What can I say but wow! The service here is outstanding and Pete is simply the best as soon as I come in for car issues. All the employees are top notch and you will not find this kind of friendly , professional care anywhere else. The prices are reasonable and you will know that once whatever you have your vehicle in for it will be fixed in a timely manner and done right! Inside there is a seating area that's been remodeled and a television for you whilst you are waiting. If you need to go somewhere they'll send you a call or text to let you know your car is ready. I've came here a few times and never been disappointed. They do oil changes , inspections and more so if you are in need to mechanic this is the place to come!! I love it and won't take my vehicle anywhere else! Glad I found this place and I highly recommend it! Wow. Fantastic service. I had gone to another auto shop near where I live for them to diagnose and give me a quote on what was needed to fix. The car was not in the best drivable condition with the issues that it was having and I just had it in my head that this shop could fix it, no problem. After spending far too much at the other auto shop only to diagnose (nearly $200) - I was given a quote that was out of range of my budget for that month ($$$$) I don't know why I didn't go to Tony's Auto Service in the first place - it's closer to my apartment and I walk by the back of the shop multiple times a day. They're always polite and friendly. I called Tony's and asked for a quote based on the information that was provided to be from the other shop. I was in shock. Tony's quoted me 50% less than the other shop for the same exact work. Actually it was a bit more than 50% less ($$$). Dropped off my car in the AM, had a full quote emailed to me, called to confirm pricing, and picked it up that afternoon. Every person I spoke to there was kind, considerate, and didn't make feel like an idiot for knowing nothing about cars. The entire transaction was easy. Okie, I -USED- to a fan. No more. Anytime someone tells me that they are going to charge me $660 for a (just) replacing/changing an alternator - and previously have told me I need struts - when I don't - then sorry - you will loose my business. I had trusted Tony's in the past, and I am not sure what has happened since. My wife had gotten a estimate beforehand for the alternator, and they said $520 - so how it went from $520 to $660, overnight - neither of us understand why. I could understand a 10-15% error, but 30%? And no, it wasn't that they were doing a new vs remanufactured. The part on the internet for a BOSCH replacement was only $165. Even at 2 hours of labor at $50/hour - you still only get $260-300. Bottom Line: Was a fan, but fan no more. Get estimates in writing before they start any work, and be wary of any "late additional charges." [UPDATE: I found someone to put in a NEW alternator for $400.] read more

I was very nervous about going here at first because the reviews seemed to be either hit or miss. I went to Ourisman's for the oil change (which was $40 and I had no issues with that). But, of course they gave me a laundry list of stuff to fix with my truck. One of which was replacing the fuel filter for 200 bucks!!! Ourisman said I need to fix it ASAP b/c it was all rusty and would cause more damage. I called Tony's and they said they could do it for a heck of a lot cheaper. When I brought my truck they said it wasn't as bad as Ourisman said it was. But it still needed to be replaced. I am never going back to Ourisman! Overall, the staff at Tony's is very friendly. Yes, the waiting room isn't exactly a V.I.P. lounge but that is not what is going to make your car run! I observed other customers getting helped while I was waiting and the staff seems to truly care about their work and are dedicated to helping their customers. I'm glad I found Tony's! read more

Went to Tonys after stopping at another mechanic up the road who was super busy. He told me to go to Tonys for fast service. Boy was he spot on. Had to get a state inspection plus emission. Passed the emission test but not state inspection because windshield blades and bulb was out. Was told to come back in the morn while parts were ordered. Came back and light and windshield were replaced in 45 minutes while I waited in McDonald across the street. Prices were accurate and service was fast. Pete was one of the guys at the counter. He and another guy helped me yesterday. Both nice guys. Pete has a happy disposition and spirit. Ask for him but the other guy is good too. read more

