While I'm not the beer drinker in the family, when Dear Hubby and I go out and he orders a beer, I will often take a sip if he's trying something new, or expresses that he likes the brew. In this case, he went for a sampler when we were dining at Shooby's. The four options he chose were on the light side, with a hint of fruity flavors. There was only one that I really cared for - which made me long for the good old days of pizza and beer. One was too bitter for me, and the other two didn't really make much of an impression. DH did better - he enjoyed 3 of the 4. He said that none of them was a huge standout, but he appreciated that they had such a variety of choices available. Apparently, there's not much in the way of inexpensive drinking these days. The four samplers came up to a whopping $16, before tax and tip. Whew! I think the concept of having Shooby's (burgers & chicken), Rori's (artisanal ice cream), and Topa Topa Brewing Company all under one roof in Old Town Camarillo is quite brilliant. The Mark Food Hall gives family-friendly vibes and is incredibly spacious with both indoor and outdoor seating. I went with about 20 other colleagues for a happy hour and there was sufficient space for all of us inside. I opted for a Taster ($4) of the KQ Express, a rice lager with notes of lime, lychee, and jasmine. I had never had a rice lager before but the bartender was quite friendly and asked if I wanted to sample it first. I thought it tasted pretty good -- smooth, clean, crisp, and slightly tart. A pretty refreshing drink overall. I uploaded a snippet of Topa Topa's calendar of events (from their website), which has a lot of super helpful information! For instance, I didn't realize that KQ Express was limited release, so I'm glad I got to try it when I did. They also host trivia on Thursday nights and they'll have live music / DJs playing every now and then. Glad there's a place like this in Camarillo! read more

My biggest grievance is that there isn't a location near my house lol. My friend invited me for a collaboration with the city. We parked in a lot nearby and walked over. Location, it is a busy area. It's a huge location though. They have seating inside, an adjacent patio and a patio on the street. Good rustic feel to it. We ordered the Tux Milk Stout. Delicious. Came back to bump this spot up a star. The merchandise area has improved and there was much more of a selection this time around! I love their clothing and I bought one of their shirts a few years back and it continues to be one of my favorites. Super comfortable and durable. The beer selection here definitely rocks and there is always something new to try. I love that some of their beers are more fruit forward but they have the classics for those that don't love that. I just find for myself there are more beers I'm willing to try as they have fun ingredients and always taste really refreshing. The staff when I came yesterday continue to be as nice as ever. ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I've been to plenty of breweries, and this was by far the worst experience I've ever had. From the moment our group arrived, the staff acted like we were an inconvenience instead of customers. The attitude alone should've been the first red flag. We asked for a heater because our entire group was seated outside in the cold. Instead of a simple explanation or any attempt to help, we were brushed off with a rude "we don't have any," even though multiple heaters were clearly visible right next to us. No effort to move us, accommodate us, or even speak to us with basic courtesy. The situation got worse when one of my coworkers -- who RARELY drinks -- bought canned beer directly from their establishment. While he was peacefully sipping it, an employee with short curly hair came over aggressively, snatched the can right out of his hand without warning, and took off with the rest of the cans as if we were blatantly breaking the law. No explanation up front. No respectful conversation. Just pure hostility and a power trip. When we asked for clarification, the staff doubled down and acted like we should've already known the "rules." They insisted there were signs everywhere, yet couldn't point to a single one other than a generic "No outside alcohol" sign -- which didn't even apply because we purchased the alcohol there. Instead of admitting the mistake or apologizing, they continued talking down to us like we were the problem. As someone who has worked in customer service, I was shocked. Good customer service isn't just about knowing policies -- it's about how you speak to people. The lack of professionalism, the dismissive tone, and the eagerness to escalate a completely harmless situation made it clear they have no idea how to interact with customers. The whole interaction felt hostile, disrespectful, and borderline discriminatory. After this experience, there is no chance I'll be returning. If you value being treated like a human being, do yourself a favor and skip this place. Plenty of breweries actually appreciate their customers -- this one clearly doesn't. read more

ZERO STARS!!! I came with a large group, and unfortunately the brewery side was a major letdown. The ambiance was already not great, and when we asked for a heater (since our whole party was seated outside), we were told they didn't have any -- even though we could clearly see multiple heaters right there. The service was genuinely awful. A coworker of mine, who rarely drinks, bought canned beer from the establishment itself. While he was drinking it, an employee with short curly hair came over on a complete power trip, snatched the beer out of his hand, and took off with all of the cans as if we were intentionally trying to break a rule. It's about the beer. The beer here is very good, offering many styles and several on nitro. Some of the beers I liked, some I did not. That said, variety is the spice of life and as they have a variety of beers, this place is spicy. The bar staff is friendly, and more importantly patient as patrons ask for suggestions or descriptions on said varieties. This is a great place to come on a sunny day. There's outdoor seating and an indoor space. And the shared dining hall area with a pizzeria (I need to find the name) and Rori's Ice Cream only adds to the experience. read more

