(1 Star Review) On June 12, 2026, I dropped my vehicle off at the Japanese Auto Service Center at approximately 11:15 AM. I requested an oil change, tire rotation and balance, and a diagnosis of an A/C and heater blower motor issue that I believed required replacement. When I arrived, an attendant moved my vehicle and advised that it also needed a Virginia state inspection. While discussing the work, I asked whether there were any additional maintenance items they would recommend. A few hours later, I received a call recommending additional services, including brake service, a transmission fluid flush, and spark plug replacement. I approved the work after being told the vehicle would be ready before closing. At approximately 5:45 PM, having not received a completion call, I contacted the shop and was told my vehicle was finished and ready for pickup. I immediately walked over to the shop and met with the manager, Ed. While paying my bill, which totaled more than $1,100, Ed suddenly realized he had not addressed the inspection sticker. He grabbed a scraper and a new Virginia inspection sticker and walked to my vehicle. My windshield has been professionally tinted for several years. The vehicle had already passed a previous Virginia state inspection with the same windshield tint, and the inspection sticker was still visible. While attempting to remove the existing sticker, Ed used a scraper on the tinted windshield. He then stated that he needed Windex because of the tint. After returning with Windex, I observed visible damage and residue on the tint film where the scraper had been used. The damage is clearly visible in the photographs I took immediately afterward. When I pointed out the damage and stated that the shop would need to repair it, the entire conversation changed. Up until that point, he had been preparing to remove the old inspection sticker and install a new one. Once I raised the issue of the damage, he suddenly claimed that he could not complete the inspection because the windshield was tinted and that I needed tint authorization language on my registration. When I asked him to identify the law or regulation requiring such language on my registration, he could not provide one. I pointed out that he had been actively preparing to install a new inspection sticker moments earlier. He responded that he was going to do so "to make me feel better." He then refused to repair the damage caused to the tint. I requested the owner's contact information. Initially, he stated he would provide it. Later, he refused, claiming the owner was overseas and unavailable. He suggested I contact the Virginia State Police inspector who oversees inspection stations. However, whether the tint complies with Virginia regulations is separate from the fact that damage to my vehicle had already been caused during the inspection process. What concerns me most is the complete lack of accountability. Rather than acknowledging the damage and discussing how to resolve it, the conversation immediately shifted toward blaming the customer. This is not the first time I have experienced this. During a previous repair involving aftermarket shocks, I was also told the problem was my fault rather than due to installation or workmanship issues. As a customer, I can accept mistakes. What I cannot accept is damage to my vehicle, followed by shifting explanations, refusal to take responsibility, and an unwillingness to make things right. The result was a bill exceeding $1,100, unresolved concerns regarding the work performed, damage to my windshield tint, and no meaningful attempt to address the issue. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Japanese Auto Service Center. If something goes wrong, do not expect accountability, transparency, or customer service. This version is strong because it stays factual, documents the timeline, and avoids statements that could be challenged as speculation or defamation. SCAM ALERT!!! I got all 4 tires replaced here in 2024. A year later, one of them fell apart (I'm talking shredded) while I was driving on the highway, causing me to nearly crash into a barrier. When I took my car to a tire shop, they noticed that the tires were from 2017 (7 years old) and were dry rotted. Two other tires had bubbles and I ended up getting all 4 replaced since they were so old and were likely to fall apart from dry rot. DO NOT GO HERE. read more

I had a very disturbing experience at this shop. I brought my car in to be checked out and without authorizing any repairs, they went ahead and performed over $1,700 worth of work I never approved. When I questioned it, they refused to release my car unless I paid for the unauthorized repairs and then threatened to charge a daily storage fee for every day I didn't pay. This was one of the most unprofessional and unacceptable repair experiences I've ever had. Based on what happened to me, I cannot recommend this shop to anyone. read more

