10 times in the past year in a half and EVERY single time they mess up the order. Whenever I call to explain items are missing they say that they will refund but, they never do. On our most recent visit we were smart enough to check the takeout bag before leaving. We ordered 3 large lobster bisque, they gave us one small. When we brought it up to the server she sighed and got annoyed. She gave us another small one, didn't even give us all the soups we ordered. She practically threw it at us without saying anything and just walked away. Guess we lost money to this restaurant yet again. Oh, and that lobster bisque? Had NO lobster in it, I did get a mouthful of congealed flour though. Sadly, I think we will have to stop coming here after many years. We have been going to Joeys Pasta House for years. Unfortunately, I won't be going back. The waitress (Kyle) asked myself and the 3 guests I was with if we wanted salad or soup with our entree. The soup and salad option has always been included in the price of the dinner. When I got the bill I noticed our meals were each $3 more. I asked her why the difference in price and I was told they now charge $3 for the up charge of the soup and/or side salad. I told her she should have mentioned it as when she stated "soup or salad" most would assume it is part of the meal. It always has been. Her demeanor changed when I told her I wasn't pleased with the hidden charge. She showed me it referenced the $ above the entrees. She told me as a "one time courtesy" she would remove the charges. If she had said it pleasantly, all would be fine. Instead she was rude and acted like she was going me a huge favor. There were probably 3 other tables in the restaurant. Clearly business isn't booming. In a World where there a lot of great restaurants, within several miles, Joeys could learn a few lessons on customer service. read more

Also it's sometimes the small things that make a difference and the bread oil here is THE BEST I've tasted anywhere. Absolute delicious. We came here with a group of about 20 and it did take quite some time to receive our food. They were prompt with our drinks, drink refills and appetizers. I had the Terra Mare - chicken, shrimp and scallops in a Madeira sauce. It was kinda of a twist on chicken Marsala and was spectacular. For dessert the cannoli cake was something else - light and almond flavored. I totally recommend! read more

Reservations do NOT apply here. I'm such a stickler for reservations. If you accept them, you better know how to keep to them. If you don't know how to handle that, don't allow them. Reservations are the first impression you make on everyone. Don't mess that up. We had 8:30pm reservations this past Saturday evening. That's late for reservations but we took what we could get. We arrived at 8:25pm and waited. And waited. At 9:00pm, we asked the hostess how things were looking and she said "a few more minutes." So we waited. And waited. Around 9:30pm, a server came by to let us know we'd be seated shortly. We were seated at 9:45pm for 8:30pm reservations. We were planning to head to midnight bowling after dinner where they open the lanes at 10:00pm. We considered leaving Joey's and just heading to bowl while opting for cheap bar food. We would have been served at a faster rate. Instead, we stuck around Joey's and were seated at 9:45pm for dinner on a Saturday night. I should have taken a siesta that day. The food was ok. I'm so disappointed because I've heard nothing but great reviews for years. Years! Sadly, on my first trip here, we were seated over an hour after our reservations were made for, our soup was cold and the salad was bare. Thankfully, our entrees were served hot with wonderful flavor. My suggestion - make a reservation for early in the evening, before they get busy and lose control. I'm betting if we were there earlier, the service would have been better, we wouldn't have been so frustrated when we sat down that we would nitpick at everything and all food would have been fresh and fantastic because we weren't one of the last ones there while the kitchen was closing. read more

Joanne the manager was a horrible manager. Not only was she rude to us when we called to place a Togo order, she said " did I check online first to place the order!" Then, the order was not correct when we opened it at home. She did not explained to us correctly what our options were for gluten free pasta. When we called back to inform them it was not what we order she continued to huff and buff at us and laugh through the conversation extremely unprofessional. Not the way a manager should deal with such a simple mistake that she could have fixed in an appropriate manner! when I asked to speak to her boss she again laughed and said Hi , referring to herself as the owner. Bring your appetite and expect plenty of leftovers to take home. The place was packed but then again, it is a Saturday. I highly advise to get reservations in advance. Grab a drink at the bar while you wait. To start, had the calamari scampi. It had a burst of flavor with hints of citrus, roasted red peppers, and banana peppers. Though the sauce took the crispiness of the calamari away (our server warned us as some do prefer crispy calamari), the flavor makes up for it. Highly recommended! The calamari itself had a slight bite but still tender. I highly suggest adding a sprinkle of the red pepper flakes. The mac n cheese was creamy with a slight crunch from the breadcrumbs. I did add black pepper, but that is a personal preference. This is no judgement on the dish itself. My chicken Parm was ginormous. Two large chicken cutlets flattened and breaded, but still moist in the center. It had a crispy crust topped with melted cheese and marinara. The marinara itself was unfortunately watery yet acidic and just kind of meh. The speghetti underneath was cooked past Al Dente; not a deal breaker. The chocolate caramel cake was interesting. The frosting and caramel layer was delicious yet the cake itself tasted bland. The canoli cake is better. Not overly sweet with a creamy texture with the taste of almond and what I suspect is marscapone versus cottage cheese. IMHO, I prefer marscapone as well for a canoli. The service was attentive and the food came out at reasonable times. If I return, I'll likely just stick to drinks and appetizers. read more

Despite the overall 3.5 stars for this place, this restaurant is one of the best I've even to in a while and is better represented by 5 stars in my opinion. I had the chicken and veal capicola and it was so good I ignored the fact It had a vodka sauce considering i am lactose intolerant. The appetizers of calamari scampi was the perfect amount of crisp and meat. Overall the meat was great and will def have to be back when in town again. read more

Joey's Pasta has been a long time go to place for dinner. Unfortunately, that has now changed. As always the service was excellent and that's about all I've got good to say. My wife ordered a shrimp and scallops dish. For $29 it consisted of 3 shrimp & 3 scallops over escarole. You got to be kidding. Can you spare it? I had the filet mignon for $39 that was so so. I am never concerned about prices when we dine out. But, last night was disappointing. read more

Wonderful family dinner last night! Fried calamari and Italian mac and cheese were delicious starters. I had the gnocchi in vodka sauce. We split pieces of the chocolate and carrot cakes for dessert - amazing, especially the carrot. We waited a bit long between courses, but otherwise great experience as always! read more
