We made the drive from Las Vegas to play Torrey Pines, and it was worth every mile. This is one of those bucket list golf courses that completely lives up to the hype. The course is in phenomenal condition, with beautifully maintained fairways, immaculate greens, and breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean throughout the round. Watching the hang gliders soar overhead while you're playing makes the experience even more memorable. The South Course is definitely challenging, but that's part of what makes it so much fun. You can tell you're playing on a course that's hosted major championships, yet it's still a public course that anyone can experience. Every hole feels unique, and you'll find yourself stopping more than once just to take in the scenery. After the round, we ate at The Grill at Torrey Pines overlooking the course. The food was delicious, the service was friendly, and relaxing on the patio with those incredible golf course views was the perfect way to end the day. The Grill at Torrey Pines is absolutely worth checking out if you're playing a round. It pains me so much to leave this review. Extremely disappointed by how a battery assault incident was handled by the Torrey Pines supervisor Jack. Torrey Pines has been my favorite golf course in San Diego. As a San Diego resident, I could not be more disappointed by what happened today and, especially, by how the situation was handled by the Torrey Pines supervisor, Jack. During my round, another player became involved in a heated disagreement with us. The situation escalated, and he physically assaulted me with his putter, forcefully striking me in the chest. I did not retaliate. I left the situation and called 911 to report that I had been assaulted. Police responded, along with emergency personnel, and documented the incident. The responding officer provided me with a police report number and told me that I was being treated as the victim of a misdemeanor assault and battery. Afterward, I went to the pro shop because I wanted to understand what action the course would take regarding the other player. I was not asking for anything unreasonable. I simply wanted to know whether the player would be removed from the course after a physical assault had been reported. Unfortunately, my experience with the supervisor, Jack, was extremely disappointing. I initially spoke with him at the pro shop, and he told me that the course had not yet made a decision and that he would get back to me. I later called the pro shop twice to follow up (1 got through) because I had not heard anything. I was simply trying to understand what action, if any, the course was taking regarding the other player. Instead of addressing that question, Jack told me that I was being "pushy" and accused me of "harassing" him. He also brought up the number of police officers and emergency personnel who had responded, as though that was something I had requested or controlled. I had simply called 911 to report that I had been assaulted by a single individual ; I had no control over how the police or emergency services chose to respond. The conversation ultimately ended with Jack telling me that he did not want to "deal with this anymore" and hanging up the phone on me. I understand that there may be conflicting accounts of an incident and that management may need to follow a process before making a decision. I also understand that the course may not be able to disclose every detail of its decision-making process. What I found deeply disappointing was the lack of support and the way I felt my concerns were dismissed after I had reported being physically assaulted. I've attached a screenshot showing my two calls to the pro shop, made simply to follow up on what decision the course had made regarding the other player. For doing so, I was accused of "harassing" the supervisor. Torrey Pines is a City of San Diego municipal golf course, and I expected a much more professional and supportive response from the management of a public facility. This is especially disappointing because Torrey Pines was previously my favorite course in San Diego. After this experience, I no longer feel comfortable returning. read more

I would not recommend staying at this place. I paid for my room at the time of booking, but when I checked in, I was charged almost $1,200 again as if I had been charged twice. Because of this mistake, I was told it would take another 3-5 business days to get my money back. As an apology, they offered to comp my breakfast and gave me four free drink tickets. However, when I checked my bank account, I noticed I was charged an additional $200 plus other unexpected charges. I also specifically requested a room with a great ocean view. The front desk assured me I would have an amazing view, but instead, I ended up looking at someone else's window and bushes. This was very disappointing and not what was promised. I called and spoke with someone who said they would look into it and call me back, but it has now been a month and I still have not heard anything. The lack of communication, inaccurate room expectations, and poor customer service have been extremely disappointing. This experience alone is enough that I would not return. read more

Torrey Pines is visually one of the best courses I have ever played. With some of the most beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean that can be found at a golf course, it has an unforgetable view. The cliffside views from the course are what make this course so enjoyable as well as the conditions and layout of the course. The City of San Diego owns and operates the public municipal course that is Torrey Pines. The course is one of the top municipal owned golf courses in the nation and is home to many national and international golf events. These include the Farmers Insurance Open and the United States Amateur Championships Typically tee times may be booked up to ninety days in advance at the resort. There are two eighteen hole championship courses on the property that include the North Course and the South Course. The North Course was completely redesigned and the project was finished in 2016 and it improved the playing experience and the views for players. Both are courses that have incredible views of the ocean along with hole locations from the cliff sides that will provide an experience for every round. It would be wise to check out the local rules and get familiar with the course layout before playing. Torrey Pines is a must see and should be on every golfers to visit list and play at least once in their lifetime! read more

