They constantly try to upsell you every time a techncian comes out and they charged me $393.40 for about a 15 minute service call to determine that I had a leaky coil!!! There estimate to fix it was over $2k. I called a 2nd company and they were out within a few hours and did not charge me a dime for their time to confirm the leak. I have had Total Air for a few years now. Standard verbal protocol every six months: Gate unlocked, garage door open; need me for anything, knock on the door. Pretty cut and dry. Until I go into my bathroom and before I can pivot from the sink, I hear my kitchen door open and my dogs go nuts. Oh no, no, no. My house, my mortgage. I call Total Air. They don't get it either. My house, my mortgage. Maybe I was fortunate in the past to have Total Air reps who had manners with a flare for speaking English. Who knows? Maybe I'm suppose to lock and unlock the side door every time I open and close it. Terrible customer service. Got a new air conditioner unit about 7 years ago, fine experience. However, for a service call to simply clean the lines they charged $600. ($589 to be exact). Then installed a iflo unit on the device that they failed to mention they will forever control the replacement of the iflo bottle, which you can buy yourself for $25 @ Lowes. Instead, they want to charge you to come out every time the bottle empties. None of this was mentioned at the time of of service, and when calling in to get them off my wifi/account they refused. I've been a paying member with Total Air in St. Petersburg for roughly a year and a half, and unfortunately, my experience has been consistently disappointing. Recently, I needed service for an air-conditioning issue. The technician identified a refrigerant leak and quoted me $900 total for just checking where the leak was, charging $125 per pound of refrigerant. I was also told that finding the leak would add additional costs, and if the coils were bad, replacement could run around $3,000. While I understand that HVAC repairs can be expensive, these prices feel excessively inflated. For example, the company quoted $700 for a basic flow safety switch to prevent drain clogs -- a part that can be purchased at a hardware store for about $100. Beyond the pricing, communication has been poor. I called three times requesting an invoice and detailed estimate. When I spoke with Holly, I was told the technician would send it after his next job. That was around 1:00 PM; by 6:30 PM, I still hadn't received anything. After paying for a membership for more than a year, I expected better service, transparency, and professionalism. Unfortunately, Total Air has fallen short in all of these areas. Well, after nearly 3 years of doing business with Total Air and having regular routine maintenance done, it's clear now that not all service technicians are created equally and there is hardly a standard of care with maintenance. What there is plenty of is "upselling" of products, such as the UV light system that cost me over $1000 based on what the technician was saying was very poor quality in in my 9 year-old system. Even after that was installed, the technician that came next for the 6 month service completed the work and failed to turn back on the UV light when finished so it essentially went 6 months being powered off without my knowledge. My bad for not checking their work. Then the next technician that came for the maintenance (same one that sold me the UV light) neglected to vacuum out the condensation drainage pipe. I specifically questioned him about this and he told me it was all set and that it didn't need to be done cause he checked it from the upstairs air handler and it looked good. Shame on me for not insisting that he do just like the technicians before him did. Now, 6 weeks after that last maintenance visit I hear gushing of water in the first floor ceiling. Moments later I had a steady fast drip of water coming out of the ceiling air vents. I also have a light nearby that is now tripping the circuit breaker. There is clearly water in my ceiling below where the air handler is. I pulled off the cap to the drainage pipe and sure enough it is filled with water. I call in a service repair and explain the issue I am having. They dispatch a technician (Jon), who was absolutely fantastic. He managed to unclog the drain using a combination of pressurized gas, and a drain solve acidic solution which they charge $169 for (and of course I find it online for $40 but that's another story). So, the AC is back to functioning again, but I've still got a water problem in my ceiling which of course if left untreated could lead to mold. In summary, I've had well over 5 maintenance visits from them, each occurring every 6 months. I paid over $1000 for a UV light system to clean my air. I had a major clog in my condensation drainage pipe which should've never happened with the maintenance plan that I was paying for. Completely unavoidable. And now I've got a $169 bill for the drain solve solution. Kudos to them for not charging me the service call fee for this visit. Sadly, I can no longer trust this company to do good work; however, the office staff are superb. Always super friendly and easy to schedule service. This most recent technician (Jon) was also great, but he is one person. Coincidentally the last technician that neglected to clean out my drainage pipe is no longer with the company. read more

