My cat has been vomiting since yesterday so I brought her in and I wasn't received well. The front desk lady was very rude once she found out I didn't have an appointment. I didn't know it was a crime to walk in and pay for a service. Anyway they got me in and after a long wait a got to see the vet, Joe Roundy. First impressions weren't great, as he asked me how many times my cat had thrown up, and when I told him multiple times throughout the day, he scoffed at me and said that wasn't helpful. He needed a number. This in and of itself is fine if he wanted me to give him an exact number, but the way he went about it made me feel stupid. It wouldn't have been hard to just ask me to be more specific. The customer service throughout was very lacking, but that is not my real issue. The vet asked me to do 2 x-rays and quoted me 250 dollars. I was reluctant but said that would be fine. In the end he ended up doing 3 x-rays without asking me, but ended up finding out about an inflamed esophagus, which he said can happen on its own and isn't a major issue. This ended up not being the problem anyway. In the end it was determined to just be a stomach bug. Nothing serious. They charged me $607.39 in total. Here is the breakdown: Exam, Regular $64 2 Xrays $250 1 Xray $125 Barium $15 Clomipramine 25 $40 Injections I.M. $26 Walk-in Fee $45 Cerenia 24 mg tabs $22 Metronidazole 250 mg $15 Taxes $5.39 Total $607.39 Fucking bastards. All this for a stomach bug. I ask the question, Why the hell didn't we start with that? I know I said yes to the x-rays, but I didn't really know anything about it and I thought they were the experts. He made it seem like it was very important that we do x-rays. I realize that was a mistake. I also didn't agree to them doing 3 of them and all of these other medications. They also made no mention of a walk in fee. On top of it all I had to sign a paper saying I would pay for everything the vet prescribed before I had even seen him. Anyway this was an awful experience with terrible communication and very poor customer service. I will not be taking my animal back here and I advise you find another vet. Or hell, just use AI at this point. Remember this is just a business and they only want your money. To hell with your animals or giving a shit about delivering fair service for fair pay. read more

Took my 16 year old cat into their clinic to be euthanized. All was going well until Dr. Roundy came into the room. I acknowledge that my cat looked pathetic; skinny and very dull and patchy coat. He then asked why we hadn't gotten her groomed (I had given her a bath two days earlier), then proceeded to say that we should have just shaved her entirely. Due to her long ongoing battle with skin allergies, that would have left her with no coat because it wouldn't grow back. Dr. Roundy showed no compassion for either our cat nor us. No "I'm sorry for your loss" or any comforting words. Just injected her, listened for any heartbeat, then left the room. Shame on him for making us feel worse! Should be no stars! read more

This was the most traumatizing experience I've ever had with a vet. After the surgery, they told me the spay would only be $230--but then the doctor called and, based on a passing comment I made, decided I "had more money" and raised the price. When I got home, my dog was crying in pain. They had not given her an antibiotic or pain meds, and later told my husband to give her aspirin--which another vet told me was dangerous. They reversed my credit card payment and refused to accept it, forcing me to pay out-of-pocket in cash. I had to call the police just to resolve the bill. I also had to take my dog to another vet the same day to get her the proper care she should have received in the first place. read more

And on the 3rd time, a very rude Lady answered and I told her I thought I was gonna be hung up on again and chuckled, trying to make light of the rudeness. Joe treats animals poorly, doesn't leave water in the kennel, which it's over 80 degrees outside, leaves a whole bunch of blood on my dog, leaves an IV in him, uses staples instead of stitching him back up and no after care instructions. Once again thanks to Tooele Veterinary Clinic, Joe Roundy for getting us in today. Our little Thunder threw up a couple of times last evening and then wouldn't eat his treats last night before bed. He did eat a piece of lunch meat and some cheese, but then at about 10.30 he threw up twice again and had dry heaves for about 1/2 hour steady. This morning he was very lethargic. After what happened to our little boy Elvis a month ago we were scared to death. I called Tooele Vet Clinic at 8.30 am when they opened and they got us in at 11.15 am. After a thorough check up and running more blood work nothing negative just maybe the stomach flu. He gave us an antibiotic and some nausea medicine. Thunder seems to be doing better already. I took my pup in for