Excellent dinner at Tony's. We got the Friday specials of cannelloni and manicotti. Richelle add meatballs to her order and I added the calamari in marinara sauce. We love this meal. This was the first calamari I have had just in marinara sauce; this style really brings out the calamari flavor. Richelle said the cannelloni and meatballs were fantastic. Two baskets of garlic bread, and a nice salad. Service was friendly. Dine in area is fairly basic, but it was clean and comfortable. Prices are very reasonable! read more

100th REVIEW And what better way to celebrate this Yelp milestone than at an Italian restaurant? As someone with family from New York and New Jersey, I take Italian food very seriously. I am always suspicious of the authenticity Italian restaurants in the Midwest, especially when some places by me claim that Ragu is their "house recipe." However, I was pleasantly surprised by Tony's in Dayton! As soon as I saw the statue of a chef and plastic grapes in the entryway, I knew Tony's was the real deal. I came with a group of 10, and the waiters were able to accommodate us into one large table in the back of the dining room. The dining room itself is decorated like a charming alleyway in the streets of Rome, with some decorations looking straight out of Nonna's kitchen. We were served drinks right when we sat down, and I noticed on the menu that there was an impressive selection of IPAs and wine. Our waiter was kind enough to bring someone in our party a "sample" of beer when he was deciding between two drinks. Of course, no Italian dinner is complete without garlic bread, and Tony's garlic cheesy bread was a hit with the whole table! I couldn't get enough of it. For dinner, I enjoyed the ravioli, which was served on a plate that was bigger than my head! The sauce was flavorful with a hint of crushed red pepper, and the ravioli themselves were thick and fluffy. I loved every bite! Unfortunately, not everyone liked their dinners as much as I did. My sister said her Alfredo sauce "tasted like nothing," and I saw from across the table that my mother's baked ziti was burnt. One thing I did appreciate about Tony's was the prices. For just $13.50, I got a full plate of ravioli, plus a side salad and garlic bread! I was very impressed with that deal. read more

We have come here a few times since moving nearby a couple years ago. The experience here last week was quite poor. The food was not that good and the service was quite poor. It seemed all our pasta dishes were microwaved just prior to being served, as they were quite hot (hotter than one would expect in restaurants) and the pastas neared a state of mush. There was only one waiter and host working the front of the house. If not for the host helping with service, we certainly would have never gotten drinks or appetizers. All of us found the food and service concerning. We may give them one more try because prior visits were above average and they seem to have a good reputation. But this is something to keep an eye on. They could be cutting costs, thus cutting quality and service. read more

We had an early dinner here. The service was great. My glass was never completely empty. The calamari appetizer was outstanding to be honest. I loved the red sauce it was cooked in. We dipped the bread in it until it was gone. Everyone loved their pasta dishes. The fettuccini Alfredo was great and had a LOT of chicken in it. My stuffed cheese shells were great. We always try new places and this was a great find! I order other lasagna which came with a side salad and garlic bread for 13.95. The lasagna was outstanding!! It was seasoned nicely, well balanced and tasted fresh, NOT microwaved. While the garlic bread was small, they provided lots of it and it was also delicious. If I had to say anything potentially negative, is that the serving size of the lasagna was slightly small for me but that is only a personal preference. read more

On a recommendation, we visited here for a special dinner. We were not disappointed. While the restaurant is kinda small, the food flavors are rather large! My wife was surprised that I was able to find her an authentic Italian restaurant for our 10th Anniversary. The menu had plenty of options to choose from and the food was perfect. Our server, Lisa, was also perfect! She was very knowledgeable about all of the items on the menu as well as being very attentive to our needs and questions during our visit. Of course, the store was very clean and well lit. Looks are deceiving, so give this place a look and look forward to tasting true Italian cuisine! read more

DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE. I ordered the Baked sampler, my girl ordered the chicken Alfredo. She could simply not eat the Alfredo or the chicken because it was so rancid. The chicken tasted like a freezer and the Alfredo sauce was like the cream had spoiled in it. I mean it was terrible, made me gag when I tasted it. When we returned to the restaurant to get a refund or a remake, the manager REFUSED to remake or refund the order. He claimed that it was simply because "we didn't like it" and said he had made them all day with no complaints. I'm telling you guys, Fazoli's with a 2.8 star rating has 10x better pasta than this place! It bewilders me that this place is still so highly reviewed. 1st time visit for me and the last time for us. 10 days in advance a request was made to have a table ready with table cloth, a bottle of red, and a candle. Although they don't take reservations we were assured by the owner that the simple request would be made for a Thursday evening at a table in the back. BIG FAIL. The hostess was clueless and no one working that shift knew about the request. So we sit down at a table and order a prosecco. "I'm sorry we don't have that". Really? A standard menu item in print that they don't have in stock? So we order a bottle of chianti and get a few salads. One salad came with the house dressing and the other with balsamic vinaigrette. It should be named Salty Vinaigrette and it made the salad an item that was left unfinished. Now the Chicken Marsala was good, that i will give you but the entree of Combination Platter was not good. It comes with Lasagna, Stuffed Shells, Baked Ziti, and Cannelloni. I was not impressed with any of those items and the Cannelloni had a mystery meat in it. We found out by asking that it was a combo of veal, beef, and sausage. That was not appetizing at all. I hate giving places low ratings but in this case it was warranted. I found a new joint called Jimmy's Italian Kitchen and lunch was fantastic on the corner of Woodman Drive and Dorothy Lane. Also, you can never go wrong with Mamma DiSalvo's on Stroop Road in Kettering. So those 2 places I highly recommend. Ciao! read more

Food smelled weird. Ceiling of the restaurant looked like it was from an 80's basement. The bill didn't match prices on the menu, was waaaaay over, and they were annoyed when we pointed out the price discrepancies. Tony's has been a part of our dinner experience for many years. It's one of the best places to treat yourself to some authentic Italian cuisine. Don't expect a large dining facility, Tony's restaurant is similar to east coast pizza parlors except unfortunately, they don't make pizza. ( I suspect there are many reasons, the most obvious is that the convenience of delivery, and the Midwest taste for chain pizza, probably makes it a difficult investment in material, labor and machinery.) Since they are from the East Coast, I have no doubt they could whip up a heck of a pie if they wanted to. Anyway you need to check them out. I love the Shrimp marinara. (Get it with Angel Hair pasta, it's magnificent.) oh and not sure where they find their crew but Tony's has some of the nicest staff in the area.
