    Steak sub special. Cheesy deliciousness
    Tony C.

Finally got to try here and get the special of the week which was a steak and cheese sub with peppers and onions. The price seemed higher than you would think for the size but once you ate it, you could see why. It was LOADED with steak and cheese. No skimping here. Taste was delicious, but definitely gluttonous. Lot of sandwiches that caught my eye, will be back.

They are consistently good. Went in for their weekly special, which this week was the Vega, a Spanish sausage on ciabetta with brava sauce and garlic aoili, melted on top with some manchego cheese and peppers. They put so much flavor into their food with each bite! Of course I couldn't just get one thing. Street corn Mac and cheese!!!! This dish blew me away. If you follow me you know I'm a Mac and cheese snob. I absolutely love love this street corn Mac and cheese. It was cheesy, it was a flavor bomb. The chipotle mayo, cheese sauce, queso and tajin spices, when I read that I was like Mayo really? Well YES mayo please! The spice level was perfect for me, but if you have a sensitivity to heat proceed with caution. But I have to say it again, amazing dish! My son went with the birria tacos, and he loved them. I ordered on line and food was ready within 30 minutes. Staff is very friendly at the desk.

Phoenix as a bowl with power grains

Oh my gosh this was so good!! I read a step out buffalo article about this place, and in the same week got two more recommendations so we had to try it! We got takeout last night for dinner and the raving was on point!! We both prefer bowls and the cool thing is you can get any sandwich as a bowl, changing bread for either saffron rice, power grains, lettuce or potatoes! I opted for the Gustavo over rice and my husband got the Phoenix over power grains. Mine was incredible!! Perfect rice, the Jalapeño ranch was so good, the guacamole delicious, and that chicken with Chipotle butter, drool! The chicken stayed soooo crisp even traveling home! We also got Pelotas and street corn mac and cheese on the side. The Pelotas were perfectly crisp and those sauces with them were great. The mac and cheese was another drool worthy dish!! Spicy and cheesy and good!! I got chips as free side and I was too full to eat them but my husband liked them. I also ordered a cookie stuffed with Mexican chocolate ganache but again, too full!! Definitely would order again and also the price was super reasonable for the amount we got!!

Amazing new sandwhich shop in the Kenmore area. They also have a shop in Sanborn. The sandwhiches were good. They had so much flavor. The bread was fresh. I tried the Oso, a beef birra sandwich. It had lots of meat on it, and packed tons of flavor. Little tip they have a Brava sauce, I suggest getting some and adding it to the sandwhich. Thank me later. Tasted two of there other sandwiches which also were delicious. The Gustavo fried chicken sandwhich and the Choripan, argentianian sausage, Can't wait to back and try their other menu items!

Amazing sandwiches (just had the Gustavo, so good with just the right amount of spice). Highly recommend, either dine-in or takeout.

What a wonderful surprise!…read more Being an unclaimed business with only one review, there were questions about whether or not this would be successful or worthwhile. The process of ordering felt strange. I thank the previous reviewer who recommended going to the Facebook page for more information. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100063964563481&mibextid=ZbWKwL I reached out via WhatsApp and asked what was available to order & how this process works. Roberto was SUPER nice, talking me through the process of ordering, payment (via Zelle, Venmo, or CashApp), and pickup. My options for yesterday were seven different pupusas: Chicharrón y queso (pork and cheese), Revueltas (mix: pork, beans, cheese), Frijol y queso (beans and cheese), Solo de queso (only cheese), Camarón y queso (shrimp and cheese), Loroco y queso (Loroco and cheese), and Jalapeño y queso (Jalapeño and cheese). My friend doesn't like shrimp, but I ordered 2 of each anyway LOL We shared the rest and ate our fill - with leftovers to spare! I wasn't sure what Loroco was, so I even learned something new... According to preparedcooks.com, Loroco is a green unopened flower bud. It is quite popular for its use in sauces, stews, and soups. The flower comes from a herbaceous vine known as Fernaldia pandurata, and you can find between 8 and 18 flowers on each plant. Loroco has a very distinctive taste. It tastes like most greens but combined with overtones of nuts. It has an earthy-artichoke flavor to accompany the overtones of nuts. The taste of loroco is best described as a cross between squash and mild broccoli. My friend & I were both pleasantly surprised by the light flavor. We were given a fresh & delicious side to top our pupusas with called curtido. According to TastesBetterFromScratch.com, Curtido is a Salvadoran cabbage slaw or relish made with finely shredded cabbage, red onion, carrot, oregano, and vinegar. House of Pupusas makes their curtido with pickled jalapeños instead of onion - delightful! We also were treated to salsa roja, made with tomatoes, onion, jalapeño, and garlic. The salsa roja was thinner than I expected - more like gazpacho than a traditional salsa - but super tasty just the same. I've only got one photo to show you, because we were so busy "oohing", "aahing", and shoveling all the food into our faces - after deciding which pupusa to try first. While this is my first try of pupusas, I recently also tried an arepa for the first time. Arepas are thick pockets of masa and MUCH heavier than a pupusa. I think I prefer a pupusa because you have a more even distribution of filling to "pocket". The only caveat to this amazing place is that there's no eat-in option. They offer takeaway or delivery. I chose to pick up my order so we could enjoy our meal by the Outer Harbor. Other than loud seagulls and a bit of a breeze, we had the BEST food and a wonderful time catching up. I'm excited to see House of Pupusas grow and flourish. Perhaps they'll open a food truck in the near future. If they do, I'll be first in line ready to tackle another order of EVERYTHING.