I will never take my vehicle to Tony's again. I trusted the reviews of Tony's on Yelp (and AAA) and unfortunately it ended up costing me. OVERPRICED - My first trip to Tony's - I had a leaky hose, easy repair, but considering I don't have a garage to do the work myself (like most people in the area) I took it to Tony's to fix the leak and conduct a routine maintenance check. To my surprise, while fixing the hose, their mechanics found a number of things "in need of repair" - my power steering, brakes, O2 sensors, air bag sensors.. the list goes on. I trusted the reviews, and hoped the work would be done right. I paid the $1100.00 repair bill for ONLY power steering and brake repair, and ended up do the rest of the repair work (another $1000+) myself for $115.00 UNSAFE - When I got the car back, the mechanics failed to bleed my brakes. Which meant the first stop I attempted to make nearly didn't happen and I landed in the middle of on coming traffic. Obviously, I returned the car to have the brakes worked on again, at no cost, gee thanks. CROOKED- Again, I took my car to Tony's for AC repair. As a returning customer I thought perhaps Tony's would inspect the vehicle and could be trusted. WRONG. I was told a laundry list of problems, with a repair total of $1200.00 (for a $300.00 part). Their explanation was full of blatant lies. And after not agreeing to their repairs I was charged $100.00 for them to "repair" things I never consented to. read more

I walked in and immediately saw that Tony's is a certified Maserati repair shop, as well as a US Secret Service commendation for fine work. I think if both Maserati and President Bush were pleased enough with their work, that Tony's would be fine for my Toyota. My car had a weird vibrating/metal sound coming from the rear. I feared for the worst and though I'd need a new transmission. An associate at Secret Service recommended I go to Tony's who specializes in Toyotas. Tony's quickly diagnosed it as only a loose exhaust heat shield. They diagnosed, fixed and road tested it in apparently under .6 hrs, as that was all I was charged for. What a fantastic deal, especially when some garages would have just rebuilt the transmission to collect 2 grand from me. Tony's is also conveniently a block away from the Braddock Rd Metro, meaning I could drop off the car on Friday evening and Metro home. The only downside to Tony's is that they are closed on weekends so I dropped my car off on Friday evening but they didn't begin work on it until Monday morning. Whatever, for their honesty and good work, I'll be a repeat customer. read more

Tony's has sold to the awful Yates! If you loved Tony's, DO NOT GO to YATES!!!! I would never recommend them place to anyone. I only went there because I was a loyal customer to Tony's and didn't know where else to try, but clearly they sold to the wrong people. Wish I could give zero stars. I took my car in for an oil change, have a hub cap put back on when they checked for a low tire & a state inspection with emissions test. I have gone to tons of car dealerships & garages and no one has ever taken it upon themselves to clean my floor and rummage through my things without consent, but left all the dust on the dash. Paper floor mats are perfectly acceptable and would have rather had someone use that in my car. I understand customer service, but I genuinely don't like strangers touching my things & adjusting my things without my permission. I had prescription receipts and tons of personal things that someone saw when they rummaged through in order to vacuum my car. Vacuumed my car when I wanted to search for a sentimental necklace. Hence the dirt being on the floor. I'm so upset that I lost that possibility from a place that never asked for my consent. They also quoted me an atrocious amount of money for brakes when no one else in the area quoted me so much money. Yates is awful and you couldn't pay me to come back. OUTSTANDING SERVICE! WONDERFUL STAFF. I first went to Tony's in 2013 and they did an amazing job, fixing my car. Their prices were better than other places I talked to, and they didn't try to sell me on things I didn't need. I've since moved across town and earlier this year went to a dealership for repair work instead of Tony's. What a mistake! I was asked to buy parts that didn't even belong in my car, and frankly I didn't know better. I had a gut-feeling something was off so I brought my car back to Tony's and they told me what was really wrong (which saved me from wasting nearly $2k!) and had me out the door in a few hours. They don't take appointments, and it's first come, first serve but their process works well. Rest assured I won't be taking my car anywhere else! My second trip to Tony's since moving to the DMV was for a brake job and power steering issues... these things happen when you drive a 10-year-old car... but I digress. I was once again impressed with the courtesy, speed and professionalism of everyone I interacted with, both in person at the shop and on the telephone. The price was fair and I got my car back the very next morning. One thing to note is that Tony's is a short walk from Braddock Rd. Metro, which for me is a huge plus. It means that I can drop my car off when they open at 7am and still make it to work before just about anyone else. People who have problems with the cost are probably misinformed on the normal price of parts and labor at a professional mechanic. Tony's isn't a Pep Boys or some other discount shop, so you may be able to save money going to some place else, but their prices are fair and the work is good. Well worth the peace of mind. In the spring on 2013, I changed my own oil in my 2006 Saturn Ion and drove from Cleveland to the DC area. The engine was temp was a bit higher than normal, but I made it to my hotel in Alexandria. Normally I do my own repairs, but with no garage I took my car to Tony's first thing in the morning, which was walking distance from my hotel. I got a call a few hours later and was told the following (1) I was low on oil because my oil cap failed and needed replacement and (2) I needed a new radiator. Total estimated cost was $900 plus. I balked at the cost and was told "I don't get a commission here", which I presume is the standard line. It occurred to me that when I changed my oil at home I did not install the O-ring on the cap as I previously did and that's what caused my oil leak, not "cap failure" and that low oil would also explain a hot engine. The Tony's rep would have none that and expressed concern that I would drive back to Ohio without the unnecessary $900 repair. The only repair I accepted was a rather costly oil top-off. Picking up the vehicle was a bit comical, as it was parked on the street and the attendant did not seem to know exactly where. The Tony's tech apparently positioned the oil O-ring properly because I experienced no more oil leakage or elevated engine temperature. I drove the car home to Ohio without incident and my engine temp at the usual mark. Almost 3 years and 30,000+ miles later, I still have the same oil fill cap and radiator and have not had a single instance of overheating. Beware! Tony's made faulty or fraudulent diagnosis and wanted to perform costly and unnecessary repairs. read more

