Tasty tacos and More! In the mood for Mexican and found this place on Yelp after a search for "Best Mex" in the area (which is the way most do Id imagine) The information on Yelp was most informative, including the menu and photos so I dialed them up for takeout. The resturant is easy to find and towards the center-right of the shopping center off Middlebrook Rd. There was a slight wait at the register for diners who missed calling ahead or maybe walked-in, but no biggie. The staff worked through the line, rang me up, and I was on my way in ~ 5 minutes. Based on the redcommendations here and visuals, decided on the Asada Quesadilla and just for good measure, since I ordered while hungry, the Asada burrito bowl as well. As for sides, got bag of tortilla chips and guacamole to top things off. Choose the medium hot sauce and found a sour cream in the take home bag as well. Digging in found the Asada Quesadilla most satisfying, chewy cheesy consistency, plenty of Asada and when dipped in the med-hot sauce, guac and sour cream heavenly. The chips proved most pleasantly suprising, appearing freshly made and uniquely flavorfull and a big step up on the grocery asile variety. The Burrito bowl was flavorful, loaded with fresh goodies (as stated on the menu) and worth going out of your way for when compared to the competition. With so many choices and protiens, (beef tongue?) likely to visit again when the craving for authentic Southwest fare. Side notes; no seating at this time, only take-out/delivery, call ahead for fast service, friendly staff and plenty of parking in the shopping center. We were in the area looking for a quick lunch and this was a perfect choice! We were able to do contactless ordering at the table upon entry. It took about 10 minutes for our food to be prepared and then we were able to enjoy it outside on a bench in the shade. The tacos were filled pretty generously and we enjoyed the fish and al pastor ones. (They were pretty heavy-handed with the cilantro, so be warned if you are not a fan of it.) The tortillas were soft and warm. I personally enjoyed my side of guacamole. It did have a strong lime taste but I think that's what gave it a little extra oomph and flavor. We also each got burrito bowls and they were filling and good but nothing spectacular (i.e. the corn and beans just seemed like they came from a can). The asada and pork were tasty meats though. If we didn't live an hour away, I would definitely be back! read more

I am so glad to have found this place! I grew up in Los Angeles and lived down the street from King Taco. That place has always been the gold standard for me. Upon moving out to Maryland three years ago, I quickly came to terms with the fact that I wouldn't find LA quality tacos out here, not to mention King Taco quality. This place definitely comes close! I had the al pastor taco and the asada quesadilla. Super delicious and with hearty portions of meat. They even have tortas on the menu! Stole a bite from my friend, and OMG THAT BREAD - so nice and thin, soft, and crispy at the same time. Amazing! They have a great condiments bar for toppings and sauces. I stupidly got a big scoop of the hottest hot sauce (in hindsight, I should've heeded the exclamation marks on the sign), and my mouth was on fire. I ended up visiting this location 5 more times in the past year. My experience has changed and I totally love their food. I think I just ordered the wrong items the first time around or wasn't ready for a authentic Mexican food experience, I was too used to Chipotle and Taco Bell. Got 3 tacos - chorizo, asada, al pastor. Not a fan of the al pastor due to the seasoning but the others were pretty good. Also got rice and beans and it was delicious- hands down the best I've had around that area! The rice flavor reminded me of Dominican rice and peas (without the peas). This is not my first time here but it might be my last. I was really disappointed this time around, I had a fish taco, tacos al pastor, a torta, taco de lengua, a sope and a dorado. (I shared with my husband I can't eat all this myself.. or maybe I can xD). The fish taco didn't even look like a fish taco it was pretty much a few pieces of fish with a bunch of close slaw that tasted like they had just took it out the fridge and put it on top. The taco al pastor wasn't bad but I've had better. It was a little dry (overcooked). The taco de lengua was okay (according to my husband) I don't like lengua. The taco dorado was the best thing I ordered. Pretty good! The torta tasted more like a steak and cheese than a torta. The soda needs more syrup. read more

