Arrived at Tony's at about 8:35pm (they close at 9). The drive through lady, Susie, seemed upset that we arrived 25 minutes before closing. To be fair, I'm only off on tuesdays and Wednesday's so this was the only time I had to get shakes for my family. We ordered 1 small hot fudge shake, 1 small cookies and cream shake and 1 large cookies and cream shake. We got our shakes and only the hot fudge shake was correct. The other two were cookie dough shakes, no biggie right I can go explain and they'll fix it. Wrong. My wife took them inside and dealt with Susie repeating over and over about how we got it wrong and it's all our fault. Another female remade the shakes but this time they came out like water. Crappy customer service by Susie. That was an embarrassment on how to treat your loyal customers. We have been coming here for years and no we'll never return. It had been a long time since we'd been to Tony's Coneys. We used to live pretty close to it and visited more often, but since we moved, we haven't been back. So we were over on that side of town one Saturday and decided it was time to revisit. My husband and I got a 5 coneys with cheese deal for $7.50. The sides are a la carte, and we ordered fries and mac n cheese bites. The cashier asked if we wanted sour cream with those, and we both thought it sounded odd, but we both really liked it. The fries are seasoned nicely and don't require any assistance from ketchup. I'm not a fan of ketchup, so this is the kind of fries I dig. The coneys were great! I ate 2 of the 5, leaving 3 for my husband, which was a perfect amount of food for us. Every time we go, we think we should try the ice cream, but then we forget to leave room for it. Again this happened, so I have yet to try the ice cream, but the flavors sound enticing, and one day we will go in there just for that! Only reason why I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because it sometimes can take awhile ordering food is there is a line in front of you. When they take an order, they fix your food and get it to you before taking the next order. However, there is space to wait inside or outside. I have been wanting to try Tony's for awhile and once I finally got to try it I was sadly disappointed. The staff was grumpy and abrupt with all the customers. We headed to Tony's Coneys on a hot day in search of some decent ice-cream. Tony's used to be a few buildings down the road eventually, but they've moved in this old.... House.. commercial property thing. Try mentioning the old location to one of the teenage workers there.. they'll give you some 'deer-in-headlights' look, and then you will feel instantly old. They have a drive thru, outside walkup window, and indoor ordering counter. There were plenty of patrons giving them business on this extra hot day, the patio seating was pretty much packed out. Tony's offers a lot more than just ice-cream. They also have well.. Coneys, chicken fingers, burgers and other hot items that would probably make for a good lunch. This place reminds me of a small place down in Circleville called 'Shopes', which I think USED to be a Tony's Coneys before that. Same décor, and same setup. The whole fire place in the dining area is a little bizarre. Pretty sure I could have bricked that in, or tried to hide it. It's pretty much an eyesore for the dining area, but then again... The whole place isn't really shaped around ambiance to begin with. Anyways, the ice cream was very dismal. I think their machine was literally having a meltdown, because our ice cream was just that. It was pretty much some soupey and milky mess mixed with some candy in a cup, and this is literally seconds after it being handed to us. Very disappointing. The buns are soft and the amount of toppings are perfect. I added mustard because no hot dog/coney can be eaten without mustard. Also got a banana and chocolate milkshake. Full bits of banana in the milkshake and it is the perfect consistency. Straws are extra thick as well so that those bits never clog up the straw. This place is definitely more than meets the eye. When you see it from the street or walk inside, it's nothing incredible to look at. The parking is intense at time given it is right off a busy street. There is alot of times a freezer burnt smell on the inside. The food however is magnificent though! I find myself always getting coneys with the works. The flavors blend together in an amazing harmony. The fries, even though they are not anything over the top, are always cooked to perfection and can be topped with a multitude of things. Their milkshakes are some of the best around! Not a MUST stop. You may be just as satisfied at Dairy Queen. I must compare TC to it's peers. Any ice cream stand selling some hot food items also. The big difference is the name. They put the hot food item "Coney's" in the name, rather than some version of "Dairy Bar, Isle, Stand or Frozen". The hot dogs and sauce is all the rave. Why? A $1.50 coney sold anywhere is a screaming deal. I sold grilled hot dogs WITHOUT coney sauce at a garage sale for $1.50. I couldn't touch that price. Here's the facts... Standard, not 1/4lb hot dog boiled. Standard white hot dog bun un-grilled or steamed. Yellow mustard, not ballpark spicy or brown. Coarse chopped raw white onions. Coney sauce without beans that's warm. Wrap it all up in a piece of deli paper, drop into brown paper lunch sack Really looks like what you make at home