From their tried and tested deviled eggs to their classic but with a twist Gochujang Tator Tots to their hearty Shrimp'N'Grits; the menu always has something that is sure to please each and every person in your company. My family and I enjoyed all of the dishes and we found that our selection of items was quite perfect for a group of three looking for a balance of savory and sweet. What we tried: The French Toast is crusted with cornflakes, making every bite a treat for the senses. I daresay that french toast should never be served in any other way. The crunch from the cornflakes elevates an otherwise humble dish and highlights the ingenuity of Southern cuisine: simple ingredients that when brought together deliver high impact results. The Shrimp'N'Grits was a delight. We have a dish similar to this which I insist the team at Succotash must try. It's called Kichuri; similar but different. This is perfect for those who prefer a savory breakfast packed with umami and flavor in every bite. Mr. Roger would definitely approve of this one. Potatoes are a universal favorite and thus Tator Tots were a must order for us. We didn't have any children with us but fried potatoes always satiates even the most picky of eaters. We did appreciate the integration of a gochugang aoili and pickled jalapeños. This elevated the dish enough to where it could be enjoyed by both adults and children. The Deviled Eggs are a no-brainer unless you are someone who hates perfection. They are the creamy dreamy accouterment to elevating one's daily protein intake and perfect wholesome addition to any breakfast or brunch. Not mentioned: I have had the Chicken & Waffles at Succotash and I still dream about it to this day. We did not have it in this visit because we decided to opt for more shareable items but the Chicken & Waffles is highly recommended. It's a complete meal: both savory and sweet. Probably the best post hangover meal.

Man what can I say?…read more They really came through for me with a great meal! I ordered the turkey wings with collards and cabbage via UberEats because it was crazy hot outside. The food came really fast. It was hot! It was flavorful. Great portions too! For a decent price too! It was outstanding! I'd order from them again. If the weather stays like this it may be sooner!

The crunch was just how I like them and it was the perfect amount of sauce on the wings. The mumbo sauce was really good as well, because as we all know...everybody do not have good mumbo sauce lol -Whipped yams was A-mazing because this is how I like to eat my yams. They were not too sweet to me and I don't really eat sweets anymore, so I was expecting them to possibly be overly sweet for my palate but they were perfect. -Collard Greens were great as well. Really good flavor. They do have a small kick to them though, but it's manageable and I ate them all. I really don't like spicy foods so on the spice level I give it a 1/5 which is a good thing. If you do like a kick to your greens then you will love them, but if you do not like spicy at all I'd say skip it. Service: 5/5 I had my food delivered and everyone's order was correct when it arrive and was neatly packaged

This place serves all your traditional soul food. They got beans, greens, potatoes, tomatoes,…read morelambs, rams, hogs, dogs, chicken, turkeys, rabbits, you name it. Well, they don't have rabbits, rams, or lambs, but you get the picture. This is a little carryout restaurant just outside the downtown area. There is metered street parking on the road out front and within a reasonable walking distance. They do not have a dining area. This is a carryout-only place. I was on a tight schedule, so I ordered online ahead of time. I scheduled my order for pickup at 5. They have music playing on a little speaker, and the woman working there was friendly. I ordered the beef ribs with a side of mac and cheese and collard greens. I got an additional side of cornbread stuffing. I arrived at 5, and my food was not ready. It was not even prepared until I got there. I did not get out of there until about 520, mind you; I had pre-scheduled a 5 PM pickup. The food traveled well and was delicious. I loved every item. They were all so flavorful. It was also a ton of food. The stuffing was really good. The ribs were amazing, and the collard greens were just like Mom used to make. And the mac and cheese was fire. I really enjoyed my meal here. I highly recommend checking this place out and look forward to going back there real soon. They have some of the best soul food that I have ever had. It would have easily been a 5-star joint if my order had been ready at the scheduled time.

After walking in (take-out only), and seeing that there were six people waiting for their food, I was convinced, this place CAN be trusted. So, staff, really nice. Informative, hospitable, and accommodating. As indicated, exclusively "Take-out," so not much attention given to aesthetics. All those waiting raved about the food. People there have been patronizing the restaurant for decades. Again, very good sign. Ordered chitterlings, potato salad, and collard greens. Initially thought $30.00 was a bit much, given I'd NEVER eaten chitterlings "out," BUT, thought about what it actually requires, and quickly changed my mind. The price point is fine. Everything was delicious. Everything. Including the Cornbread. Given I know how to cook, there were obviously some things I would have done differently. That doesn't even matter, this place is my "Soul Food" "go-to." If they can do chitterlings well, they can do anything. I can't wait to try everything else on the menu. I highly recommend.

