He rarely checked in with us. I had to flag him down for drink refills. Just overall a crap experience. Other tables that arrived after us got their food and left while we still didn't even have our food. I liked the food and service at their old location and I was excited to try this new location. Food was really good. The mac and cheese was extremely creamy and had a nice "smoky" flavor. The noddles were cooked perfectly too. Pulled chicken and the brisket were cooked on point. Ordered brisket lean and got just that! The fried okra was very greasy, but the ranch served with it is delicious. Bread pudding isn't too sweet which was nice! The sweet tea was fresh! Two "cons" was how slow the service was, only 5 tables with people at them, so not busy. Service was friendly, but they must have been extremely understaffed. We waited over 10 minutes to even put in a drink order, then another 10 minutes to receive our drinks and place the food order, not a place to visit if you are looking to have lunch in under an hour with drinks taking 20 minutes to receive. I ordered the smoked chicken nachos (with jalapeños on the side), the fried pickles, and the 2 meat combo from Uber Eats. As such, I can forgive the food not being as hot as I would have preferred. However, I found all of the meat to be quite dry. The 2 meat combo absolutely needed the sauce that they gave me, though I did enjoy the mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese sides. I found the nachos to be very underwhelming as well, very dry and one note. I did enjoy the pickle chips though, and whatever sauce it came with. I do not get out to the Haile area very often, so when I do I always look for a new place to try out. This time around, I noticed Top Hog was there (in the place of the old Beef O'Brady's) so I gave it a shot for lunch. Walking in, the place is set up as counter service with to-your-table delivery, at least for lunch. For dinner I believe they have more traditional wait staff on hand to take your order. I ordered the wings and a plate of ribs. They were out of a couple of items, so I had to make do. The wings were decent, though the buffalo sauce was relatively generic, and my thinking is that it came from a commercially produced tub. The ribs were good, but they were baby-backs, and while those are good, I really like entire spare ribs over the reduced size of baby back or St. Louis cut ribs. I would have to try a couple of other things here to give a true rating of the place, but in terms of ribs and wings, there are other places in the area that do a better job. read more

First right off the top - the food is fantastic, and our meal was every bit as good as when we went to the location in Jonesville. I got the 2 meat combo as did my entire table and we were all very happy with that, but the problems began well before we ever got seated. If you go to this location, understand that while the food is great their staff is abjectly terrible. We walked in at 8 PM on a very slow night and were not seated after several minutes despite seeing someone looking at us from the back, but his duties were not up front and he did direct the hostess back to her stand to seat us. After we sat down, we not only waited more than 10 minutes to have any of the wait staff acknowledge our presence - they all seemed to be space cadets off in their own orbit - but one of them finally came to the table near us who had been seated after we did and began to take their order. This very same waitress, along with 2 others, had walked by us multiple times without even thinking to check on us despite our menus still being in front of us and no drinks on the table. It was at this point I had to get up from my table and actively seek out the person that seated us, who appeared to be the manager / cook and was working in the kitchen, and ask him if anyone was going to take our order. I've never had to actually seek out kitchen staff in a restaurant to have our orders taken before, but there's a first time for everything I guess. I've got no idea how there can be any confusion about who has what table when there were 4 of them sat at that particular time, but they somehow managed to do that last night. When our orders were taken and the food arrived, it was fantastic. Make no mistake, this review has nothing to do with the food and everything to do with the horrific disorganization and service we received tonight. We will not ever be back to this location and will instead drive to the original location, which is run by people who have it together. read more

We have visited all top hog locations now. My reviews over the years have been mixed on this place. This was the first visit to the new location in front of the Oaks Mall. We started with the bacon wrapped jalapeños, yum!! But they were a little on the spicy side. The ranch was on point and a welcome dip to cool off those jalapeño's. Brisket was really tasty, nicely seasoned and melt in your mouth tender. The original smoked sausage was good, especially with the mustard sauce. The pulled pork is average and the ribs are not your typical bbq joint ribs, they have a citrus sauce, I would skip them. My favorite sides here are the baked beans, garlic green beans, and collard greens (the cornbread goes nicely with the collards). The Mac and cheese and cheese grits were also good (both creamy and smoky cheesy). This location is really cool on the inside and has a "roadhouse" vibe going on. The service was friendly and prompt. Both my kids have celiac disease and this place had great reviews on the other app. They were extremely gluten-free friendly. We had the fried pickles, and the bacon wrapped fried jalapeños.... (Gf!) We also tried the brisket, pulled pork, macaroni and cheese, corn bread, ribs and fries .... Most of it was gluten-free... and all of it was delicious. We have eaten barbecue a literally hundreds of places over many years, but Top Hog has them all beat, hands down! Their mouth watering brisket is insanely delicious, and their pulled pork is to tender it literally melts in your mouth. Their entire menu is spectacular, including their heavenly salads and delectable drinks and desserts, and their incredibly quick and amazing staff make for a wonderful dining experience for the whole family. They also support the live Blues music scene with some incredible regional Blues artists with tasty tunes! How can you beat that? Oh this place is consistently good! I always get the chilli cheese fries & it's so delicious. The portions are barely acceptable- you see it's enough but I always end up saying, " I want more those were so delicious". Also the poutine fries are good albeit the gravy is a bit salty still I love them. We tried all the meats & they all Smokey yummy and the bbq sauce is so great. I love the hott spicy one while my partner gets the mild. They also serve you a lil cup of pickled onions- I love those too. Their pig cakes or whatever their called are yummy too. I finally got to eat here after hearing about this place for awhile. It was fantastic! The food is super fresh and high quality. Prices are reasonable. Service was amazing. Our waitress was really attentive and friendly. I had pulled pork and brisket combo with fried okra and collard greens. The meat was melt in your mouth tender. They offer a bunch of different BBQ sauces so you can pick your fav. I liked the sweet one, personally. The fried okra had the perfect amount of breading on it and was served with delicious homemade ranch. The collards were some of the best I've had. Not bitter at all but also not too salty - just perfect. Honestly, the food tasted like your Favorite Southern Grandma cooked it for you with love. I'll definitely be back again as soon as possible. I recommend this restaurant. The restaurant was very clean and inviting. The location is right off 75 at exit 387, then about 2 mins drive from the exit to the restaurant. It's at the mall but has it's own exterior entrance so that's convenient. It's a great in-town spot for locals or an easy stop for people traveling on through who want a bit of a rest and a great meal on their journey. 5 stars. read more

Visiting son at UF and needed a good restaurant for the family. Daughter is Celiac (gluten issues). Food was incredible and daughter could eat 90% of food on menu.