a routine checkup after moving to the area from Wyoming as we needed a new primary veterinary clinic. It was such a horrible experience that I cried on the way home. The front office admin is rude, and just stared at me when we walked in so I had to greet her. I asked her twice if she wanted me to email our prior vet records to keep on file and she didn't respond. Very outdated systems in place (wall of filing cabinets, never asked for an email, no text appt reminders, paper intake form). She, herself, is quite outdated and should consider retirement to allow someone compassionate about animals to step into the role. The veterinary technicians are indeed as rude as other reviews had pointed out and never once said hi to us. The vet man-handled my little dog without showing an ounce of compassion for animals and for the first time in my pup's life he tried to bite the doctor because of the discomfort he was put through while receiving a couple of routine vaccines. We did not receive the treatment, care, or compassion we are used to from our two prior veterinary clinics so it makes sense this was the only clinic able to fit us in within a certain timeframe and the others in the area are booked months out. My poor guy didn't eat and was anxious the remainder of the day. I also called a veterinary friend who used to treat my pets and he verified the care we received, including options offered by the Dr. to treat a cyst, were incredibly outdated and surprising to say the least. (this is my first time writing a review because I feel so strongly about this clinic - their style is NOT how things should be done and you CAN find better in the area. I would give 0 starts if I could. We recently had to put my dog down because she had a cancerous tumor. The vet had no compassion and kept grabbing my tiny little chihuahua aggressively during her last moments. She went out of this world scared. The vet pushed our hands away when we tried to pet her to comfort her. Instead of feeling at peace because she's no longer in pain, I just feel so heartbroken that what was supposed to be a painless death was instead really terrifying for her. The staff is so freaking amazing! I wasn't even a client until last Friday. I've lived in Tooele for 5 years now and haven't gotten around to getting a local VET. I called my VET in Riverton asking to get my pup in ASAP...because I thought he had a CAT TAIL in his ear canal! They tried to schedule me an appointment in SEPTEMBER! I called Tooele Vet Clinic and I told them the problem and they told me: "COME IN NOW, we will fit you in"! Good thing too...my poor pup had CAT TAILS in both ears!! The beginning of December, we had a ladder accident in our home and it broke our Pugs femur. I felt relieved finding an emergency vet so close to home but I wish I had read the *honest* reviews on Google. Joe Roundy's demeanor was aggressive but I tried ignoring it bc it was a Sunday. He gave Snoop a sedative before starting the exam but less than 3 minutes later, handled him like a rag doll. At one point my dogs broken leg was outwardly bent in half and I pointed it out and "Dr." Roundy said "OOP no that's not good for it, thanks!" While then roughly flinging Snoopy on his side. He then pulled an old looking textbook out to show me the "proper way" to do the surgery and noted a pin would be left sticking out of my dogs body. He said if the break was clean, the pin was the way to go. If not, it would need a plate and that would be $5k-$6k but wanted to do X-RAYS before giving an official quote. He showed me an X-RAY saying it was a clean break. I'm not a vet, it's Sunday and I'm scared. So I say "If that is the best option for him, then we will trust your judgement." I never implied I was concerned about money because I never asked how much it would cost. I made it very clear I wanted nothing but what was medically best for my dog. Snoopy had to stay the night at the vets and I was told I'd be called the next morning when Snoopy was taken back for surgery. I wasn't. I called around 1 pm Monday December 4th asking how he was doing. The receptionist who answered said "Uh yeah I think he's good." I said "Okay can you go check? As well as find out a pickup time for him?" Without another word, she put me on hold and came back on a minute later saying "The dog is fine, you can come at 5" and hung up. When we went to go pick Snoopy up, we were in the building in front of 2 laughing receptionists for over a minute. I finally announced that I'd like to take my dog home and without even looking up one of them replied "name?" It is the most unprofessional environment I have ever been in. They brought him out barely walking and being tugged on with a rope leash. I immediately picked him up and handed the leash back. Joe Roundy was nowhere to be seen as a vet tech invited me to come back and look at the post-op X-Rays. It didn't look aligned and I asked about a