This was my second/first time visiting. The first time I arrived I had to make an appointment plus pay a fee which I was told the money would go towards my appointment. (That was a bit off putting but I did it anyway because I felt a bit pressure to do so). I was seated right away and offered a beverage. I wasn't given a menu of options to select type of service I wanted nor did I know what type of service that I would be receiving. (Again, that was not proper and I should have been asked) Top Coat is clean enough with nice music playing in the background but I would have preferred something more relaxing for my pedicure to help me relax. I'm not really into pop, hip hop, etc. When I come to the nail salon this is the time to get pampered and relax. I did however enjoy my pedicure even though it wasn't as relaxing as I would have liked. I sent a request to schedule an appointment on Yelp and received a response within a few minutes. I scheduled my pedicure for 2 days out and was able to get my requested time of 4:00pm. There was no wait time when I arrived. This place is the epitome of good customer service. I was offered something to drink (multiple times) and cellphone charging (if I needed it). The shop is very modern and clean and I was glad to see the big, comfortable benches for the pedicures, as opposed to the chairs. At some places, the chairs aren't big enough for my height. There was a vast selection of pedicures to choose from and it was tough making a decision lol. I went with the Orange Mango (I think that's the name). It was niiiiice and fresh oranges were placed in the water. Also worth mentioning is that the foot tubs are huge! The lady that did my pedicure did an excellent job and I was very impressed. The price point was a tad bit higher than other options in the area, but I feel it was well worth it. I'm looking forward to returning! read more

I use to live around Top coat so I was so excited when it first opened! They are great! Always love me nails when I go there but it's getting harder and harder to get in so I have finally given up and just go to another salon near by. I try to make appointments like 1-2 weeks out with no luck. It's hard to get something so if I don't have enough notice then I don't even bother and go somewhere else. So they are great but just so hard to get in. I'm sure you will be happy with your finally results when you leave there but always have a plan B in case they can't get you in. read more

I was taken early, although I was 20 minutes early and was greeted promptly and offered a beverage. I was also asked mid-service if I needed a refill. I am a gel manicure girl and this was my 1st time trying dip. The owner answered my every question and even had my go to nail color, so I tried it in dip. I am pleasantly pleased at the durability and look of my nails. My pedicure was amazing! The pedicure stations are raised a bit and the chairs are gorgeous and super comfy. I think this was the best pedicure that I received, in my whole life. I did not have to go behind the staff and reshape. The whole ambiance of music and the vibe of the staff provided a great, relaxing experience. At first, I thought the staff was being super nice to me, because I was a new customer, but I noticed that the staff treated everyone super nice. Ample polish selection and even had Chanel polish. Note to self: If you have unforeseen circumstances and provide advance notice to reschedule a preexisting appointment and you are not Caucasian, do not go to TopCoat Nail Bar. You will be charged a prepayment fee. It apparently is a major inconvenience for their business that your life doesn't revolve around them. I visited this business twice, enjoyed the pedicures. The dip service wasn't the best but was willing to give them repeated attempts until I was told prepayment is needed to reschedule because I had to reschedule an appointment within one week of it's original appointment due to unforeseen circumstances and had an emergency come up and needed to reschedule again. If THIS is how you think you will retain customers, you will be sadly mistaken. The accommodations made for some and not all is a clear indication of a business I do not want to support and you should think twice about patronizing. read more

I love this nail salon!! I had been looking forward to trying this salon since they day they put up the "coming soon" sign. I finally got the chance to stop in about two weeks after they opened. I walked in around 4:00 PM on a Thursday afternoon and to my surprise they were already very busy. I ended up making an appointment to come back later that evening for a gel polish change. When I came back I was greeted immediately by Bibo, the owner, who is super friendly! He offered me my choice of water, wine or tea - I went with a cup of Oolong Tea. As I waited for my gel polish to soak off, I looked through their extensive selection of gel colors. I noticed that they have a great selection of regular colors as well. My polish change came out great and it lasted for two and a half weeks! I went back last Friday and had another great experience. Bibo and his team at Basecoat are wonderful. You can tell they really pride themselves on excellent customer service. I will definitely be back in a few weeks! read more

