Oh my now doggie day cares are mandating annual flu shots for dogs. Who's the vaccine manufacturer cleaning up on this scam? All of a sudden in 2015 and 2016 "several" dogs got the "flu" at this location and since then they have had no dogs get this new "flu"since they believe it's because of the flu vaccine LOL. Where was this so called flu the decades prior? We asked for studies on this new vaccine and of course they have none. Since we had a previous dog have a reaction to a vaccine we are not going to succumb to such a ridiculous request. Very scary these types of mandates implemented by doggie day care owners vs true medical professionals. Our vet in both IL and FL never mentioned nor recommended this vaccine once. Scam! read more

This was the worse experience. I took my puppy who had not been to a doggy day care before and never again. I got the call that he was barking and would bark at the people there. He is a mini golden doodle very sweet and the trainer couldn't believe that he was the dog they described. Yes he was probably nervous and scared but by no means is he an aggressive Doug. I picked him up and when I asked to see where they had him they wouldn't let me see and when they walked him out on his leash he looked completely terrified. Our trainer agree and said they have no clue what they are doing and to go somewhere else. Word of mouth is very powerful and will not recommend this place! read more

As a pet care facility owner in Texas, Top Dog Retreat has really impressed me. From the moment I walked in the front door, they were fully engaged with their clients. The staff really cares about the dogs there. Donna does lots of research on canine nutrition, and carries both Fromm and Earthborn dog foods, which are much higher in quality than what you'll find at your local grocery store. Their indoor play areas are spacious, and dogs get time together to socialize, chase balls, and get some one-on-one attention. I visited and interviewed the owners of four Dog Day Cares in the area before making a decision on the best facility for our new puppy. Although three of the four facilities we visited are much closer to our home, Top Dog Retreat won our vote by a long shot. They won the first impression vote when I walked in and saw that it was the most clean, and professional-yet-welcoming facility of the four I visited. The staff responded to me promptly and they were happy to give me a tour and explain their philosophy of providing quality care, play and learning opportunities that they provide each day for each and every dog. It was clear that they have a well-trained staff who love what they do, and really enjoy and know each and every dog in their care. It has been nine months since that first visit and our puppy has been going to Top Dog every day, Monday through Friday, since then, and we couldn't be happier! Our puppy drags us in each morning, so he is clearly happy and well-cared for. The staff knows our puppy well, and they really see the training of our puppy, even through the challenging times, as a partnership. We couldn't be happier with Top Dog Retreat! read more

My dogs love coming here- they pull me in the door, always a good indicator of a good prior experience. They've come for daycare and also been boarded there. Always come home healthy (and tired!). Best place for dog boarding. We recently moved out to Elmhurst, after living in the city for 9 years. We boarded our dog for years at Pooch hotel and before that Urban Outsitters. We thought Pooch was ok, for the city. We were apprehensive to send him somewhere new, however after speaking on the phone to the owner we felt more at ease. Our dog has now spent 1 long weekend and had a couple random day care visits. This place is fantastic and I thoroughly enjoy the owners communication and that they genuinely seem like they enjoy what they do. First experience was fine. Our 10-month old golden retriever puppy stayed here for almost a week while we were out of town. She had a great time and seemed very happy when we brought her home. They told me that everything went well. Two weeks later we took her there for daycare to play for the day. I was called at 1:30 and asked to come pick my dog up because she was barking too much and didn't want to settle down when they took her out of the play area. When I got there to pick her up, (1) they attempted to bill me for the full day, and (2) I was told by the owner that I had 2 choices - either bring her back more regularly so that she would behave better and adjust, or not to bring her back because "it might not be a good fit". We chose option 2 and have not returned. read more

We have brought our dog here for both daycare and boarding. After the boarding she was tired, but happy, and clean. We had her get training while she was boarded there and it worked like magic. She was a different dog when she got home. Still very friendly, but also much better behavior. The daycare is great when we have to leave her all day. She is excited to get there and she comes back tired. The place is clean, and the staff is friendly. They really seem to understand our dog's needs and personality. read more