piece of bone fragment off to the side to which she replied "Oh that will dissolve." I gave her a weird look but honestly wanted out of that place. We paid for the surgery and they gave us a paper with no instructions and little paper envelopes containing his prescription pills. Google a little bit and that part might interesting to you. I called my vet the next day as they were closed by the time I could pick Snoopy up and expressed my concern over the surgery. She agreed that the pin would likely not provide enough support in the long run so we scheduled for him to be seen by them 12/6/23. Later that night when I went to give Snoopy his pills, I noticed there wasn't anything on the envelope or paper telling me how much and when to administer the pills. I called and spoke to a very angry woman insisting I wasn't "opening my eyes" and that they always write it on the envelope. I explained that Snoop was an emergency and I understood that some things get missed. She scoffed and slammed the phone down and a minute later Dr. Roundy was on the phone asking what the issue was. I remained calm and repeated myself and his response wasn't any different than the woman before. I finally said "I just need to know how much and when to give him these pills and you'll never hear from me again because we are having your surgery fixed." Joe Roundy said my vet was just trying to steal my money and swore at me before graciously offering up the pill instructions. I informed him we'd like a partial refund of just the $2,000 for the surgery fee and he laughed before hanging up on me. The worst Vet clinic in the state! They are incredibly rude and WILL inconvenience you! I had my dog neutered here and it was a huge mistake, they didn't give him any medication and just completely shut me down when i asked them for help. The old hag at the front desk is a complete Witch and has an excuse for everything and has a major attitude! Dr. Roundy is a rude and disrespectful towards the animals. This is by far the worst experience i've had with a business! Not only that but his stitches where his incisions are look HORRENDOUS! Took our 10yr old beautiful calico Manx cat in for possible swelling by the neck and shoulder, arthritis and possible earache- vet was extremely rough with her- when advising of concerns- comments back were hostile & unprofessional- was extremely condescending and rude- vet assistant rude- made rude remark when bringing our baby girl back in the room " here is your very big kitty" she said. Joe Roundy is the rudest, most unprofessional person I have ever met, He abused my dog then refused to help after I was told to come get medication due to his inability to properly trim a dog's toe nails. He is currently being investigated by DOPL and has already been reprimanded by them in the past for killing animals because he did not know what he was doing. He is really easy to get into and cheap for a reason... I urge you to do some research before trusting him with any of your animals if you consider them part of the family like I do. Our 11 month old kitten hasn't been able to jump and has hardly been able to walk for the past week. After calling for two days straight, I finally got someone on the phone. The gal had asked if we could come in within the next half hour which I appreciated as it felt like my girl's condition had been getting worse by the day. When we saw Roundy he was roughly handling my girl. She was already in distress as she can no longer perform the activities that she once was able to and is likely in pain at only 11 months old. She's typically pretty shy but never aggressive towards vets. Everything I had mentioned that I thought could be wrong with her, he immediately had a condescending and snarky remark to shoot back at me. He was being so rough with her that she bit him while getting x-rayed and he yelled at her calling her a "little bastard." He then flung her onto the table in our room, she can't use her back legs so she fell off and landed on the floor on her side. He ignored me when I asked for a wet paper towel to wipe her off so we sat there for 10 mins with HIS blood all over her. He commented to the vet assistants that normally people apologize when their animals bite him. To which I retorted that, I am not sorry. We found that she has hip dysplasia in one hip but we do not know which one as he forgot to mark it when performing the x-ray and used the excuse that he forgot because she bit him. I'm not sure what else he would expect with the way he handles animals and his very unsympathetic attitude. Within the first few minutes of meeting him I knew that this was not going to go well. His disposition and rude remarks were a red flag right away. Then with the mishandling of my kitten, I knew that we were never going back there. I do not recommend folks going here with their pets. I do not recommend this vet! Keep looking because they are very