I've been seeing this place every time I drive by and been wanting to come here for a while. We finally made it out here for dinner. There were quite a few people showing up the same time as we were. We were immediately seated after arriving. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is small, with the front area consisting of the pizza kitchen and a couple of tables. Beyond a door to the right is a narrow dining room with bright yellow walls and tables seating 2-4 people lined up against the walls. The tables are covered in white tablecloths and framed paintings adorn the walls.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered the following: Toscanella salad, which has romaine and iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, carrots, onions, green and black olives and your choice of dressing. We chose blue cheese dressing. It was pretty good and fresh. Eating this made us all feel healthy. LOL. Calamari fradiablo (app) - this was delicious and spicy. This dish inspired Hubs to make it. LOL. Before ordering the appetizer, we asked our server if it was deep fried or sautéed. We were glad to hear that it was sautéed and not fried. The app also came along with garlic bread and it was pretty good. Shrimp and scallops D Angelo from the dinner special, which has jumbo shrimp and sea scallops sautéed with garlic, basil, diced tomatoes and extra virgin olive oil in a plum tomato sauce served over angel hair pasta. This was delicious! The scallops were fresh and rare. The shrimp wasn't overcooked and we loved it. Everything about it was great. I didn't realize that it came with soup or salad until we saw the bill. Veggie pizza large- Hubs liked it a lot. Daughter liked it as well. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were seated in this narrow dining room with their pizza oven on the other side of the wall. The heat came over to our side and it was really hot. It happened to be on a day we had a heatwave.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Lol. The only parking they have is outside the restaurant. We tried to look for a parking on the side but there weren't any so we were lucky to have found a parking right in front. It was a little nerve-racking backing up into the street, but it was OK. Parking is a little tight. Service was friendly and quick. I'm glad we stopped by for dinner! Will definitely return when in the area to try other items on the menu. read more

We had such a bad experience. here at Toscanella Villgae Cafe. We were sat promptly but that was the only good thing unfortunately. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place was not busy at all when we got there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our order was taken and it took forever for my boyfriend to get his soda after I received my water. The server kept forgetting it. After our order was taken we finally got our soups that came with the meal after 40 minutes of placing our order. One would think that that is something that just gets scooped out from a crock in the kitchen. At one point our server came by our table and said you still didn't get your soup? We said no and then it came about 5 minutes later. That was a long time to wait for soup. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The dining room was getting packed now. It seemed like everyone was waiting forever for soups or salads.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] About 35 minutes after we were finished with our soup our meals finally came. We had the shrimp francese and chicken Marsala. My date did not care for his shrimp francese. He said they were kind of blah and just thrown in sauce. I liked my Marsala but I didn't feel well later on from it, I think. We believe our server was maybe a manager helping out or something. He seemed to be running around everywhere, maybe even cooking in the kitchen. They were definitely understaffed that night. We unfortunately will not be back. read more

Came here for lunch after a recording session. Have been here a few times over the years, but never reviewed them. Small space with seating on two sides of the kitchen area. Everything is prepared fresh, & the staff is friendly. Has that Mom & Pop feel. Free street parking in front, across the street, & on the side. This use to be my go to pizza spot. Pizza is good, thin crust. Good pasta dishes, phenomenal garlic knots, and the marinara sauce is pretty good. Today I ordered the grandma's pie trying to switch it up from the regular plain cheese pizza. Grandma's pie is a square pizza not around pizza with pesto drizzle on it. Pizza was not edible. It is probably the worst pizza I've ever had. read more

We like to order from here for lunch or takeout but we call it in because they charge for online ordering. The wraps are good and my wife enjoys the pear salad. The only issue is that it regularly comes with things in it not listed on the menu description - namely tomatoes and cranberries. She doesn't like either of those so it is a bit annoying to have to eat around when it isn't listed on the menu. Last time we even asked for neither of those things and it was still in the salad. This place is everything you want from a mom and pop shop type of Italian restaurant. Friendly service and great food. The calamari is excellent! Light and crispy and served alongside a beautiful marinara. I got the linguine with clam sauce. Delicious! And the side of bread is also nice, especially with the seasoned olive oil they serve it with. Definitely coming back to try some of the other dishes. read more

