Unique in that it wasn't chocked full of cream but still had chunks of crab, egg, and veggies. The duck will never get old. It's a really nice portion. And really the only time I enjoy a protein without other sides with it. The way they do seating sucks for walk-ins though. I tried 3 different times to make a reservation. They don't even have voicemail working, so you have to call during restaurant hours. The old host guy is borderline rude as well. Not my cup of tea. read more

Really loved my experience here for valentines day in 2023. 2024 was more mixed. No anchovies on Caesar which was disappointing. Prefer the the ribeye to the house cut bone in fillet (?). Thats just on me, cook on the steak was good. Bread and butter were excellent and piping hot. Shrimp cocktail was good, shrimp were a little tough. Didn't love the duck. Sauce running across the plate looked like the duck was bleeding out its juices. Lobster tail was okay. I think the company that owns tornado and tempest do really good work. I feel now really certain now that if you want seafood, just get it at tempest since they always nail. And stick to red meat at tornado. read more

Busy spot even on weeknights. I came with a big group and they put us in the private club room which was awesome. The menu is pretty much what you'd expect from a steakhouse. They have a variety of different cuts as well as non-steak items like lamb chops and duck breast. Portion sizes are huge so be prepared to be stuffed. I had the lamb chops which was really good. I've been to the tornado room several times now. Each time I go I'm never disappointed. The food is so good, especially for the price point. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu! During dinner service you receive fresh baked bread & crudités. Your main will usually include a choice of soup or salad. Be sure to save room for dessert! What makes the tornado room extra special is its late night menu. Most of the prices are half priced compared to the dinner menu. Not to mention they have their fabulous steak sandwich! It's a must! They also have soup, salad, appetizers, sides, and I believe one or two steaks available on their late night menu as well. Their late night ambience is more casual which was perfect when you're starving after a concert. Quick and lovely service as always, even during their late night hours. I walked in earlier tonight at Tornado Steakhouse alone to get a steak and found a seat by the bar window, next to another guest! I had some conversations with patrons at the bar and after dinner, was denied to get a martini by the bartender on duty. There was a professional photographer outside taking pictures of the Tornado which I engaged with, and shortly after they would not acknowledge me. We haven't been to the Tornado Steak house for years and were in the mood for a good steak so here we are. We lucked out and got seats at the bar so waited in comfort with some well made cocktails! This is one bar where the bartenders really know how to make a Manhattan and do it fast. It is pricy at $13 bucks a pop but that's the going rate on high end cocktails these days. The steak I got was an excellent 28 oz bone in ribeye for $72 dollars but it came with a great wedge salad and hash browns which made it a good value. Well sort of. My wife had a filet and caesar salad which was equally good. Everything was cooked perfectly and the food came in a reasonable time frame.. The evening came with a big price tag but we only do it around once a year and it was worth it. There are a couple of other steak places around but they kill you with the price of the sides which I hate. This was a truly an excellent dining experience. read more

I was pleasantly surprised! I dig the dark atmosphere with the red booths and that old school vibe. They start you off with a relish tray of carrots, celery, olives, etc in a glass of ice. I loved it. The French onion soup is quite decadent and very tasty. They also serve you a small loaf of fresh bread. My wife and I split the filet mignon and baked potato. We went here for New Year celebration and were so delighted to welcome the new year here. We got seated in the basement and loved it. It gave me the 1920 vibes, so cool and so quiet. Of course, we got steak and it was delicious. We also got a king crab bisque and it was so good. I never had crab bisque before and was happy with the experience. I've eaten at this iconic supper club before and had a great experience. This time my 5 siblings and I were in town to enjoy a weekend together and finally scatter my parent's ashes. We were in high spirits and enjoying the excellent cocktails and the attentive service when Marge the Hostess came over and shushed us. We were seated in the smaller room and it was noisy and lively in there. Having a 6 person conversation would create some noise- but we certainly weren't untoward. It definitely popped our joyous mood. This is a Wisconsin Supper Club after all - not a "Fine Dining " French Restaurant ( even though we spent over $600). The evening was ruined and unfortunately the weekend tarnished. I reached out to the management but crickets. I guess the restaurant is so busy now they can afford to be rude to its customers. Not sure how long they can rest ontheir reputation though before people start dining elsewhere. Lots of great restaurants in Madison so maybe spend your $600 elsewhere if you want to enjoy your evening talking with your dining companions. read more