unprofessional. The doctor is Rude, the staff is Rude. I was taking all three of my dogs here. This day, all I was trying to do was to call and pay their ridiculous prescription fee (which Im pretty sure is illegal to charge). Anyway, they charge a ton for medications, so naturally it makes sense to want to get it somewhere else. Only they hold your prescription hostage until you pay their fee of $10 each time. As soon as I commented on how expensive theirs are, she flipped out and went off on me then hung up one me. I called back and asked for the owner. She handed the phone to him and he went off on me too about having to do paperwork and people keep going elsewhere or something. I tried to get in a few words but he just talked over me like she did then hung up on me too!! I had my wallet out to pay but then thought I'd just go pick up the prescription to be filled where I choose to. And she kept thinking I was wanting it filled there. No! I wanted to pay the dumb fee, get my dogs Rx and get the heck outa there for good. But they never let me clarify if they'd let me do that. It was ridiculous and it happened so fast. Who the heck runs a business like that, hanging up on their customers? And by the way, the super expensive medicine was generic and hard on the liver. I really like Dr. Roundy...he is a very good knowledgeable vet, but the woman that answered the phone today at 8:30 {11/08/2023) was pretty rude. (Not the first time either.) I started to ask about an appointment, and she cut me right off, telling me nothing till mid next week. I tried to ask another question about a salve, and she said she had no idea what I was talking about and take the animal to Salt Lake if it was an emergency. I get it, everyone has a bad day but my gosh she represents the vet clinic and should be more concerned with impressions. She couldn't wait to get me off the phone either. I have gone to Dr.Roundy for years after not jiving so well with the other vet in town. Roundy is a straight shooter and won't beat around the bush when the diagnosis is tough. He is a country vet and will tell you when you can do something or he can do it and charge you. Even 4 years after moving back to SLC we still choose to travel 40 minutes to Tooele to see Roundy. I have spent $1000 on a cat in the city that I know would have been 1/2 that in Tooele. And I have friends that routinely spend $600+ on a teeth cleaning that I have never paid more than $200 for. Worst Vet clinic I have ever had to deal with and let me tell you why. Incomplete examinations. Rude, defensive and incompetent staff. Not a hint of compassion or empathy. Money seems to be the only motivation for this business that is in the business of caring for your animals. Case in point. My dog, Koto, suffered from seizure attacks due to age and heart problems. After a severe attack, I decided it was time. I called this establishment, they told me to come in. Upon arriving and being sent to an examination room, rhoundy wouldn't so much as touch my dog until I paid him the full amount for the visit. "This is a business, you know" were the exact words he said. Called my wife because I forgot my wallet in haste, gave him our card number and only then did he relieve my dogs suffering. While this is going on the young lady working the front desk is bent out of shape because it's past closing hours and she has to stick around while I'm distraught saying goodbye to my dog. Today, I went in to get a shot for my cats asthma. Even though I had been told by another vet and 2 vet techs that I could pick up the depo shot and administer it to my cat at home, because he does not travel well, the lady at the front desk goes "No, we don't dispense that. When she asked for specification on how to properly administer a prescription for our animal (somewhat important to get the details understand correctly) the vet responded to her saying, "I dont answer stupid questions." We left our dog there to be boarded. On the second day we got a call 15 minutes before they were to close saying our dog had run away. They blamed it on our dog that apparently wasn't being watched as he climbed the fence and took off. When asked what they were doing to find him they said they closed at 5:30 and would "take a different rout home to see if they could find him." That is all they were willing to do to get him back. We ended up calling dispatch later that night who said an officer had picked up our dog around midnight across the busy road at Walmart when some kind person found him and called for the officer to come get him. Our dog spent the rest of the night in the shelter. We had a family member pick him up from this boarding facility first thing in the morning who was charged full price for 3 days when one of those days he wasn't even in their care but instead dodging traffic and being cared for in the county shelter. They took no responsibility for not keeping our dog safe, offered no apology, and acted put out by the situation. They even called him a "Little Sh**" when they handed him over to our relative. read more

