I've rented stuff from various rental places including Home Depot (The worst!). This place has been incredible. If I have a tool out for an extra hour, they don't make a big deal about it. I had a rental scheduled for a dump truck, and the truck they had for me broke down, so they rented one from a competitor just to make sure I had one, even knowing that it would likely cost them more than I was paying for it. Add to that, the dump truck they rented, didn't have the same tow hitch as the one required for the bobcat I rented and had planned to tow with it, so they delivered and picked it up at no additional charge. Since I wasn't able to tow it, I also wasn't able to fuel it back up after use, and they didn't charge me for that either! Since then, I've rented a dump truck and bobcat from them a second time, a jack hammer, and most recently, a concrete coring tool. I've yet to be disappointed with any of my rentals, pricing, availability, or their ability to bend over backwards to make sure my needs were met. These guys kick ass, from beginning to end I was completely taken care of. I know for sure they did everything in their power to make sure I was taken care of and satisfied. I rented a dump truck from them, from beginning to end it was extremely easy fast and streamline, not one issue along the way. These guys were very professional and courteous and made sure that any questions I had were answered promptly. What kind of company will not let you pre-pay for a concrete mixer the day before to make sure you were able to get a time sensitive job done?? I offered to pay for the entire rental fee upfront and pick it up first thing in the morning and they still wouldn't do it saying it's first come first serve. I have employees that have to pick up company vehicles and can't get there till 8 o'clock so if there I'll run it out I'm shit out of luck how does that make any sense? These guys ROCK. I doubted whether angels existed ....Junior is deff an Angel. And this company is GOD. The first time I rented a horse trailer from them, a few weeks ago, it was an emergency. I had a flat tire on my own rig, and my horse stuck on the freeway (literally) with no solution. This biz went over and above. And I vowed to myself to review their biz because their service was in fact, exceptional. I apparently failed to submit the review properly....so I will now make up for the loss. This past week was my second time renting a skid steer and excavator from Toolshed Equipment Rental in Escondido California. They have AWESOME CUSTOMER SERVICE. Charlie and Junior made sure I was taken care of. I found them to be customer first people, that are really willing to assist you so that you can get the job done. The cost of renting the equipment was much less than all the other rental companies. They delivered the equipment promptly. When we had trouble with the skid steer track they sent two mechanics out to correct the problem immediately. I think Toolshed deserves 5 STARS. I rented a forklift from ToolShed for a month while my lift was in for service. They quoted me a good rate $1,500.00/month, when the bill came it was $2,413.50! I used it for just under a month then returned it on my own truck. I rent a yard from a private part just up the street from my business. After about 2 weeks the owner of my yard got served notice with a possible intent to lien their property for the value of the forklift. The owner became so upset that they threatened to kick me out of the property. Then I got a bill from Toolshed - it was 56% higher than they originally quoted! Now it all makes sense why they send out these notices. They failed to pay tax to the State of California on their equipment and instead elected to pay sales tax on the rental, which is legal. But they never notified me that they were subject to this tax and that they were going to pass this tax onto me because of their failure to pay tax at the time they purchased the machine. Second, they offered to throw in fork extensions, but never told me that they were going to charge me $300.00 (they sell new for under $200.00). Third, they charged me $75.00 for the return of the forklift which I returned myself. And fourth, and this is the real kicker, THEY CHARGED ME A $67.50 ENVIRONMENTAL FEE TO RECYCLE THE OIL! They don't recycle the oil every time they rent a machine, and even if they did, it doesn't cost $67.50 to recycle 4-6 quarts of oil!!!! read more

I have been in this industry for over 30 years and my recent experience with Toolshed and Lori Hiatt has been horrendous. I was called a liar, non professional, corrected on my grammar, just personally continually insulted because my sub contractor, American Pride General Engineering Inc., was months in arrears as regards payment. Some of the issues that caused the non payment was also due to the fact that Toolshed had not given American credits that were promised. The fact is there are still some invoices that have not been addressed and it is now been over 6 months. But this did not stop Ms. Hiatt from going after every bond she could get her hands on and file mechanics liens on any and all projects. American Pride was a DVBE small business , the owner is 100% disabled and has three purple hearts from serving our country because he literally put his life at risk for many others. I am putting this information out there to protect other small businesses because the action taken by Ms.Hiatt and Toolshed Rentals allowing her to treat a customer this way is offensive and I do not want another small business to experience this type of customer service. There had been a standing relationship between both companies and Toolshed Equipment Rental had actually been paid over a MILLION DOLLARS IN REVENUE prior to Ms. Hiatt coming on board. read more

I rented a dump truck and all seemed well, so then rented an excavator based on the quote given to my wife. With the truck rental, they clearly specified it was to be returned full. With the excavator, they said nothing in regard to the fuel nor was there any mention (verbally or in writing) of a limited number of hours per day. Now, the excavator had to be delivered and retrieved on a trailer, so it obviously can't simply be driven to the local gas station for a fill-up. About a week after the excavator was returned and my wife paid the bill, we were surprised with an additional charge on the card used for the truck (an unauthorized charge made against a card whose account information was unlawfully retained in their system -- the customer has to give approval to have their credit card information saved--we never did). This additional charge more than doubled the quote that was given prior to the rental. We found that they doubled the daily rate, charged a penalty for using the machine 2.5 hours longer than allowed for a 2 day period and over 12 gallons of diesel at the rate of nearly $9 per gallon (the station right next door has diesel at $2.37 per gallon). I happened to notice the additional $600+ charge when doing the bills. After much arguing, they finally honored the price originally quoted and agreed to charge a more reasonable cost for the fuel. Through it all, they continued to claim they informed us about the 8 hour per day limit and the charge for fuel. On the truck, it was provided in writing before the rental, but we still have yet to see anything in writing on the excavator. They simply failed to specify the details beforehand and then tried to slip additional charges past us after the fact. Even though we were able to finally get the charges closer to what they originally quoted, it was though a great deal of stress and effort. And, we don't feel we can trust this place again given the unauthorized (fraudulent) charges on our card. With so many other options with basically the same rates, why risk it? read more