Similarly to Felecia W., I trusted the Yelp and AAA reviews of Tony's, but left disappointed. My first experience at the shop was fine-- my car was having trouble starting, so I dropped it off at Tony's on my way to work for a diagnosis. Ed called and said they couldn't find anything wrong, but suspected that the starter was going bad. I was pleasantly surprised that they were being honest and didn't just tell me I needed work done that I didn't. The 2 star rating comes from my second time at the shop. I dropped my Jeep off at Tony's for my safety and emissions tests. Got a call saying that my car failed because the fog lights were bad and that it'd either cost $400 to "replace all of the wiring" or one hour of work, which costs approximately $100, to just remove the fog lights from my car. I called a few other shops who all said that 1. very rarely do you ever have to replace "ALL" of the wiring in cars and 2. that it definitely wouldn't take one hour to unscrew the lights from underneath the bumper. I picked up my car, paid the inspection fees, and took my car to another shop right down the road who charged me for less than half hour of work to remove the lights. Moral of the story, there are better shops around the area who are willing to be much more reasonable than the folks at Tony's. read more

Some part under my car hood was making a whining noise. I took the car to Japanese Auto City to diagnose the problem. Broken alternator, they said, $250 for the part, $170 for the labor. I asked if they'd install an alternator I went out and bought myself. Sure, but it would take 2-3 hours at $88/hour. Thinking that price was ludicrous, I gave Tony's Auto Service a call. Tony's said the alternator replacement would take 1.1 hours at $96/hour. In the end, I spent $91 on the alternator (through a third party) and $105.60 on the labor - much better than the $420 I would've dumped at the other place. Thank you Tony's. read more

I have a 14yr old car that is discontinued and needed to have the muffler replaced. I took it to a local popular mechanic just down the road from Tony's and they quoted me at $850 for parts and labor, because the part was difficult to find and needed to be ordered in. I called a few different shops around to get a quote and almost all of them quoted me at the $700-850 range or told me they couldn't find the part to do the service or that i couldn't order my own parts and pay them for the labor. Tony's was honest up front and said the part was difficult to find, but also said that if i found it online for cheaper and brought it in, they would do the service and simply charge for labor. I found the part online, had it shipped to Tony's and as soon as it arrived they immediately took my car in to replace the rusted muffler. I didn't have to wait days to make an appointment, i was there the next day and they accommodated me and my work schedule. They also did the job in an hour, and only charged me for that hour of labor which was very reasonable and comparable to prices in the area. In the end, i ended up saving over $500 to replace the muffler on an old car, and i was so impressed by their friendliness, honesty and quick service that i will def. be bringing my car in for future maintenance and repairs. I just really liked that they were so nice and funny right off the bat, and that they understood i had a budget and thus wanted to order my own parts. They didn't give me a hard time about it, did a real honest job, and did it quickly. I saved a lot of money and found a new car shop to service my car at. With an old discontinued car, i spend a lot of time looking for places to service it and to do an honest job too. I am really glad i found Tony's and recommend people give them a shot. They're real good guys and will do their best to take care of you and help you out! read more

