My review is based on training. The problem wasnt the training. The problem was the trainer, Rebekah. I was told by several people about how good this place was and how great the instructors were. When I told those people about my experience with the instructor Rebekah. She spoke down to us, pretty much said everything we did was wrong, and was just all around rude. Not to mention PUPPY CONSULT. Every question we had seemed to lead to the answer being PUPPY CONSULT. Its as if she had a quota to mention PUPPY CONSULT. Top Notch is the only place I will board my dogs and I am picky! My dogs love it there and act like they are going away to camp when dropped off! I now use Top Notch for day care and training as well. The facility is clean, the staff well trained and very professional. The training classes are organized and run very smoothly. I have used this place for boarding, daycare, and grooming and have always been extremely happy with the service. I never felt uneasy leaving my dog, and he was always happy to see the staff, which is a big feat considering that he is a very shy and initially timid dog. Their prices are reasonable, $20 for a full day of daycare (up to 12 hours), $25 a day for boarding which includes food and kong snack, and $30 for grooming our lab mix. The staff here are very nice and all obviously love dogs, and the dogs there love them. read more

I used to take my dogs to Petsmart for grooming but my dogs HATED it (fought me every time I went to drop them off) and after my dog Jasper came home with a neck injury (which resulted in a vet visit) and NO one there could explain how he was hurt, I decided to switch. That is when I stumbled on Top Notch. Both of my dogs who are mixed rescues LOVE Top Notch. No more fighting to get them in the door. One of my dogs Brady is very timid from his life on the streets but they always take a little extra time with him to make sure he feels comfortable and when I go to pick them up, you can tell they had a great time. I also highly recommend having your dog evaluated to enter a play group. Ultimately, it opens up a whole new world for you and your dog. It is nice to be able to drop the dogs off in the morning and pick them up in the evening (after work or errands) knowing they had an awesome time. In the past, I have dropped them off at other groomers for several hours (because of my work schedule) and my dogs are left in a cage the whole time not even let out for bathroom breaks. If they are part of the play group, they get to play with other dogs when they are not being groomed. My dogs are small so they enjoy the Pee Wee Cottage tremendously. Drop them off and Top Notch takes care of the rest. Even when adding on daycare, my bill is at least $30.00 less then Petsmart and that was for just the grooming. Sometimes it may be hard to get in, but I think that just proves how much they are in demand. read more

They're the reason why I created a yelp account -- I just had to add in my two cents of praise for this kennel! The staff is soo sweet. Even my timid dog who resists strangers will willingly allow their staff to lead her away when I drop her off. The last time I was there, I also observed someone else dropping off her dog, who excitedly ran to and pawed at the entrance to the facility -- I considered this a very good sign. Not only that, but this kennel is a well-oiled machine. They're organized, very clean, call to confirm reservations, provide a detailed "report card" upon pickup, and keep a consistent daily routine -- all ingredients that make me feel secure about leaving my beloved dogs here. read more

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! Top Notch Kennels. Been taking my husky there for awhile now to daycare and it was best decision we ever made. She's much calmer and I love how it's helped her socialize with other dogs. She makes her presence known in the morning and passes out during the car ride home. Let me just say that you have to allow for the fact that they don't have nearly as much room as they need if they wanted to serve everyone who wants to use their boarding services. You do need to plan way way ahead and make reservations. That said, I am always happy with everyone who works here. They are very nice to my goofy Golden girl who is a rascal, and the desk staff are excellent. We use the day care sometimes, though it's a long way from our home now. Top Notch is an amazing facility run and owned by an amazing trainer named Lisa Moore! Unlike other day care or boarding facilities, Lisa is a highly educated positive reinforcement dog trainer with an impressive amount of experience training, handling, competing with, and showing dogs. She has taken the time to build and run her facility for the well being of the dogs. This can be seen in the cleanliness of the suites, the way the play yard is divided for dogs with different play styles, the careful screening process to keep all dogs safe, and the longevity of staff that have worked there for multiple years and know each dog extremely well. Any dog that gets to stay at Top Notch is a really lucky dog! read more

This past weekend was the first time I used boarding services, and I chose to do it through Top Notch because of how much fun my dog had at their daycare several weeks ago. I was pretty nervous about him being in someone else's care for three days, but Top Notch eased all of my worries and gave me detailed information on how my pup was doing while I was on vacation. I really appreciate all of the friendly and helpful staff at Top Notch and I will definitely be using their services whenever I need to in the future. read more