I'm posting this review on Yelp as well as Google for others to understand that this HVAC company does not have a well organized system in place for dealing with sending out a tech on a weekend . My AC went totally out on Friday ( after their office hours ) . I immediately called and was prompted to press 9 for emergency situations . I have 2 pets and live in a fairly large 2 story home - so when the AC goes out, the interior becomes an oven very quickly . Upon placing the call , an after hours person advised me that she couldn't figure out why they couldn't schedule me and that I'd get a call back early Saturday morning . That never happened . I called again Saturday evening - same person on the phone , same answer .. more unfounded excuses as to why they couldn't schedule a tech to come out . I'm a senior on their 2x per year AC maintenance plan and CAN NOT recommend anyone use them who is concerned about any kind of HVAC issue over a weekend and possibly major holiday to show up . I'm cancelling my service agreement and looking for an HVAC company in the area that know will show up if I need them off hours . I hated posting this review - but you have to EARN good reviews and in good faith - this was horrible horrible experience . Just unacceptable ! read more

I called Total Air for a new a/c unit for my condo. The moment they started, it was disastrous. Immediately a main water line to the water heater was broken by their employee. Therefore, flooding the condo and the neighbors in front of. They refused to come back and "repair" the broken pipe they destroyed to the water tank, telling me to wait on their insurance. So we had NO a/c and NO water for a month! The flooring had to be torn out. The kitchen and bathroom cupboards were torn out as well. The owner, Mr. A. Freedman could care less. He has no "morals" or common sense, not even empathy. All's they had to do was fix the pipe they broke and all would of been ok. So I DO NOT recommend this company at all! Unless you want shoddy work and possibly get your home destroyed. Still waiting on their insurance company!!! read more

I am shocked by Total Air's deception in not disclosing damages done by their installers; in charging me the balance due in full without my knowledge or consent and without owning up to the damages they caused or arranging for repairs; and by their callousness in neglecting to repair these damages in a timely manner--especially when I had given them such a glowing reference before I discovered the damages. Their actions have caused me financial harm estimated to be more than $800 and I expect to be reimbursed immediately: * On May 9, considerable damage was done to most of a closet ceiling by Total Air's ductwork installers; * Total Air installers discarded the "evidence" (the huge chunk of ceiling that came down) and never told us of this damage, and neither did their install manager (we discovered the damages on Sunday, May 14, when putting items away in this closet); * Total Air never provided me with an invoice that would have revealed that they had charged my credit card for the full balance for the duct work despite these damages, something I never would have agreed to until those damages were repaired; * Although no one ever contacted me to own up to these damages nor to discuss repairs or final payment, someone from Total Air scribbled something illegible under 'Authorized Signature," then charged me for final payment in full; * Total Air's invoice states that a "Drywall guy" would be out on May 10, the day after installation (no one showed up); and manager "Lindsay" committed in numerous phone conversations with me to have the repair work done no later than Wednesday, May 17, so that blown-in attic insulation work could proceed as planned on the morning of May 18--otherwise, this blown insulation would fall through the enormous hole Total Air's installers left behind; * However, no one representing Total Air ever contacted me to arrange for repairs nor offer any temporary assistance whatsoever (i.e., cover up the enormous hole temporarily until final repairs could be made); Total Air must reimburse me immediately and in full for the damages done by their installers and for the emergency patch job I had to scramble to get done. Shame on Total Air for its unethical conduct in hiding the damages they caused and for abandoning their responsibility to repair these damages without causing me further harm by interfering with scheduled insulation work. I have suffered a tremendous amount of anxiety and stress as a result of their callousness. read more

