I had been following Karen's Instagram account and admiring her hair colouring skills for about a year. I decided this year that I was going to take the plunge and go from years of dyed black hair to blonde and I wanted Karen to be the person to take me through it. It took me awhile to book the appointment, as she didn't have any availability for three months. I took that as a good sign, she is busy because she's worth waiting for. My best friend and I took the drive out to Montebello together, the salon was pretty easy to find even though we were unfamiliar with the area. As soon as we walked in the door, we were warmly welcomed by everyone. ALL of the people in this salon are fun and friendly. Judging by how busy they were, everyone here has a super loyal clientele. My friend was hoping for a haircut (she didn't have an appointment) but they were booked solid. Karen was the ultimate professional, she went over price with me as well as expectations before we started. I knew we couldn't change from black to blonde in one sitting, she gave me options for colors during my transitional phase. We decided on a dark plum. She was super chatty and very friendly throughout the whole process. She constantly checked on my hair while I was under the blow dryer to see how the process was going. I just can't say enough about her personality AND her skills. I am in the beauty business also and I know how rare it is to find someone who is both humble AND super talented! My hair has never looked so good! I got soooo many compliments that it's ridiculous. My hair still looks healthy and super shiny, even though it has been bleached. Let me start with I'm not a person who likes getting my hair done or touched, BUT Yudy really changed the way I feel about that now, I have met hairstylist in the past that try to change my hair and give me a different style and I deal with it but I never go back. Now things are different I am so happy with my hair, my hair color. I also have a plan now, we said that we cut my hair this way to give it a shape so it can grow into a bob cut and believe me I needed this! I'm definitely going back to get my hair treated next month I can't wait until my hair is fully grown out. Denise Frau truly does know my hair and what I like. I am always satisfied by her work and always am 300% confident in her work and what she has to offer me. I got my hair dyed a few weeks ago. The color was amazzzzzzing. She totally out did herself. I cannot be happier with the color. She is a miracle worker and I am truly blessed that I have found her. Denise is great. I love YUDY. First of all, I came to her about two years ago when she was working somewhere else, my hair was damaged and messed up from another stylist! I needed major help. She was so sweet and kind and fixed my hair. That was the purple hair picture, after she moved at this salon, which is beautifully decorated btw, I followed her here. Wow, just read a terrible review 5/11/12; about the Best Hairdresser I know. Before your sold on that review you have to ask yourself if that person gave him Several Opportunities it's an obvious the cuts were way above average DUH.... or they wouldn't of come back.. I have had Frank do my hair for years for my Cuts, Color and Styling. For those Special Occasions Styling they always are so unique and amazing. He always factors in what I'm going to wear and nails the style. There is never a strand out of place throughout the evening and am always receiving compliments. He is the first hairdresser I know who really does keep a file on all his clients, so rest assure that your return visits are never a guessing game what was done and what needs to be done. You are always asked what is it that you want done. As for myself I totally leave my hair in Franks hands and at times on floor that's when he cuts it hehehehe..... There I times I really don't need anything done, however I just want to be pampered so I make an appointment just for a wash and style.ahhhh.....Great feeling As you can tell I soooo LOVE this place, I always look forward to my appointments. p.s. Being a male I don't frequent hair salons, but as it was time to donate my 22+ inch hair I decided It would be best to seek out a professional. Needless to say I, like many others, am skeptical to believe anything I read on review websites.. But Total E-Clips had great reviews so I decided to put my faith in them. Any fears I had were automatically put to rest when I met Sara. She offered me a beverage and most importantly made me feel comfortable being in a place that's out of my element. Best haircut of my life!!! I was hesitant to even get a haircut for a few reasons.. Primarily was my concern that a haircut would now reveal my receding hairline. Sara listened to my concerns and helped me decide on the type of cut. She was amazing, I went shorter than I thought I would be able to, she is a genius with those scissors and combs. Once Sara was done with me I could barely notice any signs of a receding hairline, I don't know how she did it but she gave me the best haircut of my life and helped me retain my self-confidence. It is without a doubt that i will be returning for Sara. (Heck I already have an appointment in November) Two thumbs up, I recommend it even for guys. The salon itself had a great ambiance. Pricing was definitely reasonable and the people were all friendly and amazing. ***forgot to mention that they went up and beyond the call of duty when it came to handling my hair that was to be donated. I've donated it several times but Frank made sure they placed extra rubber bands in sections to avoid the hair from getting loose. Albeit a small thing.. Frank is a very talented hair dresser, not just with hair cuts, but with color too. I was going to him for a couple years until i moved. I loved each hair cut and color Frank did on my hair but I thought it was a little pricey. I was going to him for years and even got to know some of the regular clientele; Total EClipse is such a fun, laid back place I feel so comfortable there. I used to live in South Pasadena so the salon wasn't too far but when I moved to Torrance, I decided to find a new spot near me. 3 years later, I am still jumping from one salon to another, left unsatisfied each time only wishing I had just made the drive up to see Frank. I did see in another review that the appointments aren't timely, this is true, but when its your turn he takes his time to work on you. That's why i'm still giving 5 stars instead of 4. I had the worst haircut about a year ago and my hair finally grew out. Needless to say, I gave Nicole at Ultra Lux Salon in Redondo Beach a clean canvas to work on and was reassured that she really has no skills. She ended up only trimming my hair to give me the same horrible cut I had let grown out! It's lopsided and scrappy. I regret going to her. When this grows out I am booking an appointment with Frank. When I moved out here from NY in 2003 one of my greatest concerns was finding a GREAT hairdresser (having had a fabulous one in NY, I have to admit I was a bit spoiled and knew I had my work cut out for me!). I searched for over a year and was finally referred to Frank at Total E-Clips by a coworker. Upon entering the salon I was immediately impressed with the look and feel of the salon! Frank's love for the sun and moon are evident EVERYWHERE and it tied in perfectly with the name Total E-Clips (not to be confused with Eclipse but a clever play on words nonetheless.) Frank greeted me with a very friendly hello and his wife Melissa, who helps him behind the scene (a job not unnoticed btw...), was very pleasant as well. I seriously felt that Freida Carlo or Diego Rivera were going to come out from behind the doors and join in the atmosphere of the salon! =) So enough of the ambiance review.....let me review Franks work. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! I was soooo impressed with his knowledge and the care and concern that he put into giving me the best cut ever! I have long hair (right around my bra line) and he knows what to do when I say "Don't cut the length!" HAHA! Long layers, trims, bangs and now I can add color to my list of services provided by Frank. I was there last night coloring my brunette hair PURPLE! I so wish I had a picture to post because it looks so crazy cool! I am 46 years old and I was feeling rebellious and he was able to help me achieve the look I was going for! (Too bad he is not a tattoo artist because that is next on my bucket list!) =) As someone else mentioned in another review, Frank does keep a record of EXACTLY what he used on my hair so that next time (which I promise there will be a next time) it will not be a guessing game. Honestly I am blown away (no pun intended) that Frank or his salon would get a negative review. Sometimes I have had to wait, but that is expected anywhere you go. And yes, Frank likes to talk, but it's a welcome gesture that makes me feel almost like family. I know all about his kids, his vacations, his life....but that just adds to making me feel more relaxed and comfortable while sitting in his chair. Will I ever go back?......DUH! Would I recommend Frank?.....DOUBLE DUH! And btw....for the record, I am NOT a family member or staff and I am NOT getting paid to write this review. Yudy has been doing my hair for the last 3 years and I honestly wouldn't have it any other way! I found her on Instagram when I needed her most. I was going through the beginning of my divorce after a 12 year relationship and was in desperate need to "find" myself again. When I first came to her with my box dyed black hair and uneven mess she was like a miracle worker! I went from black to purple to Teal, Blue and now I've settled on Red. I recommend Karen to everyone, and now they are loyal customers. Even my sister who lives in Alaska will only get her hair cut by Karen. She will wait an entire year just to get her hair cut and highlighted by Karen. She is a master with the scissors, not only does she know exactly what haircut you want just by description, but she will offer ideas on how to make that haircut best suit your face. Schedule and appointment early, she's starting to get recognition across So Cal and it's becoming difficult to make an appointment. I use to be able to call her the night before, but now I sometimes have to wait a week or more. Karen not only cuts hair beautifully, but she also styles and sets it for no extra charge. I always try to book my haircut appointments on the day I'm going to a special event because I know my hair will be styled perfectly. For the service you get, you can't beat the price. I'm so unhappy. Yudy messed my hair up. I Didn't nearly get the cut/color I asked for. I'd post pics because they speak for themselves but apparently that's not an option on here so check out my profile pic. I kept an open mind, even tried to reason & at least get partial refund to correct my hair elsewhere..because after this I don't feel comfortable with her touching my hair again, how could I? It should have been done right the 1st time. The layers were not layers at all, my hair looks like two steps all choppy, its uneven and patchy, the roots aren't even blended. She even burned my scalp but that was probably because she was working on two other clients during my appt so I was neglected. & No luck on a refund. It was basically a $325 donation. For that price the results were a joke she could have set some time for me specifically like a professional. I should have just done it myself. As a tattoo artist & 9-5 worker I fully understand that time is money, she came up $$ & my time was wasted. But when you have a big clientele I guess you can get away with shit here an there. read more

I have to agree with Julia 1000% Total Eclips, Frank, Melissa & the entire staff are all awesome. This is not just a hair salon, its a family who make clients feel like right at home. Frank has been doing my hair for 10 years, and am always content when I leave the salon. Yes, sometimes I have to wait a little, but the service is worth the wait. The staff is professional & keep heir client's profiles updated at each visit. If the "bad review writer" feels so special, she has to be attended to the second she walks through the door, then maybe this is not the salon for her, and do Total E-Clips a favor, MOVE ON. This is NOT a doctor's office or a restaurant where the appointments/reservations are firm to the minute, even at these establishments we wait. He always listens to exactly what you want, and if he thinks that the cut you want wouldn't suit your face shape, he suggests a similar option that's better. So nice and friendly! I went to this salon today to get my hair color corrected. Aerial was the stylist that took care of me. Aerial, thank you so much for fixing my hair! I had a terrible touch up job done last week and the roots of my hair were lighter than the rest of it. It looked awful and Aerial understood my feelings and went to work. I couldn't have been more pleased with the outcome. The color of my hair looks SO much better, and Aerial matched it to the rest of the hair color. I will forever be grateful to her. This a long over due review. I made an appointment with Ariel to get my hair dyed. When I arrived she welcomed with me and listened closely to what I wanted. Then she gave me her opinion and told me she didn't recommend for me to dye my hair because it was damaged and dry. Instead she suggested that I cut it, and get a hair treatment. So I decided to go with her suggestion and my hair feels so soft and healthy. Really appreciate her honesty and professionalism. Definitely coming back to dye my hair in a couple of months. read more
