My husband also enjoyed their hot salsa. I ordered the huge Super Veggie Burrito $14 that was large enough for me to take half home. My husband enjoyed his Chef's Special Carnitas Burrito w/ side salad $21.50, and a Lagunitas beer $6.50 Everything was delicious. I did use the woman's bathroom, which was clean. It's been quite a while since I've paid Pelayo's a visit. We were driving through Vacaville and decided to stop off and get some dinner. All the staff members working at the time were friendly and helpful. The dining area and salsa bar look just like I remember, which is a good thing. We placed a to go order for three super burritos, one à la carte cheese enchilada, and one à la carte chicken taco. The grand total for this food was just under $80! This seems a little steep for the amount of food we received. The burritos and enchilada were all good and the taco was fine. Chips and salsa were included and were as expected. I will offer up that the salsas on the salsa bar are still very good! That hasn't changed since my last visit. It's very likely I'll be back at some point, the burritos really are pretty good. read more

It had a really cute atmosphere and we had exceptional service with an attentive waitress who also let us know about the awesome salsa bar that you can walk over to at any time! We were good past customers until today! The Wife got sick , her stomach was upset all day! She stated the chicken burrito tasted funny, even taking out a few chunks of what appeared to be bad chicken. She ate less than half and we took it home. Is it tasty and has crispy fresh tortilla chips, an amazing salsa bar, and standard favorites like chile rellenos, hard tacos, enchiladas, etc combined with great margaritas. Yes! It's a comfortable and clean place to get yummy food in a family owned atmosphere. It's a local place. The servers know their regulars. And it's that comfort and great service that turns a four star place into a five. I always have the 3 item combo and make sure to include the carne asada hard taco as a choice. I requested the addition of my favorite sauce (Jalapeño Cream) from the Salsa Bar to be smeared all inside my Super Burrito. This is my signature order (every time now). The heat is tuned perfectly with my taste buds. I would be honored if they gave my creation it's own name, like the "Rob's BFF" (Beefy Fiery Flavored) burrito. First time visit. I stopped into Pelayo's for a late lunch. The ambiance was simple, nothing fancy, but fine. The restaurant was clean and that's good. The server was fine, too. I ordered the carne asada plate. My meal arrived, and I wondered what was going on with the "carne asada." Usually, a skirt steak is prepared. I got some sort of rectangular piece, maybe sirloin. Normally, carne asada is tender. I thought they had slipped in sunbaked work boot leather. It was overcooked and tough with little to no flavor. The beans and rice were so-so, and the salsa most likely was from a can or jar. Inleft most of the meal behind. I just couldn't eat it. The kitchen definitely needs some help. Sorry, Pelayo's. Came into Pelayo's to have lunch and a margarita for for Cinco de Mayo. I ordered the chili mango margarita and the lunch special torta that comes with your choice of meat and choice of fries/salad/soup. I chose carnitas for my torta and the beef soup. I chose the frozen chili mango margarita which had a good flavor overall (mango flavor could be a little stronger) and was not overpowered by tequila taste. The carnitas torta was tasty, could have a little more meat. The soup that came with the torta lunch special had really good flavor. The wait staff were all very nice. They give you complementary chips and salsa (mild, but really good flavor) while you are waiting for your food and will refill if needed. There are a good amount of indoor seating and had decent ambiance. The building and the decor is getting a little old and can use a remodel. Pelayo's has been in Vacaville for a long time and is a popular place to eat Mexican food for locals. read more

By far my favorite Bay Area Mexican restaurant! Unfortunately I now live in Pacifica so I have to make a special trip to the Fairfield - Vacaville area if I want my pelayos fix. So many favorites here. Some are the shrimp burrito! The jalapeño salsa! That burns twice! Once on the way in and once on the way out! Good times! Lol I'm probably not going to spell this right but they have a cracktastic Mexican desert called sopa sopapia? Or something like that. We have family in the East Bay and some in Sacramento. We like to meet half way for lunch in the weekends. Decided to try this place this time. What a treat! Lunch specials on the weekend. Usually places only do them during the week. I had the pick 2. Chose the taco and the tamale. Came with beans and rice. I ate the taco and the rice and beans and brought the tamales home. They make their own chips every morning and they were fantastic. Not salty. They have a salsa bar so people who like mild chose mild. Then they had a variety of others in a variety of heats. Others in our party had the special burrito...took half of it home. Their appetizers of chimichangas were great. They have dessert chimichangas but that will be for next time. The service was great.? Thumbs up on the value aspect, but so so on the flavor. I didn't get too much from the chicken, so the boss salsa bar made up for it. Think there were about eight styles/flavors/heat levels. Being the sauce boss, that was good. Three item combo plate looked good. Heard no complaints. Now what I'm highly optimistic about are the plates of fajitas.
