Was here for lunch during a recent trip to Springfield. Since it was Taco Tuesday, my colleagues and I each ordered our plates loaded with an assortment of the 99 cent specials. I visited Tortilleria Perches after seeing all of the yummy sounding Yelp reviews. I tend to be a little Mexican food picky because I lived in Mexico as a child for a few years and developed a taste for the good stuff. One of the things I look for are places that make their own tortillas. We had carnitas, a fish taco and a steak taco. The corn tortillas were soft and didn't crack like the dry corn tortillas we are accustomed to. The fish and steak tacos were my favorite. The fish was tender and the steak well seasoned. I think they may make the salsa more mild for the many people that seem to think salsa should taste like ketchup so that was my only thing but apart from that it was delightful and affordable! read more

The shredded beef tacos were fabulous after I added a bit of salt and a squeeze of the provided fresh lime. The flour tortillas have a great texture and the meat was seasoned wonderfully. The atmosphere reminds me of restaurants in Mexico...tight quarters, loud music, and nice people. It's a fun environment to be in, great for friends and low-key dates. I would definitely recommend this to friends and I will visit this place again soon! read more

Well, if I were basing my review on just the food and previous customer service before they remodeled, it would be great. I've recommended this place in the past to a lot of people. But sadly I can only give them 2 stars now because since they remodeled the customer service has really gone downhill & they are rude & less observant. Also, I have to wonder, if you order your limit of 6 tamales or tacos on the $1 special days and and dine in (because the special is only for dine in) but you get full before you can eat them all.....WHY IN THE WORLD DO THEY TAKE YOUR PLATE AND COUNT HOW MANY YOU ATE THERE!!! Then...get this!!!....they charge you the dollar for the ones you ate, but FULL-PRICE FOR YOUR LEFTOVERS THAT YOU WERE TOO FULL FOR!! Say WHAT!?!? Meh. I've experienced better ... this is the description given when you choose 2 stars and it says it perfectly. Our family is still looking for that 'just right' Mexican restaurant in the Springfield area, and this is NOT it ... not by a long shot. We chose to give this place a try (didn't even know it was there!) by the wonderful reviews here. I cannot BELIEVE this is the top rated Mexican restaurant in Springfield on Yelp! 1- the food ... enchiladas: I had the enchilada plate with ground beef ... they were good, but it's also hard to get them wrong. Others ordered the enchiladas with the shredded beef ... they regretted it. beans: the refried beans tasted good ... which surprised me immensely because when they arrived, they looked like slop on the plates. Yes - I'm not exaggerating - slop. I've never seen 'refried' beans so runny - the look of them about turned my stomach when the plates arrived. If they hadn't have been so runny that they literally ran into my enchiladas, I wouldn't have even tried them - which is why I was surprised they actually tasted good. rice: it was the color of spanish rice but extremely bland. chips & salsa: the 'fresh' chips were over-fried and you tasted the oil. I've walked out of Mexican places before because of mediocre chips - but didn't this time because we were a large party. (Sorry, but if they can't get the chips right ...) Salsa was very bland and served in tiny bowls. Not spicy in the least, so we ran out super fast. I personally don't care for cilantro but understand that's a part of 'authentic' Mexican food. Unfortunately, without the kick, the salsa tasted of nothing BUT cilantro. chile relleno: I couldn't say ... apparently you can only get them on Friday. What's with that? And this is supposed to be the BEST Mexican in Springfield? 2- price ... another reviewer had said "prices are great to the ratio of food received". I beg to differ. Compared to other Mexican restaurants, their prices are comparable, maybe slightly higher on some things. Their serving sizes, on the other hand, are smaller. I'd never seen such small enchiladas ... they were almost cute. At most Mexican restaurants, this particular meal will fill me up ... not here. 3- service ... friendly but s l o w ... had to wait ... and wait ... and wait ... just for more salsa. Chips were never refilled (before dinner was served ... was hoping the second time around they'd be better but never had a chance to find out) ... had to wait forever for drink refills during dinner also. 4- environment ... I don't care what the outside of a restaurant looks like ... so what if it's in a strip mall ... I've been to some NICE restaurants in strip malls - you know, don't judge a book by its cover. I wouldn't say it was 'tight' ... pretty close, sure, but not bad. BUT ... yes, there's a big BUT ... the ambiance was non-existent. Let me say that again ... there is NO NO NO ambiance. It's really less of a Mexican restaurant and more of what I would describe as a 'Mexican sports bar'. Not appealing in the least unless you're really into bars and sports. 5- misc ... this is the ONLY Mexican restaurant I've been to - ever - that serves their food on PLASTIC plates. You know, not on the heavy, heat absorbing stoneware plates other places use ... PLASTIC. That alone speaks volumes. read more

This was the WORST Mexican place I have ever ate in my life! The only good thing about it was the guacamole, and salsa. Chips were way to thick, and hurt my teeth when I was eating them. Also, you have to pay for the chips & salsa. What kind of Mexican place makes you pay for those things? I got Chicken Flauta's, and they were so hard to cut, and had practically no meat in them. My boyfriend got a Chicken Burrito, and a Ground Beef Taco. He found a really gross looking piece of chicken in the burrito, it was black, had gristle and was inedible. I honestly don't know how this place got such good reviews. I will never stray from Cielto Lindo. They are the only place that consistently delivers awesome food! read more
