When the dreaded red triangle of death appeared on my hybrid, I first called the dealer. The receptionist was clueless and wouldn't even let me speak to a service advisor at the Gilbert & Pecos location. I was told my only option was a a $98 diagnostic fee. Then I called APA and spoke with Drew. He explained that their diagnostic fee was similar, but more importantly, walked me through a few things they would try before even going that route. The diagnostic would be a last resort. That alone made a huge difference. When I dropped the car off, he offered me a ride home. I declined and stayed nearby, but the gesture stood out. When I checked back in later, they told me the issue was something super minor - and they fixed it for under $60. Had I gone with that Toyota dealer, I would have paid the diagnostic fee, and who knows what they would have charged for the remedy. Always always read reviews...The Toyota Dealer off Gilbert Road, has reviews showing concerns about repair practices & pricing. The sales side received great reviews, the repair side faces challenges. Bottom line: Drew and APA earned my trust. If I have any future car problems, I know exactly where I'm going. Dishonest Diagnosis, Disrespectful Response -- Avoid This Shop…read more APA Total Car Care has a "D-" rating with the BBB as of this review. Do you really want them working on your car? I brought my Tundra into APA Total Care Care (yes, it's misspelled on their invoices, diagnostics, media) for an A/C refrigerant leak diagnosis--something already confirmed by the Toyota dealer, who had added UV dye to help in the detection. I have no idea what they charged me for. It wasn't UV dye leak detection that's for sure. Instead of checking for dye or leaks, APA tried upselling me the exact same service (evacuate/recharge with dye) for 50% more--claiming the dye wasn't there. I later filmed the dye clearly visible under UV light myself. They also managed to cause damage while poking around. See the video. Their "inspection report" was just an automated upsell list, with no mention of the A/C issue I brought it in for (as shown on their own invoice). When I pressed the service manager for answers, he became aggressive. The owner's public reply on Google doubled down with personal attacks, called my wife and me "immature," and never addressed the video proof I shared. That response says more about their professionalism than I ever could. I challenged the owner to prove my wife and I were screaming and yelling, but you guessed it, there is no such evidence even though they have video cameras all over their lobby. I've posted video and photo evidence. If you value honesty, keep looking.

This is why I always make my mother put her calls on speaker because Steve's wife(Rochelle) and daughter, for whatever reason, have a habit of lying about things and have pretty consistently bullied my elderly mother for years. So apparently the daughter lied and said that my mother cussed her out, which she would never do, so when we got here this morning Steve told my mother you can't come here anymore instead of calling her and canceling it and having the guts to do that knowing she would be driving all the way in from Flagstaff. The behavior from his family is something documented on Reddit in several threads about mechanics around Phoenix, yelp, and other parts of the Internet so it's incredibly easy to verify this information and since his wife and daughter are now answering all of the complaints posts on yelp, I'm very curious to see how they respond to my very honest review. I also have that phone call recorded so I might post it on YouTube and link to it here to expose the obvious lying by Steve's daughter and i'm taking it to another mechanic to have them look at the work that was just done on it with the water pump and timing belt to make sure it was done correctly. In the short time that I posted this review, several people reached out expressing how many problems they had at A1 auto and recommended two mechanics in Apache Junction and Mesa and I've already spoken to both on the phone and not only are their mechanics knowledgeable, but their office staff is spectacular!! I consider this a good thing because now we have better places to get car repairs done! This community on Yelp really comes together to help people when it's needed.