After having the error pointed out, they were not only totally understanding, but ended up nixing the charge altogether for that particular service. BUYER BEWARE. I recently brought my car to Tony to check out. I clearly indicated that I did NOT want work to be performed without my written authorization (which is Virginia State Law). Tony calls me back a couple days later only to tell me that work was complete and stuck me with a whopping bill. I reminded him that I didn't authorize the work, and would not pay. He did not care and threatened to keep my car and charge me a daily storage fee until I paid. My only recourse was to either pay or go to court. I chose to pay and get my car. To add insult to injury, my car was not repaired and a number of components were further damaged. I ended up getting rid of the car because of so many problems. Took our 10 year old Lexus with 108000 miles to them based on recommendations. Cars ride was rough and it felt like brakes had issues. Determined that tires contributed to rough ride and needed to be replaced. I had no issue and had them replace all tires. The next day one was flat and another low. Turns out they did not install valve stems properly and air was leaking. Sounds like a basic thing to check. The rims also had scrapes and black dirt all the way around. Fingerprints and grease covered the rims. They say scrapes are from hitting curbs but I do not believe that this accounts for all scrapes. One employee agreed with me. Cleaning the rims prior to returning the vehicle should be standard too, but they deal mostly with fleet vehicles so the drivers probably don't sweat the details. The money is not coming out of their pocket! Also not convinced that the brakes were bled so I need to take car to dealership to confirm. I won't be taking other cars to them in the future. read more

Finding a good, honest, fair mechanic is like finding a dentist who doesn't try to yank your wisdom teeth on your first visit (true story dental story 1), or insist on a gum scraping when it's not necessary (true dental story 2). Tony''s Auto Service looks like the garage from Chico & the Man, but don't judge a book by its cover. Metro, many cab companies, and even the Secret Service apparently trust Tony's for their vehicle repairs, and I've used them for four years now for everything from state inspections, to major repairs, to body work (they're replacing a latch in my door even as I write this). Tony himself is a first generation Italian immigrant, and has operated a service station (Gulf) for decades (the one that used to be on the corner of Washington Street and Montgomery, for those native Alexandrians who remember the "old" Old Town). His garage is now located in walking distance to the Braddock Street Metro and a huge bonus is that I can walk to work from this location. The staff is professional and all seem to really love their jobs. One example of his fairness--a particular oil change place tried to get me to have their mechanic replace my brake fluids for $65 a few months ago. I said thanks but no thanks to this oil change place (that shall remain nameless, as I usually have good luck with this place). I took my car to Tony's, which could have seized the opportunity to confirm and charge me for unnecessary replacement. Not only did they say the fluids weren't needed, they gave me a courtesy alignment---they didn't charge me since they didn't tell me about doing it beforehand. Tony's has many loyal customers, and I'm happy to say I'm one of them. read more

Two weeks ago I took my car to Tony's auto for new brakes (4 rotors and 4 brake pads). I took the car in at 7 a.m. and had it back by 3 p.m. and it cost a little over $700 (about half for parts and half for labor). They also promised to rotate my tires during this time. A day later, I noticed my horn wasn't working so I brought my car back. They ordered a horn and charged me $50 for the horn and $100 for half an hour of labor. They told me they had to order the exact Honda horn for my car, which is why it was more expensive. Unfortunately, they ordered the wrong horn, so I had to bring my car back again the next week. The horn they put in my car was obviously not the Honda horn. It sounded completely different than the horn I had before. So what did they charge me for? And what did they put in my car? On a different day the next week, I brought my car in for an oil change and inspection. Again, they had my car from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and I was charged $62 for both. This seems pretty high considering a state inspection is $16. Also, why does it take a whole day to change my oil and inspect my car? SO, a couple days later I was picking my mom up at the airport and the noise in my car, which began right after I got my new brakes, started getting louder. I found the best rated mechanic closest to where I was and took it in (which happened to be in Sterling, VA). They said my ball bearings were bad and needed to be replaced (Although I realize the ball bearings are not related to the brakes, could Tony's have caught this?) As they were fixing my car, they pointed out some issues: A. they said my tires desperately needed to be rotated as the problem with the ball bearings was wearing on my front tires (Tony's said they rotated my tires but never did) and B. My new brakes are really cheap and will not last long (which I figured because my car is breaking at the same slow rate that it was before I got all new brakes). The mechanic also said I overpaid for the services with Tony's. Before learning how much my brakes cost, he quoted me $500. Needless to say, I will not be taking my car back to Tony's. read more

