Was once fond of this place but the service has slipped. I don't understand how it takes 25 minutes to get a breakfast sandwich and potatoes yet everything was still undercooked. Toast is soggy, over medium egg was undercooked, and potatoes were mushy! When I asked for some extra veggies on my potatoes for the wait (to combat the obvious mush I was about to be given) I was told "it's already ready, it's coming" and was dismissed for another 4 minutes until my food was brought to me. read more

Murray & Paul's has been in the Brookland 'hood since the early '60s - this Korean-owned breakfast and brunch spot serves up breakfast plates and burgers. We came here for a later breakfast, and we ordered: +the Pancake Special - this came with 2 eggs (went for scrambled) with a choice of meat (opted for the sausage); the pancakes were large and fluffy, with a generous amount of butter +a Good Morning breakfast sandwich - turkey bacon, egg, and provolone on wheat with grape jelly; this was just okay; bread could have been more fresh; provolone wasn't salty enough, and the turkey bacon was side and just okay +and, a side of corned beef hash I wanted to try their steak & cheese, but I guess it was too early! HA! The place is small, but had a good number of booths/tables. We were told we could choose a table, and our friendly server quickly took our orders. A no frills, hole in the wall breakfast spot with about 10 booths and a few bar seats. When I went you couldn't sit at all the bar seats because the counter was full with other business materials. The prices are low, the place itself is a bit rundown but it does feel like quite the neighborhood spot. The potatoes were amazing, the eggs were a little runnier then I personally like them and when they ask if you want big or little sausage patties, the bigger ones looked yummier. As we sat, at the 30 minute mark, there were two parties with four white people. Surprisingly, they got served before us. When we brought it to the attn of the staff, they were dismissive. There were two men who had gotten there before us and still hadn't been served. And they weren't in a party of four. We ordered pancakes, bacon and eggs which I'll admit, does take longer than sandwiches (which one of the table ordered). But one of the table's ordered pancakes etc and only had to wait a short amount of time. It's sad that even in a Black neighborhood, owned by POC, white customers are still prioritized. This is a great local breakfast spot. Right next to the university and right next to a beautiful large neighborhood so it's a lot of families and students here. They've maintained the pricing as totally fair for these people so they are pretty packed. Massive portions for the price you're paying and it's just good classic diner style food. Amazing local restaurant that clearly knows what it's doing (serving customers in the area since 1964). The team was fantastic- providing us with great recommendations, quickly taking orders, and even entertaining our daughter with some extra chocolate chips. Prices and portions could not be beat! Definitely on the skimpier side as they skip creature comforts you get most other places, namely a printed/online menu and the option of paying with a card. Easily five stars if they included these items. Made-to-order basic flat top breakfasts that are delicious. The portions are very generous and I appreciated I could customize the cheese in my omelet as well as how I wanted my home fries done. Happy that this place exists and is so close by.