Our pups love Top Notch, they are always so excited when we pull up to the doors! We have boarded and have done day care, and have recieved expectional car of our dogs with both! As owners we love that their are so many option of care when we board, we always opt for the extra peanut butter Kong at night and individual play time in the day! I am so disappointed with Top Notch. I boarded my 3 dogs there from 12/30 to 1/6/17 for about $800. Two dogs stayed in the Pee Wee Cottage. After returning home, they had explosive diarrhea and vomiting for 60 hours after their stay. One is still having green diarrhea. My yellow lab stayed in the main kennel, after picking him up I noticed a red rash with sores or bites on his belly and scattered on his body. I called Top Notch to share my concerns and ask about the rash, but I was politely dismissed by Nancy, which made it much worse. I brought the dog to the vet and he was diagnosed with a bacterial skin infection and is now on 2 weeks of oral antibiotics. I dropped off my dogs in great condition, up to date on vaccines and healthy, and picked them up in such poor condition. read more

They said not to worry and he would be fine. Said they were sorry he was sick. Maybe just a cold but, I am still out the money for the vet. We have a little 10 lb Schnorkie that we boarded in October. He takes medication twice daily and we were assured he'd be well taken care of, however, when we picked him up he was filthy, had a huge visible knot of hair on his hip that had to be cut out and the new towels in his crate were soaking wet and stained (underneath where no one bother to check them during his stay) . The WORST part was that he had some of his medications wadded up in his towels and stuck in his mustache. They don't care! If that's not enough I learned that his play time consisted of being in the front office, not in a play yard or outside. They had the nerve to say they monitored him daily. BEWARE! read more

If I could give ZERO stars, I would! This place is the worst! I do NOT recommend going here, for training that is, unless you like the "clicker". When I first arrived, the instructor told us not to let our dogs meet each other; during class there wasn't any kind of socialization, either. Another thing, if the dog is being rewarded with a treat, why do I have to throw it on the ground? I mean seriously, I just recently got my Husky to take treats nicely and now I'm throwing them on the floor for him. I don't think so. He kept looking at me like he did something wrong. After one class, I will not be returning. They should let people know that it's a "clicker" class. Had I known, I would have never signed him up for it. read more

The training classes, daycare, and boarding are great. I've used all three. My dogs don't always have the best temperaments and the staff was wonderful with them over a week plus stay. I like that everyone is trained on dog behavior (or at least it seems so) unlike other kennels I've used. Yes there is the occasional kennel cough outbreak, but I feel that should be expected at any dog care facility. It's like a cold that gets passed around between kids and is always going to happen. read more

We booked our dog several weeks in advance. When we dropped our dog off the day of our trip, we were told she couldn't be boarded because she was past due on a shot. I understand this policy, but we were never told this in advance even when we called to confirm. The receptionist insisted we were told this as it is their policy to do so. She was rude and basically called us a liar when she dropped the ball. Why would I risk my vacation by not complying. Our vacation was ruined. We were on our way when we dropped her off. I do not recommend as they were unprofessional and unorganized. I was insulted by the way the receptionist talked to both my wife and I. I will not be back, and I hope others consider before dealing with this outfit. read more

In all fairness, I took my dog a while back and they may have improved since then......may have. I took my dod back in February and I was planning on taking a trip soon and was researching other facilities and could not believe this one had such a great rating. Two cons and no pros for me. The first thing was the smell, sure the dog didn't smell like turd or urine but the smell his coat had was unbearable!! It took me three baths to get rid of it, probably the disinfectant they use, talk about overkill. Second thing was a gash above his paw, WTF!! They didn't have to walk or play with him why was there a gash on his paw? I didn't ask to talk to anyone or complain because I never do I just don't recommend the place and never return. I will try their doggy day care though and give them a chance because I figure it's two different things. Well, I'll be sure to leave a rating on that one as soon as I've gone through the experience. read more

I had problems on two different visits with kennel cleanliness and it causing my dog's personal stuff to be ruined or unsanitary. Also, I one time left four rawhides for my dogs to chew on while there. When picking up my dogs they returned the rawhides to me and one of them had clearly been sitting in urine. I am not sure why they didn't notice the urine stained rawhide and give them another one. I opted to purchase the additional playtime for my dogs and when I called to see how they were doing I was told that they were given less time than was paid for. This kennel is pricey and I expect at least my dogs to be well taken care of and I am not confident that that is what occured while they were at this dog kennel. I voiced my concerns to management and was given excuses and no apologies, so clearly they feel their treatment of dogs is acceptable. read more