This is absolutely my favorite place to get tacos. There's something about Tortacos that truly live up to your expectations on what a good taco should taste like. I got chicken tacos, and it was just amazing. It's so flavorful and with the toppings, it's out of this world. I also got the green sauce with it, which paired perfectly with it. I know a lot of people rave about this place, but it was only okay for us. I had never been and went in to do a take out order. It took quite awhile to be finished and no one told me anything about the toppings bar, etc. I just happened to see people getting stuff and filling containers for their orders, so I wandered over and figured out what to do. A little explanation about how it all works, etc. Would have been nice. When I was trying to order, I mentioned I hadn't been there before, but they didn't offer any suggestions or explain anything even after I said that. The portions were just okay and I didn't find our tacos that flavorful. My husband got one of the salads and didn't like it. The restaurant was very clean though. Won't be back anytime soon, just not our thing. read more

Decent price for three taco combo with guacamole with a decent selection of items. Staff were friendly but atmosphere was a little odd with very mexican music, cheap backboards on bar stools with nails but very clean/nice restrooms. I think if the prices were shown on the screens with the combos and a little better seating layout versus large tables it would be far more appealing. read more

Overall: Amazing quesadillas (9/10), sopes (9/10), and flan (10/10); great tacos (7/10) and burritos (8/10). Get the pollo or carnitas as the protein-- pass on the al pastor. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Food: My boyfriend and I wanted some tacos and decided to go with the highest review on Yelp in Germantown. We ordered almost everything on the menu lol. -The pollo (chicken) quesadilla was really good. I don't normally order quesadillas because the chicken is usually dry and the ingredients are cheap and not worth the price, but this one was really good. Quesadillas are simple to make, you have the tortilla, cheese, and protein. Though this one was made of the same ingredients, the chicken is what made it so great. It had a nice bbq-ed taste. I'm not talking like sweet and tangy bbq sauce, I'm talking toasty grilled-charred flavors and meat juice. -We also got 2 al pastor tacos and 1 carnitas. I love shredded pork, so the the carnitas taco was pretty good. It didn't have crazy marinated flavors, just the good ol' seasoned (probs soaked in mojo) and slow cooked pork. The al pastor was the "marinated pork" option and I can't say that I loved it. It's marinated in some sort of sweet and tangy sauce (had a few pineapple chunks in the meat). It isn't shredded pork, but little pieces of pork. I probably wouldn't order that again. -We also tried the carnitas burrito. Pretty good tex-mex-like burrito. Very soft and juicy and heavily filled with rice, pinto beans, corn, sour cream, carnitas, onions, lettuce(?), and cilantro. -After eating all that, we still wanted just a little bit more so we also ordered one pollo sope and flan. The sope is this thick, fried corn tortilla topped with protein, lettuce, and cheese. I loved it. I love corn tortillas and the pollo was probably the best protein option. -Last, but not least, we finished our meal with a little dessert. It had been a while since I've had flan and I was not disappointed. It wasn't ridiculously sweet, but it hit the spot. The custard was very creamy but didn't feel fatty. The caramel was sweet, but not teeth-tingling sweet. It was just perfect (though I would have loved to had a bigger portion, it was worth it). Cost: Our total was just a little under $30 for all that food. I thought it was a good price given how much we actually ate and the variety of what we got. The next time we go, we'd probably just order quesadillas, sopes, and flan. Atmosphere/Appearance: It kinda looked like a modernized diner that served mexican/tex-mex food. I wouldn't say the food was the most authentic mexican food that I've ever had. There is definitely a twist that makes it attractive to non-Mexican Americans. However, the place was very casual and fun. Great for families and friends. Lots of seating. Service: It is fast food-like. You can sit down, but no one is gonna serve you your food. You go up to the counter to grab it when it is ready. Though there is minimal service, I didn't mind. The staff was still very friendly and everything is easily accessible to you from the water/soda fountain to the UNLIMITED TOPPINGS BAR. I love Tortacos. I do miss the location in Gaithersburg. Used to go there all the time, but the Germantown location is very solid. I just miss seeing some of the staff and that Gaithersburg location just felt more homely somehow. By no means am I a taco connoisseur, but I am OBSESSED with Tortacos. What a perfect spot to grab some amazing, authentic, fresh tacos dressed to your liking. I have to stop myself from coming here every day. This location is very convenient nearby Giant and other shops (DSW, Bed Bath & Beyond, Petco). There are plenty of other options for eating around here, but no one serves tacos like Tortacos. Seriously. The inside is very clean. You order at the counter. You get a number, then when your order is ready, they page your number and you pick it up at the counter. You can dine in - there are several tables inside - or carry out. Your food will be packaged perfectly to ensure freshness. What especially blows my mind is the toppings bar. They give you your tacos plain, with 2 tortillas (that's how you know they know what they're doing) and generous amounts of meat. (The chicken and steak are fantastic. They also have lengua!) You can then take as many different toppings from the bar as you want. It is always so clean and full to the top, obviously well-maintained. They have salsas, mild and hot sauce (it's HOT but very flavorful), jalapeño slices, cilantro, onions, lime, etc. I suggest getting 2 of everything and going to town. The taco combo is my go-to order. You get 3 huge tacos, chips, and a drink. You can even mix and match tacos. It's a plus that the service is always fast and friendly. I came in on a very off hour (between lunch and dinner) to avoid the crowds and so I could check the place out more properly. Very relaxed, casual atmosphere with a fast-food vibe - similar to any Baja Fresh or Chipotle you've been to. Welcoming. But don't be fooled! This food will take Chipotle and Baja Fresh out back, beat them with a flavor stick and then stand there reprimanding them on what basic good quality Mexican food is. Absolutely incredible food. I've had tacos and tortas here, and I can only assume that the quality of ingredients and cooking permeates throughout their menu. General run of the mill tacos. Nothing special, nothing to write home about just food. Cold unwelcoming interior, staff that is there just to work. Tacos are dry. Like choke on them dry. Salsa bar is ok, but again nothing to make it really stand out. The hard fried tacos are the best thing I've eaten there and the quesadilla beats the tacos. So I came here because someone had said these are the best tacos and most authentic in Montgomery County. I'd have to disagree with them there, but they are probably the second most. First still goes to Ixta. They do have a really good special tho where you can get 3 tacos of your choice, with chips and a drink for $10. 75 cents extra to upgrade to the horchata. Their horchata was pretty good, not too watery, and not too overpoweringly sweet. Tacos are served on 2 corn tortillas with a toppings bar that you get to pick yourself. The thing that made me bump it up to 4 stars from 3 is the flan. It is without question the best flan i have ever had. Next time I'll try some of their other offerings. read more

