Came on a Sunday , and to a surprise they have happy hour everyday. We had a big group , 16. We had our own private table, conveniently! Everyone was happy with their drinks or beers. I got a dirty martini , not bad for happy hour. $10. I'll stick with draft pours next time. All enjoyed their meals. Service was great. The waitress was OK with multiple separate checks. Bathrooms were clean. Overall very good. Would definitely return.

    Twisted Oak Burger: medium rare

Twisted Oak is in Old Town Camarillo in a historic building that used to house a long established, local department store that dominated the commercial scene just like Webb's Department Store in downtown Glendale which for decades kept out major department stores until finally J.W. Robinson managed to slip in. Inside is cavernous with padded booths, long, communal Stamtisch, standard tables & chairs, long bar seating which is dominated by wide screen TV's spouting out sports programming. It's a stereotypical Gastropub with standard New American grub of the first quarter of the 21st century. Jona was our friendly, laid back waiter who would check on us for any other thing needed and could give us separate checks, no problem. 1) Roasted Brussels Sprouts: Blackened Sprouts were tough, fibrous, hard. My sharp knife could barely cut through unless I bore down hard. The high oven heat blackened the outer leaves, but left the inside almost uncooked. Strangely acidic with a bit of funky earthiness. Sweet diced sweet dates, bacony Pancetta, topped with slivered almonds. Bit of chile piquancy. Perhaps sautéing the Brussels Sprouts would cook the sprouts more evenly and thoroughly to soften the toughness and still leave it al dente. A more mild Japanese vinegar would give a cleaner, purer finish. 2) Twisted Oak Burger: Shiny, golden brown Brioche buns. Crisscrossed bacon strips that weren't overcooked to a brittle hardness. Requested Medium rare beef; patty was a dusky rose. Onions sautéed with beer; arrugula was missing in action. Blue cheese was timidly faint. Garlic Aïoli (ah ee oh lee) saved this burger from blandness. I added on Avocado for more healthful oils. Ordered the French fries crispy. They were, but not exceptionally impressive. 1-2a) Oso Rojo: Amber beer, toasty, acidic, softly sweet, refreshingly bitter, burnt grain, bit soapy. 3) Donut Bread Pudding: Rum Donuts, Bourbon caramel sauce, dusting of crushed walnuts, vanilla ice cream à la mode, couldn't find the chocolate chips. Comforting, starchy, sweet dessert. Except for the salads, the food here seems to cater to those who do not like veggies. The food leans toward high carb, sugar, fats, meat. After eating here I felt heavy, overly full, dull, and lethargic with even a touch of heartburn. Prices are very comparable to what is found in high priced Los Ángeles. 3 stars

What a nice find that I don't think I would've found without Yelp, but we were trying to find a dog friendly place with a good happy hour, and luckily we stumbled onto Twisted Oak! With a wide variety of deals but the French dip sandwich really sold it for me and a nice selection of beers, crispy fries, comforting beef and a not too salty au jus made this place come to life (along with the live music). Excited to be in the 805 community and discover local spots to set up roots (get it like Twisted Oak is a tree.....roots?) I'll see myself out until the next one!

Our new favorite spot! We love the food, the burgers are the best. The staff help eachother out. I loved seeing that.

3.4 stars- I want to be fair - CSUCI Grad weekend :/ Very slow service. It took such a long time to just get to order our food then to get the food .. all together over two hours. I understand, I get it sometimes people call out but this was bad. Very bad. It's a big restaurant and it was not packed from what I could see. They had live music ! A plus! I just felt like they kept saying sorry but didn't truly care because they'd say ... "We have a few graduations." Then forget about us. We should've left as we weren't really tended to. We were so patient. After all the waiting they wanted to charge $1 per person to cut the cake brought for our grad. Our own plates and utensils were brought. We didn't need staff to cut it as a Bundt and pretty easy to do by us. It's a cool place, very spacious with tons of seating but definitely understaffed. It is locally owned , so I do not want to be too rough with my review. Food was ok. I just had nachos and two beers. The beers were super cold which is a plus. My friends liked their meals. I'd return in the future and update my review if I have a better experience :) An automatic 18% gratuity is added despite the level of service for large groups. Please be aware and understand that service charge.

This was great. We were contemplating on dinner and this came up. It was great they had good drink selection and good service. It wasn't busy very much. One of the 2 flaws is how long the wait for food was. We didn't wait too long but it was fine. The second is no kids menu. Our family was struggling to find an option for our picky child. But overall food was amazing and I would come back!

A group of 14 looking for a spot to have a celebration dinner and conversation. Twisted Oak was the perfect spot. They held the back room for us - fairly private and fairly quiet. I ordered the mushroom flatbread ($16). My wife got the forager burger ($18.50). Both were delish! Despite being a large group, Julie, our server, got all the orders correct. Our water glasses were kept full. Service was excellent.

