The environment is pretty nice, so long as you don't go on the weekends. They pack them in like sardines on Friday and Saturday. Makes the whole trip a little less enjoyable. The atmosphere is decent. The food is pretty good. The appetizers are where it's at, though. Everyone has a burger and wings, but not everyone can serve up apps like Toots. Oysters, fried dill pickles and mini corndogs make this place stand out to me. Not to mention that all of those apps are delicious. The regular menu is kind of boring, though. I have always loved Toot's. The meals I've always gotten from there have been great. I've not always cared for the service, based on who was waiting on our table, but I guess I needed to remember that it's just a bunch of college kids in there working. Stopped in to have a refreshing drink while I waited for a ride. Right off the bat, the hostess was rude. Since it was just me, I asked if there was a spot at the bar, she replied with a very short "yep" and turned around and walked off. Then the bar tender tosses out the specials of the day and I order the draft. When I get the bill it's several dollars more than the special price. ALL interactions with the staff were short and not so sweet. And for the record, it was not at the height of the lunch rush, which I can understand a bit of short and to the point interaction. Since moving to the great state of Tennessee 11 months ago I have visited Toots restaurants at various locations as well as in Murfreesboro and Smyrna for both lunch and dinner. Menu: A great variety of menu items to choose from be it appetizers to main course meals. Food: I have not had everything on the menu however everything that I sampled from my plate and friends orders have always been delicious and flavorful. Decor: Lots of memorabilia throughout the restaurant that brings back memories and fun for the kids to enjoy. Service: Each and every time I visit Toots restaurants they are packed. That is an indication of a good place to eat. Regardless of how busy they are, once I am seated a server always shows up within a few minutes and once I place my order the food arrives each time, sooner than I had expected, always hot. That is always a good thing. Price: Everything on the menu is reasonably priced. I am always satisfied with each visit to Toots with both food and friendly service. read more

Food poisoning::: I normally don't leave bad reviews if the taste isn't there but the food poisoning I got from this place almost sent me to the hospital. I've had chicken undercooked from different toots restaurants and I assume it's because they're pumping so many orders out so I usually order it well done because I've thrown chicken out for being very pink in the middle. I give toots a lot of money and order here all the time but enough is enough on the chicken being bad or undercooked. This was in a sandwich so I couldn't tell. Extreme stomach pain and vomiting for 15 hours is enough for me to never step back in this restaurant chain again. I hope no one else gets sick from this kind of negligence. read more

This is a long review. It is based on my latest visit. We have been customers for 27 years, but there has been a huge gap in our patronage. If you ask why we have had a big gap, there are two reasons. First, the wait time for a seat and second, the number of offerings in the 'Boro. This review is of the food, awards, history, and franchises. I am sorry to admit that it has been many years since I've been there. Today, I had frog legs, chicken wings, and oysters. The guy next to me ordered a hamburger. The frog legs are great. They are as I remembered from years gone by. They are very meaty and tender. The dipping sauce is great. I have not been able to buy frog legs this meaty. These were very yummy. Chicken wings and I have a history here. Back in the 90's, I shared my wing recipe with "Injun", the chef. He changed the recipe then and I believe taste that recipe today. The wings are very meaty, naked, and served with mostly drums. They were tender and great. Oysters on the half shell were my final order. Succulent morsels were as I remembered. Clean and pure. They were not salty or sweet, just good. The person next to me ordered a burger and it looked as good as I remember. About 8 banners decorate the dining area. These are local awards from the local newspaper and magazine. They are well deserved. When we "found them" in 1988, the Murfreesboro store on Broad was the original. There are stores now in Smyrna, Cookeville and on South Church Street in the 'Boro. I've eaten at the one in Cookevliie and the food is comparable. There is a Hooter's restaurant in Antioch, TN. Even though Toot's was not in competition, the Hooter's girls posted a chart as to how much prettier they were. Not bad for Toot's who did not know they were being compared. There always has been and still is a wait for a table. It is not long, but don't plan on walking in and getting a table. In 1988, we stopped on a reconnaissance trip. When I described the decor, my wife panned it as not appropriate for our 2 year old. She admits she was wrong. In all our visits, something always interesting has happened. It was a place to meet old and new friends. Go there. This is one of the restaurants I rue over my lack of patronage. read more

