I was looking for a birthday gift for my Dad and was in Los Gatos and thought of coming here. Excellent customer service. I wasn't familiar with cap sizes so the salesperson said if it didn't fit my Dad, I could bring back the cap for exchange in 2 weeks. I told her we are not celebrating his birthday until around 2 weeks and she said I could still bring it back with a little wiggle room. The cap she helped me select was unique. It was made out of wool and had little flecks of color, making it a little bit different. She also boxed it up for me so that I could wrap it later. My Dad opened the gift yesterday night and it fit! Black Cat Hats is one store absolutely not to miss if you are in downtown Los Gatos. There is so much more than just hats! The jewelry and personal accessories are selected with an eye for quality and uniqueness. And the hats are both serviceable and unique with a nice variety of Fascinator Hats. I won a hat contest with mine...YAY! The store is located in an area where there are many lovely shops and restaurants, so it is worth a special trip. It's easy to spot as there are usually hat displays on the sidewalk. Parking downtown can be tricky at lunchtime, but Black Cat Hats is located near the free underground parking lot, so that is helpful. Of course, there is also free street parking. read more

Needing a "real" hat for a Regatta in London (a fancy affair), I immediately Yelped "Hats, Los Gatos" and up popped Black Cat Hats. I called with a few questions and got a great vibe (more on that later) and thought hmmmm - ok - time to check it out. From the moment I walked in, I knew I was in the right place. Aleen was SUPER nice and VERY helpful. This girl knows her hats thank goodness, because I know nothing about buying a fancy hat (I'm more of a baseball cap girl). But after trying a few black hats (my boring go to color) I decided Aleen was right and I went with it. She made me a nice hat box and off I flew to London with my new RED hat. Was shopping in Los Gatos and wanted a warm beanie for my upcoming trip to New Mexico so I thought why not come on in to this store and support a local business. As soon as I entered the friendly woman who could be the owner(with blonde hair) greeted me with a smile and directed me to hats on a table on sale going for $10. I then asked her for a recommendation for a hat and she directed me to this awesome Woolrich Beanie from Woolrich PA and I was hooked. It was normally going for $25 so I bought a cool hat that is tres chic and fits in with all types of clothes. The store has so many cool hats and I know I would not have found the same hats at other stores even for $25 its a good price to pay. I can now stay warm thanks to Black Cat Hats! I will never shop here again. Period. I am just so absolutely appalled at the service I received just now. I came in last week looking for a derby hat for the 4th annual San Jose Derby. After receiving the lovely service from the two ladies, Aileen and Jan (sweetest brunette lady) in the store as I purchased last week....I received the worst just now looking to exchange the hat by Aileen (blonde lady) I didn't use the hat and Aileen, the woman from the time of purchase bold faced lied to me. She says she told me that the item was final sale and I assure you she did NOT. Not even once did I hear that the hat I was purchasing was final sale. By either her or Jan. If I knew that I would NOT have even bothered buying it! Especially bc it was $106. Why would I come back and try to exchange if I knew this information? She says she told me and it's a lie! Also I went back and looked at the receipt and it does NOT even state it there at all!!! Just exchange within 14 days for store credit. It's just so sad bc I didn't use this lovely hat last weekend and now I honestly don't ever even want to! I'm so sad. I have been living in Los Gatos for 8 years now and I love to support local and small business! I am always shopping in downtown Los Gatos and I can promise you I will NEVER go back to this store ever again. I went in to find a hat for the Concours d'Elegance the Friday before the event thinking they would definitely keep a great selection regardless of how close the date was to the actual event. They had nothing. I informed the woman that I needed a hat for the event. She says, "Don't you think it's a little late to be shopping for a hat?" How rude, it's none of your business lady, just be nice and help me find a hat. I tried on a couple hats that were ok, but were simple 'everyday' hats. I then asked her about the last hat I tried on, "You know I think I'll just get this one, but if I find one that I like better in Carmel, will you accept a return?" She says, "We don't refund used hats." That's not what I asked lady. Hello! She then says, "Don't get it if you don't like it. You know Carmel has only one store and it's very small. I bought my first hat at Black Cat last year when a paucity of hair and sunny summer days drove me to seek more a stylish solution than my habitual baseball cap. I ended up with a modestly priced panama-style that immediately solved my problem and garnered numerous compliments from the fairer sex, an unexpected side benefit. Sometime in the late last Fall I misplaced my panama and vowed to replace it ASAP in the Spring. Again, Black Cat got the call because they have tons of choices and their staff is friendly and fun to work with. This time around I felt more deserving of at least trying on some higher end panamas I'd spotted the year before. Recommended was a light-colored Stetson panama (yes they make more than cowboy headgear) that "brought out the blue in my eyes". Yes they really said that and I really walked out of the store wearing that hat.