Anyone searching for puppy training, DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!! I took my german shepherd puppy here for what was promised to be professional, experienced training, and all I received was favoritism and verbal abuse from the owner. My dog sensed that she was not friendly, and due to that, she labeled us as the troubled pooch in the class. When I approached her to get a full refund, I was told that her program was not the issue, it was my dog, and myself who needed more "private " training sessions, when I had already paid her $160.00 for six classes. It became clear to me that top notch kennels is not top notch, and only cares about the money she is making, and allows greed to fuel her decisions. She even accused me of "manhandling" my dog, when I was simply trying to control him on a leash, which was one of the reasons I was there. The owner states in the introduction video, not to be embarrassed if your puppy is out of control, but clearly calls you out in front of the entire class if the dog is acting like a puppy. They do not show compassion for these dogs, and I would turn around and run if you are contemplating this program. The only reason I rated them one star was due to their one trainer, Rebecca, who was good with my dog, and clearly needs to be in charge, instead of the owner. read more

I take my yellow Lab there at least 2-3 times a week due to mine and my husbands work schedules and I have to say I am more than happy with their service. My puppy is always excited to go there and the staff is always happy to see him. With all the great reviews i figured this is the best place to take my dog in for a grooming. the only other dog groomer i have been to is petsmart, when i went to go pick up my dog from petsmart they gave me a check list of all the task that were performed and left notes on what should be done to help the dog out in the future. It was the complete opposite when i picked up my dog from top notch. He was still wet and was shedding hair like crazy (didnt have that problem at petsmart). The next morning my dog started crying when he itched his ears, so i checked in his ears and there was black dots all on the inside. I knew right away he had an ear infection and took him to the vet. I had to spend 270$ at the vet just to get it cleared up. If top notch suspected an ear infection they should have told me when i picked up my dog, or they should have attempted to clean out his ears. There was ZERO communication re guarding the ear infection or possible infection when I picked up my dog. At least at petsmart they will let me know if they suspect a problem. In my opinion this place is wayyyy to over priced and over hyped. I will not recommend this place to anyone Once i contacted them i was offered a free grooming session. ummmmmmm no thanks i rather not have to take the chance of having another 270$ vet bill. read more

I took my puppy here for their "great beginnings puppy class" or puppy socialization class. The class cost was $160.00 for 6 weeks of class. It is way too expensive for what you get. The class is a revolving class meaning that new people and their puppies start every week while others are finishing the class and in their last week, and of course a bunch of people are in the middle of their course. The revolving class should be a red flag right there, think how does a class operate that everyone is at a different point. Well, the answer is not very well at all. It is puppy socialization for puppies 8-14 weeks of age which would be fine if all the puppies did was socialize. Instead, the staff have the puppies divided into multiple groups based on play style sometimes as small as only 2 puppies. I don't like to think I paid for my dog to play with only 1 other puppy, I want my dog to see and interact with all personalities and types of dogs to help him become well rounded. They let the puppies play in the groups which they seem to dictate for a bit of time before having everyone interrupt their puppy's play session by leashing him/her and then giving treat(s). This process is repeated several times over the course of about 30 or 40 minutes depending on the session. After socialization, they then have everyone go to the classroom area for a discussion. The discussion seems to be a waste of time as all the topics are easily read out of a book. (In fact, they give a handbook on the first night with all the information in it) While the lady talks about easily accessible information you are expected to just sit in folding chairs while your puppy lays down in front of you on whatever you bring for him/her to lay on and chew whatever you brought for your puppy. I am pretty sure anyone can do this part at home and rather than listen to a lady talk, read the material from a book. The classroom session lasts anywhere from 20 minutes to a painfully long 45 minutes depending on the session. The classroom sessions occasionally will have a very short activity session but they are of hardly any meaning. (play tug with your puppy, follow the treats, etc.) These activities seem to last 5 minutes or less, the staff always goes to check on the same puppies every time. I don't believe the staff ever even acknowledged my puppy besides picking him up to move to a different group during social time. I suggest you avoid taking your puppy here. The class itself is probably worth only $20.00 for what you get. Yes, they give you coupons to use at their own facility for a discount but you are essentially paying for the coupons. Also the coupons have to be used during your course. Also, the facility this class is held in is a dump. It is a warehouse with either the worse air conditioning unit ever made or no air conditioning at all and only fans. It is uncomfortably warm for both people and dogs. To summarize, this is an overly priced class in an uncomfortable environment for instruction that can easily be read out of a book and some coupons which essentially are a gift card with an expiration date as that must be where they get the idea this class is worth so much money. I noticed also, that there were a lot of people that only came once or twice before disappearing but they never finished. It makes me wonder, was I an idiot for actually finishing, or were they smart for not wasting their time?? read more

