I finally made my first Tori Richard shirt purchase. Constantly swayed by the high price point, I gave in as I've always admired their bold and colorful patterns. HISTORY: Established in 1953 by Chicago apparel manufacturer Mort Feldman, spouse Janice Moody and pattern maker Mitsue Aka, the company's name was derived from one of Janice Moody's children, Victoria, and one of Mort Feldman's children, Richard. They started out as a women's resort wear line and added its now more dominant male wear in the 1970's. EXPERIENCE: Yes, there are locations on my home island of Maui but I have more fun shopping at Ala Moana. Staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. The boutique is bright, organized and well-stocked with apparel in all colors of the rainbow. I chose a purple-based shirt with colorful palm fronds and streams as my initial buy at $120. OVERALL: With Quiksilver's unstable future, yawning designs from Calvin Klein and molasses-like releases from Uniqlo, Tori Richard is my new go-to. Hope the quality is equal to my faves. read more

Service: Zero stars at the Ala Moana Center Store on 12/30/25 at around 1 pm. 5 stars at the Kailua Store on 12/30/25. Two associates at the Ala Moana Store saw me looking for something but ignored me (and I was the only one in the store!). When I finally caught one associate's attention, she curtly told me that the item I was looking for was sold out and that the only way to get it was to buy it on-line. They did not bother going into their computer to see if the item was available at any of the other TR stores. So I came home and called their Kailua Store. Night and day in providing service! Kailua called and advised me that my item was available at their Outrigger Store and at their ALA MOANA STORE. Say what??! Ala Moana said they could not transfer the item to Kailua (??) and that I had 24 hours to pick it up. Now, I live in Kaneohe so it's quite a trek back and forth from my house to Ala Moana. Imagine how much time I would have saved if only those two lazy associates had bothered to check their inventory in the computer when I first came in. Of course, I drove all the way back to the Ala Moana Store where I was assisted by a different extremely helpful associate (not the two unhelpful associates, thank goodness). Value: Auwe! $288 for a dress? $598 for a caftan? I used to love the styles that TR made. They must have lost their designer because the styles that have recently come out are absolutely hideous. Who puts raffia trim on a shift? How the heck do you launder that? And another style had ostrich feather fringe on a muumuu style dress. Ugh. Change your designer, please! Tori Richard at Ala Moana shopping center is a rather high-end Aloha wear clothing store located at the Diamond Head and of the shopping Center, Mall level close to the Apple Store. A lifelong friend gave me a beautiful shirt for my birthday. However she thought I was a size medium. Unfortunately, I didn't check the size of the shirt until I had an opportunity to wear it and then discovered that it was a size too small. Along with that shirt was the gift receipt to exchange the item. I didn't realize that it was only a 30-day window. Fortunately, the assistant manager Jess accommodated an even exchange for a size large. The beautiful prints on the clothing adorning the mannequins in the window draw me in. Every single time! The color combos and graphic prints speak to me. The black, pink and white plumeria print top caught my eye and I had to wander in. The store is clean, organized and well styled. The dressier clothing in fronta and a large room in the back has beachwear in lots if fun colors and prints. The store is much bigger than it looks. It is narrow but deep so make sure to make your way all the way around. Prices are reasonable for a designer shop. Quality is high. The cute top in the window is $98 but I had to pass because it's a crop. If it was standard length I would be wearing it right now! Accessories like sunglasses, scarves, handbags and shoes are also sold here. Plus men's clothing and children's. With prints that coordinate and match across all lines. Customer service is friendly and never pushy. I love when they let me browse uninterrupted. Offer help and let me do my thing. read more

I was leaving the store and I gave 3 items to EMME at The Ala Moana Store. She asked me where the 4th item was. I had already re-hung the 4th. The salesperson was accusing me of stealing. Love their stuff - good quality and fantastic fit especially with pants and shorts - as a stocky guy it's hard to find pants that fit good but TR pants' fit is great with their 30" inseam. However, living on the East coast, there are no stores around so returns must be mailed - and TR charges a $12 shipping fee. Minus 1 star for that. Also, I ordered a pair of pants and the fit was terrible (unlike their usual great fit) so I posted a review on the TR website. The review was there after I first posted it a few months ago but today I happened to look and it was removed. In fact, you won't see any negative reviews on their site. It was my first time shopping at Tori Richard. I was shopping during the holidays...looking for a set of masks for my husband. I was lucky enough to find reversible designed mask. A set of 5 masks was $58 but the day I shopped...they had a special game...scored 30% off. The masks were very soft and comfortable for my husband. He is very happy because it is reversible designed. He gained 8 different designed altogether. One mask had the same designed because of the type of material that was being used...could not be combined with a different material. The other designed was used twice because they only have 8 different prints. The prints are from their extra materials from their Tori Richard Collection. read more