Like other people in the area, I wanted to Tony's--support local businesses, near my home, etc. Unfortunately, what I found was an overpriced shop with inefficient customer service. I took my Honda in for an oil change. It cost nearly $50! The worst was that when I went to pick up my car, it took over 45 minutes for me to pay, have them to locate my car, and pull it around. I have my car towed to this shop since it was the closest. I described the symptom and ask them to particular check the battery and alternator. The battery was only 3 days old. They claim my battery was low but the alternator was fine. I asked them to make sure several time. Each time they assured me everything was up to spec. I took my car out and it die on me after about 7 miles driving. I bought the car to another repair shop a day later. The alternator only put out 10.7 volts, which is more than 3 volts below spec. this is the reason why my car did not charge the battery. How it is possible for them to find nothing wrong while all the symptoms were there? They either miss-diagnostic or did not even check the alternator or try to determine what when was wrong with the car. Either case, this is this shop just want to have my money for not perform the needed task. Stay away from them! read more

Not only does Tony's have the best customer service (everyone is always so helpful and courteous, and Mike at the front desk walks me out to my car if I pick it up after sundown), but also it's convenient to drop off my car on my way to work, since the Braddock Road Metro stop is just 2 or 3 blocks away, and then pick it up on my way home. I had a terrible experience here. Here's the story: (TL;DR: Brought the car in 3 times. $450.00 later, the car still isn't fixed and is in worse shape than before. Customer service was one of the most unprofessional groups I've dealt with.) I had a water leak in my BMW. Water would somehow get into the car when it rained and the carpet would be wet. Yes, the windows were up :) Trip 1: I bring it here, they say they know how to fix it. They give it back to me, "Its fixed". They charge me $200.00. A few days later, it rains and my car is wet inside again. I call them back and tell them its not fixed. Trip 2: I drop it off. A couple days later, they give it back to me and tell me they did something slightly different and its fixed now. The cost is 250.00.. fine, no problem, glad its fixed. I go home and get out my garden hose and spray down the car. The carpet is wet. I call them back again and tell them its not fixed. This time I talk to Tony himself who says he'll take care of it and to come in at 7am the following day and see him. Trip 3: I get there at 7am, Tony is nowhere to be found. He shows up 35 minutes later very angry because apparently something happened between him and his wife (I'm like a deer in headlights... like what is going on??). I tactfully tell him the issue and that I've been back 3 times, and this this is really frustrating, etc. He threatens me and asks me if I want to get into "an argument"? Ummmm, no thanks, just want my car fixed. He says ok. I leave my car reminding myself to make sure the break lines haven't been sliced when I pick it up. Pick up: I come a few days later to get the car. Tony says he fixed it. I ask him if we can drive around back and test it with his garden hose. He says no, its close to 5pm, test it yourself. I have no choice but to leave. End result: Car still leaks. The plastic and door panel on the back rear door are loose and sometimes come off when I shut the door because the fasteners are damaged from removing the door panel incorrectly. **I'd avoid this place like the plague** read more

Went here for a state inspection yesterday. Everyone was so pleasant,and friendly. I would definitely go back for any needed repairs.

I was so impressed with the service at Tony's!! Jerry and Mike provided absolute great service for me and at a better price then many places I had called for service. They called me to let me know if something else was needed and the exact price it would cost. I would recommend them to family and friends and go back for other auto needs. read more
