So for starters, what they do well is right in the name of the business. Tacos. Yes, tacos. If you want combination plates and options with rice and beans, this may not be the place for you. But if you like TACOS... As a transplanted Texan, I always root for those Lone Star state businesses. Torchy's Austin roots run deep, and you get just enough TexMex with fusion-esque approaches in any of their tacos. This location is closer to my neighborhood (yay!) and it is the first one that I've seen with a drive-through. Pro tip: it's really worth going in, sitting down, and enjoying Torchy's 's fare vs. a quick to-go, but hey, you have options. One option you must sample is Torchy's queso. With plenty of flavor, even when splashed with hot sauce, cilantro, and just a bit of guac, this is no ordinary chip & dip. You're going to run out of chips scraping every last bit of the goodness from the mini-crock, and if you're so inclined, ask one of the friendly staff for a few more chips. Just don't waste the queso and go angering a demi-god or something. I still opt for the Democrat, pulled pork with a tomatillo salsa, but this visit had me also sampling the Brushfire, a chicken taco laced with mangoes and a searingly hot pepper sauce. The flavor of the sauce hits before the heat, and compliments the jerk-seasoned chicken, but when the heat punches, it does so with authority. Fine, whatever, I will happily sign up for that culinary punishment again and again because the Brushfire is a sensational taco. Pricing is right, think something $4-$6-ish for various tacos, but the value is spot on. Don't miss the queso, sample the margs at a friendly and comfy bar, and relax. My two tacos (Mr. Orange $5.75 and chicken fajita $4.40) were brought to my table just eight minutes after I ordered at the counter. Each taco had a good portion of protein and tasty toppings on 6" flour tortillas (thick enough to hold the contents without breaking) with tasty tomatillo salsa on the side. The salmon on the Mr. Orange taco and the grilled chicken on the fajita chicken taco were very tasty, and tasted just like they came off my grill - nice! Lemon and lime wedges were available. I was impressed with the friendly, cheerful service from each of the several employees I encountered, while the dining area was spacious and clean with contemporary background music and large, full bar with happy hour (3-6 PM M-F). This location also offers a drive-thru which opens early for breakfast. I loved having salmon as an option, but the prices seemed relatively high. Overall, very nice! read more

The kiosk to order was confusing and there wasn't anyone around to ask how to work it. The food was brought out and the server had a problem telling us which taco was which. Also asking for a tip in a place that you do almost everything yourself is ridiculous! read more

I'm always in search of a good fish or seafood taco and Torchy's baja shrimp taco hit all the requirements...nicely seasoned fried shrimp, a tasty sauce and served with a wedge of lime...so good! I also tried a Crossroads taco with smoked brisket, grilled onions and cilantro which I love! Shared s bowl of their queso and some of their chips. Yheir queso isn't quite as thick as some restaurants queso but it isn't too thin either. It aldo had a healthy sprinkling of fresh cilantro. Chips were crisp and fresh. I think we will be back to try some of their other creative tacos soon. read more

This is the best fast food restaurant in town but I only say this as tacos, chips salsa and queso are my ultimate flavor profile. They have breakfast, classic and a myriad of other tacos. Salsa actually has some spice and is hands down the best salsa I've had in a long while that could rival places on Southwest Blvd. This place used to be a Burger King and mentally you are prepared for a normal looking fast food restaurant that is overrun, not very clean, and greasy. HOWEVER, this place is wide open, clean and a cool bar vibe. Service was quick and correct. Not much more I could ask for and my children even love it which seems to be the true test. Highly recommend as many tacos as possible just to taste the variety. read more

First found Torchy's while working in Austin. I was so hyped when I found out one was opening close to my house. I would love to give it 5 stars, but I can't. When they first opened, I would have. But the quality has gone down hill. First they stop serving breakfast. This sucks as the breakfast tacos are the best, but do not want one for lunch or dinner. The last couple times we have been there the meat has been over cooked or just old and dry. Tonight we had green chile, brushfire and totm (had steak on it) the meat on the tacos was super dry and not great. Tossed the brushfire and the steak taco. Think I will have to stick to the queso from now on. read more