Beautiful designs! They sell Hawaii made clothing with island living inspired patterns. The material of the clothing does not wrinkle and can be washed in washer without having to be dry cleaned. I love Tori Richard dresses... but the service I received today was really really bad... I have around 7 dresses from here, and while I don't expect them to pour me a glass of champs, I do expect sales people that are not rude. I purchased another dress today, however, I wish I didn't because the sales people were really rude. It seemed as if they couldn't be bothered to help me... and when I finally got the attention of a sales associate, he seemed to not want to be helping me. The clothing alone gets 5 stars. The quality is great which is why I continually purchase Tori Richard. Sales associates Cat who originally assisted me in a getting a shirt transferred gets 5 stars as well with Alma who assisted me on the day I went in store to exchange the item. The one star comes from the experience I received while waiting to be rung up. As I was being rung up by Alma, an older sales associate seemed so upset that my transaction was taking a bit longer. What upset me even more was the grunting attitude that I heard so I had said "don't worry it'll soon be done and you can ring up your customer next." Alma apologized to me for her attitude. I told Alma that if the tables were turned and if she did that to the other associate I'm sure she would get upset. I was going to purchase another Aloha shirt but I changed my mind and will go to the new Kahala Mall location where you don't need to be a tourist to be treated nicely. They treat everyone including locals with great customer service. So do yourself a favor drive further and go to Kahala Mall! read more

The people working at the store were nice. Their cash register system stinks. I simply wanted to buy 2 candles. Stood around for over 15 minutes while the cashier tried to get the register to function - the system may have gone down. Had other things to take care of and a timeline to keep to so offered to complete my other errands & return. When I returned, the candles were rung up & paid for but no receipt was printed. Again, more waiting around for over 10 minutes...while the cashier struggled with getting the register to respond & simply print the receipt. So it took over 25 minutes to purchase 2 candles. Great clothing, infuriating customer service experience. We are a local family and decided to come into this store to purchase aloha shirts for a wedding. Now a days our expectations are low when it comes to customer service but this experience was different. It set the bar even lower! As we perused this shop, we made eye contact several times with the a sales associate (older lady, shorter) who was hunched over a glass case in the middle of the store. She didn't say hello or asked if we needed help, and kept looking at the entrance of the shop. I work in sales and marketing and I had a hunch that she was profiling/pre-qualifying shoppers as they walked in. When a couple of tourists walked in, she perked up, dashed past us and greeted them with, "Hi! Can I help you look for something?" My husband and I noticed it right away, and although there were a couple of pieces I wanted to try on and purchase... we walked out. Thankfully, our day turned around after a positive experience at Reyn Spooner! It was a few doors down and we were grateful for that sales person. We happily purchased items at that retailer instead. I wish I got the name of the salesperson at Tori Richards. It's ironic that for a shop that sells aloha shirts, the experience is quite the opposite of aloha. Very disappointing. read more

