Penne Vodka and plenty of it !
    Gus G.

Well what a great place this is. Walked in one night with my wife and had pan vodka slice with chicken and it was delicious ! My wife decided last minute to have penne Vodka. It came out super fast and piping hot. So now this is our go to place for Italian take out. I have since tried the baked Ziti and it was very good and a huge order.

Placed an order at 6pm for delivery specifically for 8pm to SIUH North. Received a text saying order was out for delivery at 6:17pm. I called the restaurant making sure my order would arrive at 8pm as break times in my department are very exact. Was told by an employee yes it was just saying its out for delivery to clear the list and make room for other orders. At 6:55pm I was called and said my order is delivered and being left with security. I called the restaurant back and was told "you can't just heat it up anywhere" I said that's not the point. The food will be cold when it's time for my break. Was then told after being placed on hold "there's nothing I can do". I hung up.

I took some days to let my experience simmer and truly give you a fair take on this cafe…read more I was there on a Saturday for a late breakfast date with my wife-it was on what seemed not too busy Memorial Day weekend. As my wife and I entered the cafe, we were exposed to the beautifully exposed brick, the warmth of wood all around and well appointed finishing touches. The coffee bar was gorgeous and the ambience was warm and inviting (big ++ on the games on the shelf). Both rooms were nicely decorated with lots of space (they also have a patio) definitely a 5 out of 5 on the decor and look! Our order consisted of the Ultimate sandwich for me-it was really delicious sausage, bacon, arugula, runny-egg w/ Aioli on a brioche bun that was buttery, it was well balanced with lots of flavor, paired with their drip coffee (reg cup of coffee) which was an about 6oz cup...they call it a large as stated on their menu but feels more like a small cup (by the way, surcharge on the bit of milk which they pour in). Coffee was smooth but small and no refills-kind of had my head scratching, but it is a cafe I guess that is the norm. My wife had the breakfast plate (scrambled eggs, homes fries and sausage. Home fries were very crunchy and flavorful, sausage had tons of flavor as well , the egg was season well, but the plate came with no bread of any kind, I wish they would pair it with a baked good to tie it all together. She tried their iced Tiramisu latte but it was under-whelming-sorry guys but it did lacked flavor for a specialty item, it seemed to only have chocolate syrup-nothing really that would say Tiramisu, like cold foam, no cinnamon, not even the cookie that is on their Insta account. Food overall was a 4 out of 5 only because of the coffee was subpar. The service, and here is where I think they really need help. If you are in the service industry, you really need to bring your game with every customer that comes through your doors, not just your regulars. Your service and attention to detail will bring the whole experience to another level. Unfortunately, from the bar, to the servers, they lacked skills that comes with experience. **Tips-train staff to be hospitable , and don't surcharge items (increase the price by buck or 2 to even out the cost). Would I give it another try-yes, would I recommend-yes.

The morning of our event there was snow on the ground, and Danielle, one of the owners, personally called early to confirm everything was still on. She shoveled herself out and drove in from New Jersey to make sure the coffee bar was set up and ready. That level of dedication and professionalism truly stood out. The coffee bar itself was a huge hit. They offered espresso drinks, cappuccinos, flavored lattes, oat milk options, and iced selections -- all made fresh to order. The quality was excellent and truly café-level, not just standard event coffee. The iced lattes were especially popular with our guests. The setup was polished and professional, the baristas were friendly and efficient, and it added such a fun, elevated touch to the brunch. If you're planning a wedding event, shower, or special celebration, I highly recommend Beans & Leaves. Exceptional service, delicious coffee, and a team that genuinely cares about your event.

One table had a group of senior women catching up; another of two kids enjoying their waffles; and a third of a customer enjoying her solitude with a book in hand. Interestingly, even with the low music, the acoustics made it difficult to hear the person I was with. There was so much chatter in the space! Still, I enjoyed my time. This was my first visit, so I asked the cashier what he'd recommend for toasts. What was suggested were the avocado toast or the ricotta with fig jam and arugula toast. I went for the latter! I paired it with a hibiscus/cranberry tea called Angel Fall Mist, apparently a fav among customers. All in all, the meal was delish!!! The fig jam was not too sweet and was complemented well by the ricotta cheese. $9 for the toast plus tax came out to $10.89. The tea total was $3.27. Pretty affordable, I'd say! If you're in the neighborhood, I highly recommend it!
