I have driven passed the restaurant a few times always curious to know what's inside. So I finally took the wife here to try it out. It was definitely a different experience compared to your national chains but was worth the money. I got the double wide tacos. It was a chicken fried steak taco which was different because a lot of people would say that chicken fried steak doesn't belong on a taco but who cares it was tasty! But the biggest kicker to me was the hillbilly queso and chips. It was pretty much queso with chorizo but was so tasty. Me and the wife loved every bit of it. The drink selection was much to be desired. It was a lot of local drinks that had a different taste to it so I was not used to it. If you're into spicy stuff, the Brushfire is seriously tasty and easily my favorite taco here. Something about mangos, jalapeño & cilantro that just pairs perfectly together. Ordered a large queso and got a half of cup that I'm sure the manager went and poured right into the container after the girl brought it out and it was a to go order. Really like Torchys tacos! I find myself wanting their tacos weekly! My family and i enjoy the family meals most of the time. Never ever had an issue with the quality of their food. Would give 5 stars, but 5 out of the last six times something was missing frome my order. The first 4 times it was always the queso, so i knew to check for it. Yesterday i went in, picked up my order, checked for queso, once i confirmed it was there i was happy. BUT when i got home i realized there was no beans and rice, big part of a family meal..... Normally a big fan of Torchy's. The food here was as good as others, but, especially during COVID, this place was filthy. Denton positive COVID numbers are rising fast, but this location didn't have tables spaced/closed and nearly every single table had food junk all over the tables and the seats. And this was around 11:30 AM, so it's not like the day had been long. I sure hope it wasn't closed the night before having remained in that disgusting state. I have heard all kinds of good things about this place. Overall, the service was about average. The cashier was pleasant enough and very patient with us. It took a while for us to digest the menu and come to conclusions. Each of us got the street corn as a side, it was a real crowd pleaser! Went today to have lunch after getting some of my daughter's belongings in the apartment. I had never seen it so empty. We ordered and waited and waited and waited for our drinks. When our food finally came out, we inquired about our drinks. That's when they started to make them. I was 1 bite away from being done w/ my meal before the drinks finally showed up. My first visual impression, Torchy's is a fancy taco house. The full bar and interior were very visually appealling. Then, I saw the menu board and my first thought was yeah, Im paying for that interior. The price per taco was double was I was expecting. Now, Im not a small guy and Im used to eating 5-6 tacos as a meal. I asked the cashier how many tacos people order on average and he stated probably two. So, I ordered two both with corn tortilla; one carnitas geen chile and one jamaican jerk chicken. Chips n queso and a shiner beer. And, I was not disappointed. It took a very long time to get my order.. about 25mins and other people who ordered after me got their food first. Doesn't seem like the workers want to be there. Got home first bite of the crossroads was full of unchewable fatty brisket... the rest was ok. The other two I ordered I got pictures of and they were ok.. the shrimp Baja was very salty and there wasn't much fish in the Alabama shake. No COVID precautions taken AT ALL tables are the same as pre-covid, bar seats are shoulder to shoulder. No waiting space for to go orders. I was very shocked to walk in tonight to no empty tables and every bar seat filled. With no dedicated to go area I had to stand in the midst of it all. VERY disappointed that they were not limiting capacity in any way. Food was ice cold which is angering considering I had to sit around and wait for it. I only live 5 minutes from torchys.. my food could not have gotten cold in that time. My tortilla was soggy and the queso was only half full. They also didn't include the sauces I asked for. The food at Torchy's can be hit or miss, with it being good most of the time. The one thing that bothers me is the overall cleanliness of the place. On several occasions, we have walked in to Torchy's to discover that half of the tables inside have not been cleaned. In addition to this, this location smells like a gas station bathroom. I would also like to add that I do find it a little frustrating that they offer tipping as an option when we serve ourselves and bus our own tables. I'm all for providing tips to waiters, I just don't like the pressure of having to tip when no service is involved. read more

Tacos. What more do you need to know? Oh, wait, they also have amazing queso! We tried the new street corn this time and it was ok. We love that they have a bar (for the weekends) but we love our tacos TRASHY! (aka smothered in queso). The chips are golden and beautiful and fresh. I like the customer service. They take really good care of you, they are very accommodating and don't rush you. So when you walk in there are menus and you go to the counter and order. They give you a number or a buzzer and they bring out your chips and queso first, then they bring your tacos etc. They also serve breakfast tacos ALL DAY! Their brisket is amazing, the trailer park is the kids favorite (trashy of course), and my wife likes anything with seafood on it. Typically she has shrimp tacos of some sort. There is plenty of seating. If you are feeling like you aren't going to get a seat when you walk in, trust me, you will find a spot. The place moves fast! FOUNTAIN DRINKS! So, they don't have your normal run-of-the-mill Coke, DP, Sprite...they have Mexican Coke, Doppleganger (like Dr. Pepper), and other "knock off" drinks. Let me tell you they taste much better than the name brands you are used to. They also have a couple of tea options. There are diet drinks also, but again, not your typical stuff. Visited torchy's for the first time last night. Now as a taco "joint" it's kind of on the expensive side... The tacos/bowls are very creative and were good... I like the one with the brisket in it the best. The queso was good as well. It's very difficult to mess up cheese dip. If you're like me & you like your margaritas,(I always base places like this on their margaritas), for the amount of money that you pay you're getting a small water glass that is full of ice and honestly after having two margaritas each and mine was the "Patron" margarita we never felt the effects of them. After $48 on margaritas I'd skip that part. Also when you walk in and order your food at the counter there's a place to tip on your debit card... If you do order anything from the bar the bartender that makes your drinks does not get any of that tip so if you know what it's like to work in the bar business walk up to the bar and order your drinks there instead of ordering them from the counter with the food. Atmosphere was nice and a very large patio outside with lots of seating... So I have to say after spending $78 for three people and small, iced down margaritas, I like Rusty's Tacos on the square so so so much better. read more

Hot and new, more like cold and eww!!!! Worst Torchy's food and experience I've ever had. I eat at Torchy's quite often for the past few years, mostly in Austin at the original location. So I know what I should get and what I got was horrible. To start, the queso came out after the food and it like the food was cold. The numbers on the table similar to whataburger is a fail fail fail. The waitstaff walks around the location in circles looking for the customer. What a mess!!!! By the time they walk around the inside and outside with your food it arrives cold and meh to say the least. I got the chicly fajita, loaded with cold red peppers and no onions or green peppers. It was trash, kinda wet, cold and just a damn bad taco! Next up I ate the trailer park, I admit the piece of fried chicky was good but the amount of green hatch Chile peppers was wayyy to much. First time at Torchy's since it opened. Wow. What a neat treat and welcome surprise to the taco scene here in Denton. Had lunch there today. I had a brisket taco and a shrimp taco. Wow- really, really good. Great presentation. Lots of stuff in the taco...... well worth coming back to try and many other tacos they offer. I'm a fan. I will return and soon.
