*DO NOT RECOMMEND PLEASE READ* This location wasted my time and money and this is truly not a place I would recommend to anyone. Service needed was for Dermamalan, they decided to ask for any potential allergies AFTER I made the hour and half drive to their office to tell me they needed to call the rep for Dermamalan to ensure any reactions to an inactive ingredient. The booking was made well in advance the week prior. To have been asked for any potential allergies only AT my consult when the appt was only and specifically for the treatment aforementioned was a complete waste of my time because it's not out of standard protocol that patients fill out patient paperwork prior to their arrival to provide this detail and to curtail the appt accordingly. This office was more concerned with collecting pre-payment than doing due diligence to ensure a smooth experience for an upcoming patient. I drove down to this location from LA which took me an hour and a half one way then longer back for an alternative treatment (a VI Peel) that was completely ineffective. Five months later guess what...I find out they never actually called the brand to confirm if there was actually a reason for concern to the inactive ingredient in the product, absolute lack of integrity from this practice. During my consult Mariah, the Business Manager, struggled to find any examples of Black patients that they've ever worked on, it was absolutely cringe as she sifted through pages of past examples and couldn't even find one person while holding the book open trying to prove past work that I could see reflective on me. The cherry on top was that the nurse who was administering the VI Peel shyly admitting to me before starting that she's never done this treatment before for alternative spots on any other patient so I was truly guinea pigging this thing, SMH. I was left with peeling under my nose that even 5 months later still has not fully healed no matter how much neosporin or Vaseline I apply to it and have scheduled an appt now with a much more professional dermatologist to correct the damage made from this business. Horrible horrible experience. I'm heavily considering contacting the Better Business Bureau that has worked with me in the past regarding businesses like Total Dermatology who lack business integrity. I wish I had written this review much sooner to prevent others from having their time wasted. Please refer to LA/Beverly Hills practitioners who use standard procedures when seeing patients and who work with high profile clientele. I tried to schedule an appointment by phone with this company for some botox on 8/5/2024. The person who took the call immediately requested my social security number, date of birth, physical address, and driver's license information ....which is not only not legally required under state law, but also not necessary for the purchase and administering of botox in the state of california. I have called the california regulatory authority for this practice, and was told that consumers cannot be forced to disclose and produce personal and private information and documents such as those being demanded by total dermatology in exchange for botox purchases. Additionally, i have had botox administered at multiple other practioners, and have never been told that they must have copies of my driver's license, social security number, date of birth and physical address. Toal dermatology will refuse to do business with you if you don't allow them to have all of your personal and private information that normally only government agencies and hospitals are legally authorized to collect. I have done some online research and discovered many complaints about the intrusive and questionable conduct of this company. Total dermatology cannot give a valid or reasonable explanation for their insistence on having ALL of you private information. I am in complete agreement with other non-compliant potential victims of Total Dermatology, that the only reason the so aggressively demand our personal information is because selling our personal information to large corporations and government is a major source of revenues for them and other unethical organizations who engage in the same practice. Stay away from this SHADY and potentially FRAUDULENT organization. You just might end up becoming a victim of identity theft. read more

This doctor is a total scam artist/salesman. He should not be treating patients. He convinced us to do Aviclear, which is an out of pocket expense of $5K, plus trying to sell us his lotions along the way. My child had moderate acne to begin and at the end of this it became a complete severe acne mess. All along the treatment he would say this is normal and that it'll get better. It never did, just kept getting worse. After 3 treatments, we went to another dermatologist who said she would have never done that treatment, she's heard of horror stories. Here we are 6 months post our last Aviclear treatment, been through 3 rounds of Acutane, and his acne is now all gone. BTW, the Total Derm doctor was so against Acutane, until we finished our Aviclear, then all of a sudden he says Acutane isn't bad. What a crook. My son is left with massive scarring and all it took was a three $10 co pays vs. $5K of who knows what long term effect that Aviclear is going to do. Stay away from Total Derm and stay away from Aviclear. read more

I paid for total of 7 laser treatments to fix acne scars. Unfortunately my scars are not fixed, maybe smoothed out a bit. My issue with this place is that the last few treatments ruined my face, made me look older. It added some wrinkles around my mouth which I did not have before and my face became droopy. Years later and I'm still recovering from those horrible laser treatments. I wonder if they knew that and hoped I would come back asking for botox or some kind of facelift to fix it. They also ruined my chin definition. Overall you might improve something but if you keep doing treatments you end up losing more than you gained. I think the lasers were not used properly. read more

When I called asked about laser treatment over the phone I was told between $350-$950 . (Check yelp same pricing there) They charged me $100 over the phone and didn't mention non refundable. I wasted my time and money. Kindly asking they should refund the money. This is scam.However when I was in the office I was told over $6000 for the treatment and jot guaranteed results.They didn't mention that and asked CC over the phone. Doctor seen us less than 5 minutes and told my teen daughter she has severe acne scars which is not the case! Fact: I took my mom to see her hand skin problem because this clinic has good reviews. They charged me $250 before we see the doctor and told me the $250 will be most likely cover the visit and the treatment. So at the visit, the doctor saw my mum's hand for 5 mins and prescribed some antibodies. Then that's it. $250 is gone. Opinion: Don't trust any doctor who wear fancy suit and bling bling bracelet and all kinds of jewelry when he/ she sees the patient. Really nice office, great staff but....I went for laser hair removal...Brazilian. Perhaps it is me being newer to OC, but do any offices here know that Brazilian is removal of nearly everything? Why am I explaining it to the technician? I went here 3 times for nearly 300.00 per session and received a basic bikini line treatment (where I have no hair to begin with). I kept asking for Brazilian and returned for the same result each time. So I stopped going here. I had high hopes for this office but this experience soured me. A waste of money. read more