I am very picky when it comes to service. I usually always go with the highest Yelp or google review company I can find. We first hired comfort authority who had the most reviews, they over charged us and couldn't even do the job correctly. By luck, our plaster specialist Tate told us about Total Air! I cannot rave enough about how great this company is! They are very reasonably priced, fast, professional, and super nice to work with. They had to replace some air ducts in our home, and we can feel the difference. Don't even think about hiring anyone else. Get on the phone and call them now. We will be hiring them for our other home projects in the future. Thank you josh, Nate and his other crew member I forgot (sorry) for installing the new ducts so quickly. You rock! Can't praise your entire team enough. Brian, the tech, who initially came out to give us some options on how to fix our home is a total life saver. we purchased a new Amana A/C systemin May, 2023. By August 25 it ceased working. A tech came out August 26 and announced that the compressor had failed. A new one needed to be ordered. On Monday, 8/28 Total Air called to say that the part would not be in until Wednesday - but if I would pay $125 it would shipped express. In light of the impending hurricane, I declined. on thursday, 8/31 Total air called to say the part would arrive friday morning and be installed that day. Nevertheless, on Friday, they called to say that it would not arrive until Monday9/4 and would be installed Tuesday 9/5. Indeed a tech showed up and worked 8 hours, but failed to complete the job. same story today, only this time a second tech has been there half the day. Twenty man hours later, the job is still not done. (BTW all information I can find indicates the the entire replacement process, including the refrigerant should take 4 to 6 hours!) Reading the reviews online, it has become clear that the quality of service in the past year has declined tremendously to the point that they can no longer be trusted. I feel particularly bad because I have recommended Total Air to many friends over the years. Sadly, no more. Time to find a new company. read more

Total Air has always provided great service, but the Amana unit they installed has broken down multiple times in the past 5 years. So even though it has a 10-year parts and labor warranty you have to pay for service calls and freon to keep the house cool until they replace the defective coil in the air handler. I am now on the 3rd coil in 5 years. So even with the warranty I'm out at least $600 and I just got another bill for $356 for freon. I contact many people at Amana all the way to VPs and they basically said, sorry but you have to pay for the Freon even though the unit is defective. I most likely will never buy another Amana product again. read more

We were having a problem with our air conditioner turning off and on and we called Total Air to come out and inspect our system. One of their technicians, Nevon Hinds, came out to our condo on Sunday, August 12 and gave our system what appeared to be a thorough check-up but aside from finding a small air leak which even he admitted was not responsible for the system failure, he couldn't explain why the unit turned off and back on again. He assured us that our system was otherwise fine and said he didn't expect for us to have this issue again because he could find no other issue with the system except for the small air leak. We paid him a service call fee of $79.95. On August 16, only 4 days after Mr. Hinds came out to inspect our system, our AC unit turned off again for several hours in the early morning. We called Total Air to let them know about the "unresolved" and "yet to be discovered" issue and expected them to stand behind their "100% satisfaction guarantee" by either sending another technician out for no additional service fee or by offering to refund the $79.95 fee we paid since Mr. Hinds was not able to find the cause of the problem. But instead, what we were told by Bailey at Total Air was that they could send another technician out but we would have to pay another fee for the service call. Her exact words were "..our techs have to be paid for their time". Our issue with not wanting to pay two service call fees for two separate service calls is that both were related to the exact same problem. If Mr. Hinds was able to discover the problem with a degree of confidence and we refused the repair, I would understand why the company would expect to be paid a second service call fee for a second service all. But because Mr. Hinds was unable to discover the cause of the problem, we were surprised that Total Air didn't offer to send someone out at no charge or offer to refund the initial service call fee. We will be searching for another AC contractor and would caution anyone considering Total Air because in our case they did not stand behind their "100% Satisfaction Guarantee". read more