As I generally try my best to stay away from the dealership, I took to Google and Yelp reviews to find a reputable shop to perform maintenance on my vehicle. My search brought me to Import Auto Experts. Making the appointment was a strange experience. I spoke with someone named Jeannie who was very pleasant on the phone. I informed her that I wanted to schedule an oil/filter change and a battery replacement. She scheduled me and attempted to end the call (in a very professional way), but she never asked for the year/make/model of my vehicle which I thought was weird, so I spoke up and asked, as I wanted to ensure the technicians were using the parts that that I requested. After I asked, she sounded surprised at herself for not asking. No big deal at all. Within a couple hours, she called me back and asked which battery I wanted to purchase. She provided prices, but no information on the battery specifications, so I had to specifically ask. Again, not a huge deal, but I'm used to this information being given up front. Accessing the shop was easy, and there was lots of parking. Their waiting area is nothing special, but it was clean and quiet. I was the only person in the waiting area, so it was fine. If there were more than a few people in there, I don't think I'd want to sit there. Too cramped. After I checked in, I gave my keys, and they said they'd let me know when it was ready. I thought it was strange because they did not have me sign a quote before beginning the work. I thought this was required by law, but perhaps it was a state law and not applicable in Arizona. Also, if something regarding prices changes after the vehicle is in the possession of the shop, I thought they had to contact the customer to let them know of the additional costs before starting the work. Anyway, I basically went in without actually knowing the exact price for the quoted work other than the battery and battery replacement - which turned out that the quoted price I received for the battery was $130.99 and my paid invoice says that I paid $143.99. I personally don't care that much about $13, but if some people might, so that's why I'm mentioning it. I didn't speak up about it at the time as they wanted me to pay before I even saw the invoice. It's mostly on me for paying without asking to see the invoice before tapping my card. The bigger disappointments were discovered when I got home. After arriving at home, when I went to gather my things, I noticed that my seat was a little dirty. Nothing that couldn't be cleaned up with a damp towel. Then I noticed there was a dark liquid substance on my door handle. I'm thinking either the technicians hands were dirty, or perhaps the silver foil was removed from the bottle of oil near my vehicle and it splashed on it as it wasn't that much. These weren't big issues as I easily was able to clean it up myself, but the bottom line is there is clearly some lack of processes that either aren't being followed or don't exist at all. I don't take my car in for maintenance/repairs for it to have to clean up after them. Overall, the prices for my oil change and the battery swap were fair, and the work was done in a timely manner. I'll probably go back and give this place one more chance. But if the end experience is the same, I'll probably try to find another shop.

Gave me a quote before the work was done. It was reasonable. My window works great now! However the reason for my top notch review is the customer service I received. I received a text message thanking me for my visit and that they appreciate my business. I received a follow up text a month or so later asking how my vehicle was running and to make sure everything was still good. This blew me away! I've never had a business follow up like that before. It is refreshing to know that a business values its customers this way. I will be taking my vehicle back for any needs it may have.

So in addition to brakes this visit he also swapped out spark plugs which ended up being an involved project based on their location on the vehicle. Pretty sure they were the original ones from 180,000 miles ago! We came up with a plan regarding maintenance of the coolant and transmission fluid at a future date as they were looking fine at the moment. If you're looking for a shop with an honest, family feel where the owner wholeheartedly takes the time diagnose, repair, and provide education regarding this is the one. After I submitted a complaint about unresolved repairs, the owner sent me this message:…read more "If anything, sir, you owe me money for your right rear door lock actuator. If you would get off your privilege high horse, you would see the situation for what it really is and not for what's convenient to you." I had been nothing but respectful, patient, and fair. This response came after the shop had already received thousands of dollars through my payments and warranty claims. Before service, I provided a detailed one-page summary, reproduction instructions, records, and videos. My liftgate would not open automatically, but it still closed correctly. The shop diagnosed failed struts and charged $1,681.77, stating that replacement would fix the problem. It did not. Afterward, the liftgate also stopped closing automatically and had to be pushed down manually, leaving it worse than before. At the first pickup, the vehicle's locking system was also worse. Before service, the vehicle could at least lock. Afterward, the passenger doors were not functioning properly and the entire vehicle would not lock. I returned three times, made nearly five trips to and from the shop, spent over $200 on Ubers, and waited there for hours. During the second visit, the mechanic and I reproduced the same originally reported problems within seconds using the instructions I had already provided. Because the first warranty claim had been closed, I was charged another $500 deductible. The front-door now creaks when closing. The owner acknowledged the noise in person, and promised to fix it but never did. The owner eventually ended the repair relationship and refused a refund for the unsuccessful liftgate repair. My complaint was about unresolved repairs and documented expenses - not anything personal. Responding with insults and a demand for more money was completely unacceptable. Based on the unresolved work, repeated inconvenience, refusal to refund the unsuccessful repair, and the owner's response, I cannot recommend this shop.
