Very nice restaurant with welcome staff. Always stop by Costa grande for an out of country food experience. The cowfoot soup was truly amazing . If you like heat, add a bit of jalapenos.

BEST TACOS, MENUDO, HORCHATA, FAJITAS IN THE DMV! The hand made tortillas makes me want to come back everyday!! Seriously you can taste the LOVE in the food! You will not regret coming here!!

    Carne asada tacos

The best tacos I've ever had, and that's after living in Arizona and San Diego. The carne asada is perfectly made, they use homemade corn tortillas, the sauces are AMAZING. This place is SO good and definitely the closest thing to authentic Mexican food in the DMV. It's very reasonably priced too. I never leave reviews, but I just had to for Costa Grande!

    Gorditas de Carne Asada

Absolutely obsessed with this place. Every dish has great flavor, and it's one of the few Mexican places that make their tortillas from scratch each and every time! I highly recommend this spot to anyone looking to grab authentic Mexican food.

The 1800 margarita. Ive gotta explain how to make a margarita. It's shaken, not stirred and salt the rim. I learned from last time. As soon as I day down I was ready to order. But no chips and salsa. Had to ask 3 times. No water. Had to ask twice. And honestly would've ordered dessert but the server never came around again. They still get 20% auto gratuity which is crazy. No way would I be tipping 20% for this service.

They have a nice private back room for private events or their comedy shows. The main restaurant has a nice bar area and TV's for football or whatever sport. I always got the same thing, the enchiladas. Food is solid. Prices are reasonable here, which was a nice change in the 2020's. What I realized in 2024 was the enchiladas and plates are kind of on the smaller side. When I think of sit-down Mexican restaurants, I think of hearty meals, but this wasn't so hearty. I was hungry several hours later that night in 2024. In January 2025, I was here for a friend's birthday party and remembered that the portions are smaller than typical Mexican restaurants, so I added a bean pupusa to my enchilada plate, which was excellent, even better than the enchiladas, which are solid. It was a little chaotic with the number of people there, and the awkward table setup. It would've been better having that backroom, but there was a comedy show or something happening that night in there, so we made do with the long high tables put together in the middle of the restaurant. Service has always been good here overall in terms of friendliness, but a couple of times when things ran a bit slow. Also, beer pitchers were cheap too. I remember the couple of events where people split including at the January 2025, my friend's brother & his wife split beer with me. Overall, it's a good local business in the area. In spite of a few flaws, mostly good & would return again in the future.

I have had 2 successful and delicious 5 star meals at this location. Both times prior to this time, we ate inside the restaurant. Unfortunately, take out orders don't seem to get the same care and attention. First, let me say the food was very good. But, my order had issues as soon as I arrived. We asked for the spicy sauce to be taken off our fish tacos. Luckily, the hostess who took the order noticed right away, that it was made incorrectly. So, it had to be redone. We asked for pico de gayo to replace the sauce and the fish tacos were drowned in the pico. It should have been placed on the side. We were charged $1 for every salsa sauce we ordered. When you eat in the restaurant it is given freely. The chips were served cold. When, I called and asked about it, I was told these were changes that had been made last month. We enjoyed the carne asada tacos with the avocado crema. They were delicious. My grandkids loved the Spanish rice. We also really liked the tacos Al pastor. The pork and pineapple are a tasty and flavorful combination. These were great. So, was it a total loss? No, not at all..we enjoyed a lot of the meal, but when you are paying $80 for a take out dinner, you want that attention to detail that you receive when dining at the restaurant. I will definitely be back, but I will be eating inside the restaurant. That, way, I can get my margarita too.

Our server was super friendly and attentive. I love their patio! It provides good shade and overlooks a pretty courtyard--so you're not eating tons of car exhaust along with your tacos. The food was solid, but not outstanding. My tacos (chicken, cauliflower, grilled fish) were tasty, but small. I'm a big eater, so I needed to eat six to fill me up. My dining companion had the veggie burrito, which she enjoyed. If you're all about food volume for the money, you might be happier elsewhere. I highly recommend this spot as a gathering place for happy hour or to catch up with friends over drinks--especially in the nice weather!!!

Everyone in our group loved what they ordered, and the food came out quickly. The portions were generous, and every dish arrived hot and fresh, just the way we like it. We ended our meal with dessert, and it did not disappoint. The flan and tres leches cake were both amazing! The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, regularly refilling our water glasses and checking to see if we needed anything. After we finished eating, we stayed for about 30 minutes just chatting and catching up, and we never felt rushed. Overall, it was a wonderful dining experience with great food, excellent service, and a welcoming atmosphere. We'll definitely be back!

The chips were crisp and not oily; the salsa wasn't spicy, but looked fresh with chunks of tomato and onion. Very good fresh salsa. I got the vegetable fajitas ($24.99) and my partner got the Pollo Apanado ($23.99). The fajitas arrived on a sizzling platter. (The pictures I took below are a bit obscured from the steam from my platter!). It was a nice portion, with onion, peppers, tomatoes, zucchini and broccoli. The veggies were well prepared - cooked but not mushy. I asked for corn tortillas and no sour cream. Everything arrived as I requested. The Pollo was a special last night - thin chicken breast in a brown mushroom sauce over mashed potatoes with a little cheese and asparagus. Very good. The place was pretty busy on a Saturday evening around 6:30 pm, but we were not rushed at all. Unfortunately, one of the specials they offered last night (cream of crab soup) was not available. Seems a bit early in the evening to run out of a specials item, but I guess it was very popular and good!) The service was very good. Water service especially. Our glasses were never empty before someone came by to refill. The price for the veggie fajitas seems higher than the same dish at other local restaurants. I can't say I noticed a difference in quality or taste from the others.

This used to be one of my regular go-to spots, especially when I was craving a fresh veggie burrito, and this visit reminded me exactly why I loved it. I ordered my usual veggie burrito with extra cilantro, guacamole, white onions, and a little corn, and it was absolutely delicious. Every bite was fresh, flavorful, and packed with quality ingredients. One thing I've always appreciated about this restaurant is the consistency. The ingredients are always fresh, the portions are generous, and you can tell everything is prepared with care. The customer service was just as memorable as the food. The staff was kind, courteous, and welcoming, making me feel like a valued customer from the moment I walked in. It's always nice when you return to a favorite restaurant after some time away and discover that the quality hasn't changed. This visit definitely reminded me why La Gula Mexicana became one of my favorite local spots, and I'll be adding it back into my regular rotation. I was literally told "get it yourself"…read more I've been dining here since they've opened and usually love it! However, when the young woman brought my food she just set it down without saying anything, like she's dropping off mail in a box or something... They usually ask if you want anything, sauces, cutlery, etc... So when she came back around I asked if I could have a fork and knife and she grimaced at me and said "you can get it yourself behind the counter"... I reminded her there is a tip selection on check out, and she said " yes I know, I'll get you your fork, but I'm just letting you know that when you check out, you can go back there and get it yourself "with even more attitude. At that point, I told her I didn't want it anymore, and she just walked away. Disrespect for no reason...
