Updating my old review after tonight's experience. Once again we had the stingy salsa experience. This time it took three attempts to resolve it. First my partner had to come in where she argued with him when he came to get the order correct after she passed it to him with half of our order. this location is very close to burger licious in Rio Vista. While not the best Mexican food I've ever eaten. It is extremely yummy and we did enjoy ourselves. Beware, the portions are huge and large enough to share lol. The staffing servers were extremely accommodating, and the environment was very comfortable and inviting. We decided to try breakfast here today, as it has been an age since we visited. No one greeted us, so we decided to seat ourselves. Only one other couple was in the restaurant, so wait staff not too busy. Waitress asked what we'd like to drink. I asked what tea was available and she said she'd find out. She brought coffee for my husband and a cup of hot water with a few teabags from which I could choose. I asked for a little milk for tea. She brought little coffee cream containers. I asked if I could have any kind of regular milk and said it was coming. She then took order and I asked for scrambled eggs with order, as to how I'd like them cooked. Food arrived and I had 2 eggs over easy, which I cannot eat. I moved them to small plate. We were provided one container of jam on each plate, so no choices. I declined when my husband wanted to complain. I had decided I would not be returning and did not need to wait for scrambled eggs. When she eventually returned to the table, I informed her order was incorrect. She offered to provide what I had actually ordered, but I was ready to leave. It was a forgettable experience, with no welcome greeting or indeed customer skills. We asked for bill to reflect no eggs and was not charged for tea. It was a sad experience, as service was exceptional in this restaurant in years gone past. read more

The shredded beef burrito was a mini- burrito comparatively to the burritos I seen at other Mexican restaurants. It was ok and the reason for a loss of one star. I feel lucky to have a good Mexican restaurant nearby that has good food and service for fair prices. The portions are a little small for their combos so I like to add a taco or something, also the chili verde recipe is tomatillo based so is NOT chili verde. There is also a special menu that is by the front entrance of the dining area informing of the specials of the day. Staff was friendly and for what we ordered during this visit The food was painful. Located in a small town next to a laundromat and a burger joint as we started eating more customers started showing up. Seems like it is a place that people like to enjoy when they have the taste for Mexican food. I'm sure we will Visit this location again to get a taste of some other items from your menu. Worst service today from Nellie. Ordered a chimichanga, which is in the menu as carne asada. It came with black beans instead of meat. After asking her about it, I'm told that's the way it comes and the menu is wrong. She didn't even offer to change it. Who orders of bean chimichanga? My friend ate her lunch and the food was fine. The bill eventually came and the girl never talked to us the entire time we were here. We are still waiting after 20 minutes to pay the bill. Worst experience ever. I haven't been to Tortilla Flats in 7 years. 7 years ago, it really wasn't that great. Now, I'd say it is quite good. I had a sprinach and mushroom omlette. It came with either hash browns or red potatoes (I chose the potatoes). The food was plentiful, warm, and tasty. Even the iced tea was good. Others ordered Mexican food and said it was good. They also served free chips and salsa as an appetizer. Service was friendly and efficient. This place is great for a casual stop for either breakfast or Mexican food. If I could give 0 stars I would. I order Enchiladas and they were adamant about me ordering something else. Any ways they bring it to me and the sauce for the enchiladas was marinara sauce. In the realm of hole in the wall Mexican restaurants in California the count seems endlessly increasing. Now I must declare an obvious bias when it comes to Mexican cuisine. I was born in CA and not only that but my mother retired and moved to Puerto Vallarta when I was in my mid teens so I spent a lot of time down there. Acknowledging that bias I have to say Tortilla Flats is worth stopping by if you're in the area. Portions are plentiful, food is authentic, price is perfectly reasonable and in the vast category of Mexican food there is a baseline standard that they all must be held to. Visited here with a friend on 7/10/23. Food was excellent. My friend had the super burrito, I had the mini chimichanga. Both came with beans & rice, both were excellent. The mini chimichanga is not mini, it fills the plate. Packed with steak, it was delicious. The service was friendly and helpful and the meals came in short order. The bill with a tip was about $40, fair in today's economy. I will be back to this place to try other dishes. read more