Great place. I've been going there for 15 years with three different cars. Always a fair price and always fast. Ed, the owner, is so helpful and friendly. I used to get my oil changed at Jiffy Lube and then with to Ed with the laundry list of recommendations that they gave me. Ed was very honest and told me that I didn't need this and that, now I go to Ed for an oil change. Dec 2025 -- this is our experience, there are others on here -- Ed and the mechanic team were awesome -- took a car in for a 2d opinion based on the original very expensive quote from a local area shop -- mechanics did a thorough re-evaluation to validate findings, then put the car on the lift and walked me through what they saw -- they reduced the original estimate by half and had the work finished within 24 hours....and even showed me the old parts and the new part boxes to show they were Japanese parts, not manufactured elsewhere. The worst experience ever!! Wish I read the reviews. Took my car in because the air conditioner stopped working. I don't know much about cars. Told them the air wasn't cooling. The owner hurriedly took my info and promised to have it ready the next day Friday . I had a long trip planned for Saturday AM. Called me later and gave me the price for radiator and other things. I trusted like a fool and agreed to the repairs, $1400. Went to pick up and the air conditioner was still blowing hot air. Stood around for Three hours with no update, kept telling me to sit and wait. They did nothing for three hours when I checked. Then he drove off with my car without an explanation, came back and said it's the compressor another $800. Less than a week later, the compressor stops working and the radiator is leaking, another $2400 to fix. I am in Florida now and they want me to bring the car back to them. How do I do that, the radiator is leaking? The owner hung up on me, so not sure what the answer is. He won't respond. read more

If you use their service, make sure you repeat questions/ requests and record or write down any promises. They are also loose with the facts (I was told my car was worked on for two hours when it was in the parking lot for an hour before being in the garage for a half hour). Little things like that. I had a car window replaced here in 2014 and decided to go here in 2021 to have them address some electrical issues I was having with my car. When I dropped it off I was told it would be ready in a few days. After a few days the receptionist/billing said that the work hadn't been completed yet but would be ready tomorrow. I never got a call after a couple of days and went in again. The car was 'ready' but she hadn't called me back. They performed unnecessary work that I didn't ask them to do, and the labor costs were excessive for what I'd asked for initially. To make matters worse, when I highlighted some issues that weren't completed, though on billing they indicated that they were preformed. The owner said to leave it overnight and it'd be fixed but I told him I had to drive to Bristol, VA that afternoon. He pleaded with me to leave it but I told him that they had more than enough time to fix it and had already charged me. He said I could bring it back in later to have the remaining issue fixed for free, brought the car in after returning from my trip, took multiple days to repair and still charged me $25. read more

We walked in around 12pm and were informed that there was one car in front of us so our estimated time was 40 min. After about an hour we returned and our car was ready for us! Posting on behalf of my boyfriend because hes not a Yelper and I need to share his experience. At first i thought Ed was ripping me off when my car failed an emissions test. i've driven less than 10,000 miles in 3 years but I drive a used GTI. Ed charged $150 to diagnose the problem, and it turned out I had quite a few. Most mechanics charge by the book for their work, but since Ed had to drop my transmission he did a few other bits of work for no additional charge. The job ended up taking a few extra days longer, but he provided calls and videos of everything as well as he saved all the old parts for my inspection. I definitely apologized after yelling at him the first day, but over all the experience was great and the staff was friendly. The gas prices are also cheaper there so I get my gas there now as well. Definitely will be returning to Ed for my mechanical needs. I just hope that isn't often hahah. read more