The Mother's Day brunch was disappointing. The table was too small for our party and the buffet area was cramped. Service was confused at best. The bakery goods were dry. Stuffed shrimp would have done better without the mushy stuffing. In general it seemed the food was prepared well in advance and satin the buffet steamers for hours. Decent food, service ruined the experience. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was a busy Saturday night so I get it if you're running around or stressed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I went to pick up an order and the hostess/cashier (Alexis) pretended my boyfriend and I didn't exist. I made eye contact with her and she proceeded to whisper / gossip with another worker. I assume it was her manager who yelled at her name to take care of us. We decided to try a pickup order after a track meet on Friday. Food was excellent. Started with fried calamari, which is tricky to get as take out, but it was great & tender. I did pop it in the air fryer when we got home to crisp it up again. I had the special, stuffed salmon with fresh sautéed spinach & mash potatoes instead of the risotto. It was so delicious and generous portion. Hubby had veal Marsala with mash potatoes. It was tender and the portion was more than enough to fill him. He loved it. Teen son had the beef short rib special with mushroom risotto and mixed veggies. He is picky when it comes to his food and he absolutely loved it and couldn't even finish it all, although he tried. All the meals came with soup or salad, we all opted for the soup and was very pleased. We definitely can't wait to come again and next time go in to enjoy it all. Prices are fantastic especially considering how overpriced most the local Italian restaurants are. This will definitely be a regular spot for us. We've only been in the neighborhood for about 6 months and have avoided spending too much on going out to eat so this was a very pleasant experience. My Grandma and I love this place, the staff is always friendly and patient. It is difficult to find a place my grandma enjoys eating at, she is very picky and sometimes argues when we try to get her to eat, but this place has made it much easier to convince her that she still needs food despite being 87. It is always delicious and fresh and she looks forward to coming back since the staff has been so kind and welcoming. We will definitely be back. read more

I've been passing Toscanella several times a week for a long time now and always see a full busy parking lot. They seemed busy which is always a good sign. So when out on a motorcycle ride with a buddy who lives off Kings Highway we decided to atop for dinner. This was a good and lucky decision because THIS PLACE IS A GEM!!! It's got a vintage feel based on the age of the building, you walk in and feel history. It first looks like a little takeout joint but they have a comfy indoor dining room and there's also a patio that looks very cute (hint fellas... bring your girl here). The staff is quick, dedicated, attentive and accurate. There's a feel of seasoned restaurant professionals running the show. It's an Italian eatery but resembles a pizzeria but don't be fooled this is an Italian bistro! I order a Scarpiello from the specials menu although the long wait when it arrived it was OVER THE TOO OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! All fresh herbs and ingredients, the chicken and sausage was cooked to perfection, the pasta was at a perfect texture and the sauce was phenomenal! The long wait is because they do it from scratch and they do it to perfection. I can't wait to take a date there it's quaint, and inviting, go there and see for yourself. Love this place! Our go-to for Italian take out. Everything we have ordered has been delicious - we even found a new dish "chicken/veal sorrentino" which is amazinggggg. Chicken parm is good. Today was our daughter's bridal shower at Toscanella Village Café. We booked a venue for the patio and unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate but the owner, Carlos and thehis top server Pablo turned their dining room into an incredible party. Everyone loved the food, and most of them didn't even know about Toscanella. The food here is very, very good. I've dined in twice and had the calamari, penne vodka and chicken francese. Everyone at the table agreed it was the best calamari we ever had! The rings were very thick and perfectly cooked. This was not a crunchy version but I liked it better this way. It didn't have a fried taste to it. The vodka sauce was the best I've ever had in a restaurant and the chicken francese didn't have that acidic lemon taste so I really loved that! The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is because both visits the service was INCREDIBLY SLOW. Each dinner service was over 2 hours long. I would definitely come back here because the food was that good but not on an empty stomach and definitely not on a time crunch read more

Was going to the Monmouth County historical Society building looked in Yelp and found this restaurant had great reviews so six of us decided to try it. We were so excited that we did first the prices were excellent. The lunch serving sizes were extremely large. Everything tasted delicious. The service was so sweet and so nice. They have indoor or outdoor seating and we highly recommend this. It was so good that I took a friend back three days later we had the eggplant Parmesan with angel hair pasta and a side salad to the split it and we still can finish it so yummy. read more

Right near the Middletown train station a little hidden gem. Looks like a pizza place but significant seating with a new tent seating area. Food was delish thanks to chef Carlos. We had the clams appetizer with chipotle sauce. Amazing(can you hear me sing that!!)? It's a must. I had shrimp fra diablo. Perfect! 6 large shrimp cooked perfectly. Sauce just spicy enough over angel hair pasta. Enough for 2 meals. Yay!! Each enter comes with soup or salad. I had the bean soup with sausage and spinach. Very good. My partner had salad (nice size and fresh) with creamy Italian. Very good. Followed by cavatelle with broccoli. Very good. Also enough for lunch tomorrow. This place was recommended by a waitress. It's a small dining area so be prepared to listen to other people's conversations. The food was good, but my wife's red sauce was a little too sweet. If you like your pasta al'dente you'll be disappointed. Either they have a different viewpoint on how hard al'dente is or don't know but you didn't need a straw to eat the pasta like other places we eaten at. The service is very slow so don't plan on a quick dinner which for me isn't too bad. The place gets a crowd after 6 so get there before then. Back to the food. The main dishes above average and priced right. I would go again. read more
