I was searching for a good salon here in the city. I definitely had no idea where to go for a treatment since I usually had my hair fixed in the Philippines. As I was searching in Yelp, I came across this salon in Brooklyn. New salon, only 1 review. I told myself, might as well try since I love to help out starting business. I called twice to see if they can accommodate me and they didn't hesitate to say yes. After traveling for an hour from UES, I noticed that they have ribbons and lights over the place only to find out they just opened up today. I had no expectations whatsoever, I just needed my hair straightened. I usually get Brazilian Blowout, so I decided to try the Japanese Straightening today. First off, since this is a very new salon, all their equipments are new, so I wasn't really afraid of sanitation and stuff. Social distancing is maintained; all staffs and costumers have masks on. The place is very clean and chic. So for the process itself, they started off by washing my hair 3x with different treatments. After which, it was dried and the Magic Sleek Relaxer was applied. It smelled good; will make you a little fuzzy but tolerable. The staff carefully coated my hair with the treatment; making sure all strands were covered. It was then wrapped with plastic and heated up for a few mins. Then waited for another hour so the treatment soaks well on my hair. Joanne then checked if it was good to be washed but it needed another 10mins. After rinsing, comes the longest part, the ironing part. Boy, they ain't kidding with this one. They had to do it 4-5x just to make sure everything is flat and straight. Since my hair was so thick, it took about 1.5hrs to finish. Then it was time to apply Magic Sleek Finisher, let it sit for about 10-15mins, wash off and blow dry. Results were marvelous. I was actually looking for something within my budget range but spending a little extra didn't really matter anymore especially seeing the finished product. Joanne also offered the after treatment but seeing I have already exceeded my budget, I kinda have to pass on it for now. With that, she offered to give me a free oil treatment which I can come back after a month (Yey!!!). Their attention to details is real superb. I was also offered water and chocolates. They check up on you from time to time to make sure you're okay. I came at 2:45PM and finished at exactly 8:45PM. It didn't felt rush at all. They made sure they do it correctly. I didn't know it will take this looong but this is so worth it. To Joanne, Amy and Yen- thank you so much! Thank you for extending your time for me. I really really loved how my hair turned out. Joanne is rude, unprofessional and doesn't know how to cut hair. I decided to give this place a try because I was in the neighborhood and there were customers inside. I looked up on Yelp and there wasn't recent reviews but there was a few from the past. I asked for Joanne's feedback on how she would cut if I kept it chin length vs cutting it short. She rec'd short so I decided to go for it. BIG MISTAKE. I took off my glasses so Joanne could cut my hair. When she was done, I put my glasses back on & was horrified. I told her, I didn't like it. I said it's so short. Her response was you, "You don't have a neck so I had to cut your hair shorter so you can appear taller". WTF?? No how I can I make it to your liking, no I'm sorry this isn't what you wanted, no suggestions as to styling it in a certain way etc just plain insults to my face. My hair is a thick mass on the sides. She should have tried to taper it more, or cut the hair so it looks less chunky & heavy. If she was an experienced stylist she would know that but clearly she's incompetent. I strongly suggest no one comes here for a haircut unless you want to be insulted and walk out looking like a freak. read more

Had the most comfortable time at New 1 Hair Salon today. I called ahead for an appointment and was quickly received. Their covid precautions include taking your temperature, having you write down your name/ phone #/ temperature/ and time of visit. I had the most relaxing time when my hair was washed. It was followed by massages on my scalp and I nearly melted into my chair. When I got up to sit in front of the mirror, Joanne asked me on how I wanted to be addressed and the style of cut I wanted. After the cut, I also purchased a conditioner, Joanne went as far as describing the unique aspects of the shampoos and conditioners. When I selected one, she gave me detail instructions on how to use it as well. Overall- had a relaxing time and highly encourage others to visit this salon as well. read more

Before i came she asked me to describe my hair and i did with detail and she quoted me 250$ for magic sleek then waited until i came in 9am in the morning with twins to tell me that my hair looks a little longer so she will charge more Then she did not tell me that it's CASH ONLY !!!! and when i came to pay i told her she didn't notify me and there isn't my bank near and she said leave your babies here at the salon and go. I was like I'm not leaving my babies here and atm only allows 100$ at a time and it's 3 blocks away i can zelle you or you can charge my debit pick one and then she finally accepted zelle because a nice customer came between us then as i was sending the money (with tip even though my whole experience was horrible) she yells loud and says "it's 250 NOT INCLUDE TIP" ridiculous and horrible won't be coming back read more

I was searching for a hair salon on the computer. Due to COVID-19, my hair got very long. And it had not been this long for many years. I had been growing it out for quite some time. And since I am not used to wearing my hair halfway down my back; and constantly wearing it pulled up even when I sleep; I was not used to long hair anymore. I had been going to Empire Beauty School in Bensonhurst for hair color, but due to the pandemic, they are not seeing clients. And I usually do not get my hair cut there anyway, only color. So I decided to sort of take the plunge, and find a hair salon to trim my hair. And so I found New 1 Hair Salon in Dyker Heights. They are fairly new and I decided to take a chance. I had a shampoo and conditioning, but not only that, but a magnificent head, neck and back massage during my washing. That was so refreshing and felt so wonderful. Thank you so much Yan. You have magical fingers. I think they are 3 sisters who co-own the salon. Amy did my cut and trimmed and styled my hair into angles and long layers. And I must say she did a fantastic job.