I recently had reviewed Top Notch praising their wonderful staff, but concerned about the plastic guards on the fence (my dog was eating them). Since posting my concerns they have modified daycare to include areas where there are not fence guards and were kind of enough to let me know of the changes. My goldendoodle was SO happy to return last week and we will continue to return weekly so that he can play with his friends! I love the workers at daycare - they always know my dog by name as soon as he walks in. I also appreciate that they make him follow commands such as sitting before being allowed to go through the door. I am so happy that they listened to my concerns and took steps to address them so that we could return! Thank you so much for the excellent customer service! read more

I am new to the area from Denver. Stayed with family in Turlock. I have a 3 year old Goldendoodle who was in dire need of a bath, cut, the whole nine yards especially after a long move and four days of camping. It is very tough to find a new place to take your pet when you are new and when you were in love with your old place (mine in Denver). I was given their name and looked them up on line. Love their website. So I made the appointment. I was very clear on how I wanted Kodi to be groomed. I was nervous. A young girl named Sam groomed Kodi. When it was time to pick him up I was taken back on how AWESOME he looked. She did an amazing job. He was in good spirits when I picked him up. I was very happy. (because sometimes I can be a bit anal when getting things done right). Since then I have moved to Livermore. I will say that I am not even going to waste my time trying to find someone here. Forget it. I am coming back here. And the other great thing is that their pricing was sweet. For a dog my size, he would cost 100-125 in the bay area....I paid 50$.....that was a blessing and I was so happy with the job Sam did I gave her 15$ tip...well deserved. They also board there and I intend to take Kodi there as well....All the dogs seemed so HAPPY.....like me with Top Notch Kennels :) read more

Our Corgi loves to spend a couple nights at Top Notch. Everyone there is friendly and helpful and they really love dogs. They can also give your dog a bath and a cut. We sign our Corgi up for group play with other dogs and he comes home happy and tired! read more

Just picked up my puppy from her first day care visit at Top Notch! She's a 16 week old Australian Cattle Dog (lots of energy) she fell asleep in the car on the way home!!!! If you are a working professional their day care is a MUST USE service and for only $20 she's taken care of and socializing with other dogs from 8am-6pm. I had the most productive day I've ever had since I got her and now that I'm home she's already out cold asleep. I plan on making Top Notch a weekly if not multi-weekly routine. My husband and I dropped off our two dogs there this past weekend. They stayed at Top Notch for 5 days. We have had some bad experiences with kennels in the past. Our yellow lab got an eye infection at one, and looked really sad when we picked her up from another. Upon dropping them off we were greeted by a few dogs that were having fun in the out door play areas. I felt instantly comfortable leaving my babies there. Everything looked clean and the staff was very kind and genuine. When we picked up our dogs, after a 5 day vacation, they were clean and happy. When we brought them home we could tell they must have had all of the playtime that we paid for because they seemed very tuckered out :) . We paid for extra group play time and to have them groomed on the last day. They did an excellent job grooming them as well. This place was a little pricey but well worth it! We did get a slight discount for having them stay in the same suite together. I would recommend this place over and over again. read more

I was referred to Top Notch by my sister and her family. All in all it's been a good puppy training experience. I took my toy poodle/schnauzer mix puppy to the Level 1 Clever Dog class. As a first time dog owner I have no idea what I'm doing, so of course he is very spoiled. I hold him a lot because he is small, and I like that relationship with him, but I suspect there are some things that I'm doing that are not helping my training situation. I feel frustrated by the fact that he barks so much when I take him to class and although the trainers have been able to help some with this it doesn't seem to stick. Additionally with all the treat training my puppy will not eat his regular meals now; preferring the treats instead. Lisa, Rebecca and Scarlett have been teaching the class and seem pretty knowledgeable; but what do I know, I have nothing to compare them to. $185 is a lot of money to spend on training your dog, and I think I was expecting more although, I'm not sure what that "more" is. We have been training at the facility on Culepepper and it's nice and well maintained. We have also been given coupons for a free evaluation and play date as well as a pedicure. I did notice that my puppy has to be 12 months or older and that he has to be neutered in order to receive his free evaluation/play day, so I hope these coupons don't expire anytime soon as he is only 6 months! read more
