I'll start with the good. The girl who did my hair was very nice. She asked me if I wanted some water while I get my hair done, she always kept conversation and it wasn't all about her, she actually was interested in hearing about me. All the women there seemed very nice. They were very welcoming. Now the reason I gave only 2 stars. I was going to my first Marine Corps Birthday Ball and went there to get my hair done because they were having a discount for the ball. I went in with a picture on my phone of what I wanted. It was kind of like a messy bun, but with curls, and the front looked like what was twisties. Well, she ended up making the front look like rectangle blocks arranged on my head and then the back instead of putting the curls in a pinned up bun on top my head with the curls draping off she put it right on the back in a tight bun. No loose curls at all and it was kind of towrards the side. I looked ridiculous. I didn't say anything because we were down to the wire on time and I had to go looking like a goof and suffer. I will never go back to get my hair done. I would rather have a mean old lady do my hair and get it done right than a nice person making me look bad. I couldn't understand how she screwed it up when I had the reference on my phone that she kept looking at, and she kept talking about how she was going to do it and it SOUNDED like she knew what she was doing, but she had no clue. read more

I have been coming here for a long time with my mom and sister. The ladies here are great and a joy to talk to. Lin, one in charge of doing manicures, and her family do a great job. She can be quite hysterical. Do not take her jokes seriously. As being one of her regulars, she is very friendly. If getting a pedicure, foot massage is provided as well. She is usually willing to stay past opening hours for her customers. Food and drinks are always served to all their customers. Each of the hair stylist have their own schedules. Walk-ins are welcome. Even if you are one to not get any service done, you can munch on food and have a drink to your liking (I know I do). The place is always kept clean. Seats always provided to everyone. Bathroom is a bit limited but available. read more

Amazing place! These ladies take there time and really make you feel welcome they are amazing. They truly make ya comfy and work with whatever you want done from easy cut to funky make over. I came in with wrecked Color and a bad cut the squeesed me in and got my hair done amazing four colors and a cut and style! After reading great reviews about this place, I decided to give this place a try. I scheduled a hair cut appointment with Beth on a Saturday morning. When I walked into the hair salon, it was busy, but had a great vibe! The salon was super cute and everyone was very friendly! I showed Beth a picture of how I wanted to get my hair cut. I wanted to go with a shorter hairstyle with layers and Beth made some great suggestions to the hairstyle. When Beth was cutting my hair, she took her time to make sure the hairstyle was just like the picture that I showed her. At the end, the hair cut turned out great! I'm very happy with my hair! I'm not too fussy when it comes to hair, so I don't like spending a lot or making appointments ahead of time. This place is perfect for that. The staff for the most part are extremely friendly. Vanna cut my hair and did an excellent job and spent a lot of time being thorough. I didn't catch the name but the woman who cuts right next to the register is always very bubbly and pleasant when I head in or out, and is damn near reason enough to go back. She took her time to measure my hair to make sure I had enough to donate, and also enough so my hair won't be too short. I was very nervous about how I would look with short hair. Had my hair cut off because I was going to donate it. I asked her to cut off 10" and when I measured the hair it was 13". It wasn't a huge deal for me but I still didn't want me hair that short. I couldn't make appointments at my last haircut place and that became a real problem -- why is my time less important than my haircutter's? Nestled in a strip mall off of Mission Ave, Topstyles was busy busy both times I've been there. Not really a guy's salon but I went there because Loretta had been recommended to me. I'm so glad I took that recommendation seriously! She only works three days a week (Tue-Thur-Fri) and seems to have lots of clients, but I swear, she gave me one of the best cuts I've ever had. I would definitely recommend Loretta to any guy who wants a great, reasonably priced cut. Can't speak to any of the other stylists there, but Loretta is tops! read more