Cute little nail salon that is literally 2 minutes from my house. They just opened and already have such a long wait- in a good way! I came in as a walk-in on a Saturday right before Mother's Day for a pedicure and had to schedule a service for 3pm the same day. I'm glad I did because I loved the service, hospitality, and options available. Everyone was super nice. I don't usually write reviews but decided to write this one bc the experience left that much of an impact on me. A few wks ago I visited this salon for the 3rd time. My 2 prior experiences were great but this one was horrible! I arrived for my appointment for a gel manicure, pedicure, and eyebrow wax. I told the gentleman Tao this when he asked what I was getting. Shortly after, the nail tech walked up and I again told her what I was getting and she immediately stated that I should get dip. I said ok. I sat down as she went to get the colors so that I could choose one. The next thing I knew, Tao came storming over aggressively yelling at me stating "you have to get what you booked! We don't have time to do dip!" I could barely respond, bc I was shocked, but I told him that the tech told me to get it. He didn't apologize at all, but walked away telling the nail tech doing my nails "you only have an hour." He repeated that to her multiple times throughout my appointment. After this, I considered walking out but got the services because I was already there, but I could not enjoy what was a ruined experience even though the lady that did my nails was very nice and tried to make up for what I had experienced. I spoke with the owner at the end of my appointment, who did not charge me the additional price for the dip & stated that he would speak with his employee. Tao was so rude and nasty and did not care at all that he was completely IN THE WRONG. He never apologized. I spent almost $100 that day and that is not the service that anyone should ever receive at an establishment, especially as a paying customer! This was one of the worst experiences that I have had at an establishment and it left a horrible taste in my mouth. I truly hope the owner did speak with Tao because he will cause him to lose more business in the future if not. read more

This place is so cute yes, but overly overly priced. I made an appointment for a manicure and pedicure. They were super busy and didn't have a receptionist, lucky me, the lady doing my manicure had to play the part. So my manicure was constantly interrupted and my hands were left sitting in cold water. A lady came in and stated she had an appointment, she was told they didn't have her appointment, and she was turned away. I thought, wow that sucks, glad that didn't happen to me. But it did. Once I was done with my manicure I was waiting to get my pedicure and she asks me if I made an appointment for a pedicure, I told her yes my appointment was for manicure and pedicure. Well, they didn't have me down for a pedicure so I was turned away for the rest of my services, the day before vacation. I asked if I could just get a toe polish change, and she said yes. I had no gel on my nails prior to coming here so for a sub par gel manicure and a toe polish, my total was $55. Also, my appointment was a 9am on a Thursday morning. So if you do decide to try this place, make sure you make an appointment, and triple check they have the appropriate services notated. read more

Top coat was great, until they were not. I was getting my nails done for a wedding weekend and I asked for a color of dip. Mind you, my appt started almost 25 minutes late. Soon after he finished dipping my nails, I realized it was not the color I had asked for. Yes, I should've intervened earlier but to my knowledge I wanted to see if there was maybe a top coat that was going to be put on. The color was clearly wrong which upset me because I asked for it to be changed since it is for a wedding. I was given major attitude and was told that they are on a schedule, which i do totally understand. I told him i would come back if he couldn't fix it. He kept going on and on about why it bothered him and why it was a problem. This was very upsetting to me because I have had nothing but good experiences there and now I don't know if ill go back. I felt very disrespected because I am the one paying for it and just wanted to be happy with the outcome! I think the situation could've been handled much differently. They do have great customer service but I was just very disappointed that he had an attitude with me when I even told him i could come back at a later time if he couldn't fix it right now. So this was second experience with topcoat, my first experience was amazing, I got the orange mango pedicure about a week and a half ago and they did a wonderful job. I decided to let them have a chance to dip my nails as well when I normally go to another place on the West Bank. I personally like my dip thin, and I have a certain expectation of how they should be done and look more so if I'm going to spend $17 more dollars then I normally would at the place I normally go too. Well the guy doing them, I'm unsure of his name started to do them very thick, I told him from the beginning I like them very thin and I'm used to them looking almost like glass they are so perfect. Well I asked him to thin them out and he did, but they weren't even. Some spots are thicker then others, it's not smooth at all also the towel touched my hand when he moved it and dust particles got in the nail. He seen it and just kind of pushed it off and added another coat of clear which didn't fix it. The guy left and didn't come back, and the cashier checked me out. I didn't say anything because I really don't like to complain but once I got home my mom seen them and called and complained. She asked if we can just get a store credit since we love their pedicures but they said no to come get my money. Well when I went back I showed him the swirls and dust and how uneven it was and I was told "Well you should've said something before you left and not have your mother call and fuss at me." I told them I don't like to complain and get people in trouble but my mother was very disappointed in how terrible the nails came out. He then told me "Since we can't make you happy go back to the place on the West Bank and we can no longer offer you any services since you can't be happy." I took my money and left. That is not how you treat a customer, more so when I loved the first experience and didn't think the second was up to par.