This place is great. This is my second visit with the first being a consultation. Staff is very friendly & professional. I didn't see the doctor doctor as I'm sure he's busy but I had the manager explain procedures & a nurse practitioners service me. Originally I wanted & was dead set with Laser Fraxel. However, understandably, due to my genetics, I was not a great candidate for that. We discussed IPL & that was what I purchased. I had to grab a 3 packaged deal. As far as my first procedure, it was great. As expected as I've done numerous facials & non surgical treatments to help resurface my facial skin. Jessica was my nurse today & she was very sweet & gentle. Everyone was very accommodating which I loved. My only con - which I might request next time - is a deeper mm needle. I would love for it to go deeper to help really kick in my collagen. But I totally understand why maybe first session should be an average depth. Dr. Pilest is really good at what he does. He is really amazing at filler and Botox. He knows exactly where to place it. It sounds weird saying that but I've been to so many places that makes it look uneven, not with Dr. P. He has an amazing eye for this. I also like that he takes his time and listens. Very disappointed. Having been a hermit for almost 3 years of Covid drama, I drove 2 hours from San Diego to go get some botox and filler from Dr Pilest. Having been there approx thrice previously I didn't expect any problems, and knew they would open the product in front of me as requested last time I visited them. This time a new roadblock appeared. The mandatory copy of my drivers license being kept on file for some reason. I showed them my photo ID to verify who I was, and my name yet they insisted on taking a physical copy of it. I explained I am extremely protective about unnecessary personal data being stored, and I asked why this was necessary, since I proved who I was, AND I have never been asked to do this previously. I was going to pay them in cash, and not on a credit card, so there was no risk of fraud to them. In addition to those reasons, they were not going to submit any claims to my health insurance since this service was aesthetic in nature. They would not budge, despite my having driven 2 hours one way. So I left shaking my head in dismay at the lack of customer service in not respecting my right to privacy of my personal information that is not necessary for so many reasons and hadn't been requested prior.. I've been to many other facilities for botox and fillers, and have never had someone insist on photocopying my drivers and keeping it in their records. Your personal preference for Privacy is not something they seem to care about. Be aware before you drive long distances they will be requesting copies of your drivers. read more

I had my first Botox appointment today and am all around very impressed with Total Dermatology. Jayci has been the BEST - she was helpful in answering all of my questions and concerns and helped to get my appointment scheduled quickly. When I arrived, the location was VERY clean and sanitary - so I felt safe and like they care about customers. Come to the Botox. The big one - Maria - she is the perfect mix of motherly advice, friend you'd go to grab coffee and chat with, and nurses assistant. I hate needles and she made me feel super comfortable. Dr Pilest came in, stuck my face and left. Pleasant experience - nothing significant to report. ***EAT FOOD BEFORE YOU BOTOX***. Maria was in the room with me, still chatting and continuing to get to know me, which I appreciated - especially when I started to feel light headed and faint. She sat me back down, let me take a load off, grabbed some water and a snack for me - and was ridiculously kind and attentive. Some people would just leave you to figure it out, but she was really sweet about the fact I was an idiot and didn't eat, and that - being a first timer - it's not an uncommon occurrence. I'm super grateful she was my nurse / who I had the appointment with. Would recommend TD - waiting to see how my Botox settles out, but they care about their clients and make sure you know you have a contact and someone to reach out to for questions. Have had a red spot on my nose for 9 years and tried several dermatologists with no major support, this place included! Total Dermatology was my last resort, to utilize their higher frequency laser services (vbeam). I was quoted 300 over the phone for a session, along with the 100 dollar deposit that was to go towards the consultation and first session (300 total). When I was in person I was quoted 400 dollars for the consultation and session because "he would target the spot more and a quote doesn't mean that's what the actual cost will be". So if you're going in, make sure you know the costs upfront before starting treatments, because they may try to get more money out of you like they did to me. So I reluctantly paid more to try to get results. From the bruising in the picture, I should have immediately noticed it didn't even target the red spot I came in for. If you're looking to try vbeam I would not recommend this place that upcharges costs and doesn't even target the spots you request, especially for all the money you're spending. My wife and I both have gotten Botox at this clinic, and my wife has also gotten laser treatments and injectables (trust me, she needs them). A few years ago, Dr. Pilest was decent. Lately, he's rushed through his procedures and made mistakes on both of us and shown an overall lack of care, so we're not going back. He also WAY overcharges compared to all the other doctors in the area. There's a reason why many of the low-star reviews complain about the over-billing at this place. I truly think it's just a money-grab for Dr. Pilest and that he doesn't really care about his patients. That is shown in his lack of bedside manner. Went for the first time today. Was promptly and nicely greeted. Filled out my paperwork and was called to the back. Checked in by the nurse and then the doctor came in. He gladly went over all my questions about facial treatments. They got me pricing and told me about discounts and rewards programs. Decided what I wanted to do and we took photos for my file and got started with injections. Only did botox and I can say they do a great job. Zero pain and was done quickly. I went in for a Diamond glow facial and even though it was relaxing it didn't really feel like it made any difference at all on my skin. Additionally I bought their salicylic acid wipes since I needed a better exfoliant and their consultant was pushing their products pretty hard.... Brought it home, used it for a week, just garbage. Definitely way too strong and not suitable for sensitive skin. A little upset I paid $50 for it but oh well. read more