The Hamilton - Live…read more Being a fan of both the Grateful Dead and Steely Dan, I paid $40 for general seated admission to see Steeley Dead, performing at The Hamilton - Live. The music venue is located below the Hamilton, a storied dining experience in the 600 block of 14th Street in D.C. Doors would open at 6:30 p.m. for a performance that would begin, right on time, at 8 p.m. I travel alone, and prefer not to join tables, opting instead to sit where single seats are available. The Hamilton - Live offers both: most of the seating is in groups of 4- or 6-seat benches where groups gather, and there are rows of single seats on a slight rise above the forward seating, offering a great view of the stage and the screens above the stage. I arrived around 7 p.m. Within minutes Marie greeted me with a menu and instructions to post a card on a holder at my place, signaling her to stop by to take my order. The menu was eclectic, with sushi, pizza, tacos, salads, wings, cheeseburger sliders, and nachos. There are robust vegetarian and gluten-free selections, and a fully licensed bar. I placed the card in the holder at my seat and Marie returned to take my order: sushi - shrimp tempura ($14), with a can of Nutrl Pineapple ($8) and a double G&T ($23.18). The crowd was gathering, and the attending wait staff were moving with speed, filling orders. My meal arrived in great shape about 15 minutes after I placed the order. Nicely executed sushi! Sound quality in the venue is great, and the restroom was clean and well lit. And as the catalogues of both the Dead and Steely Dan inspire dancing, the dance floor was filled right from the start. The band's vibe was low key and spontaneous, with lots of smiling on the dance floor. Total with a 22% tip was $79 (which included a white Russian nightcap). Reasonable fare for the DMV. Taxi, Uber, and Lyft are readily available from the venue.

The time I came in was when they were getting ready for dinner so I promptly sat at the bar. The menu for the Hamilton is extensive and I was presently surprised at all the options I had. I loved that the sushi was half off and vowed to come back to try it. For this visit, I had the pork chop and the crab fried rice. For an appetizer, I had the crab soup. Everything was delicious and came out promptly. The flavoring of the food was amazing and I had leftovers to take home. I will definitely be back!

We come here all the time for the bread pudding but this time we brought a group. Always pleasant and lively, Puddin reminds me of southern hospitality at its finest. The bread pudding is served warm and rich with chunks of bread and browned butter and bourbon flavors throughout. Add the creamy homemade vanilla pudding on top and we never leave without it. We also got to sample a new alcoholic beverage that was heavenly. Cannot remember the name but if you go to the front counter they will give you a sample of the mixer. Trust me, you will want to order it. The gumbo was a crowd favorite. One sample and the flavor made you want to double back. Kitchen + Kocktails: Oh, How the Mighty Have Fallen…read more.. This was the 3rd stop on the For the Culture DMV Food Tour, and THIS is where the food experience officially started going DOWNHILL!!! I was actually excited about Kitchen + Kocktails because this was my second visit, and my first experience was AMAZING. Great food, beautiful atmosphere, the whole experience. So imagine my disappointment when we were escorted to a dark basement and served...a poorly made caesar salad and what I'm calling FAKE GUMBO. I'm sorry, but I was INSULTED. Kitchen + Kocktails, y'all know good and well this was not it! Of all the dishes that could have represented this restaurant on a DMV food tour, THIS was the choice?! The food was nasty, and unfortunately, I finally understood some of those not-so-great things I've been hearing about K+K on social media. What makes it worse is that I KNOW they can do better because I've experienced better myself. My first visit set the bar, and this experience wasn't even in the same building with that bar. Well...technically, we were in the building; we were just downstairs in the basement. The flower walls and beautiful hallways remain the highlights. The restaurant definitely has some gorgeous photo-op areas, but pretty décor couldn't save that meal. And AGAIN: How are these restaurants accommodating guests with ADA/accessibility needs?! SERIOUSLY? The stairs and accessibility concerns became a recurring theme throughout this tour. Thankfully, my first visit showed me a completely different side of Kitchen + Kocktails, so I know this experience isn't necessarily all they have to offer. But as a stop on the For the Culture DMV Food Tour? This was a MAJOR disappointment and definitely not the K+K experience I remembered.