if you boil your dogs, and heat up a can of grocery store coney sauce. Sorry. It did not blow my skirt up. Luckily it was a one time venture to the other side of the city for this. I will stop at other options next time. OH WAIT! The ice cream. Ordered a Salty Carmel Shake. Almost did a spit take on the dashboard. I gagged on the kosher salt that flowed into my gullet. Absolutely a caramel shake with a scoop of salt added, according to the staffer. Starting working in the West Columbus area roughly a year ago and had never heard of Tony's Coneys until being in the area. Boy, had I been missing out! I love coneys, period. Being a native to the southern part of the Buckeye State, I have been eating at Skyline Chili since I can remember. No one is Skyline but Tony's Coneys is an easy second choice for me! Wow, are they great! I was a little skeptical of the "works" dog (mustard, onion, chili, cole slaw) because of the coleslaw but I'm here to tell you just give it a shot. They're very, very good! I work very close to this lil mom n pop joint so when i want to get my coney fix on i hit em up. They r good not great but they get the job done. The burgers remind u of what u can make at home but they also r kinda tasty. I have not had the shakes but there r always people in line grabbin em. Basically a mom and pop Dairy Queen with better food and comparable ice cream. They are known for there coneys but I'm there fried items and sandwiches are just as delicious. Like Dairy Queen they hire high school kids, but they are on it. Stay away from the drive thru if you are in a hurry, if you get to a certain point there is no way you can turn around so be dedicated if you want to stay in your car. They are not the fastest in general, but once you try the food you'll see why there is a line and people just deal with it. read more

This is a fantastic little place hidden on the west side. It's probably not so hidden for the people who have gone here for over 30 years, but it's certainly new to me! What drew me to Tony's Coneys was the mention of soft serve ice cream. I'm such a sucker for good soft serve, and hardly anywhere in town does it well. Tony's Coneys specializes in (you guessed it) coneys! They also do everything you'd expect from a short order place--burgers, fries, etc. And they're equally known for their desserts. They carry Hershey's scoops, but I'm not sure why you'd get that when they have old fashioned soft serve--in vanilla and chocolate! The food is great for what it is--delicious, greasy goodness. If that's what you're in the mood for, you won't be disappointed. It's not something you'd want to eat every day, but it certainly does the trick. And the ice cream? Perfect. Exactly what I wanted. Please don't go here expecting Jeni's--that's not what this is about. The people working at Tony's are also spectacular. They are always extremely sweet and helpful. I asked my husband to go out of our way to get coneys here because we were nearby, despite after work traffic congestion. I called in order to "save time" only to arrive, wait for the three people in front of me and the order hadn't been made. What can I say about Tony's Coneys? Well, let me start by saying that I grew up in North Florida. The only thing I know about "Coney" is the one in New York. So, not being "schooled" from a young age on the coney experience... all Tony's needed to do to make me a fan was not make me sick. Okay, I am not giving them enough credit with that statement... they did more than not make me sick... they made me SO HAPPY. I had my first visit while a certain someone was in the hospital having surgery. Susan R said she'd head out the west side and meet me for dinner and we chose Tony's based on the positive reviews. We were both smitten from the get-go. Y'all, I am a coney FAN. If I lived over near this place, I'd be eating them all the time. Thank goodness I don't. The menu here is pretty extensive. Now, if you have a problem with fried or breaded things... don't come here. You can ask for a coney without a bun... and they won't even bat an eye. I've also had the coney burger... pretty tasty but comes in second after the coney. For sides: Corn nuggets are legit. The fries were pretty delish too. AND THEN THEY HAVE SHAKES TOO. I have been here a ridiculous number of times over the past couple of weeks. Tony's Coneys is fab. It's not a hidden gourmet delight or anything like that; if you grew up in a place with a local burger drive-in or something similar, expect it to be like a good version of that. Some of the food is excellent, some is less excellent (luckily, these are not main items and can easily be avoided). The delicious things I've had so far: -- Coneys. They're simple and good. -- Coney burger. For whatever reason, there's a massive lack of chili cheeseburgers in Columbus (what gives, Cbus?), but the coney burger hits the spot with a very similar flavor profile. Their burger patties are hand-patted, which has a texture that the machine-made patties can't replicate. -- The fries are pretty legit. They're not like, amaaazing, but they're not bad at all. They will slather these fries in coney sauce if you want. Do recommend. -- Peanut Butter shake. OMG. Their shakes are a great texture to start with (not too runny and not too thick--these ain't rib-breakers), and the PB shake has been my favorite ice cream experience there so far. It's craveable. Keith M. is all about the chocolate