Topa Topa has become my favorite brewery in town to kick back and enjoy a chill evening with friends. It's small: only a bar with a couple tables, but the rest of the seating in The Mark is quite spacious, and includes an outdoor seating area. One of the things I like best is how chill it is; there's a distinct lack of that deafening background noise that is often present in this type of establishments. Now, as for their brews: I have liked everything I have tried, but the one that I keep coming back for is the Tux; it's a super-rich milk stout, with a taste and mouth-feel so distinct and delicious that it feels like dessert in a glass. The staff has been super friendly every time I go here, and they are happy to recommend a drink for the indecisive. They also have crowlers and growlers! Now, my favorite part about this place is that it shares a room with two other fine establishments: Freda's pizza and Rori's ice cream. My husband and I are definitely craft beer enthusiasts and enjoyed Topa Topa when we lived in Santa Barbara so we were so happy to have found this location! What a great spot to put this brewery next to an artisan pizza restaurant and artisan ice cream, hello date night? There's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating that's well decorated and sometimes even a live band. One note I have would be for Topa Topa to host some events (bingo, comedy night, trivia, book clubs, even yoga!, etc.) as I've seen at their other locations and this would be a perfect place for young professionals in Camarillo to meet up! While we were there we tried a flight with the KQ express, moo bae, Gadabout and Rose it ain't so. I try to visit new places when I'm in town. I was in the 805 a while back and needed to find a spot to meet a friend for a drink before I needed to go back to L.A. Since Camarillo was on my way back, she suggested I find a brewery in the area. She picked this spot after I sent her a list. I had no idea Topa Topa even had a brick and mortar in Cam. I've been to the one in Ojai and Ventura numerous times. My friend got held back so I decided to get a drink while I waited for her. Shockingly, there were other spots there - I was under the impression it would just be the brewery. There's a food spot and a dessert spot. This little food hall is one of the best things to happen to Camarillo. I started off with the stout - truly a delight and my personal favorite. I was halfway done by the time my friend made it. She decided to catch uo by getting a flight. Unlike other places where the flight is pre-selected for you, here you get to pick the drinks. Per my friend m, her personal favorite was the saisan. I ended up getting it as my second drink. Can't wait to come back and try the new options. On a personal note, I just want to say thanks for supporting the AAPI community. read more

My FAVORITE brewing company in Ventura County. If you can't find me here, you can find me at another Topa Topa establishment...most likely the Ventura one which is gorgeous. This spot used to be my checkpoint to finish any biological survey reports before I headed home. Now it's my go-to spot whenever I need a beer during my two hour lunches on Thursdays. I can't really offer beer recommendations since beer is an acquired taste to every individual. Not everyone likes heavy dark beers or light beers that some think tastes like pee. With that said, I will share my favorites and perhaps it can be part of your beer flight when you try this place out. My top Topa Topa beer is hands down the Spectro Hazy IPA. I love the fruity hints to the IPA. I have definitely had batches (from cans) that lack that fruity notes so this beer is best from the tap. The Sespe Pilsner is my next go-to (when it is in season). The Light Hike Kolsch and the Dos Topas lager are tied for 3rd place in my extremely subjective review of their beers. And lastly the KQ Express rice lager. That one has been on and off depending on my mood. I tried the Patagonia Provisions Perennial test beer "Kernza Lager" this time around. Patagonia was looking to collab for a new beer that goes with their environmentally friendly beer cans. This lager was not shabby but not my cup of beer. Hooray for Topa! I love visiting to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful views and warm sun while sipping a Tux Stout. This is my favorite beer on tap and it SLAPS on Nitro. Their variety of beers is very diverse, and I'd say they virtually have something for everyone. I believe they have a rotating seltzer as well but have yet to try it. Service is always friendly and the vibe is... vibin'. A treat for my husband and I is popping over to enjoy the Friday night classic car cruise held monthly in Old Town. Patio is dog-friendly as long as your dog is patio-friendly. There additionally is an outside tap-area that helps alleviate long lines and crowding during busy times. I really enjoy coming here. Not bad for moderately sized groups (3-6 people), however finding a table on a nice day might require some patience. But all good things are worth the wait. read more

That being said, the location in Camarillo never seems to meet the mark, and most recently; The girl beer tenders were honestly not welcoming at all and simply walked away when I said thank you.
