We came here after a friend recommended us, tried the Beef Pad Kee Mow (light spicy was requested- still pretty spicy, the basil kinda left me uncertain but the overall spite blend was really interesting) and Tiger Cry Beef (we might come back just for this dish!!), and Combination Fried Rice (a little wet compared to what we usually have in another thai places but still flavorful). My brother also tried the chicken egg rolls, nothing crazy tbh, they were good. The Thai tea was so unexpectedly refreshing, it was like a light papaya flavor with evaporated milk (I don't think those were the ingredients lol but it was subtle) Service was very chill and welcoming, the server helped us with some recommendations and was very sweet. I like Tony Thai because it's affordable and the food is pretty decent. We went the day before Father's Day to celebrate and it was pretty packed but the interior has a lot of seating. We ordered veggie dumplings, veggie egg rolls, crispy pork with veggies, tofu pad thai, chicken pad see ew, crispy noodles with shrimp, tiger cry beef, and garlic green beans. The tiger cry beef was good but I wish it was a little bit softer or not as cooked. The garlic green beans were so good and had a nice crunch to them. You can never go wrong with their pad thai and pad see ew. Our server was really kind and kept checking on us, refilling our waters, and even packed up our leftovers. I've been coming here since I was a young and free single lad, and now I still come here, but as a husband and father of 3. All this to say the food still slaps, no cap. Our old reliables are the Beef Noodle Soup, Tiger Cry, along with Pad Pak Bong. We also recommend the Tony Wings and Tom Yum Noodle Soup. While the prices have crept up over the years, it is still very reasonable. Portions are pretty generous. I will say that it doesn't feel like it's the cleanest place and the decor has not changed (which is not necessarily a bad thing), but the interior is getting older. Wanted to check out another Thai place and this one showed up. Got a few dishes to try out and everything was pretty solid. Pad see ew and the tom yum kung was our favorite. It was super flavorful and the spice level was perfect. I think the only let down was the fish. It was over cooked in my opinion so the texture was very soggy-like. Been coming here for years, but it's been going downhill. My most recent visit was terrible. The pad see ew noodles had an unusual gummy pasty texture. There was no distinct "noodle", they just mushed together in an unpleasant white mass. They clearly overcooked the noodles. The green curry chicken had a grainy texture instead of the usual smooth. That typically occurs if you add the cream in too fast at too high a heat, causing it to curdle. Maybe they changed their chef, because whoever is in there now doesn't know how to do it correctly. read more

I read multiple reviews of various local Thai restaurants and every time someone had a negative opinion of a restaurant one of the most common refrains was "Tony Thai is so much better" or some other such nonsense. When we walked in, it was kind of clammy inside like the AC was having issues. Not a deal-breaker, but not really comfortable for dining. We soldier forth though, because tasty food is worth it. Once again, I've had some excellent food at some less-than-elegant establishments, so I'm not going to let this second red flag deter me. After all, the peeps of Yelp would never lead me astray, right? Right? We ordered several dishes: spring rolls, pad see eew, tiger cry beef, red curry, etc. Nothing - and I mean nothing - came out hot. Every dish served was like it had been sitting under a heat lamp at a buffet station. We ended up telling them to just wrap it up to go to see if we could take it home and salvage it there. Ended up tossing it because, even after heating it up, it lacked flavor. I should also mention that the service was slow. Not slow like the server is in the weeds and can't catch up, but slow like the server just really didn't care. I mean, it was so slow I could feel my hair growing. It wasn't exactly busy in there (third red flag), so that doesn't explain it. We just felt like we had been forgotten multiple times. In hindsight, the food may have been hot when it came out of the kitchen. We'll never know though. If y'all call that good, we need to have words. read more

