At one point I asked for a drink refill, and he told me it was already on the table. I didn't even notice him bringing it because he was that quick. The food was delicious and the portions were so big I couldn't even finish it. Definitely a spot I'd come back to again.

Since the Denver, NC location is closer, I decided to try it instead, and it was a big disappointment. The atmosphere was completely different: very quiet, nearly empty, low energy, and the staff seemed disengaged. I stood at the "please wait to be seated" sign for a few minutes without being acknowledged, and when a waiter finally came over, he acted annoyed--as if I was doing something wrong by waiting where the sign told me to. The food came out quickly, but the quality wasn't even close to what I'm used to. I ordered quesabirria tacos, which I had recently at the other location and couldn't stop thinking about. This version was missing the dipping consommé entirely and came with a bland onion-and-cilantro water instead. The tacos looked similar but clearly weren't prepared the same way, and the flavor just wasn't there. To top it off, the waiter claimed this was the "better location," which made the experience even more frustrating. Between the weak atmosphere, awkward service, and disappointing food, this location doesn't live up to the others. I won't be back to this one.

Ever since I moved nearby, Juan Loco has always been in a weird category for me. Their food is…read moregood, I love Mexican and Tex-Mex, but their menu doesn't really pull me in. I'm really not a fan of the 5 mini tacos they offer, not because they taste bad, but more because I don't want to deal with 5 little tacos And they only sell their larger tacos in packs of 3, which is fine, but I'd actually order from here all the time if I could just order single tacos and build a custom order the way I want it (similar to Osito's or Tacos 4 Life). And their cheese dip isn't "pure" cheese dip, it has something else mixed in like a chipotle ranch or something, I really don't know, but it's not really what I'm looking for. To me the biggest issue I have is just not being able to customize my order the way I want it because the way they've designed their menu makes me not want to order anything because I don't want to commit to it. I like the a la carte style. So anyway I decided today would be my once-a-year order from Juan Loco just to see if I'm making a mistake by not ordering here more often since it's literally right down the street from me. The food was good. The menu was still a point of frustration. So it's getting 3 stars from me mainly because I'm just not compelled to order from here. I want to. I keep trying. The food is good. But it never draws me back.

This is a counter service restaurant, which is very casual and quick, so you order and grab a table, then they bring the order over. They a have a pretty large menu, so you will have a lot of good choices. We had 3 tacos each. They are street taco sized, so keep that in mind when ordering. The portion was enough for me though. Love the shrimp tacos the most, especially the avocado crema on top. Yum

All of doors were open to outside and it was cold with a draft, I'm not sure why they left the doors open tonight but I had asked her to sit far away from the doors and then she ended opening up another one of the doors so they were all open. She didn't smile once and looked visibly annoyed from the moment I walked in. The food was also not great tonight. The restaurant was pretty dead and the tacos came out cold. The pork belly needed to be heated up more. The tuna taco was terrible tonight with a fishy taste (much different than my last experience) and had a shiny film on it. I took one bite and thought it tasted bad so didn't eat the rest, I'm surprised my server didn't ask me what was wrong with it.

The restaurant itself was very pleasant. It was warm enough that all the windows were open, giving the place a nice breezy, open feel. It's a comfortable environment to sit and enjoy a meal with family. For food, I ordered the chicken tinga, pork, and Baja fish tacos. They were good overall, but for me the flavor profiles were surprisingly similar. I expected a little more distinction between them. The chips and salsa with guacamole were very good, and I really like their idea of bringing out a whole crispy tortilla that you break apart yourself like chips. Service started off strong. Our server, Libby, was very friendly and did a great job breaking the ice when she first came to the table. Unfortunately, things slipped a little after that. We asked for more chips that never came, and I ordered a half-and-half tea (sweet and unsweet). The tea eventually arrived, but it tasted completely unsweetened. Other people at the table had better luck with their meals. The tuna tacos were a big hit, the pork tacos were well loved, and the Brussels sprouts taco was surprisingly good according to the family member who ordered it. Overall, the atmosphere and some of the menu items are strong, but the service gaps and the lack of distinct flavor between some tacos kept the experience from being better. Still a nice place to sit and eat, but there's room for improvement.

That's when I realized there was a small Mexican food spot tucked in there. I had no idea what to expect, but decided to pop in--and I'm so glad I did. The dining space is small, so I'd recommend ordering to go, but the menu has a great variety and everything tasted fresh and authentic. Definitely a place I'll be going back to.