I asked for a size small to try, she came back with an apology that there was no size small and that was it. No further assistance was offered. A few weeks out from my wedding, my fiance and I did a 180 and decided the groomsmen would not be wearing tuxedos. Instead we wanted a sophisticated, but tropical dark blue long sleeved shirt for them. First and last stop was Tori Richards. At first glance, our hearts soared as the perfect shirt was right in front of us. Then our hearts sank as we realized they only had one. Our salesperson Aaron was on it, however, and quickly confirmed that he could get us 3 more in the sizes we needed within 3 days! As promised, 2 days later the call came from Aaron that the shirts were on their way and would be ready for pick up the next day. What a great example of service in a world where most forget these basics. Did I mention the shirts are perfect? High quality materials, not short cuts and consistent on each one. I like this store a lot. The workers are very friendly and they are very attentive. I think the styles of shirts are pretty modern and beautiful to look at. I especially like the shirts that have 3% spandex. It's really soft and very comfortable. It also stretches and fits nicely to one's body. I was on the hunt for a somewhat dressy new aloha shirt for a special occasion. After Macy's, Nordstrom's, Reyn Spooner, and Tommy Bahama, I headed over to Tori Richard with my hopes high. Jackpot! Literally! Upon entering the store and heading over to a promising looking rack, clerk Kiana chased me down so I could draw from her glass bowl of coupons. I drew a $100 certificate. That made it much easier when I found not just the one perfect shirt that had eluded me at the other stores but two great candidates. I got them both, at pretty much the price for one, so now I'm set for that next special event. Bottomline: Best assortment of dressy aloha wear for men at Ala Moana. Use to love this brand, but they have discontinued the "Brown" label (casual ,original fit) and want you to buy larger sizes 2X,3X ( tall) in the"Orange" label ( tight fitting), I guess they want to join "Abercrombie & Fitch" and exclude any larger size person from buying their product. They also use to be exclusively "Made in Hawaii", but you will see some product made in " Indonesia and China " I was told that " precision stitching" is too expensive in the USA, so they outsource it to countries with much cheaper labor. ( Guess we're not making America Great Again ) In conclusion if " Made in America" or "Size discrimination " are important to you, use your purchasing power at another clothier. Ps . Tori Richard's designs are classic yet tend to push the envelope a bit. More intricate patterns and use of silk differentiates their designs from all the other Aloha Shirt designers. They also have a very light and breathable cotton blend that is really nice. Some of the designs do tend to drift into the Tommy Bahama arena, unfortunately. I enjoy the classical to modern Aloha Shirt, not so much the Margeritaville type. Since they are one of the premiere brands, their shirts can also be found at almost any department store throughout the islands. This location has a very deep and rich color scheme which goes well with the tropical feel of the clothing lines. Every now and then they also sell locally made jewelery. read more

I used to praise about your shirts and have spent hundreds of dollars every year buy the Christmas and Chinese New Year series shirts for myself and as gifts. During this past year I have experienced quality issues with some shirts, the material deteriorate with time. I have on two separate occasions bought shirts with material defects to the Ala Moana store hoping it will get management's attention and also left my telephone number with the clerk hoping I will get a call from someone to discuss the quality issues because I really like the designs of the shirts and I am concerned about what I am experiencing with my shirts. I am writing this review after I have discovered more defect while ironing one of your shirts at home. The material near the button holes are falling apart. I don't want to remain silent about the quality issues anymore. I will also not be buying any more shirts from your company. read more

I can't believe I got snubbed! You ever see the movie Pretty Woman where the character Julia Roberts walks into a department store and gets snubbed by the workers because they prejudged her and deemed her less desirable as a customer who probably couldn't afford anything in the store? Well that happened to me but I'm a dude! I went to the store to go get me some new Aloha gear and when I walked in I saw two haole workers chatting, one male and one female, as I approached and got closer, they look at me for just a second and then turn their heads and walked away. What! What's even worse is the female started to unfold shirts that were already folded just so she can fold them again to look busy, lmao, reallly! She didn't even bother to lift up her head to look and acknowledge me. The male worker was doing something even more weird he was acting like he was counting shirts. But I needed some Aloha gear so I browsed around for a good 5-10 minutes, I even walk by them and said hi and they just kept folding and counting their shirts. Am I a ghost, am I dead, I looked around and I was the only one in the store. So of course I left and went a few stores down to the Reyn Spooner store, it was like day and night. They were so eager and happy to help me. I wanted so badly, like in the movie Pretty Woman, to go back to the Tori Richard's store and say, "look! I can afford $100 aloha shirts, I'm an RN and I can afford anything in this mall and I probably make more money than you, bye Felicia". That wasn't exactly what was said in the movie but you get the point. The last time I experienced that kind of behavior from haole people was when I was stationed in the south. I've always liked the Tori Richard ads and because of the ads I've longed to own a TR dress. I have an event coming up and I thought this would be the perfect time to purchase a TR dress. I walked into the store today and was completely ignored. There were 2 women standing behind the register. One was helping a customer and the other just looked at me and said nothing. No greeting or welcome. I looked around the store and actually saw some beautiful designs that I would have loved to try on but felt truly ignored. Both sales women eventually came out from behind the cash wrap area but didn't offer help or any acknowledgement. Husband & I stayed at the Ilikai Hotel (the famous Hawaii 5-0) recently and was delighted to find a local boutique selling Tori Richards. Yes these are expensive shirts but are well made than the basic aloha shirts. Similar to Tommy Bahama line but we think better in the way of variety and style. We especially like the embroidered shirts as they are different and whimsical. One shirt had a martini glass with a gold fish swimming in it on the back while on the front breast pocket, there were tiny bubbles until you looked inside and find a gold fish blowing up bubbles! Too cute! This boutique also sold basic items in case you forgot to pack swimsuits, sunscreen, sarongs, hats, etc. Sorry, forgot the name of shop. read more
