As a loyal customer for this Tony's location I am very disappointed and disgusted after a long morning I was craving chicken noodle soup and as im eating this soup i felt something crunchy. This Tony's grocery store seems to be newer than some of the others in the city. The Isles are large and neatly organized. The store is clean and the sections are open and inviting. Sometimes the fruits and produce are not that fresh, so make sure you inspect it thoroughly. It's in a mall, so they're usually is parking available, but I'm busy days you may have to park a little farther away from the entrance. My biggest complaint about the store is that they run out of the items that are on special all the time and you need to get rain checks for these products. read more

Only one star in order to write! I usually go here early morning. Go with my list and out quickly so my husband can get to work on time and I do the baby sitting. Today was my last day at TONY'S. I have been a loyal customer since they opened. Not any more. Self check outs only. No cashiers were opened. Machine kept requesting for assistant. As if I was stealing produce. One of my expensive over priced sofritos fell. I had to type in the produce I had. My husband was complaining because he had to hurry to get to work. Never again. I had a lot of items - it would had worked out better with an open register. Female Mgr there saw it and didn't care. I guess no one really wants to work anymore, or someone doesn't want to pay workers. The whole ordeal was a waste of my time. Took longer than usual. I'm more of a Jewel and Mariano's person because I once worked at Jewel and there is no Tony's near me, but I love coming here when I bring my grandma here most Saturdays. The prices are so much cheaper than Jewel, and they have tons of delicious looking hot bar food, as well as deli. If I buy hot cappicola at Jewel, it is about $11/lb, but at Tony's, it's only $5/lb. AND, the cappicola tastes 100x better here than at Jewel, too. The aisles here are clean and organized, and they are always faced when I come. I always come here for the spicy ramen noodles that they dont sell at the Jewel near my house (Chili flavor and picante beef flavor). The front end is always very busy, and I'm not a fan of how short the belts are at the registers, but the cashiers are nice here and I haven't had a problem. read more

Wow, this location is waaaaaaay way better than the store on Fullerton. Oh my gosh, so much better. The aisles are wider, the store is cleaner, it's seemingly larger, everything is neatly arranged to perfection, the parking lot isn't a free-for-all terror zone, they have more variety and larger selections, the employees are nicer and actually helpful, everyone inside was following CDC guidelines....much nicer location overall. I just got a bag of onions that were were soft in the inside and a little while ago I bought some garlic that felt hard on the outside but they were translucent on the inside! I did take those back and didn't have a problem! I keep coming back because this store and location isn't all bad they do have some good sales and fresh meat! I come to this location only out of convenience /laziness/ when visiting my mom. They have the same stuff as other locations. Fresh fruit and veggies, good selection of meats. Prices are fair. But the customer service is really bad. I mean the cashiers. Had a situation when I had 6 things at the 10 or less checkout lane.There were no other cashiers open. When I got to the register the guy looked at my items and said " there is other registers, you know". Mind you there wasn't any, and I had less than 10 items. I wouldn't write a bad review for a business based on one interaction alone. Unfortunately I came across rude and bad customer service few more times here. They have a big parking lot, which is great, but coming in from the back entrance watch out for the pot holes. Wouldn't recommend. read more

When you call the Belmont location, ask for Nadia. We called her, gave her a count of people as well as budget and her team came through in a big way! As far as I can tell Tony's is the cheapest grocery store in the city. I go there mainly for staples like canned soup, eggs, bread. And deli meat. They charge the same amount for a pound of deli meat that Jewel & Dominick's charges for half a pound. For the same exact brand name and everything. A loaf of foccaciabread for .99 cents. I am not CRAZY about their produce section, but I will grab the basics. I also would steer clear of the sea food section. They have octopus there. I don't care for it. They just recently started carrying organic milk. A whole $1.00 cheaper than Jewel. And probably 1/2 the price of Whole Foods. The one on Elston is nicer, but this one is easier for me to get to. read more

I come to this neighborhood a lot, and I've gone to this grocery store many times. The first few times, I walked around and wasn't that pleased with their food selection. What I'm about to say may make you hate me, so I apologize in advance if you're an obese frequent Tony's shopper. Their food selection is awful. Junk food is everywhere, and I believe every single thing they have is processed and jam-packed with chemicals. I also observed that practically everyone who walks through these doors is fat, obese, or morbidly obese. I don't think I've seen one child there who doesn't look like a mini Rosie O'Donnell. This shouldn't be a surprise, considering they probably buy all of their groceries at Tony's. I still buy stuff there, though. It's because there isn't any other grocery store in the neighborhood, and I buy only gum and water here. Their employees aren't that nice. They don't usually make eye contact with me, and they always appear very sullen. I don't blame them; if I had to be around disgusting processed fatty foods all day, I'd be depressed too. Maybe I'm just too used to eating well. The bottom line is: if you're anything like me, you'll find that Tony's is only good for generic drug store stuff, like chapstick, shampoo, and water. read more

