Anyway, besides the ridiculous first encounter I had with the two lovely ladies who were supposedly employees, they have a fantastic selection of boots. I ended up getting a pair despite such a distaste for the quality of service due to me falling in love with a pair of Ariats. Overall, Crossroads has a wonderful selection but poor customer service. She wasn't very friendly and asked for my personal information to sign up for the rewards program. She kept asking me to repeat my info several times since she couldn't "understand". It's not my fault if you can't comprehend lady! I guess it worked out since I did get $5 off my purchase. There was a rowdy group before me, and the cashier made a sly comment into her earpiece to the other employees about them. Not very professional at all. 1 star for my deal; 0 for customer service.

We browsed with clear intent to purchase for nearly 20 minutes and were treated as though we were invisible. What we did receive was surveillance. An employee followed us at a distance the entire time -- not to help, but to watch. Then a regular customer walked in. The transformation was immediate. Multiple employees rushed to greet him, addressed him as "Doctor," asked about his weekend plans, and provided the attentive, personalized service that had apparently been unavailable to us moments earlier. For context: my husband is also a physician. The difference? They didn't know that. Luxury retail isn't about recognizing certain titles or catering to familiar faces. It's about consistency, professionalism, and making every customer feel welcome. What we witnessed was selective hospitality -- enthusiastic deference for the "right" person, suspicion and indifference for the rest. That isn't upscale. It's exclusionary. We won't be returning, and we'll gladly spend our money at Mr. Wicks who understands respect should not be conditional.
