This place is decent for breakfast. I decided to order some lunch recently and was disappointed. The steak and cheese sub barely had any meat--it felt more like I was eating just bread. There was also almost no mushrooms, green peppers, or onions, which were listed as part of the sandwich. I also ordered a side of fries, and I received only about 10 pieces for $4. Sometimes I think reviewing places like Tony's is a waste of time and energy, but what the hell? So I placed and order for chicken cheese steak, fries, spicy half smoke, bacon and cheese sandwich. Chicken cheese steak was dry and tasted old. Half smoke was actually a Johnsonville spicy smoke sausage. That's just wrong and rude. I realize half smokes are a DC thing and as a Native, I know a half smoke. That was not a half smoke. I requested cheese, onion and mustard. It came with ketchup, mustard, relish and onions. And it was a lot of all of it. YUK. The fries were dark, over cooked and dry. No one wanted them. I called the restaurant. The manager was pleasant and actually read my order back to me and said yes it was wrong and apologized for the dry nasty chicken cheese steak. I think places like this have existed so long and have been successful that they have lost the art of taking pride in presenting and preparing food. Oh let me not forget the request for a side of cole slaw only to get potato salad. The manager said since they have 3 locations the online ordering menu is not updated for each restaurant. WTH!?!?! First of all if yall cared, it would be updated. Secondly, you have the option to call me and let me decide what I want. Don't just send me what you think is a good substitute. I'm sure my review won't make that much of a difference, but maybe Tony and 'nem will work on the things that customers have complained about in their reviews. Ordered on door dash, food was over priced for just heating up corned beef hash, and 3 dollars for a single pupusa without salsa or the regular slaw (repollo)? it tasted better than the corned beef. The Mac and cheese. oh. my. god. FUCKING DISGUSTING. Full disclosure I ordered this off of Postmates. I absolutely love this place! It is a mom and pop, hole in the wall type of place but it serves good quality food. I can't speak about service or decor but I can tell you that the food is great! I am partial to their breakfast platter, mostly because it is cheap and they give you a ton of food! I could eat half and have leftovers for later. They also had turkey bacon and sausage alternatives which was really helpful for me. I've also had their turkey burger (which is also cheap) that comes with fries and a drink. It pretty good. Nothing fancy just a regular burger, but with turkey burger you always wonder whether or not they will be dry but his one was juicy. The only thing that I did not like was the Navy bean soup. It was a little bland, I had to add my own salt. Also this might be a pet peeve for some but was I had a piece of chicken skin in my soup. But overall the experience was great! Excellent neighborhood staple. Classic, simple and delicious diner food. The hungryman's platter (comes with pancakes but can get it with French toast) is double the amount of food for a third of what you'd pay at neighborhood breakfast places in Petworth and Columbia Heights. The club sandwiches are good as well. Don't come expecting anything new. It's really more a place to go when you know what you want and want it done well. I recommend ordering it for pickup in advance if you're going for breakfast because there's not a lot of seating and it can get very busy. read more

Rico is always keeping things moving on the register and the short order chefs are on point, but what makes this place unique and necessary is that the sole proprietor, a Hispanic woman (whose name I've yet to find out but will) runs it tight and right! I've yet to see a botched order forreal forreal. Hell, their completion percentage from the field is higher than the Skins real live. She brings that tiny diner to life and half the time she's on the grill and I appreciate that most about Tony's. The food is ALWAYS fresh and I love the atmosphere. Worst customer service experience ever! Do yourself a favor and go to the other Tony's across the street instead. Cashier tried to overcharge me for wings. To be spiteful about me asking to wait for fresh cooked wings and disagreeing with how I was being overcharged, the cook under cooked my wings and then purposely didn't season them, not one drop of salt or pepper. She also mixed fresh cooked wings with the old ones sitting in the heater. I ordered 4 wings and potatoes. When I asked for two more wings the cashier quoted me $16 from a $9 order for just adding two additional wings when the menu on the wall listed extra wings are $1.25. Then the cashier tells me "No, each wings is $1.75. The menu on the wall is wrong." Even then it would not have added up to $16. Honestly, I was just giving Tony's Place a try to see how it compared to Ton'y Breakfast across the street which has way more transparent pricing, better quality food and much friendlier staff. I'd stopped going to Tony's for several weeks because them not only consistently getting my order incorrect, but even more egregious having me on hold on the phone for 20 minutes and never returning, and then closing at 2:30PM even though the manager confirmed in front of me that they close at 3PM. Today, they'd closed the doors just after 2PM even though I'd placed my order around 1:45PM. When I'd asked the kid who was working there why they keep changing their hours, he said that they always close at 3PM. I'd asked if it was 3PM, he said yes it was even though it was about 2:15PM. Food here is great and even though it seems like its a dangerous neighborhood (because of the men standing outside and this place is right next to a liquor store) its pretty safe and no one bothers me. The service is great and the cashier/order takers are friendly. Food gets to you fast and the location is a few buildings away from where I work. The only reason you would know about this restaurant if you walked by it would be because of the sign outside. There are no tables inside but only a counter with round stool seats you can sit on. You order and pay first then eat. I ordered the "Hungryman Platter" which consisted of two scrambled eggs, two pieces of bacon, a sausage patty, and two buttermilk pancakes for about $6 or $7! 2nd day in DC I woke up REEEALY early by mistake. So I figured I'd drive around and see if I could get me and the gf some good to go breakfast. I searched around and saw that this place had super high ratings. I walked in to what appeared to be one of the smallest diners I've ever seen in my life. Seats only about 6/8. The service here is absolutely quick, and I ordered quite a bit of food. The quality of the food still is there, even though they do it fast, which is amazing. Ordered the chicken and waffles, a egg sandwich, steak and cheese sandwich, and a breakfast platter. This place seriously had the best waffle/pancake batter that I've ever tried. It didn't taste like your regular pancake/waffle. It was super fluffy and sweet, and tasted amazing. Chicken was also fried perfectly and had a nice skin. Giving this place a solid A+! read more

We always get breakfast here. You can't beat the prices! You get a ton of food. And, the workers are always friendly. I am happy to support this business. It was the first place I tried when I moved into the neighborhood. I didnt intend to try it, but there was so many people outside waiting, I got curious. I'm so glad I did. When I have guests come in from out of town, I always get Tony's breakfast and they are always impressed. This place is great! Crowded on weekend mornings so be patient. You can get a hungry man platter for $8 (2 pancakes, 2 eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage) you cannot beat that in DC. My only regret is that they do not have a seating area with tables, they only have a high top table with stools but I think they are working on that. Bottom line, if you need a quick cheap and generous breakfast, go there ! read more