I have mixed feelings about Tony's Finer Foods. I have gotten some awesome things in the past, like fresh tamales, steaks, and anything you could ever need to make a Mexican feast! As for the rest of it, things are hit or miss and in my opinion, a little sketch. Being a person without a car and limited places to shop in Logan Square (now Craigin??) I came here in search of hummus to make a dish with, and I called ahead thinking they might not have it. The manager assured me they did. Well, when I went, the place was a mad house, tons of people everywhere. The checkout lines were horrendous. No one knew anything about the hummus and after searching around for 20 minutes, I gave up. Customer service is definitely lacking here, no one understood what I was talking about and didn't seem to concerned with helping me find it. The biggest problem here is lack of variety - little in the way of organic, and not much ethnic food outside of Mexican stuff. So if your shopping list contains more than just basic essential groceries or you don't make a ton of Mexican food, save yourself the grief and go to Jewel. read more

Apparently I missed the purslane, but a helpful staff person told me when it will come in. Not much help to me since I live nowhere near there, but that they have it at all is wonderful. I've been looking all over for it. Very cheap Bulgarian feta and pitted olives, and horseradish cheddar, and as far as I can tell everything I bought is fresh. Nice staff. No lines at 9 p.m. on a weekday. Rather desolate parking lot, though. The cheddar is delicious. I am too tired to sample the other stuff, but it doesn't seem like something you go wrong with. A little cramped, always busy, and always has that Mexican grocery store smell, but the prices are good -- especially deli and produce prices, which blow Jewel and the like out of the fuckin' water. As an organic gardener myself I know that organic labeling is about 75% bullshit anyway, so the whole organic thing doesn't make any difference to me -- but Tony's does carry a nice selection of local produce when they can, which IS important to me. And for Italian and Mexican specialty products, they're a great place to go. When I have to shop for drugstore stuff as well as food, I'll go to Jewel, but for the weekly load-up on groceries, it's Tony's every time, and my bank account is happier for it. I've shopped at this location only a handful of times and regret it every time. It is by far the most disgusting store I've ever had the misfortune to shop at. I live in the neighborhood and would rather travel further out than shop here. I was just there on Sunday and purchased diced cantaloupe amount other items. The cantaloupe had gone bad. A couple of years ago I purchased chicken nuggets, they had mold. Last year I purchased shredded Chihuahua cheese which also had mold. On another occasion packed meat smelled rancid. Joe the manager is not a people person. He talks to customers like they're idiots. He's not approachable nor is he friendly. I had an incident occur today at the register. The cashier clearly understood the problem and when she called Joe over, he spoke to the cashier like she was dumb and tried doing the same to me. I work in retail and understand when mistakes happen. I'd appreciate a manager admitting when something goes wrong on their end AND FIX THE PROBLEM! I've got mixed feelings about this Tony's location. I will spend a bazillion bucks at their North Riverside, Niles and Melrose Park locations on imported items from all over the globe. You could spend hours in those spacious and well-organized stores; they have EVERYTHING. Yet the Tony's on Belmont is the opposite of its sister locations. Yes it's smaller, but it's not as well-stocked, the variety is lacking, and it's messier inside and out. I recently was out biking one evening and decided to stop at this Tony's since it's nearby. As I was trying to lock up my bike next to the others chained to a shopping cart corral (no rack), some teenager pulled up in an SUV, almost hitting me. He got out and started to tug on the other bikes while I was there. I got back on mine and left. You'd probably find better selection (and safety) at the 6 Corners Jewel or Gene's Sausage shop by Laramie. read more

The humidity today (8/9/10) is ungodly, even with temperature in the upper 70's, I walked six blocks to this Tony's near Belmont and Cicero and was dripping by the time I walked through the door. Immediately I was overpowered by the inside temperature which had to be at least 15 degrees cooler that the temperature outside. I had planned to do a little shopping, but because I (especially my t-shirt) was so damp, I decided to just pick up a loaf of bread. When I got to the express line at the cashier, however, there was some glitch and the line wasn't moving. This seems to be common at this particular Tony's. I waited for about a minute and a half and then, worrying about how the cold air on my damp body could affect my health, I put the bread into a spare cart and headed toward the exit. I stopped at Customer Service first to complain about the excessively cold air conditioning and was told by the very young man in charge that the air conditioning was not on. It was the refrigeration of the frozen foods that made the store so cold. I think he was lying, but if he wasn't, Tony's must be wasting a lot of money to keep their coolers so frigid. I guess that they must be passing this extra cost on to their customers. I don't think that Tony's is concerned about the health of their shoppers. read more

I've experienced some pretty decent and quick shopping experiences at this location as opposed to all the other ones who have a cluster F*** for a parking lot. The shelves are always stocked and I never have a hard time getting what I want. I buy my meat here on occasion when they have a good sale, they can be a lil pricey sometimes, but the quality is good. Cashiers are Ehhh.. I've gotten a lil bit of both but I guess when you work retail no one seems to give a the BEST customer service, cuz some customers can be a hot mess! . 4 stars because you can get fresh produce here for super cheap and it's really some of the best in the neighborhood. Not 5 stars because you usually spend half the time trying to park or trying to check out. It's busy in there, but that's because it's where it's at! They have tons of ethnic foods, yes. But you can also find stuff here cheaper than Jewel (such as Chai drinks, POM POM, and various desserts).
