I've been going to this restaurant for a decade and a half. Their prices are similar but lower than other TexMex restaurants if similar quality. This is a dramatic change from my last review and this visit was terrible. We went at about 730pm on a Monday and the restaurant was full. But we were seated right away inside which was perfect. When the waitress served us water we asked if we could order. My wife ordered an appetizer beans and cheese nacho, 2 toquitos, and small bowl of queso with water to drink. I ordered Maggie's dinner with ice tea. I never did get my tea and only a crispy taco for the first plate with the second being a cheese enchilada w/ chili con carne sauce with rice and bean. I never received the second plate. After some time the waitress said they were working on my order and it was coming. More time passed and the waitress said my meal would be free and gave me a plate of nachos and one cheese enchilada. Bad all the way around and I don't think we will go back. read more

My husband and I decided to grab some Maudie's Hacienda for dinner. We ordered online and picked it up curbside. As soon as we pulled into one of the curbside spots my husband called the number listed on the sign, said his name, and then they brought out our food. It was quick and easy. I ordered the Poblano Crema Enchiladas which comes filled with chicken and cheese, and topped with Poblano cream sauce and tomatillo avacado sauce. I got a side of rice and borracho beans and two flour tortillas. The enchiladas were very good. They were filled with a lot of chicken and melted cheese and the sauces on top were plentiful and flavorful. The rice was good and reminiscent of my Grandma's homemade rice. The borracho beans had a lot of flavor. I mixed the rice and beans together for a mix of flavors. The tortillas were warm and soft. Overall it was a good place to pickup food curbside. Maudie's Hacienda has always been very consistent in serving tasty food and mixed drinks over the years. You don't need reservations here, but if having lunch here arrive a bit early to find a parking spot near the front otherwise plenty near Randall's. You can sit inside, at the bar or outdoor patio, and had a great friendly staff. The place is kept very clean. I ordered the #3 Taco Dinner off the lunch menu and selected two crispy tacos with chicken, and Mexican rice and beans, and a small frozen margarita. The tacos had great flavor and ended up getting a small side of guacamole which made it even taste better. I was not too impressed with the Mexican rice but when mixed with the refried beans it was great. Overall very good experience dining here. read more

We went in to dine with my family and friends, and I reached early to get a table for us so the kids would not have to wait since it was dinner time. I was hoping to place the order early for the kids so that the food was ready when the family arrived. The hostess asked me to wait till the party arrived. While I was waiting (for over 15 mins now), I saw multiple WHITE folks come in alone asking for a table of 3,4 and 6 that got seated immediately. Upon questioning, the hostess counter argued that their party had arrived, when clearly they were sitting all by themselves at the table with all other chairs empty. Upon asking for the manager, the hostess denied at first until I insisted that I speak to the manager. The manager came out and spoke with me and I relayed the experience to her. She confirmed that this was a mistake on the hostess' part and that they will speak to her. We decided not to dine at the restaurant (and never will in future). read more

I'm from Texas; had a lot of Tex-mex in my lifetime. So I went into Maudies for the first time with an open mind but honestly not expecting anything special. I was blown away; I don't know that they put in that queso but it's some of the best queso I've ever had. I got the Pablo Hacienda, marinated and grilled chicken dressed with melted Jack cheese and a delightfully sinful poblano sauce. Best part, it doesn't break the bank. 10/10 The service was warm and welcoming; super helpful staff that never left us stranded always assisting me and my crew no problem. 10/10 I'll be honest you don't come here for the atmosphere, the main focus is on the food and the service. They got a few big screens that have current sports games going on if you're into that. It's tacky but cozy and inviting. read more

Our enchilada dish featured a beef enchilada with a chili con carne sauce and a chicken enchilada with poblano cream sauce, accompanied by refried beans and rice. Our enchiladas were perfect and the rice was moist and tasty. The refried beans were great, although I would have preferred the usual cheese topping which was missing. I was a bad Yelper and forgot to take pictures of all my food, but I did grab a picture of the chips and salsa, which were fresh. I also got guacamole and queso, which were also very good. For my entree, I got fish tacos, my husband got a chimichanga, and my daughter got the bean and cheese nachos. The fish tacos are my go-to when I go to Maudie's, and these did not disappoint. My husband's chimichanga was the standard big burrito, but he was a little irritated because he asked for rice and beans, but they only gave him rice even though he said he would pay more, they never brought his beans. My daughter's nachos were on large homemade looking tortilla chips, but it looked like they overcooked the nachos, and the ends were burnt. There is plenty of parking, but this location shares its's parking lot with other businesses, so depending on the time of day, you may have to drive around a little to find a spot. Besides our food opportunities, our service, this time was a little different than when we normally go to Maudie's. The waitress who brought out our food did not seem like she normally interacted with the customers. She was a bit brash, but our main server apologized profusely and also shared that she would give her feedback to ensure the experience was better next time. Especially because the group that we were with, are regulars and literally knew half the staff. Will I go back again? Good Tex-Mex in S Austin! Decently strong margaritas, I got their frozen with a Cointreau floater which made for a boozy marg with a nice extra orangey taste to it. My chile relleno was quite nice, good amount of queso and ground beef in it that was very filling. We also got a carne guisada burrito, meat was mostly good just slightly dry, but the burrito was flour tortillas on the side and the carne guisada on the plate. This was a first, have never had to make a burrito myself given the ingredients on the plate. I've seen fajita tacos like this but not a burrito so that was interestinggg. read more

Dropped in for a lunch and did not have to wait - that was nice since it seems like there's always a wait in Austin these days. Restaurant was not terribly noisy which was good, and the staff were really friendly and provided attentive service. Our group and some tea and lemonade for drinks with some folks getting the HUGE taco salads for lunch, chicken fajita tacos and carne guisada lunch plate. Chip and salsa were served gratis upon sitting down and were consumed heartily (I mean who doesn't devour these things when waiting on the mains). Parking was a bit of a pain since the lot out front gets full quickly, but spots were available around the corner - albeit a little walk required. read more

It's Friday night and the weather is beautiful, and shockingly Maudies is not line out the door busy. Such a pleasant surprise! The last few years were always busy we stopped coming as often as it was hard to get in. This is our absolute favorite restaurant because the food is consistently good and the service always above par, with some minor hiccups during Covid. Just wanted to drop another review and say such a wonderful place to have a good Tex Mex dinner and drinks at reasonable prices. Also, so great to see some of the pre Covid staff running around taking care of business with good attitudes and attentive service. At the end of the day, it's the staff that pulls this great experience off. I'm telling you they are humming tonight. I don't know if that is why there was no line to get in or if I just got here in good time...but well done! Reminds me of the pre covid days when this place consistently had a hit the mark. We were looking for a new Tex Mex place in Austin and decided to try Maudie's. There are several locations in the city and we selected the South Austin restaurant. The interior is spacious with a high-beamed ceiling and lots of seating space. Despite the busy service (it was a Saturday afternoon) it remained relatively quiet, at least not so noisy you couldn't carry on a conversation. We started with the queso, a solid choice that ran a bit thin but fully flavorful. My lunch entree was the tacos al pastor, marinated pork served with pico salsa, cilantro and onion nestled on corn tacos. The flavors of the pork complemented the toppings on the taco. Service was spot-on and attentive. This is a decent place for a casual meal or even for date night. Recommended. read more