Tonight my house is 83 degrees HOT. It's cooler outside now. Unfortunately, this comes eight weeks AFTER Total Air installed my $17,000 system. Latest problem, a circuit board that failed was replaced by the WRONG replacement board. How does that happen!? They spec'ed and put in the system and they DON'T know what electronic board comes with it. Just absolutely sucks. I trust them and will use them in future (new to FL and I've learned it's hard to find good work). They weren't trying to oversell me with anything after inspecting everything. Wade from Total Air came to our rescue quickly (the next day) and though the problem was a head scratcher (we even had to refer to the house blueprints!), was able to repair the problem and in all honesty, we would have paid him much more for the time he spent figuring out our unusual a/c system. Aaron, I really appreciate the fact your secretary, Antoinette was very responsive and kept me up to date with the schedule changes. I didn't sweat the fact they had to cancel and reschedule twice because I know it's hot season and your swamped PLUS so many contractors/service people do a poor job of communication so the 4 stars is partly the great follow up she did as well as the tech, Rigo. He spoke to me by phone (as I was not home) and he waked me through the repair as best he could. It was $150 for the leak detection service, but he wasn't able to detect the leak. He told me there was no guarantee of finding the leak that it was the base charge for the service and equipment used for leak detection. I get it. I guess if it were me, I might have some allowance for instances where you weren't able to find the leak. Rigo did change an electrical part that was burned out and he filled the system with refrigerant and told me to monitor it. Overall the service was very good, I would have given 5 stars had it not been for my confusion of the leak detection charge. You did give me $25 off the service call so I'm grateful for that. Had our AC installed by this company less than 3 years ago. AC is literally leaking in our wall and not able to keep the home cold throughout the summer. The installers put with literal holes in in the ductwork that took in insulation and distributed around the home for us to inhale and cough up. Do not hire to install a new AC! Total Air replaced our whole air conditioning system after Hurricane Irma wiped it out. Got us financing and a maintenance plan for it. We periodically have an issue (because Florida is a tough place to be an air conditioner!) and they are always responsive, always have somebody out really soon. They come when they say they will, and hire excellent and professional people. They have detected things we did not realize before the issue got too bad and showed us how to correct them, saving us money in the longer run. Definitely Top Notch and Highly Recommend! Here is my whole story...Seven months ago, another AC company installed a new Bryant AC Unit with Heat Pump. Two months ago, we noticed a frequent drip from the garage ceiling. Apparently, the drip pan was unlevel, the main air unit was not supported properly as the new size was larger than the broken one, the outside drain was not positioned correctly (to create the "air trap" that stops incoming air from outside), and I had to register our new AC unit/equipment when I was told the company did this. The company's owner got in trouble with the law and now will not provide the 1-year service guarantee. In order to maintain our AC equipment warranty, the manufacturer, Bryant, gave a short list of companies they authorize to work on their AC units. TOTAL AIR INC was on the list and a local company. When I called, Lisa was great and empathetic to our situation with the original installer lack of service. We scheduled a initial service call to examine the full situation that week! The Total Air rep, Brian, came out and inspected our AC equipment with my husband, Tim. The new AC original install was lacking support and the unit was starting to lean/fall to one side, causing the condensation to pool and drip. The drip pan was not level, resulting in the float switch to not stop the unit, increasing the condensation drip to the garage ceiling, then drip to the garage floor. The new AC unit is larger than the old unit - it needs more air intake flow, more than the existing return vent provides. The list got longer BUT it is all needed! The time came to figure out how to pay for the quoted price. I checked out their website and found an online application, applied and was instantly approved! Soon after, Lisa contacted me to review the quote and services and no-interest financing, which was confirmed eligible for the "re-installation" of our AC--PERFECT! We scheduled a date to get this done. The tech, Brian, returned for the actual work. I really liked that the same tech was coming as that made him familiar with our situation - no explaining things twice. He took the time to explain the same info that he gave to Tim and answer all of my questions. My son was visiting while I went to my job. He reported "the techs did a really nice job, cleaned up after themselves, and the new (2nd) air intake return looks really good!" (I was a little concerned about that.) When Tim got home, there was no signs that anyone was there--another PERFECT! The AC unit is working fine, there is no dripping in the garage, and we are SUPER HAPPY with the Total Air Inc services!!! AC was out. Made Apt with Total Air for Friday. Was told that provider would be out around 4. Got a call later saying 6. Then another call saying I would be the first apt Saturday morning at 8 am sharp. They are supposed to be a 24 hour service. After 9 am with still no show, called to find out they wouldnt be over untill afternoon. Cancelled apt. Too many other willing AC services that will keep their word. read more

Unfortunately I cannot give a good review for this technologically advanced AC company . When they came to install new vents they didn't even suggest to extend it further into the room so that the room would cool properly (not just the hallway) . Also the day after service, the AC unit wasnt operating properly and all I was told was to change the filters .Tech didnt look any further for anything else(but up sold me to their care plan ) . unfortunately the unit was clogged and leaked thru adjoining wall on my newly installed vinyl tile . Service manager is declining any responsibility since it took a while for the smell to eventually alert me to this problem. Also float switch was not checked during visit to avoid a problem like this from happening as that would've shut unit off preventing leak and alerting me to a problem before it caused this extensive damage. read more

Excellent company and service. I had the air ducts replaced in my attic (rats destroyed them) and the crew very carefully removed the filthy ducts and replaced with new. They were super careful so my house stayed clean. After two companies didn't even bother to show up for a quote, these guys were a breath of fresh air. Very professional. Excellent service. read more