Our group of 10 traveled from out of state for a golf trip, and playing here was one of the highlights we had planned months in advance. We made our reservations online exactly 90 days before our tee time. The cost per player was definitely on the high side, especially with the additional $50 per person non-refundable booking fee, but for a bucket-list experience, we felt it was worth it. Fortunately, we were able to secure back-to-back tee times for the entire group. The gift shop was enormous--probably the largest golf shop I've ever visited. I would recommend checking out the discount section first, as there were plenty of quality items available at reduced prices. The staff throughout the facility were exceptionally friendly and helpful. A special shoutout goes to the gentleman handling the tee time check-in, who took the time to provide a brief history of the course, which added to the overall experience. We played the North Course, and it was extremely busy. The pace of play was very slow, making for a long day on the course. That said, the weather was perfect, and the scenery was every bit as beautiful as advertised. One unexpected highlight was watching military helicopters fly overhead throughout our round, which added a unique touch to the experience. Overall, we're glad we had the opportunity to play such an iconic course. However, given the cost and pace of play, it's probably a one-time experience for our group, and we likely wouldn't feel the need to return. read more

This first part of the review is solely based on attending the Farmers Open. Torrey Pines overall is an exclusive experience by itself, but add the Farmers Open and PGA professionals playing golf..... Wow! All the different tents and brands that are available to check out make it a pretty special place... if you can manage to get around... and if you can't afford it. The prices on pretty much everything is ridiculous. The drinks are 2 times what they cost at an outside bar. $18 for a beer!? Bruh, I'll start Sober at Torrey every time. The food variety is as expected. Nothing special, or unique to the event like Augusta has for the Masters... maybe they should create something like that. But that depends on who takes over, because Farmers might not have it after this year. Who ever takes it, should consider making a signature Open menu. Just a thought. The bathroom situation is pretty good. They kept them clean, well as clean as you can keep those things. What I didn't like about the event is all the carts. I think they're PGA and CBS people but they will literally run you over if you're not paying attention. I get that you have to get from one place to another, but be careful man! Also, I don't agree with the drivers picking and choosing who they give rides to. I saw some ladies who were older and visually needed help, but because they weren't flirty or influencer looking they just kept on moving and went straight for the drunk girls and gave them a ride to wherever they wanted to go. The merch tent is as expected as well. The prices are on the high end, but there are some cheaper items that even out the tent. This part is based on the course. I've never played here myself because it's ridiculously priced and I don't understand the booking tee time page. I have a San Diego Resident and it's to my understanding that there are days where tee times are available at $50 or so?.... Where and when, because I've never seen them pop up. But people swear they are there. So yeah, I don't believe it. Also, I've been told by people who have played here that they know ways around and get a hook up to get a good tee time. Well that's unfortunate for the general public who doesn't have these hook ups and that's probably why it's so hard to get a tee time here. The course looks immaculate and it's right by the ocean with a great view so I guess I can understand the green fees being so high, but not justifiably. Also, this is considered a municipal course right? Nothing about Torrey Pines makes it seem inviting to people who rather pay rent than play a single round of golf here. Beautiful golf course, well maintained, and gorgeous ocean views. It can definitely be intimidating to newer golfers, you won't regret playing here. The pricing is very premium and it is very hard to get reservations here, but to be expected for such a highly regarded and sought after golf course. If you are just visiting San Diego and want to try to play at Torrey, you should be planning months in advance unless you want to try to risk walking on. The driving range is fine. There are no yard markers (there are flags but no numbers) and there is a pretty big hill that makes it hard to see where your ball goes. The tee boxes were in great shape, fairways were pristine, and while the greens ran a bit slow, the pin placements (Position 4) were especially tricky--definitely kept things interesting. Pace of play was decent, just under 5 hours with a few slow spots. The GPS-equipped carts were solid--new brakes, smooth ride--and the beverage cart made frequent rounds, which is always appreciated. The back nine on the North is one of my favorites: challenging layouts, blind shots, and sweeping ocean views. I've played the South too--stunning, but brutal. Being a spectator during a PGA tour game here was cool, since the public is allowed to get close to the players but be respectful of their space or you will be escorted out by security. When there's no PGA tournament, the course is open to the general public. You can make reservations in the club house, where you can also rent the cart and golf gear for a fee $$$. There are at least two putting greens you can practice which needs no reservations. The club house shop has everything you need to play golf and look as cool as a golf pro, even if you're not lol Torrey Pines golf course is among the premier courses and is a must visit. Super nostalgic and super excited but staff at check in and cashier were absolutely terrible!!! Rude, unprofessional, short and absolutely tried to ruin our day!!! This review is for the rude man in the golf cart I just ran into and the establishment's parking restrictions. We searched for a parking spot without luck because their parking spots are tiny and even an open spot was not able to be squeezed into. The other spots open spots state park at your own risk due to errant golf balls. Some other open spots were for staff only. Since we were late for a lunch reservation we decided to park in a spot marked for pro shop patrons which was right next to the grill. The golf cart followed us to where we were going to make sure we were going to the pro shop. He didn't seem to care there were no other spots available. If I'm here to patronize your establishment I should be able to park anywhere I want within reason with handicap exceptions of course. I will not be back to this restaurant after being treated so poorly. C'mon Torrey Pines...customer service should be a must at such an upscale establishment. read more

