I have bought luggage and travel supplies here for many years. Today, my husband and I walked into the store and wandered around looking to see what's new in travel accessories. We walked through the store for over 10 minutes - tried on a hat and opened a suitcase. There were two young girls behind the counter. Neither of them said hello or asked if we needed any help - even when we were right at the counter. The store has lots of fun and helpful items but the service is nonexistent. Great, local luggage shop with a wide selection. I've only lived in the area for six years, but every time I've needed something for travel whether it was a new bag or an adapter for electronics, this store has come through every single time. I understand that people have their unique experiences, but I've never had anything other than great service. I don't recall anyone rushing to greet me, but at the same time I don't require that service. Every time I've walked up to the counter there was someone there who was patient and knowledgeable. Regardless of the amount of the purchase a staff person, or owner, spent as much time as necessary, so that I felt fully informed. That is what it means to be a local merchant. read more

I've stopped in this store 3-4 times over the past several years. Bought an $800 suitcase several months ago. The suitcase is excellent, store service not so much. Went back yesterday to get a matching carry-on for an upcoming trip. Looked at the carry-on and matching duffle for 5-10 minutes, no assistance, no acknowledgment, come to think of it, no employee visable in the store. I left and, while in the parking lot, ordered the carry-on directly from the manufacturer with no shipping and free personalization. No need to ever go back to this store. I tried to shop local, but too difficult and I don't feel my business is wanted. read more

I see so many of the positive reviews are not recent and perhaps COVID is to blame for the disappointment I experienced when I visited this store. I was in desperate search for a carry on suitcase and travel bag so to say I was a motivated buyer is an understatement! Not only was their selection very limited with no range of price points but what they had was lackluster and exorbitantly priced ! I generally prefer to write positive reviews but due to my utter disappointment in a store that promised to be outstanding I felt it warranted an honest commentary. I've been going to this store off and on for years (though I think they've turned over ownership). And I have to say, my experience today has turned me off of ever returning. I went to buy an item which was marked $39.99 (on the manufacture packaging). I went to check out and was told that the price was actually $49.99. I pointed to the price but was told that their price was $10 more. I was then told that there was a manufacturer increase and the price was wrong. But when I look at the manufacturer website, the price is what's listed on the item ($39.99). Not only do I not appreciate being lied to, but if you didn't mark your item correctly, that's not really my problem. And they should have honored the listed price (which I actually think is California law). Did not purchase the item, and won't be back. read more

April 12th 2019, Friday 5 PM. Snappy young girls work in this store. This employee was impolite and sassy mouthed. Most of their younger employees have never traveled outside of the US. I was sold the wrong connection adapter for Italy. This business states in a receipt that you cannot return anything after 7 days. Most people travel more then 7 days. So if you bought something you didn't use or were sold the wrong item you will not get your money back. A sign is not posted about their return policy and it was not mentioned at the time of purchase. We are new to the area. People have been very friendly on the Monterey Peninsula. Not in this business. This is why small store front business stores are closing in Carmel. We were trying to support local businesses. I love this store! Ok, so I was planning this big trip and was in need of new luggage, as my old luggage had a broken wheel and busted zipper. You see how dire the situation was. And I couldn't order online because I didn't have time to wait for shipping. A friend told me about Tops N Travel, so I figured it was worth a shot. I am so glad I listened!!! I was immediately greeted by Ariana, who was absolutely warm and welcoming. She helped me through every step, and turned something I viewed as a chore into a fun experience! She was very knowledgeable about their products and helped me to find the perfect set of luggage to suit my needs. I also ended up buying some extra things, because they have so much cool stuff in there! I will definitely be returning for all future travel needs. I highly recommend this place. Just left this store and I have to say I'm quite disappointed. As a local Monterey resident, I wanted to give my business to a local business instead of shopping online. After my experience here, it simply reaffirmed to me that it's a far better use of someone's time to look online. My husband and I are in the market for two high quality carry on bags and two personal item bags. We walked in (mind you, were not greeted and were not asked if we needed any assistance, which we were in need of) but immediately loved their selection of Briggs & Riley. We found four bags totaling about $1000, but were more excited that they were excellent quality and advertised as 20% off when you first walk in the door. After ringing up, we were told that sign was wrong and no longer applied. We told the worker she should take the sign down, she called her manager and said there was nothing she could do, and didn't remove the sign as we left. Now, even if I pay the same price or more I will be purchasing online out of principle. The business owner should realize if they advertise a price, they should stick to it, or risk pushing their entire local customer base away. Very disappointed. read more

Very pleasant experience. When i went back to exchange a pocketbook the process was easy and clerk was very nice about it. What really impressed me was their honesty. I had left some money in the purse i returned and Omar tracked me down and sent it back to me. I am beyond impressed. If i am ever in town i will definitely going back there to shop. read more

The Best Travel store ever! They are so knowledgeable and friendly, and they carry everything you need for traveling. I was in need of new luggage and the sales associate showed me different brands and I settled on the Briggs & Riley-partly because of the lifetime warranty! Yes- it was a bit more expensive than other brands but the sales associate was so passionate about it. I can say that after using it now I love it too! Just stopped in to this store as it had traveling goods and hats. I was browsing and looking at their very nice luggage and my husband was admiring and trying on some hats. The older clerk, a woman, was very nice to me as I was looking on one side of the store. My husband was on the other side when I heard the clerk start speaking to him, somewhat irritated, "The larger hats are on top so they can be stacked that way"! I approached him and touched his shoulder and I said to the woman, "My husband can't hear you, he's deaf". She scoffed and said, "Well that's the way it is!" and walked away. Even though he wanted a particular hat and they had it, I wouldn't let him buy it. I explained the situation outdoors and he was glad I stopped him. I'm sorry Miss if he unstacked a couple of hats. There was no one other than ourselves in your store. He wasn't trying to make you work any harder than you were. He's a 100 % Disabled Veteran, deaf, two artificial hips, metal in both legs and arm, has had two strokes and many other medical ailments. He can enjoy very little these days. Terrible customer service. Spent over $4000 buying new luggage, Briggs and Riley brand, and assorted clothes and travel goods. They said they guaranteed the luggage. Repairs, if needed, were free. NOT TRUE! I lost a zipper pull and took the bag back to the store and they charged me $35 to send the bag to have it repaired. A local luggage repair shop normally would charge around $10. On picking the bag up the sales clerk was exceptionally rude as I commented that this was supposed to be free. Her comments were x rated as I left the store. I will never shop there again. I went into Tops & n Travel tonight looking for an adapter for Italy & Greece. There were two associates working there tonight. One clearly had no interest in getting anything done. i even heard her tell another customer who asked if she would help return a product to the packaging that "I don't care what happens to it, I punch out in three minutes and it's her problem." But the other worker, Ariana, was a credit to the store. She understood and was familiar with the products, demonstrated how I should use the adapters, and was very engaged in her job. While on vacation in Carmel, I was looking for a store that specifically carried bagallini handbags. Someone pointed me in the direction of Tops N Travel. I was very impressed with their selection, and had a great experience from the second I walked in the door. They have a lovely staff, very friendly and helpful. My dermatologist told me I needed to trade in my golf cap for a wide brim hat, so I went into the Tops N Travel shop in the Carmel Crossroads because they have an enormous has selection. As I was browsing through their expansive collection, a pleasant assistant, Nina, patiently worked with me to find the exact hat that I needed. Without he help and good humor, I would probably become impatient and discouraged, but with her patience and knowledge of the products in the store, she saved the day for me!