I was told my car would be ready at 8:30. I returned at 8:35 to a car that hadn't even been started. Once I said I had to leave by 9, they took my car real quick. Sadly I have been forced to take my car here twice (10 years apart) after scratching them on garage poles. They quote you quickly and get the job done in an efficient manner. I find them to be professional and honor their pricing without being pushy. I honestly haven't been able to find anyone to match their prices (especially if you pay cash) and the paint always looks good as new. Beware. The owner will definitely cheat you. I had to take him to court and he lost. He loves to tell you how much you will pay if you took your car to the dealer. His name is Foliad (Ed) Lahrime. He came to court and lied to the judge saying that I yelled and cursed him. A total lie. I did not even have an argument with him. Judge didn't believe him. He is such a crook that he even had another case against him at the court the same day as mine. Now imagine this: you take your car to a mechanic, he lies about what you need and then overcharges you. (He actually told me a part was not working that made me pay more.) Then when you take him to court he lies to the judge about you. That's what Ed did. Total DISRESPECT to his customers. When I declined, they gave me a rejection with "other lights" as the part that failed inspection - which obviously wasn't the "tire issue" they claimed I had. I can't believe this place is still in business. Wow I came here several years ago to replace a catalytic converter. After the job was completed, I started to drive home and heard an awful scraping sound as I drove slowly over a decline in their parking lot. I immediately got out of the car and walked back into the shop where they put my car on the lift. Turns out, they had failed to properly fix the undercarriage of my car, which was hanging low and had scraped the concrete as I was driving toward the street. Not knowing much about mechanical issues and just wanting my car back, I let Ed and his Russian-sounding mechanic convince me that it was no big deal, no real damage done on all of the repairs I had just paid for. Two months later, my car failed an emissions test, and I was told my catalytic converter was bad. I was shocked since I had just replaced it for around $2000. I called the shop and Ed adamantly denied there was anything wrong with the work his shop had done. Desperate since I was out of money and my car had to get past the emission requirements, I did a little online research and found out that replacement converters had a mandated warranty. I called Ed back and told him that federal law required new replacement converters to be covered under 5-year or 50,000 mile warranty. At this, he finally relented and allowed me to bring my car back to replace his replacement converter. This was a mistake on my part since his shop messed up the first replacement. After I picked my car up the second time, Ed's wife, who was working at the front desk, presented me with some "legalese" document she had drafted that insisted their shop was not at fault, rather I was at fault, for the damaged part. Needless to say, I refused to sign and Ed and his wife refused to hand over my car keys until I did. I threatened to call the police for withholding my keys and Ed said, "no I'm calling the police." Minutes later, police show up and inform Ed and his wife that they cannot legally refuse to return my car or force me to sign their (false) claim. This place is SUPER sketchy. I read some reviews here saying that Ed is a nice guy. No -- he comes across as friendly and gregarious but this is what I call "fake nice." Don't be duped by their shoddy work or allow yourself to be intimidated by Ed or his wife's threats. read more

Awful service..they overcharged me for basic task. $200 just to take the wheels off my car. Then instead of actually checking my axle which is why I came in they just drove it around for 30 seconds and said it was fine. I should have left immediately...I arrived and the mechanic had a terrible attitude. I want to take a moment to tell you about Mr. Ed. Yesterday morning, my front passenger tire was a little low. I went to the gas station by my house (in MD)to get it looked at as I suspected a nail. They weren't opened yet, so I put air in my tire before heading to work. As I was putting air, I saw bubbles and saw, in a fact, a nail. I work in Arlington, so my colleague told me about Goodyear on Wilson Blvd; plus you trust a recommendation. I went and told them I have a nail in my tire. JP was nice, said they could look at the car in a little over an hour. He also said they'd call when they confirmed what was wrong and then discuss options before performing the work. I said ok great; left my car and walked to work. Around 11am they called and said it was a nail but they couldn't fix it and that I needed a new tire and they could have it by 5pm that day and it'd be $200.76. WTF. It's a nail. How could that cost me $200?! I told them no. Thank you but I didn't have the money today. I went to pick up my car around 4pm. The guy asked me again if I wanted them to repair it. I kindly said no thank you. He said they'll pull my car around and they'll check the pressure for me. Got my car and the pressure was low, so I went back in and told them. He apologized and went to put air. As I was pulling out, I saw the Japanese Auto Clinic. I thought to myself, let me try them. Being told I needed a new tire for a nail didn't sit right with me. OMG, SO glad I stopped by! Receptionist is a young kid, nice guy. After asking, he said they could look at it, so I waited. Maybe 5 minutes later Mr. Ed came, got into my car and did his thing. I waited maybe 20 minutes, if that. Mr. Ed said it's ready. He asked if I went to a construction site. LoL. I responded no. Because I had a second nail in my front passenger tire! I then tell him about Goodyear. He acknowledged and said they tired to cheat me. I don't need a new tire. The ones I have are fine and they would last me maybe another 2 years. He asked if I wanted the second nail removed. Of course I said yes. A FRACTION, literally fraction of what Goodyear quoted! I asked him about the shop. He's been there for 30 years and does everything. Oil changes, maintenance, anything. And he's open on Saturdays. I told him even though I lived in MD, I'd come back because of him. I can't thank him enough. He not only validated my "it's just a nail" thought but genuinely cared and is clearly passionate about what he does. He was hustling between his customers' cars.
