They were good quality pieces that were not too large. I liked the tartar sauce- very much to my taste without garlic and onions. Ordered the (27$ btw) Whitefish with salad (came with a packet of dressing) and a baked potato. Ordered the fish blackened. Arrived not really blackened and juuuuust barely at what i hope was 145* cooked. Baked potato was dinky sized and burnt. Sour cream was watery and smelled bad... didnt eat that. Was just OK. Service was just ok. Busy night being a Saturday Menu is way too big. I figured ordering the standout dish would be great but sadly nope. We eat there every time we are in the area, both breakfast and dinner. Had the rib special and the chicken wrap the last time. Followed up the next morning with oatmeal, skillet breakfast, western omelet and eggs. Everybody said it was delish. Good food, good friendly service and fair prices. So disappointed. Never again. I could not recommend this for anyone. While the salad was fairly good ( though wilted and warm) our entire party of 7 stated their food was bad. (Unless it was a fried option like French fries). I ordered the pecan encrusted whitefish thinking it was going to be super fresh, normally made whitefish fillet. A very small, thin dried piece of fish came out with an overcooked, tiny sweet potato. Neither were edible. The french fries are great! The fried perch that my son had was good. I expected great since this boasts weekly delivery of fish. And the waitress was having a very bad night. Very little service to our table. I ended up coming here 3 times on my trip Up North this year. All 3 times I ordered the Bourbon Street Steak. Awesome steak. Delicious every time. It comes with Bread that is excellent. One meal I got French Onion Soup that was good. The other two visits I got a salad that was large and very fresh. All 3 visits I got Mashed Potatoes that were excellent. The Last visit I got a piece of Chocolate Cake to go, it was an excellent piece of cake. Also on the Last Visit I ate with a friend that had the Perch Sandwich. He stated it was excellent. The Service was excellent. Overall 4.5 Stars. Since I have to round I'll round up. I will be back next year. read more

I've been a long standing fan of Toonies, or the Village Chalet as it used to be called a long time ago. They have a decent variety of well put together meals and offer a good drink selection. One of my favorite sandwiches here is the hot roast beef sandwich. It is served open faced and with mashed potatoes. I can surely tell you, that it'll be enjoyable if you are into roast beef and mashed potatoes on a nice warm thick piece of bread. The breakfast options at Toonies are a great thing to look into if you are in the area as well. They offer bloody marys, but I usually don't like to get them here. However, I will order a nice mimosa here with breakfast if I am in the mood for it. They have a great steak and eggs combo as well for breakfast. Check this place out if you are in the area and looking for a nice atmosphere and a good filling meal. read more

We went there for the prime rib (served Saturdays), which was recommended by a friend. It was honestly one of the worst meals I've ever had. Nothing was prepared correctly. The bread was very undercooked, and parts of it had a funky, kind of spoiled, smell and tasted "off." The prime rib, ordered medium, was brown on the outside but raw inside. Mine was fine after one more trip to the kitchen, but my husband's thicker piece was still rare after being sent back twice. The tiny sweet potatoes were also undercooked. The asparagus was mushy. We ended up sharing my prime rib and taking his home. It should be good for sandwiches tomorrow after we cook it more. Service was fine, but you'd think that a manager or owner would stop by after someone's dinner had to be sent back multiple times. Very disappointing. read more

Visit was in late September 2013. We were opting for dinner at a different place in town, but when we were told that it was almost a 2 hour wait (WTF??), we decided to look elsewhere in town. Toonie's a nice, local joint in a touristy town and we were able to walk right in and have a seat. I had a steak, cooked exactly how I wanted it. 'OK' pretty much describes it except for the prices which are way high for this small town and rather average restaurant with not so great service. I've eaten there only once in the last 2 months. One time was okay... Slim Jim type sandwich done well and the service was fine. But there was almost nobody in the place so I'd expect that. Last night we went to have dinner, were seated and then waited a full 20 minutes with still nobody coming to our table to deliver water, or wait on us in any way at all. We got up and walked out, with nobody noticing at all. We seemed irrelevant to them. This is an old local place and has had a number of names and most likely owners. It retains the 'cache' of mostly 'locals', and I have to say mostly people over 65. We are 70 and appeared to be the youngest folks in the place besides the waitress and the bartender. Entrees are very expensive and when they cost that much, the waiter should look clean and maybe even like there is a uniform... of white shirt and black pants..or something. The waitress who was working seemed unkempt, messy hair, and a seemingly dirty apron. I think she may even have been wearing jeans. Small point maybe. But know what you are getting into. I suspect breakfast is fine though I've not had that for years. Oh and the sign is dumb. It is a bull with crossed legs drinking a martini. I've been to this restaurant many times now but I'm unsure why I haven't reviewed it until now. Every experience has been excellent thus far. So far, my only complaint is that most of the nights we've arrived with the special in mind for our meal, they've been out. I'm still dying to try the prime rib again and it kills me that they're always out. Otherwise, the staff has always been very nice - very accommodating even if we're nearly coming close to closing time. The prices are pretty right on with most other restaurants and the food always hits the spot. I've had burgers, sandwiches, steaks, fish, etc and everything has been cooked just as I've asked. The steak I had the other night was pretty fairly priced and it was delicious. The large burger we also got was very good. The servers were very quick to bring refills and extra condiments or napkins. We walked home feeling very well fed! Thanks again for another great meal! read more

Happened to stop in on our vacation and have to say very disappointed. My husband ordered a club sandwich that had one slice of ham and one slice of turkey and a slice of Kraft American cheese. Then a additional $2.00 for crappy French fries.They say homemade ranch, which is just watered down regular ranch and charge extra for everything.