Great place in Chinatown that serves up many Thai dishes. Tony Thai has been a Chinatown staple for some time now. I've been here a few times with great results. The interior is nice and bright during the day. The lunch specials are gone, but prices and portions are really good, and one can easily split a dish. I really enjoyed the pad thai and pad prick king fish on my last visit. The pad thai had great flavor and pieces of fried tofu, the fish had a nice crisp texture. We asked for both dishes to be medium, but no spice was detected, so we had to alter them ourselves. They do offer take away goodies as well as ingredients to make your own dishes, a bit out of place, but whatever. This is definitely not a place to be missed. read more

I went here for the second time ever this past Monday night. I ordered the Basil Chicken Fried Rice with easy oil and medium spice level. It was very fresh, herby, spicy, really delicious, moist without being too greasy as I prefer rice a bit on the dry side rather than soupy in feel. The basil and bell pepper vibes were spot-on and the chicken pieces were very tender. The rice itself had just the right amount of saltiness n solid savoriness. I've had a couple other good ones in other Thai places, but they just don't make it really good the way Thai Gourmet / Thai Garden did in their prime. Some great places don't even sell the basil version either. Each place I just mentioned tastes a little different since they're different places of course, but they nail that same idea roughly, which is superb news. The service was welcoming and this place is far from me, but I will make a trip here from time to time. The service is always fast, and the servers have always been attentive. I always have to order the chicken yellow curry, pork pad see ew, and garlic salmon, but I also love their other dishes as well, such as the garlic pork, pad kee mao, tiger cry, fried rice, and more. I immediately informed the manager and asked if they could remake the dish and offer at least $20 off my next visit, as I genuinely enjoy the food here. A great Thai restraint to visit if you want to avoid all of the traffic east of beltway 8 as there's plenty of parking in the shopping center. We've tried a few dishes and they're all pretty good but my favorite is the pad Thai. The waitstaff are friendly and it's always been clean every time we've visited. The first time my friend ever invited me to Tony Thai, she described the catfish chili sauce as a crispy fried fish with the most delicious chili sauce on top. If we ever go here with a group of 4 people or more, we'll end up getting two plates of the catfish with chili sauce because it's just that good. I always ask them to put extra sauce on top of the fish too. If you're having a to go order, be sure to ask for the sauce on the side so the fish doesn't get soggy on the way home. The catfish chili sauce has some veggies mixed in with it too like bell peppers and eggplant. The eggplant with the chili sauce is so delicious and compliments the fish so well. This dish also comes with a side of rice to soak up the sauce. We also always get the pad see eww that you can get with either beef or chicken. Each noodle is coated beautifully in oil and is packed with so much umami and the oilly noodles taste so good with the firm veggies in the dish. Sometimes we'll get the basil fried rice too for people who are rice people and not noodle people. Each grain of rice is also beautifully coated in oil and packed with lots of flavor. This spot is more of a 3.5 star rating for me. Customer service was pretty good. But, their dishes were on the sweeter side, which I didn't care for. Here's a breakdown of the dishes we ordered: Thai fish cakes (4/5): I think this was on par with Thai Bistro. Good texture, ample lemongrass flavor, and tangy sauce. The sauce was still kind of on the sweet side. Grilled squid (4/5): I can actually get past the sweetness of the sauce coating the squid here because it had a wonderful smokey flavor and just cooked to the right texture. The chili sauce on the side will help with cutting the sweetness and add a good amount of heat. It's spicy. Pad Kee Mao (3.5/5): I asked for my dish to have chicken and tofu; and for it to be spicy. Well, it wasn't spicy at all. It had just enough flavor from the wok and the basil. It was kinda sweet. The chicken was ok, but the tofu was tough, since they used the fried tofu that you would use for hot pot. I wonder if they used a slightly less chewy tofu, the dish would be more cohesive. Otherwise, they had large portions, enough for lunch the next day. Yay. We came earlier on a weeknight for dinner and there were few people inside and spaced far enough apart. Later into the dinner, more people came in for dinner and it wasn't comfortable for me anymore. I immediately wore my mask, packed my leftovers and left. Tip is to try to come for an early dinner to beat the crowds, or just get your food to go. Next time, I plan to try out their curry dishes.