Torrey freaking Pines! I live in San Diego and started playing golf three years ago. Finally getting out to Torrey was a golfing bucket list and it didn't disappoint. My buddy and I played Torrey North (easier of the two courses) and loved it. It's pretty wide open outside of a few holes and a lot more forgiving than I thought it was going to be. That said, don't let it fool you. lol. Torrey is Torrey (one of the best courses in the country) for a reason. The rough can be pretty tricky, scratch that they can be brutal, especially if you play before or after any of the PGA tour stops. Thankfully, we didn't play near tournament time, so it was a lot more amateur friendly. The greens were pretty quick (which I love) and there's plenty of sand to test your skills "at the beach". Most of the back 9 has views of the ocean, including a few that are right on the coastline. Beautiful. I'm a high teens handicap and I shot in the mid 80's. My buddy is a 7 handicap and shot in the upper 70's. If you're a single, you can go in the waiting list and have a good chance of getting out. Anything more than that, I'd recommend booking your tee time online to make sure you can get on. If you're a local, without question get your locals card and enjoy a very inexpensive round at one of the coolest courses most of your buddies will never play. This is a review for the driving range at the Torrey Pines golf course. Please see my photo of the operating hours. Driving range is small - maybe two dozen stalls hitting off mats. Chipping area is often closed, but when it's open, it features a large green and surrounding area with bunkers. You could easily spend hours here working on your short game. The practice putting green is next to the clubhouse and uses target sticks not actual cups (disappointing). Not a bad option for practicing your game if you are nearby, but not a destination in itself. read more

I love Torrey Pines golf course and I've played it so many times, but when I went the other day, they said the greens had been punched, but they did not tell us that the fairways had no grass and we're also punched in all sand and they charged us the same price! They charge does the same rate for the green fees and the card that they would normally charge if the course was in good shape, and I did not think that that was fair at all! So I'll give the people that run it in the city of San Diego, truly less than one star, but I will give the vistas at that golf course 5+ because it is beautiful, but they really should've discounted the price because the course was in terrible shape! So if you're on a fixed income and you want to get good, golf deals right now is not the time to go to Torrey Pines. As a local, I really like playing this course. Not to say that it's easy, but mostly for the well-manicured greens and amazing views of the ocean and coastline and you may even see some paraglides from the gliderport nearly. It's also a great experience to play where the pros play and especially for a discounted rate if you have your Parks & Recs resident ID card. Note that it is on the windier side since it's atop a cliff, hence the gliderport being nearby. Not only the greens are well-maintained but so is the rest of the property which includes a lodge, the grill and other event areas. All of the staff I have encountered here are helpful and friendly and they seem like they love working here. This is a great course and even if you don't like golfing there are a lot of other areas on the property for non-golfers. read more

This course is beautiful. You really can't beat the views/location. However, the people that work in the pro shop are AWFUL. I am not sure why they are so ill-tempered and rude. It's such a beautiful setting. Maybe they get paid peanuts and take it out on the customers. Who knows ...but after going several times over the years and having to deal with the same poor attitudes it sure seems like a problem with the culture here... and it does start you off on the wrong foot. I hope the management starts to do some better managing of their people. I've had my fill. read more

Torrey Pines is a great championship golf course that is best played by striping every fairway. If not, you probably won't find your Misses in the rough. Even during PGA tournaments, the ball is hard to find in the rough. The course is very long but flat and the weather is not always Sunny and warm, but rather very foggy with overcast. The range is not that complementary very small with mats and expensive. I would say the best way to walk on is just to show up around 2:00 PM and go directly to the pro shop starter. I've had nothing but good experiences with the pro shop customer service. Good merch too. read more

Beautiful golf course, this review is on their customer service and policies. Immediately after I tee off on the first hole I get a call that there's a family emergency. I drive off the course, return the cart, get in my car and leave the course. On my way to the hospital I call the pro shop to explain the situation, the pro shop attendant tells me that once you tee off there are no rain checks or refunds under any circumstances. So I spent $150 to hit one ball at Torrey Pines. These people are wild! read more

All serious golfers will know the name Torrey Pines when they hear it, as it is one of the most anticipated PGA Tour events of the year during the Farmer's Insurance Open. Being non-residents, we had to book our tee times 90 days in advance in order to play the North Course and South Course with an 11AM tee time. I would highly recommend doing this in advance, as these spots fill up right away. This is one of the most difficult courses I have played, but also the most fun and scenic! The green fees will be close to $600 if you're planning to play both courses as non-residents, but it's well worth the cost. The courses play around 7600 - 7800 yards from the tips, so it's a lot of fun for the longer hitters. Motorized carts can be rented; you can also walk the course, but caddies are not available. Pace of play is good and you definitely want to make reservations well in advance of your trip here.