My experience is based on a pure-outsider point of view. I didn't know what to expect, since my boyfriend, his high school and college friends, and my boyfriend's family all suggested Toot's and would awkwardly laugh afterwards. I'm pretty sure at this point that it's more of a commentary regarding the humble small-town kind of feel that both Murfreesboro and Smyrna have to offer and suggests that there's little else happening in these towns beyond the "Good food and fun" offered at this local chain. At peak lunch-time hours, it didn't take long to get a table. I was able to look at the small selection of two crane games and a motorcycle game that I believe contribute to the "fun" portion of their slogan. The beer selection was depressingly small: limited to the classic lagers. Being from out of town I went for some Yuengling, since they don't offer this on my half of the country. I can't find anything to complain about on the beer quality, and was happy enough with my glass. We arrived mostly for some snackable-eats while my boyfriend caught up with his college friend. Fried pickles, boneless wings, and the peel and eat shrimp all made it onto our table. The shrimp might as well have come from a super market and the pickles-clearly the pride and joy of the place - seemed pretty plain to me (gasp if you want to, I just don't get all the hubbub about them). The boneless wings were better than an I expected. The portion was large and the chicken was delicious. Beyond this, the place didn't leave much of an impression on me. My family and I have been coming to toots for 15 years now. My home is about three hours away but I will make the drive just for the fried pickles and hot wings. They are just what they claim to be a family bar. There are kids running around, college students hanging out, business lunches, older couples, families, and just people looking for good food. They have daily basket specials normally around $7. Over the years I have tried almost everything on the menu and have enjoyed everything. My favorite things are fried pickles, med hot wings, nachos, fried clams and burger. But they also have a great salad if you are looking to be a bit healthier. They also have great beer specials. Also those of you with kids (not sure if they still do this but) you can print a coloring page off line have your hold color it and they get a free kids meal with purchase. The menu is very affordable. They always have random specials. As far as comparing it to Hooters - it definitely comes off as more family-friendly than Hooters. Service is typically fast but all I ever get are the wings so I doubt it takes them long to prepare them. As far as chains go this is my go-to for wings whenever I'm in Murfreesboro. My favorite sauce is the hot-bbq. I used to love their ninja sauce on their chicken tenders but they no longer offer it. read more

I've gotten better service and a cleaner dining room at Hardee's. So initially when we arrived we were greeted by the host and directed where to go to sit instead of led to our table. Must I say, if the host is not leading the customer to their table what is the point of having a host. When you have a host you set an expected service standard which is definetly not met at this restaurant. After making our way to our table we ordered our main courses, kids hotdog and oysters. The kids hotdog meal and oysters arrived at the same time. As two of us were sharing the oyster platter we asked for a second fork and we're told by our waitress that their was a fork on the kids plate that we could use instead of getting us another fork. While we waited on our salads I looked around our table and was disgusted at all the pure nastiness. Everywhere except our table top and chair seats was covered in dust, grease, old food, and just plain dirt. It was appalling to see that it was so obvious that no attention to the cleanliness of the restaurant had been on anyone's mind in a long long time. After dinner I spoke with a manager that just kept saying sorry but offered no detail on how the problems with our service and experience would be worked on so that our next experience would be better. She showed absolutly no concern or care at all. We paid our full bill and left to never go back. In summary, if your looking for poor service, poor management and a filfthy place to eat...Toot's is the place. If you want a nice dining experience definitely find someplace else. read more

Fried, Greasy, um, fried... I was in town and my friend and I went to this place. I ordered the nachos which were very delicious, but nothing special. They dont have my beer on tap either which was disappointing. We also ordered the chicken wings and I was grossed out that they left the whole wing as opposed to cutting the pointy gross end off. I guess I am a drumstick girl. Overall we were underwhelmed but if in the mood I want some greasy food and beer, we might try it again. read more

Yes! TOOT'S is amazing! I have been dining here since the day they opened..back when the first Elvis (pet iguana) was little, and all the girls wore orange shorts and danced on the bar top while the old juke box cranked out 50s tunes. Best wings. Period. Not breaded. Best wing sauce... Sloppy, yummy wing sauce. The Burgers...so good. Oysters on the half shell. Fried pickles. Cold beer. And let's not forget about the Ribletts with curly fries! Sure, it's greasy food. But, in this case..I just have to say "so what". You can watch the game on any of the multitude of TVs or bring your whole family and not worry about what your man or your kids are staring at (like Hooters). There are two locations in the 'Boro. Impressed on walking in, looks like fun, kid friendly. They pushed the $5 hamburgers so we bit, they were okay (stretch), salad was great, wings great, but the roach that crossed our napkin container, along side of table and then went under really, really wrecked the whole experience. I had pickleball gym bags on floor next to where we saw it and immediately grabbed my stuff to take it to the car - no roaches wanted in our home! Great neighborhood bar with okay food. The best I've found to date are their chicken fingers. For $1 extra you can get them tossed in your favorite sauce. Toot's is on my top 10 list of restaurants. I've been been going there for as long as I can remember and my parents went there when it was first opened. the food is tasty, deep fried, salty, diet ruining goodness. I almost always get the chicken strip basket shaken medium and the dill pickle chips and they are not only consistent but delicious. I know I can go there any day of the week and get the spicy, hot sauce slathered chicken I know and love. if you're in the mood for good bar food and want a good place to take your friends and family I strongly suggest toot's. read more

The service here has gone dramatically downhill over the last year. For the second time in a row, they "lost" our ticket for our fried pickles. Used to be you wouldn't have time get settled and your food would come. Tonight we have been waiting 30 minutes. Well, mine has been here for five minutes, the other 3 people in my party still don't have theirs. If this were a one off, I'd let it go. But this has been the case the last several times we've been here. I think I'm done with what used to be our family go-to.