TopStyles is my all time favorite salon and is a great place for all of your salon needs and much more! All the staff is super friendly & very talented! This salon has a great atmosphere...nice decor, spacious, and my favorite eye candy in the salon is the Holiday Trees. Pat (the owner) decorates the tree to celebrate the next upcoming holiday (not just the same old boring painted windows). Pat is so cleaver with her trees. Not only does she do a great job with Chanukah & Christmas, but she does it up for Easter, Madri Gras, Halloween, New Years, 4th of July, Memorial Day, the Four Seasons, and my all time favorite was the Baby Shower tree to celebrate one of their own's upcoming new baby girl. Everyone there treats you like your part of the family. They provide refreshments (water, coffee, tea & wine - they have the license to do so), and yummy munchies to snack on while you are being pampered. You may even get lucky to get an invite (or just be in the right place at the right time) to a celebration pot luck. Lynn and her team do a great job with Nails & Pedicures! I had seen her work and had been recommended to go to Lynn and when I had to switch manicurists, I had no doubt where to go. Great pedicures without being nickel & dimed by added services - it's all included. What 1st brought me to TopStyles was Waffa. She is amazing and super talented. Every where I go, I always get great complements on my hair. It's super healthy, and I love my cut...especially the COLOR! Waffa does a super awesome job with her coloring techniques. What ever you need, she can do it! She can mix you any color you want. I told her I wanted a particular celebrates' hair color and she was able to match it perfectly. Waffa is like a second mother to me. She not only does my hair, but she does my husband's and 10 yr old son's hair as well. I am too, a licensed hair stylist from New Jersey and it is very difficult for me to find a stylist to do my hair how I want it but DIane did a beautiful job on my hair!!! Hi, Love this place! The staff are great fun and I always feel like I am spending time with friends! Linn does the best pink and white I have ever had. My nails look very natural, great shape and rounding. I have never had a negative nail experience. I have had negative experiences at other local salons where I have had nail fungus and I cannot tell you the number of times people have made my cuticules bleed, just being too rough. In the years I hvae been a client of Linns I have had nothing but a positive experience. Kevin does my pedicure.He is an excellent exfoliator and again since I have been a client at this salon I have neverhad an ingrowing toe nail, this was a cronic problem before Top Styles.. They are very hygine consious and I notice how they go to great lengths to provide hygineic tools. Now let me talk about hair.I have been clients of Pat and Waffa, both do great cuts and great color. They really pay attention to your face shape and lifestyle and give an excellent cut that looks good and me and is very manegable. I take my daughter too and Pat did her junior and senior prop up do's. I have never seen such beautiful work, really my daughter looked youthful and beautiful. I know when the day comes Pat will be doing my daughters wedding do! Long hair is not easy to work with, but Pat does an incredible job! I guess having daughters of her own has kept Pat on the "cutting edge" of what young girls like. Thats not to say that Pat only works on a young client, she works with clients of all age groups and they all look fabulous. Sitting and having your nails done, you get to see a lot of before and afters. So bottom line, don't go anywhere else! read more

I went into Top Styles 2 weeks ago with a picture of a haircut I wanted. I showed the picture to the stylist and asked her "Can you do this?" She assured me she could. Half way through the hair cut I made her stop. She had no concept. The owner came over and apologized, asked me if I could wait 30 minutes and someone else would fix it, Horrified at what was done to my hair I thought o.k. mabe someone else with more experience can fix this. Well, I walked out to my car and broke into tears!! They have no clue what they are doing!! PLEASE! Do yourself a favor, instead of going to this place buy a flo-bee. You will end up with better results! Went to M Image Salon, and they were like, "Did you cut your own hair?" They did a beautiful shop FIXING the damage. I give zero stars to Top Styles. I just want to thank Loretta for giving me bozo the clown orange hair the day before going on my honeymoon to Kauai. In fact, I am in Kauai still but every time I look in the mirror I cringe so I have to vent. She says that no one has complained in 30 years but I find that hard to believe because she let me leave the salon unhappy knowing it looked orange on my roots. I don't understand why she didn't just admit that my roots were orange, maybe it was their lighting but I saw the orange then, I saw the orange after she put a couple more low lights in and I see the freakin orange now!!!!! It's just awful. I have been debating box dye brown all vacation hoping that it would die down with every dip in the ocean but if you can believe it, it just gets worse. She did say that she would fix it but I'd have to pay for the product . No thanks! I wouldn't give her another dollar. She should have fixed it that night instead of worrying about getting home early to her boyfriend and please Loretta if you can't juggle clients then just don't. She was a nice lady and acted like she wanted to fix it, I'll give her that. I guess I wasted 100 bucks. I'd kind of like the money back if you read this and feel the need to give it back, I'll let you keep your tip :( read more