I have been very happy with both vets, Dr. McCormick and Dr. Joe Roundy. They are excellent vets. However, I don't use this clinic anymore due to one staff member using the name "Minty". She refused to allow my friend to bring in her elderly dog that needed euthanasia emergently because they were booked and she tried to schedule her for several days later! My friend was forced to shoot her 14-year-old dog to put her out of her misery! Minty refused to allow me to bring my horse in for treatment of colic (an emergency) because they were booked. She delayed his treatment almost 3 days, would not allow me to talk to the vet. She was told that my horse was dying, but she didn't care. When I complained to Dr. Roundy about this, he said he talked to her, she lied to him and denied doing this! My horse died! Years earlier I rescued a horse and called to schedule a ranch call. When I gave the name of the horse, Minty refused to make an appointment for this horse because the previous owner had not paid his bill! I, however, have always paid my bills at the time of service and told her I was this horse's new owner, was paying his bills now and she could not refuse treatment, punishing the horse, for his previous owner not paying his bill! She still refused to schedule him. After my horse died, I posted on the biggest local Facebook page for Tooele County, asking if others had trouble with a local vet clinic refusing to treat animals for emergencies, and respecting their privacy, did not list the name of the clinic or person. There was a long list of people who commented and PM'd me about losing their animals because of this same person refusing allow an emergency visit by Dr. Joe Roundy. Minty's actions in denying emergency care are inconsistent with Dr. Joe Roundy's standard of care where he will continue working into all hours of the night, in all kinds of weather, to treat any animals in emergent need of veterinary care. With multiple complaints against this person what motivates the clinic to retain this incompetent and dangerous employee?? In the years I used this clinic, I never had any difficulty with any other receptionists or techs, only one. It's sad that they allow her to continue to cause animals to die by refusing to book appointments or have them seen as an emergency visit. read more

Horrified ...... let me count the ways , the office lady was totally clueless , brought my neighbors cat in because he hadn't eatin in 5 days , even after my neighbor called an made him an appointment the lady had no idea who she was seeing , the vet literally man handled this poor cat , like he was an object then tried to use me as his assistant, to hold the cat down while he took his temperature , I literally had to say don't you have an assistant. He had no compassion for this cat 0 empathy , just like another animal he was sick of dealing with , I have never seen somebody treat animals so poorly in my life , he then went on to tell me he was in the middle of a euthanize next door , I was beside myself , they don't take the animals out of the room for injections or otherwise , there were children in the back rooms of this clinic like it was bring your kids to work day , I literally felt like I was in some back alley clinic that had 0 professionalism or etiquette whatsoever .... WOW I would not bring my loving furry friend here if somebody paid me. read more

A lot of people that I know do not like this clinic, including myself. I had a friend who told me the receptionist made her feel incompetent. Dr. Roundy doesn't seem to know much. Very recently I had a friend who took her sick dog there and he just gave her a bunch of pills for her. She got a second opinion and her dog had kidney failure and was put down. She said he didn't even bother to test her. Another account a different friend of mine took her German shepherd there. She was told that she would have to get put down. She too sought a second opinion, her dog just tore a ligament and got that taken care of. My own experiences have been just as bad. The vets there just don't seem to care about the animals they see. I don't recommend this vet at all. There are other places around with much better services. read more

I like both the docs at Tooele Vet Clinic. We've been taking our dogs there for the past 10 years. Dr. Roundy is rough and gruff but I sense I real heart underneath. He is very competent with a great deal of experience. I completely trust him and follow his recommendations to the letter. Dr. McCormick is very compassionate and warm, and also very competent. The two docs have different styles but I like them both very much. The business is run competently with good organization. The supporting staff are also competent and efficient. read more
