This Torchy's is a joke. I ordered to-go in house. They give you a number assuming they'd call it, vibrate; or leave it a pick up area. But no. Unfortunately, I only got my order after following up 40 minutes later. And it was up on the counter sitting there for the past 20 minutes. What was the point of the number and ordering to-go if you're not going to call it? Or let people know how you'll get your order. Also, service people aren't obviously happy to be here. Food is always fine, but tack on at least 20-30 minutes to whatever ETA you are given for your food. I've been to this location probably 15 times and it's truly incredible how behind they are, even when it's seemingly empty. In fact, I am writing this while waiting for an online order that said 25 minutes and I'm going on minute 45. I was visiting my friend in Austin and came here for a quick dinner one night. I ordered the Crossroads taco and we got the queso to share. Taco was a bit pricier than what I'm used to in LA (~$5) but the portion was HUGE. I made two smaller tacos from my order. The queso tasted good as well, although I've never really had queso before but it was appetizing and had a kick to it. There were also drinks available and a full bar. I liked that there was both indoor and outdoor seating with a covered patio for the rain. There is a free parking lot outside the building. read more

I only get three things from Torchy's anytime I go: Baja shrimp taco, migas taco and queso. I love all three of these. I think the migas taco is the best breakfast taco anywhere! I really like that you can get your tacos in a bowl. That option isn't listed on the store menu, but it's an option online and you can ask in store to have it served that way. The problems: - you can't get extra sauces when you order online - picking up orders can be a real mess - I wish they served their sauces on the taco or in a biodegradable container rather than on the side in a plastic cup. You get it this way even when you dining in...why not just put it on the taco? I hate the amount of plastic waste this generates. read more

I absolutely love Torchys BUT the service here is hands down the worst. Literally nobody at the counter or bar or anywhere for a solid 10 minutes. Took forever to get my food and ppl were on their phones. Plus my order ended up being wrong. Definitely need a supervisor here. BEWARE About every six months we give torchy's a try and we order online. But I got to hand it to them they are definitely consistent. Today the order was supposed to be ready at 8:05 PM my wife's there at 8:20 PM and they said it would be another half an hour. The other people in line have been waiting for over 45 mins past their order times. I can't figure out why the torches on Escarpment just can't get it right. I truly enjoy Torchy's tacos but i do not enjoy this location. It feels like it is being run by a bunch of children. Multiple times the following has happened; -Lack of decent customer service -missing things within the order -cold tacos -messy/not well built tacos -longer wait times than what was quoted -oddly, my order was done way before they quoted so again, my tacos were cold. I will continue to visit torchy's but i will go to arbor trails or the s first location. I honestly have never had a problem at either of those locations. Looking for other taco suggestions, try vera cruze ** I have to update as well as take away a star. I am not sure how this is possible but they have become even more inattentive than my previous visits. We sat at the bar hoping to get food a drinks and we were practically ignored the entire time. I just had my first taco experience here 20 minutes ago! I'm so glad South Austin got a Torchy's location. We sort of had a vacuum for good fast tacos in the area. I ordered 2 green chili pork, 2 Democrats, 2 Republicans and 1 Mr. Orange. The phone order process was a little less than seamless on the ordertakers side. But we got through it and the tacos were delivered to me curbside while the rest of my family and I waited for them in the parking lot I'm impressed that Torchy's didn't cave to the PC mob and actually brought back the Republican to the menu. We live in Belterra and come here at least once a week. To rate the food alone, I'd give it 5 stars. It's always good. The reason for the 3 star review is the timing of the chips and queso. It's gotten to be a running joke with us that really isn't funny. We always order it and for the past few months we always say we want it first, before the tacos come out. Which BTW is a law that in good consciousness should never be broken. So here's our experience: 40% it comes out well after the tacos, 40% it never comes out and we have to remind them that we ordered it, leaving 20% of the time they actually get it right. It's Torchy's, and we've visited nearly every location in Austin and The Circle C location needs some love. 5 stars for food, 3 for service. Between 4 of us, we tried 6 different tacos and the queso. I was surprised the trailer park (chicken tender taco) was actually my fave. The breakfast brisket was a close second. We also LOVE the queso, it shines on its own and I could totally eat it as a meal and not feel sorry. As for service, the kid running the register basically got all our orders wrong (wrong taco, cheese on the no cheese etc) and when I tried to order a happy hour drink he said that it wasn't going on right now (even though the posted signs and website said otherwise). Torchy's has THE best queso in Austin. When I first moved to Austin, I became obsessed with queso and made it my mission to try queso at every restaurant I visited so I could determine for myself who offered the best. Hands down - it's Torchy's. The queso is runny (the way I liked it, I get weirded out if it is too thick), the diablo sauce adds a nice kick, plus I love that it comes with avocado and cilantro. The chips are great too - nice and crunchy. Torchy's chips and queso has become my ultimate comfort food. The tacos are great too of course. My personal favorite is the Fried Avocado with poblano ranch. My husband is a self proclaimed carnivore and loves everything spicy, so the Brushfire is his favorite. My six-year-old likes a plain bean and potato taco and I get a side of rice and beans for my one-year-old. I also recommend the Street Corn. All in all, a satisfying meal for everyone in our family when we feel like indulging (let's face it, Torchy's is not the place to go when you want to feel healthy, and that's exactly the point). As for this location, I've seen a lot of negative reviews about service. I personally haven't experienced issues, but we usually order takeout, even prior to the pandemic. I did an online order. And arrived shortly before the ready time. There were people there before me also waiting on online orders. Saw many people arrive, place orders and get their food. Asked about order status and was told it was being packaged. About 15 minutes later, I asked for a manager since I hadn't seen any online orders come out the entire waiting time. The manager somehow came out and mentioned they were short-staffed, but no one had communicated anything to those of us waiting for orders. Online orders miraculously all started coming out. I've never waited close to an hour for 4 tacos. They gave me a refund but I won't be using online ordering or coming to this location again. read more