What an amazing experience! Set your clock back 60 years (except for the prices) and go for it! I started with the French Onion soup and then had the bone in tenderloin which was cooked perfectly and surpassed anything I have had at Mortons, Flemmings, Ruth Chris, etc. My wife started with the Caesar salad and then the 8 oz filet. Both were terrific. We shared a very nice and reasonably priced Napa cabernet. To finish the meal, we shared the chocolate layer cake. So good! May I say buzz kill? My five siblings and I (all senior citizens) went to the Tornado Room for our reunion, hoping for delicious food in an iconic setting. That happened, and also we had great service. But it's funny how one off-putting comment by the "host" Marge really pricked our bubble. We were in a loud buzzy room, and apparently we were too loud for other patrons. Totally get that. But instead of a friendly reminder to keep it down, we felt like school kids taken to the whipping post by how Marge spoke to us. It was frankly humiliating and ruined our evening in many respects. Marge could not/would not respond to our attempt to discuss the situation with her. As much as the Tornado room has a well-deserved reputation, we will not return. Tornado steakhouse is a mainstay of Madison Wisconsin, make sure that you take the front entrance not the bar entrance in the back as it will make you feel very claustrophobic. We ordered the 28 ounce bone in ribeye steak, with the hashbrowns and the sea scallops. The entire meal was excellent the steak was cooked to perfection rare, and the scallops were not overcooked. The mashed potato that came with the scallops was also creamy and delicious. The only issue that I have is that the service took over an hour to get my order, we did have VERY GOOD servers that refilled our drinks and brought us bread. however I was not there to eat bread. I do understand a good food takes time and I don't expect my steak to be done right away but one hour is too long to wait. read more

My date's bone in fillet was horrible. My Steak Diane was very tough and overly seasoned with mustard. I could not eat it. I was a little surprised that the wait staff seen I only took a bite and didn't inquire if there was anything wrong with it. Especially when I did not want a to go box. It is sad that the steak there has become cheaper quality, but yet still highly overpriced. Someone suggested that I take the money I spent on that bad meal and give it to a charity. Came here for a celebration dinner while on vacation. Overall the food was really good. The biggest confusion is that there are two entrances (the bar and the main entrance). Main entrance is off the patio and the bar is off the street around back. Seating at the bar is first come first serve, but tables at the bar area are still reservation only. I highly recommend making a reservation if you want to eat here because even with a reservation we waited a bit for our table and maybe ask to sit not in the bar area. We sat there and the booth table was very small and couldn't fit all the food, but the booth was cute. read more

Stopped in with my mom a few weeks ago for a late Mother's Day / early birthday dinner. I love the vibe in this place it really feels like a classic Wisconsin supper club. For our main course we both started with a wedge salad, classic and no complaints, great flavor. My mom got the 8 oz fillet and a baked potato. The fillet came with a huge onion ring as well. She was a bit disappointed in lack of seasoning on the steak but otherwise enjoyed her meal. Steak was cooked true to temp (medium rare). I ordered the rabbit and Brussels sprouts which also came with greens. Rabbit was tender and flavorful, not game-y at all. We both ordered a couple drinks throughout dinner - cocktails were consistently made and wine was great (can't remember which wines we enjoyed). Our server was attentive and knowledgeable on the food and drink menu and with any questions we had. Very kind and professional. Partway through the dinner we realized we had a previous connection with him so it was fun to reconnect and chat throughout the remainder of the meal! He heard we were celebrating and brought us out complimentary key lime pies which were delicious and a great end to the meal. Only reason for one less star in review is for not full bar ingredients and under seasoned steak for such an iconic Madison steak house. The food was amazing. The 28oz ribeye was perfectly cooked to exactly medium which as you know is always the hardest part of ordering a steak at restaurants. The flavors had us eating the remaining steak off the bone which made us happy they stuck us outside on the patio. First time eating walleye and definitely will be eating it again. The patio made me feel like we were in a page out of a fairytale being so quaint. My little family and I decided to try Tornados as a last minute decision while stopping in Maddison for the night. This place is definitely one you can tell you need reservations and dress to impress but nonetheless we walked in after driving 4 hours and they were extremely kind and we got lucky getting a table. This location is going viral on social media and I know why!! I arrived with my family and the staff seated us but they never came back! They are racist and the drinks are watered down. If you are black do not eat here The white patrons came in after we did and had their food and drinks. They just left my beautiful black family sitting there until we walked out. This is a whites only establishment. They just don't put the sign up on the front door like they did in the 1950's!! Do not recommend and they have 5 health violations!!