    Chimichurri Steak Sandwich

Our waiter was super sweet. It didn't seem super busy but the service was definitely slow. I'm going to be super honest but I was super disappointed with both sandwiches. They tasted so bland and they were lacking so much flavor. It sucks because i've heard good things and read the reviews before eating here. I would be willing to try again for happy hour. But for regular price sandwiches to be bland no thank you

My Fiance found this place on a trip up north. Glad we stopped by. That thick cut rueben sandwich was one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. Messy but really tasty. She got the PB and J burger and she really liked it. The flatbread was also good. Nice combination of flavors with the flatbread. Will deftly be back here if i am in the Oxnard area

First time here, and I must say I had a pretty good experience. I met up with friends for food and drinks. The dining area is large and spacious, with ample seating at the long bar. This particular night they had live music by way of a guitarist singing a wide variety of songs, classic to modern with a country to old rock take of each song. It wasn't too loud, the music was tasteful, and the ambiance was relaxing. The service was fast and friendly, with our waitress seemingly being one of our party whenever she arrived. She did a great job reading the table and the need. She was never interrupting but rather added to the conversation. The loaded nachos were filling, coating my stomach like your typical bar food. They were neither soggy nor greasy, but rather crunch and tasty. This place lost points on the weirdly flavored creme brûlée that had strawberry Nesquick powder on top. The powder was unnecessary and left an oddly synthetic strawberry flavor. Most importantly for a bar is their decent beer selection. I got a flight of beers to sample 4 of their wide selection. They have a few beers of each type from local breweries. Overall it was a good time with good buddies. Well that's this critic's review, until next time, I'll be eating.

I don't think there's a bad seat in the house, but we always love to sit outside so that we have a really good view of the aircraft coming and going. I tried the BLT and, oh my!!! One of the best I've had, with lots of thick cut bacon, very crisp, lots of lettuce, tomato and mayo (I ordered it as-is). Half was the size of a regular sandwich so the other half went home with me! RRR ordered the triple decker club on sourdough and loved his as well. Half of his went home also. We both got the cole slaw as our side which has a little pineapple in it. I found it ok, RRR really liked it. We shared a special milkshake, pistachio, and it was heavenly, highly recommended. Service was perfect, there when needed but not overbearing. We so appreciate well-trained staff! Highly recommended.

Dear Hubby and I have been to Waypoint Cafe a few times over the years. Because of how popular…read morethey are, it's not somewhere we try to go to on a weekend. Today we had to be out of the house due to Edison maintenance in your neighborhood. We were originally headed for Ojai, but we were hungry and didn't want to wait that long to get food. I suggested Waypoint since it was a weekday and hopefully wouldn't be that crowded. We hit them just before a lunch rush came along about 30 minutes later. it's probably been a while, but their ordering procedure has changed since the last time we were there. Now you enter, go to the host stand, and order and pay there. Then they give you a number for your order and a host takes you out to a table. It's a variation on fast casual. The idea is that they will start cooking your food as soon as you pay, and the process will flow smoothly from there. They have a lot of runners bringing out the food, and offering additional condiments or other things you might need, like more water or napkins. There are several reasons that I'm downgrading the rating from a previous visit. $18 for a plain Belgian waffle? No fruit, garnish, whipped cream, just melted butter and a very small amount of syrup. It looked more substantial because we added eggs and bacon for $3 more. The latter seems like a good deal, because the eggs were well prepared. Only two slices of bacon, though. DH and I split the plate. $21 for a plain waffle, scrambled eggs, and two pieces of bacon does seem excessive. We added a side of hash browns, which were plentiful, but were also oily. I don't remember having hash browns in another restaurant which were that greasy, so that was a fail. $9 for two cups of decaf coffee? That also seemed on the high side, especially when a tiny (and I do mean tiny!) addition of oat milk for creamer was $1.50. Really? And yet, they offered mini portions of hazelnut or French vanilla creamer for free. But we didn't know that ahead of time. A large glass of lukewarm pineapple juice was $6. I had to ask for a glass of ice cubes to be able to chill the juice down to where it tasted good. By the way, the waffle was slightly overcooked for my preference, making it more crunchy than I enjoy. Overall, it was $50 for a breakfast that DH and I split, just adding the hash browns and juice to stretch the meal. Service was good. It was the kitchen that let down the team. Also, ambiance-wise, the airport has added a large row of hangars to the northwest of the restaurant, which dramatically cuts down the view of the planes taking off and landing. That's actually another fail for the appeal of dining here. It's likely going to be a while before we return. Sad to report today's experience, but that's what it turned out to be - not the lovely little secret getaway of the past.

We came here to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday. We each ordered a cocktail. She got a blueberry margarita and I got a cucumber gin mixed drink. Both were refreshing and delicious. It also came with thick cuts of bacon. Definitely recommend this. For the tartare, it was also delicious and fresh. It was mixed with avocado and turnip. We thought the turnip would be off putting but it actually meshed well with the flavors. Came with fried wonton chips. For the main course we shared the NY strip and Lobster Malfaldine. The steak was cooked to perfection with a very nice sear and flavored well. Probably one of the better steaks I've ever had. Definitely beats out any steakhouse steak. The Lobster Malfaldine was also absolutely delicious. Most of the time, lobster pasta is usually a bit bland and lacking in lobster. NOT HERE.
