The first week after moving nearby, I remember biking by seeing a huge group of people hanging in front of S&G, so I knew I'd have to drop by. They ran out of chicken wings tonight, so my friend and I got the whiting platter with potato salad and mac and cheese. Added a half lb of fried shrimp to round out the order. Everything was made fresh and smelled delicious. They had some dry spices to add on top of your fried stuff (i.e. lemon pepper, etc), but we just went w their packaged sauces of ketchup, hot sauce, and tartar sauce. Noooo regrets! Everything was delicious, and I surprised I enjoyed the mac n cheese and potato salad. I typically find both of those sides are bland when I buy them outside, but these were flavorful and tasty. The fried were de-shelled and split for frying--they weren't small either. Workers were kind and helpful. I'll def return to try the chicken and get fried seafood again. Also, black-owned business! They can get it

This small yet big family business is just right and serves up great food! They are a staple to Washington, DC and a landmark of great proportions. This is my go to spot for good wings, fries, and everything else. This place is a treasure in the heart of DC.

Fried fish, wings, and fries (platter $13.00). Sides were $3.00 extra)

Arrived in Washington and wasn't sure what I wanted for dinner, so I went to my trusty friend, Yelp for some assistance. I found S&G Seafood House, which had a 4.25 star rating. I figured this place had to be pretty good. I placed my takeout order via Ubereats. I ordered the fish and wing platter that came with fries even though I didn't want any fries (cost 13.00) . I added mac n cheese for $3.00 and string beans for $3.00. I eagerly awaited the arrival of my evening meal. Everything arrived timely and was still warm to the touch. The restaurant even added hot sauce, tarter sauce and utensils as requested. I cracked open the large container and found two very large pieces of fish, two wings, and an abundance of french fries. The two smaller containers contained my sides. The mac n cheese was not good. The contents tasted like buttered elbow noodles with melted cheese. I felt like the mac n cheese might have been made on a stove top and not baked in an oven. It was just not good at all. I moved on to the string beans. I was scared to try them bc I noticed the absence of smoked meat, which is usually an indicator of fresh string beans as opposed to canned string beans. Welp, the string beans were definitely canned beans with some added flavor. Didn't think I would say this, but the string beans were the highlight of my meal. I moved on to the fish and wings. Let's just say I needed the hot sauce for every bit of fish and chicken. Without the hot sauce both items lacked any kind of flavor. I expected A LOT MORE from a place named S&G Seafood House. I hate to be the first 3 star review, but in comparison to the many soul food places I have dined at (in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, New York, Georgia and Louisiana) S&G fell way short. I won't be a return customer.

If it wasn't for the YELP reviews, I'd never found nor considered this place. I was in search of some seafood in NE WDC so I GPS'd my way to SGs. They don't have any parking, since they are located on the corner of a hill so I parked in the neighborhood. I walked in to well kept establishment where I was greeted and ordered my food. 10 mins later my whiting (fish), hush puppies and collard greens were ready. Everything was good and fresh. And I was pleasantly surprised by the hush puppies, because most places can't get them right; these were delicious. I'd recommend anyone in the area to check them out and you will not be disappointed.

No printed menus but they promised there coming soon!

This little hidden pleasure was one I past a couple hundred times and finally I decided to stop in and try it after reading a few reviews. The shrimp, fish and fries were hot and fresh. The service was quick but I called in my order while I was trying to find a parking spot. This is the most difficult thing here and I would advise not going when school has let out for the day! It's an extremely busy intersection and this makes it a bit more hectic. All in all call it in and your in and out quickly. It's worth the stop but next time I'll opt for all shrimp or the shrimp and chicken box.

Every dish we ordered was well prepared and full of flavor. The Stone Crab was the highlight of the meal--fresh, sweet, and perfectly chilled with a delicious mustard dipping sauce. The Steak Béarnaise was cooked exactly as requested, tender and juicy, and the rich béarnaise sauce complemented it perfectly. The Crab Bisque was creamy, comforting, and packed with real crab flavor without being overly heavy. We also loved the Grilled Seafood Platter, which featured a great variety of seafood that was fresh, perfectly grilled, and seasoned just right. We were seated immediately and the dining room is adequate. Sufficiently decorated to make it okay. It is furnished for maximum occupancy which is fine. Think casual place, almost bar with food, not fancy at all. I do not mean for this to be a negative comment. Hank's presents itself as more of a beachside joint, not a high end seafood restaurant. Each of these sorts of restaurants has a place in the spectrum. Our waiter - Keith or Kevin - I'm so sorry but I cannot remember his name - was GREAT! Funny, good at his job, great personality and helpful. He started out with a corny, but cute, joke and he kept getting better all night. The manager too was quite good, professional and friendly. What a great staff! The food is good. I could talk about the lobster bisque (a bit on the strong side) or the flounder (a bit on the salty side). But, honestly, the food was good and I enjoyed it a lot. I did not complain about any of it nor do I think a complaint was necessary. So, as I said before, it had been years since I had last eaten at Hank's. But it won't be that long anymore. I recommend Hank's for a casual seafood meal.

The standout for me was the salmon slider-- the sauce was so good I wish I ordered more. Great vibe for a casual happy hour. I'd definitely come back, especially for the $1 oysters.

It's a lovely thing to wander through before heading in to eat just a few feet away. The setting itself doesn't feel like Washington at all. With the charming little patio and relaxed vibe, you could imagine you're in another country, and it strikes a wonderful balance between easygoing and sophisticated. Little touches go a long way for me, and they nailed them here: silverware with the lovely illusion of polished silver and elevated stemware that added an extra bit of vibe to the whole experience. The staff were wonderfully accommodating from the start: everything was still soaked from the heavy rain the night before, but they went out of their way to set us up in a lovely shaded spot so we'd stay cool and comfortable. That same care showed up in a much bigger way later, when one of our party passed out from a health issue unrelated to the meal, and the team handled it with calm, attentiveness, and real heart. Now, the food. The brunch menu hits all the classics, chicken and waffles, eggs Benedict with fun variations featuring crab and smoked fish, all the good stuff. I settled on the lobster roll, which was incredibly good, served with Old Bay fries that came out perfectly hot and crisp, exactly the way fries should always arrive, with ketchup on the side. We also tried the tuna tartare and the buffalo oysters, which were a blast: fried oysters with a blue cheese dressing and hot sauce, served in the cutest presentation in shells on smooth lake pebbles. On the drinks side, I had a "Bloody Margaret," a gin-based riff on a Bloody Mary, and it was wonderfully spicy, just the way I like it. The cocktail list overall is playful and worth exploring. Oysters are clearly one of their fortes. They focus on Virginia oysters, so it's a single variety, but they do a lot with it across a range of preparations. There's also a fun Virginia peanut-centric theme running through the menu.

It is pricey, lucky for me it was my birthday and I could simply enjoy myself. My cocktail was exquisite, forgot what it was called but reminded me of a pina colada, but not as thick. The flavor and the freshness of the Whole fried fish, with fragrant herbs, tamarind and lime dressing was good. The Parker House Rolls were fluffy, but nothing I would put on the highly recommended list. Our waiter was very kind and personable. Other than that, I'm not sure if I would come back. Most people enjoy Caribbean style restaurants that master various fish for a fraction of the price and more food. While the "more food part" may be considered low- brow, I'm sure I am saying what many are thinking.