We recently boarded our two min-pins here for four days while traveling on vacation. Overall, we're very pleased with the experience. The facility is clean and well kept, staff is friendly, prices are typical, and most importantly - our dogs seemed to react very well to the experience! We recently switched to Top Dog because our girls were not responding well to a different, nearby facility. More specifically, each time they were boarded elsewhere, they returned home very ill - NOT the case here. Our girls were returned to us the same happy and healthy pups that we dropped off. We'll definitely use Top Dog for our future boarding needs! read more

We have been taking our dog to Top Dog Retreat for over a year for boarding and playtime. She loves it there and comes home tired but happy from playing with her friends. They make sure your dog gets plenty of exercise and rest time and truly cares about your concerns and your dogs happiness. Everyone there is friendly and knowledgeable. I would not take her anywhere else, I have seen other places and I would not leave her anywhere but Top Dog. Our dog doesn't get much time to socialize with other dogs and we bring her once a week just to socialize and play with other dogs. I recommend you stop by and check them out if you have a dog that you will ever have to board or just want your dog to have some playtime with other dogs. read more

Our experience with Top Dog has not been a pleasant one. We have been good paying customers but the level of service and treatment lacks professionalism. Starting with actual dog care, we feel they are only interested in taking your money and walking the dog back to the play area and let them run free with minimal supervision. Our dog has come back with a 1 inch cut on her nose and cut lip. We've signed up for training only to be told it's complete but minimal owner training has occur. I was shown how the puppy was taught to sit. Wow, this is what we paid for! Getting the owner to spend time with us has not been easy or pleasant. The last straw was last week as I was walking in holding the door for an owner to exit, his dog bite me. When I asked the employee what is their policy or how do you handle dog bits? She told me the bite did not happen on Top Dogs property. I was holding their door! She also said she would tell the owner but she is out of the country on vacation. I'll have her call you. When I asked when the owner is returning her response was "I told your wife." Unbelievable. We are done and telling our family, friends and other dog owners. read more

The owners of Top Dog Retreat are lying to you. I used to bring my dog there frequently, but I have been decreasing her time there since I started having suspicions that something wasn't quite right. Many times she came home with welts and scratches. The last time I brought her, I peeked through the window that goes to the play area. I saw at least 15 large dogs with NO ONE supervising them. I was told multiple times that they maintain a 1 person to 10 dog ratio. Doesn't seem that way. I've spoken with others who have stopped sending their dogs for similar reasons. I won't have my dog getting hurt because no one is supervising her in a group of dogs that is supposed to be SAFE and TAKEN CARE OF. I've tried speaking to the owner, but she's rarely there and when she is, she is extremely rude and brusque. For the sake of your dog, be aware that Top Dog is not the safe place they claim. read more

Mistreated Dog! We left this establishment very upset with the way our dog was treated. Our dog is a loving pet that gets very excited in new environments. Because of her breed (Pitbull) and since she barked, she was kept in a cage all day and not let out even to use the bathroom. We were told that she had a "menacing" bark, and the woman at the counter commented that this is why they typically do not take pitbulls. Our dog goes to kennels regularly when we need to travel, and she does very well. We have received nothing but great reviews. But this establishment would not see past her breed, and accused her of being "menacing" because she was excited and wanted to be let out of a cage. Imagine being stuck in a cage all day and watching people and dogs walk by, but not being let out. And then, they had the audacity to say we needed to pay for a full day (not the trial/evaluation) because our dog had "failed". They should be reported for mistreating animals, not recieving additional compensation. Our dog is like a family member, and if they were so concerned, they should have called us to pick her up....not punish her all day for being the active, excited animal we love. We have never been so upset with the way our dog has been treated. I know our circumstance may be differernt from others, but the fact that this had happened at all makes us feel that this is a very poor environment for any dog. read more