Best tacos in Austin. The brushfire is my favorite. We always get that, the crossroads and the democrat. The independent is also a treat; so much flavor in one little vegetarian taco. Not so little, though. The tacos are actually quite big. Also, their queso is the reason I like queso. I grew up in the Midwest and thought queso was gross. When I moved to Texas someone insisted I try their queso, so I did. And it was amazing. Now I'll eat queso at other places, but Torchy's is still the best out there. read more

I'm sad to see all these haters criticizing this location. Torchy's really went out on a limb to put a restaurant smack dab in the middle of sleepy little suburban neighborhood, and take over a space that is arguably way too big for any restaurant in Circle C. Frankly I feel privileged that they chose us and grateful I don't have to go all the way to William Cannon to get my favorite tacos. I have never had a problem with the staff, service, or the food at this location. So I can't relate to the complaints. What I do like is how much space there always is and how they've spread out the seating areas. I hate crowded restaurants where it's hard to find a seat, so it's really nice that at this location I can always find a seat in a quiet corner and hear myself and the person I'm willing when we're having a conversation. Keep up the good work and thank you for bringing an iconic restaurant to lil ole Circle C. I love Torchy's and understand that the storm has been stressful for everyone.. but the manager at this branch is extremely rude, canceled our order, and threatened to call the police when I asked her to not talk down to me... after we waited over an hour from the time the order was supposed to be ready for pickup. Damn good tacos. But no wifi. Yes, it's 2018, and Torchys has no guest access to wifi. So technically they do have wifi, they don't allow public access. :-) I came here to catch up on work and have breakfast. This is the only restaurant that I am aware of in Circle C that does not have public access to the internet. I went to a Chevron Gas Station yesterday that has a dive tacoria attached to the backside of the convenience store. THEY had guest access to wifi! Second really odd thing about this location is they have a big beautiful bar area but only wait on the people at the bar. I came with my wife last week for happy hour and was shocked there is no table service in the bar area. So in order to sit and have drinks and food, in the bar area, you have to find a place at the bar to squeeze in and order drinks. There were two bartenders serving the 15 or so bar patrons, which was plenty, but no one serving the 8-10 tables. So to get refills on chips and queso in the bar area you have to get back in line by the front door and order more and to get a refill on your margarita (great margaritas, btw) you have to squeeze in between patrons at the bar to place an order. I can't figure why they would make these two decisions. Limited seating at the bar but no table service at the tables in the bar yet 2 bartenders in which one is plenty. Secondly no guest wifi. I am perplexed. I suppose they just don't want people hanging around. Well, I guess I will finish my review and my damn good tacos and move on. Hope this helps read more