This is only based off of one item on their menu I think they need pictures of items so you know what you get for your money. I was curious how big the tacos were seeing that $4.50 was the cheapest I got the Trailer Trash taco I believe it's called extra trashy which means it came with nacho cheese on top I was disappointed they didn't have combo meals. Because of this and the high prices I deducted a star. The taco was fantastic. The protein was a fried chicken tender. Pico was tasty. I was surprised how good it was. I know most people will think this place has a solid taco but end there. The thing is, this area has nothing else like it. Fuzzy isn't even in the sane league so don't bring their cold food up. We ask salsa is available outside she said we have to order so we order two salsa instead we got two chips and huge salsa orders. Very disappointed. The chips are tasty but a little salty for my taste. Meat is heavily salted as well. If you have hangover then the food may taste better. I asked the girl how big taco is she said 6inches and most people ordered two so I did but one taco filled me up. So we took home one taco and chips and a lot of salsa that we don't need. We ordered two Palomas, which is a grapefruit tequila drink and got what tasted like two of the spiciest margaritas we have ever had. Zero grapefruit in it. Not what we ordered at all. We asked the bartender if we could give them back and get the two Palomas we ordered and he said, 'that's just how we make them and all of our tequila is infused with habaneros'. We set down our $15 dollars in drinks and walked out. Horrible customer service. You can't hand someone an entirely different drink and call it a Paloma. We also ordered six tacos and got home and there were only four in the bag. Never going back. read more

Where has this been all my life? SO GOOD!!! We were in town from STL for a soccer tournament and figured we try a new place. We were in a hurry so we drove through and somebody took our order. He was fantastic!!! Fast and friendly service and quality food. The guac, and queso are fantastic. The tacos are fresh and delicious. Loved the burrito as well and the house margs are fantastic. The food is good I enjoy eating here on occasion and the staff is nice as well the vibe is fast food but maybe upscale fast food so not too bad. The reason for 3 stars is they are expensive for what you get, while the tacos are unique and tasty they are expensive and the tacos are small it would take me 4-5 tacos are so for a meal and at average around 5 bucks per taco that's over 20 bucks per person at that price I think I'd rather go to a local taco shop. They do have great queso though. Definitely try it out the food is great but not a lot of bang for your buck. read more

Overpriced tacos. Go to a place where you will get the real deal, for the price of 2 or 3 tacos, you can get a better meal somewhere else guaranteed. After hearing good things about Torchy's, we were surprised at how few people were there at a dinner time service. Until we got our food. The tortillas were cold from the fridge, the toppings were room temp at best. The meat might have tasted better if it were hot, instead it was cold and tough as shoe leather. What we learned last night is we are never going back there again. Hopefully whatever restaurant that takes over when they go bankrupt will serve more edible food. read more

Ordered tacos and a side of chips and salsa to go- did not realize that each of our tacos also came with salsas and sauces too, we weren't sure which went with what so we just mixed and matched! We tried the Trailer Park, Republican, and Chicken Fajita- didn't notice a huge difference in the toppings on top of each taco's protein. Came for a work lunch. Had these in Austin before and it's been too long since I've had my Torchy's fix. Great flavor combinations and we had great service while we were there. If you are looking for a nice place to sit down, have a drink with something to munch on, sure this place will do. I just think with their improv menu and price, this is not going to be my go-to lunch/ dinner place. Tacos are tacos, how expensive should they be? It was ok! I've eaten at their Dallas locations a few times so I was stoked to see there was one so close to home. Their drive through was really well managed, and surprisingly went through really fast! Ordered the Baja shrimp, brushfire, Democrat and crossroads along with queso and chips, and their Diablo salsa with chips. Their simplistic tacos tasted much better, as the Baja shrimp and brushfire were overly seasoned and way too salty. I do wish their Diablo salsa had a more pepper and spice taste, it was very tomato-y. Will definitely have to come back during happy hour to sample their drinks too. read more

Hit the busy time here....Friday night! In spite of that we got our food in good time. Ordered an array of tacos....The Republican, The Democrat, Brushfire, Baja Shrimp & Green Che Pork but all got the Chile Queso/chips. Appreciate that they have a bar & choices of some margaritas . The Torchy Rocks w/ salt & Cherry Limeade(?) served in colorful glasses prior to our chips & queso. I was pleasantly surprised that our items all came out in a timely manner. Even better was all the food hot & was made fresh. Recommend that u read what sauces come with the tacos as I made a mistake by dousing the Brushfire taco with their Diablo sauce. It was too hot for me to eat but not for my BF. Each taco had a large helping of protein which makes them worth their $4ish asking. U can specify which type of tortilla u want: corn or flour. I liked all my choices but we request the poblano or tomatillo sauce with the Brushfire (Jamaican Jerk Chicken) so I can appreciate the seasoning more. This place a a winner in my book!
