Awful! General Tso chicken was dry and no flavor! Despite asking for extra spicy-no heat. The fried dumplings were fine.

This used to be a great place. Now it's kind of sad. The hot and sour I got last night was so salty it was inedible. They are obviously not tasting the food they are making. They have also resorted to using filler. The kung pao chicken was half vegetables. Who do they think they are fooling? And they used to make their own soup noodles. Nice and greasy as they should be. Now they are taking pre-made noodles and putting them in bags and trying to pass them off as homemade. The proof? The next day the bag is bone dry. Once again, who do they think they are fooling? To management: Raise the prices if you need more money. Don't go cheap on me. Next time I order, it better be right or it's my last time. read more

The sauce was not very tasty, the pork was dry and overcooked. The crab rangoon was acceptable considering it's colder than a witch's teat outside yet it showed still warm. I believe this is the best Chinese take out in Arlington, and I have tried many. The quality of the food is good, the sauces are spot on, and the preparation is quick. I consider myself a connoisseur of General Tso's chicken, and Top's has the best version of it I've had in this region (the best being in Lexington, VA). I can also heartily recommend their pork dumplings, fried or steamed. For vegetarians, they offer mock meat for most of their dishes. It is located underneath a strip center off Columbia Pike, and can't be seen from the road. Luckily they have speedy deliver all around the area. The lady that runs/owns Top's is very friendly and often remembers regulars. The prices are also very reasonable, cheap in many cases. Ummm, OK. So after receiving this flyer on our door, we thought we'd give it a try. When I gave my address, the first thing the lady said was "we don't deliver to Alexandria." Keep in mind, I live right on the border of Arlington, and somehow you delivered to my neighbor because you had flyers everywhere! So she took that back. Delivery took almost 2 hours. 2 hours for Chinese food that's 10 minutes away, really? The first thing the delivery man asked when we opened the door was "how much are you going to tip?" OK sir, not one penny because you took 2 hours to deliver our food. Then he had no explanation of why he was so late. If that wasn't bad enough, he accused us of not paying, and had some drawn out fight with the Chinese lady at the restaurant while we were sitting right there. Here's the kicker. After all that, he had the audacity to loudly and disgustingly fart not once, but twice! So you're going to be hours late with my food, ask for a tip right away, accuse me of not paying, and then fart outside my door on top of that?! What an experience. And the food was slimy and not even that good. We will not be ordering from here again. read more

We just ordered Hunan Beef, southwest chicken, and mooshu shrimp around 7pm on a Friday night. Our food didn't get delivered till 8:15 PM. I live less than a mile away from this place. We did the online ordering so we were a little worried around 7:30 that maybe our food order didn't get processed. We called around that time to check the status and the person that picked up said that the delivery guy was on the way. We were like okay...30 min later. Where is our food? We were all cranky and tired of waiting at that point. Called them back at 8 trying to cancel our order and she said oh he just left. There was a mix up with your food so we remade it for you guys. At that point we were fine we will wait another 10 min. He finally comes around 8:15, seemed like a nice guy when we asked him why did it take so long. He apologized for the long wait... Long story short, the food was actually pretty good. The mooshu shrimp was a little dry (needed more sauce) but still good. Save yourself a lot of time and do take out. DO NOT do delivery. My family and I have gotten food from here for years, we've tried different places and always come back to this one. The staff is so friendly and they've never given me attitude unlike other restaurants. I love the crab rangoon, i've tried it at buffets but its not the same as Top's China. It was a Sunday so I decided to order take out from this place. Food was descent but I would not order from them again unless I was desperate for food. However, the biggest issue I had with was when the delivery man drop off my order. He told me to my face, right when I was about to sign the tip to "give me a real tip." ARE YOU SERIOUS BUDDY????? I used to love this place. It hurts me to do this but I'm knocking my review down to three stars. They are still relatively polite, efficient and prompt but they must have someone new in the kitchen because the General Tsao's Chicken which used to be good is now pretty awful, to be frank. We've gotten it four or five times over the past few months and it has been inedible twice and mediocre the other times. As in, I have pretty low standards for chinese takeout and I couldn't even eat this stuff... The beef skewers used to be a little too well done but nicely flavored and we ordered them often...now they are more like shoe leather. Our go-to lo mein is also not quite as good as it used to be, though the Kung Pao chicken is still decent. I watched Searching for General Tso on Netflix so I of course needed to order some GT chicken, stat. I ordered two entrees - General Tso's and Eggplant in Garlic Sauce. I used the Eat app and delivered to my house in under an hour. Total prices was $19, and I got maybe 6 portions out of it all, which is a bargain. It's cheap, but man will you pay in other ways. Both containers had a thick layover of oil covering the top. I swear the oil got worse as the days went on and the sauces continued to separate and I kept skimming it off. The previous poster is right - Chinese takeout is a hit or a miss... this was a miss for me. Perhaps it was what I ordered - but ordering wonton soup and sesame chicken are my litmus tests for chinese takeout. The wonton soup is more like a miso soup with pork dumplings thrown in. Murky broth, under cooked noodles - I wasn't impressed. Then I tried the sesame chicken. The chicken was cooked to perfection, but the sesame sauce was entirely too heavy and too sweet (it had started to form a shell around each nugget of chicken). You really got your money's worth of meat, since the dishes were primarily meat with few veggies. We also ordered a few egg rolls ($1) and some hot & sour soup ($1.35 for small). I will begin this review by saying my family and I have been ordering from this restaurant for about 20 years. In the past this was a favorite restaurant and we never had food complaints. Today 8/20/20 I experienced a very rude and inflexible person on the phone. I tried to place my order of 3 or more items with extra chicken and additional cost and also mentioned a coupon I had for a free general tso's chicken. The woman nearly accused me of using someone else's menu with coupon and talked over me. She asked me to text the coupon and when I asked for the number she cut me off and said she wasn't honoring the coupon anyway. My mother told me to forget the order and later called back to complain and speak with management. Their coupons are attached to the menu and without an expiration. I still later got the number and text the coupon and let her know they had seen the last order from our family. This is the end of a 20 year relationship of business and customer in the trying times of a pandemic where restaurants are having to fold up and close. We will have to find a new restaurant. They've just added vegan "meat" dishes to the menu, tried the "beef" with broccoli and must say it was quite good. The vegan dishes are a little pricier than the normal menu items, but the potion was huge and the mushroom based "beef" had a great flavor and a good consistency; plus it lacked the one thing I always dislike about the meat in Chinese take-out - no fat!. I know I have only checked in here a few times, but to be fair, I get takeout from here 2-3 times a month and have been for years (since the late 1990s). I think I've tried most of the dishes on the menu, which has changed a few times, over the years and up until the vegan additions, my favorites have always been the shrimp with broccoli, the Schezwan chicken, the Singapore style noodles and the soups, with the occasional crab rangoon on the side. Next trip I think I'll try the vegan chicken dish. My guy usually orders one of three things: chicken lo-mien, chicken fried rice, or sweet and sour chicken; sometimes he strays, but not often. Absolute worst delivery service I've ever had. I ordered three things online and live less than a mile away. Estimated delivery time was 45-60 min but the food didn't show up for two hours. The delivery woman didn't speak English. When something was missing she told me to call the manager. The manager said she'd send the woman back and I'd have everything in ten minutes at the most.
