Immediately went to this place as i was craving for Japanese food after my hair appointment in the same area. I made it 10 mins before 7pm and was able to still order from the happy hour menu. The prices are good for happy hour! I ordered a miso soup, spicy tuna hand roll and baked mussels. I wish i could have taken photos of the food but i was so hungry that i didn't even think about it. The miso soup was good sized - tons if soring onions and mushrooms and the flavor is so good! The hand roll was yummy as well. The baked mussels were amazing and it came as 4 pieces. I came here with my daughter for dinner on Sunday evening. Whoever designed this restaurant did a very poor job. Basically, when you walk in, and there's an aquarium or wall, and then behind that there is a bar. Then the restaurant is one large room with a sushi bar in the back. The food portions were mediocre, and the prices on sushi were a little on the expensive side. During their happy hour, the specialty rolls are 30 % off. Everything else is regular price. My dining experience here was awful. There was a 6-top sitting near back of the restaurant. They were very loud, making heckling and cackling noises, the hollering and the screaming from that table - so loud it was difficult to hear my daughter (or the waiter) who was across the table from me. When the waiter, Nate, came to the table, I asked him to check into the situation for me, and his response was, "well, it's restaurant, whatever..." I continued to eat my food and the noises that came from that other table near the back was even louder than it was before. I saw the other's diner's faces at the tables nearby and they all looked annoyed. I flagged down a restaurant manager and I expressed how unpleasant it was to continually hear very loud heckling and cackling noises. He said, "Ok" and walked away. Twenty minutes later, a lady walked by and she said her name was Hanna, and she was the manager. I expressed how disturbing the noises that were coming from the back of the restaurant and she said, "Ok." I told her I wanted my check and she walked away. Finally, fed up while waiting for my check and my waiter had not come back since I spoke him about the very noises (hollering, screaming, yelling, heckling, cackling), another waiter came by and asked if I wanted to order something else. Twenty minutes later, Nate, the original waiter came back, with my check and his explanation was, "I have more important customers than you." I paid and left. I have not been to a restaurant like this in a very long time. We went to another sushi restaurant down the street. There are plenty of other sushi restaurants around Houston that care about their customers. The service was ridiculous and don't let the happy hour prices lure you into a place that doesn't care about your business. read more

Sunday happy hour menu got us. $5 wine who wouldn't want to try this establishment! Tried the egg rolls, carb puffs, gyoza and shrimp sushi piece. Egg rolls tasted fried and nothing special. Gyoza were good, but not anything I would order again. Shrimp sushi was interesting. Rice that was falling apart and an overcooked shrimp. Miso soup was just ok. Also order the chicken udon noodles. Vegetables were super firm and hard, noodles were over cooked and chicken was flavorless. Not even sure why we ate it because it didn't even taste like anything and lacked flavor. Service was amazing, server was polite and attentive. Atmosphere was small and quaint. When you walk in there is a fish tank and a foul smell, but we looked beyond the smell. Narrow and long space in a strip center with neon lights, decals of trees silhouettes on the wall and black lacquer chandeliers. Service was very good, but the sushi was mediocre at best and consistently small portions. I ordered the chirashi bowl, which is a bowl of white rice and sashimi laid over it. Although it came out with pretty presentation, there were maybe 6 small slivers of fish in the bowl. Everything we ordered followed a similar pattern. Pretty presentation, but small portions. Maybe that's why the happy hour is a winner? While we were there, another customer had a long tirade with his waiter and then manager about never coming back after something went wrong with his food. Apps. - started with appetizers: fried soft shell crab and crab puffs. Both were a miss for myself and husband but kept us appeased as we waited for the main food. Going out for sushi started with BFF being somewhat weirded out by discovering I eat the very crispy skin from when I've pan-fried salmon. I'm like you've never had salmon skin sushi? We have to do it. Researching found Top Sushi reasonably close to us and with a very nice looking menu that hopefully leaned towards being authentically Japanese in the way it was prepared. We walked in around 15 minutes before the end of Happy Hour. It wasn't our intent to hit HH but we were happy the waiter was happy to toss the HH menus at us. Which we started to order tons of stuff off of, and then continued ordering stuff after HH was over but man I guess we were hungry and sushi sounded really good. Here we go, the good and the bad. Things came out fast and some things came out lukewarm. Indicates things already made in the kitchen and tossed in the microwave to be heated? I waffled over the agedashi tofu cause I was afraid I'd have a gluten reaction. Turns out I didn't, but. You know the whole point of agedashi tofu is the bonito flakes waving at you and they wave from the piping hot broth? They didn't wave cause they were powdered not flaked and the broth was lukewarm, this was a disappointment. Beef rolls were hot but the beef was kind of dry and tough and the fillings were kind of soft and overcooked. Another disappointment. The shining star was the sushi. I got the tempting garlicky tuna roll and it was excellent. As was another roll that they modified to suit me. I wanted something no tempura no crunchies but with crawfish and boy did they deliver, it was delicious, crab filling and spicy sriracha drizzled over. Four stars easily for making a custom roll for me. Also got a handful of nigiri, tuna, masago, couple others. Then I got some miso soup which was a bowl so packed full of seaweed and mushrooms, it barely left any room for the liquid. People, if you do anything, look up a classic recipe for miso soup and learn to make it? Please? At least this one was hot but another disappointment. By this time I was stuffed and we were anti-fighting over the last couple pieces of sushi - you eat it, no you eat it. But BFF decided he still wanted "dinner" after all that and he ordered the seared scallops. I wouldn't have ordered scallops here, teriyaki chicken, teriyaki beef, tempura shrimp sure, but not scallops. This dish took a while to come out, was lukewarm again and I thought it was meh. Extremely meh. How can I forget the entire point of us having sushi? The salmon skin hand roll which BFF wouldn't touch cause he already has decided salmon skin is too weird to eat (but what about all those lovely omegas? I query). So I ate it and I think they took the salmon skin part too literally? There were strips of very crispy salmon skin in it. It was good but dude that's not how it's made, there's supposed to be a strip of the salmon flesh with the skin attached. Like you fried a piece of salmon and took a slice of that and made a hand roll. Odd in the interpretation. So trial and error to find what was good, definitely would come back for a lot of sushi washed down with a couple bottles sake. read more

I ordered the Big Boy Country (cooked). It had fried chicken, cream cheese, avocado, crunchies (topped), eel sauce, and Japanese mayo. Let me tell you, that sucka was good! I'm not into one piece sushi options for like avocado, seaweed, etc. I feel like they should be sushi rolls and cut into pieces. One of the rare sushi places that charge a dollar for each unagi sauce you order. Starting with the appetizers: - Monkey Brain: very odd name but I'm glad I tried it! It's different! Though, I tasted a lot more of the texture and taste itself of the raw tuna than the crab or cream cheese or anything described on the menu. - Miso soup: tofu, mushrooms, cilantro are all omnipresent. A little too salty. - Crab Puffs: they were okay. No further noticeable comment. My friend order a roll. I order the Chicken Katsu. The Katsu sauce spread over the fried chicken was too much. It made the chicken too salty. On another note, they have TV's, showing different channels, which is quite distracting. They also have a full alcohol bar.