Las Puertas is one of those places I really wanted to be obsessed with. While I didn't love…read moreeverything, I can honestly say I loved most of it. We went for the fall tasting menu and overall it was a really interesting, elevated experience. The portions are small, which I expected with a tasting menu, but there are enough courses that you do leave full. The dishes are very creative and definitely push your palate, which I appreciated. At the same time, that also means not everything will land depending on your taste. Some dishes really stood out. The tomato and tuna tartare was surprisingly amazing. It was bright, fresh, and one of my favorite bites of the night. The dessert, pastel de elote with coffee mousse, was also delicious and a perfect ending. A couple dishes missed for me. The Tetela Azul eggplant zikilpak y menta was my least favorite, and the Pulpo al Pastor, which is an additional paid course, didn't live up to what I was hoping for. With one drink each, our total came out to $377, so at that price point I was hoping to be completely blown away by every course, not just most of them. If I'm being honest, I even considered giving this a 3 out of 5, but it feels closer to a 3.5. Since that's not an option, I'm rounding up to a 4. The service was great and the ambiance was perfect for date night. It's a great spot for a special occasion and I would consider going back, but next time I would read through the menu more carefully instead of assuming I'll love everything. I'm not a picky eater, but the flavors are definitely unique and adventurous, so it really depends on your personal taste.

They actually had tamarind juice! We ordered a large ("Try it mixed with mango next time!" the owner told us in Spanish): The presentation for a Large was a quart-sized soup container filled to the brim, with an "X" cut into the lid for the straw. We sipped it while eating multiple breakfast snacks called "bolletas": A fist-sized lump of mashed potatoes molded around a tablespoon of spiced ground beef, then the outside of the potatoes is dipped in breadcrumbs and deep fried. Delicious, of course. Ambiance? The people watching was great! Lots of families, babies in strollers, people enjoying themselves and their cultural foods. I completely loved it, and highly recommend.

The day we visited, they did not have any baked goods (they said they only have them on the weekend), so we couldn't try the peras de coco (coconut rolls). But, perhaps it was kind of a blessing because our picada was plentiful. The dining area isn't huge, but they also do take out. There are about 5 or so tables to dine in. The service was a tad slow, but very friendly; I believe there was only one person waiting, cooking & serving AND the food was more than worth the wait! We ordered the picada for 4 and my brother tried a Colombiana cola. He liked it a lot; it was lighter than a "normal" cola, non-carbonated and less sweet than cola around here. I don't drink pop and even when I did, I always hated colas. I can't say I'd drink a whole Colombiana, but I didn't find it disgusting & that's saying something. Now on to the star of the show, the picada! It was loaded with several different meats, plantains fixed in different ways, yuca & baby potatoes and 4 sauces. We were so excited when it was set down on our table, we dug in before we even got our silverware haha. The platter had chicken, steak, chicharron, chorizo, blood sausage, sausage, sweet plantain, fried plantain, fried yuca and Colombian potatoes. The sauces were: avocado sauce, mayo/ketchup, pico de gallo & a garlicky one. Everything was so, so flavorful and cooked perfectly! There was not one thing that any of us didn't like. If I had to pick my top contender of a meat and a non-meat item, I would choose the chicharron & sweet plantain.... But I hope to never have to make that choice! The chicharron were thick and crunchy. The sweet plantain were perfection. When we left we were each given a dulce de leche caramel. They also have a variety of Colombian snacks and candies for sale. They recently opened an additional, larger location at 951 Niagara Falls Blvd (it used to be El Palenque). We were told they will be keeping both locations open, but the new location will have some additional items that they don't serve at the Oliver St location. I cannot wait to visit again!!!