What a gem to find. Super happy to finally try this place and it's now conveniently located near my new place. :) I'm not a huge guac fan, but I've been more attuned to going outside of my comfort zone and leveling up my palate these days. So, I went with the torta with carne asada meat, drink and two dorados. Came with chips too, perfect for a good price. The torta was very good, fresh, savory and melted in my mouth. Had to only eat half to finish the chips and dorados. When asking for a box, the employees we're incredibly nice and accommodating. I will certainly be back again to try more of the menu. Oh, the torts was even better the next day. I was only sad that I ate it as fast as I did and was left wishing I had more. ;) I highly recommend giving this place a shot. I have been a fan of Tortacos since visiting their first location in Gaithersburg soon after they opened years ago. When I saw they were opening a location closer to where I live, I was thrilled, . . . but a bit scared . . . tacos every day? Is that right? Is that okay? Yes. Yes it is. Well, probably . . . maybe. My favorite order is the Taco Combo, as I can get a variety of their options in the same meal. The accompanying chips are perfect with the salsa bar items or an order of chunky, quality guacamole. The pollo, yes. The al pastor, yes. The carnitas, yes. The new chorizo, yes! Burrito bowls are as you would expect, very tasty and made with quality ingredients. There are several items I have not tried, but have every intention to. It's just, when I go in there with every intention to try their sopes or quesadillas, I am lured right back to the diverse option offered by the Taco Combo . . . what am I supposed to do? Come back the next day? Maybe. This location is larger than their original, and is nicely decorated and very clean. The staff are consistent and friendly, answering any questions and double checking a take-out order as a routine.