Heed the warnings. I had a hairstylist here for a year, she gave me one good cut my first time, a short A-line bob which she did well enough for me to come back. However each time I saw her she would rush me through. She even dyed my hair once, but it was orange when I left and I never got that done again. The last time I saw her I decided to go in and offer her double what she normally charged me, because I thought that would help me get better service and not be rushed, but it did not. She made rude comments about the color of my hair. I tried be assertive about my experience I was having (i.e., the sink bowl was uncomfortable and she was splashing water in my face and she was just rushing me through.. Not personable or professional and did not care about hearing what I expressed or wanted. And after a year relationship with her. Shame on me. It ended when she was blow drying my hair in my face and water was still dripping down my neck and in my ears... She was tugging at my delicately bleached hair and ripping through it with the wrong brush. When I told her she was being rough she grabbed my elbow and pulled me out of the salon!!! The level of UNPROFESSIONALISM SHOCKED ME. I should've filed a police report. I called the owner and she did not seem to care one bit saying she was not responsible for the people that rented chairs there. Do yourself a favor and heed the reviews! read more

I was going to the same stylist for 10 years but unfortunately had to move 6 hours away due to my husband's job. We have been living in North County for almost 3 years and I have not found a stylist that I wanted to go back to until now. =) I'm not very particular or picky with my hair since I wear my hair up most of the time due to my job BUT I'm not easily impressed either. Most of the places I've tried were just "okay" or way too expensive to keep returning. Waffa made such a great impression and i totally LOVE the way my hair turned out!!!! I'm making Waffa my "go to" stylist from now on. She made suggestions appropriately, helped me pick out my color and was very personable but not overbearing like other hair stylists I've tried. She has been doing hair for 20 years and her professionalism/experience shows. Although I base my rating strictly on the stylist, the place has a casual/friendly atmosphere which I also enjoyed. I could really care less about the place; I can deal with sitting in someone's garage while getting a hair cut just as long as the result turns out great! Looked at all the excellent reviews and I thought why not give it a try. I called last minute and thought maybe I wouldn't get a spot but luckily I did. I went with my face makeup free and took my sister with me. She was dressed up and ready to go while i was in jeans, a sweater and hair in a bun. The minute we stepped inside there was a lady there and I thought oh she might greet us or help us out, WRONG! She asked us can I help you while having attitude with us, I explained to her about my appointment and instead of speaking to me she started talking to my sister about the makeup she wants. Um excuse me I told you about MY appointment not my sister's. After that she took me to Beth to do my makeup. Beth was nice and she tried making conversation with me even though we didn't really have anything in common. I showed Beth an example of what I was looking for and I explained to her how I'm not a lipstick fan yet she put the brightest shade on me. Um yeah I'm no makeup expert but I know that me being mexican my skin tone wouldn't mix well with bright colors. While i was having my makeup applied I just got this vibe of white old ladies and them singing along and I felt uncomfortable with me and my sister being of a different ethnicity. When it finished I paid an left and the lady just took the money and not even a thank you or come again came out of her mouth. I got in my car and asked my sister what did she think and she laughed and said they made you look like a clown, even my sister being 15 knows how to do my makeup better than a salon! This is a very cozy salon, i love it! All of the ladies that work there are so nice- it's like hanging out with your aunts at a family reunion but if anyone is looking to color or cut their hair, Beth is the person you want to see. I moved to OCEANSIDE about 10 years ago and just last year found my forever hair dresser in Beth like my girl I had at home. She always gives me the perfect cuts for my face shape, even when my kids put a huge knot in my hair and we had to chop it off. She managed to give me a super cute cut even though I was really nervous about having short hair. And if you're looking for color, she seriously is pure magic. BUT listen to her advice because if she says something's not going to work, ITS NOT. Luckily for me, all of my crazy requests have come true thanks to Beth! So I got a coupon out of a coupon book that came in the mail. It seemed like a good deal $85 for a cut, color, and highlight. Only with Loretta. She first of all trimmed my hair dry, it took about three minutes worse cut ever! Then the asked what color, I showed her a picture. She said that's not going to work I'm going to do this instead. I felt helpless, she started throwing color onto my roots, then she began foiling ripping my hair with the comb. She threw in some highlights faster than I've ever seen not worrying about if it was going to be even or not. Usually it's about a two hour job, it was less than an hour. She put me under the heat for ten minutes or so, then rinsed it out, blow dryed it then turned me around to show me, while saying IT LOOKS SO GREAT! What I saw was a joke! She turned my hair orange! I'm getting married in a week! Worst stylist ever!!! Stay away!!! To top things off the coupon said $85 she charged me $105! I wish I had something nice to say.