shake. -- Corn nuggets. Keith M. ordered these and they were delightful. Things I probably wouldn't order again: -- Spudsters. These were sold to me as deep-fried mashed potatoes . . . which, if they had a pierogi-like filling, could have been good. They were pretty bland as it was. Tasted like boxed mashed potatoes that were breaded and fried. -- Orange shake. Meh. I mean, I didn't expect gourmet orange flavor, but it was just a little too artificial for me, and overly sweet. I was wanting something that tasted like a push-pop or a creamsicle. Did not hit that mark. The other great thing about Tony's Coneys is the low cost. A small shake is $2. A coney is $1.50 (1.75 if you get cheese). A burger is $4 or less. And it tastes good--not like you'd expect a $2 shake to taste NOW, but like you would have expected it to taste when you were a kid. I get the same darn thing every time: Burger with cheese, lettuce, tomato, and lite mayo; side of corn nuggets, and small mint chocolate chip milkshake. The burgers are always grilled hot and fresh. I really like this little family run place on the west side. It had been a long time since I visited here but I stopped in for a milkshake the other day. $2.25 for a medium shake that is the size of a large at other places, great deal. I really enjoyed this place. I got a Banana and Choc. Milkshake which had real bananas in the shake. I love real fruit in a shake, this place knows how to make them. The place is a nice little place with Hershey's ice cream and a lot of homemade food. The coney's aren't too bad either. They also have great prices on all of the food. They have great value for the price. The service is great as they treat you special and give you the proper attention a customer deserves. i would try this place out. read more

Been going to Tony's Coney's since I was little little. Back in the day when they were over on the corner of Hilliard-Rome Rd. & West Broad St. Beside the IGA that use to be right on the corner. I remember my Great grandmother bringing us & talking to her friend she went to church with. Her and my grandmother both knew the owners. Hot summer days, we'd go and grab our Coney's or a quart of their chili sauce. Then we'd head over to Livco and swim for hours or go home and make our own Coney's with the sauce. When we were in high school, our mom and grandma would pick us up and we'd go grab either some Coney's with milkshakes or the delicious homemade chocolate chip ice cream sandwiches. Then, as I had my own kids, we take our occasional trip to go get our Coney's and shakes. This is THE place that is original, aged within the community that everyone that's grown up around the area has been to, worked at and loved for many many years. Ok, I'm a west-sider so I may be biased, but the reality is that this is the coney against which I measure all other coneys on flavor and value. Really. Pros: long-standing family-run west side tradition with drive-thru, walk-up and dine-in options. I always get the 2 coney, chips and shake special for $4.75 out the door. This was our second trip here, the first one being the week between Christmas and New Year, which we found out, they are closed. Hey, everyone deserves a vacation, right? So, since we were on the west side and we don't get over there very often, plus we were hungry, we decided to go to Tony's Coneys bc we have always heard such wonderful things about them! We looked them up on our handy dandy Yelp app, looked up the hours and the address and were on our way! We found it with ease in just a few minutes, pulled up, eagerly anticipating our chance to try the famous Tony's Coneys! As we drove up, there was a torrential downpour but we saw there was a drive thru. What luck! So we got in line & then my husband decided to just go inside & order. He came out about 12 minutes later. I had told him if they're small to get me 2 and if they're big, just 1. He got me 2. Their dogs are boiled. Their sauce is okay but there wasn't much of it, but the good thing about it is it's made with no beans! I got mine with mustard and onions also. The onions are minced and were very mild, not a lot of taste. Come to think of it, I'd have to say the same thing about the boiled hot dog and the sauce. The buns are not toasted or anything, and the coney is just rolled up in deli paper. My husband also came out with a large milkshake. I asked the flavor and he said it's one of your favorites. I took a big suck on the straw and got the nastiest taste of... salt! A whole lotta SALT! I said What did you get?!?! He said salty caramel. I handed it to him and he took a draw and his face looked the same as mine had seconds earlier. He got out of the car and came back about 6-7 minutes later. He said, She said they always put a scoop of rock salt in it. (It was waaay tooo much!!!) I said did you tell her how nasty it was? All I could taste was salt! He said yes. Try this. The second one was a chocolate caramel. Much much better!! All in all, it's a cute little dairy shack that serves sandwiches, and regular dairy shack food. It has great prices but average food. This used to be one of the best coney shops in Columbus. The quality is not what it ised to be, the hotdogs taste like they are full of filler tabd they have no snap when you bite into them. The coney sauce has little flavor and even less seasoning. What's sad is this is the second best coney in town next to skyline chili. read more
